  • So another great weekend of motorsport has come and gone. Well done to the hardworking team at Plymouth Motor Club for putting on such a great event in what was challenging conditions on the build up to and over the weekend. Was really great to see so many of you all again.
The weekend was going to be a learning experience again as a few things had changed on the car since Gurston. The gear cable had been replaced as the old one seized and was sticking on changes or not moving enough to get a gear. The brakes also underwent a bleed again and it finally resolved the soft pedal feeling. Unfortunately I couldn’t get the sprocket change done in time as the ones I have need to be machined out.
Saturday went well with times improving, unfortunately I’m still really struggling to get the car off the line, the gearing is not quite right and I either have too much or it bogs badly, Saturday afternoon was horrendous as you will see on the video and kills the run up to the cattlegrid split. Hopefully this will be rectified as at the moment I’m almost running a gear too low everywhere. The new engine was pulling well on the Saturday but looking at the speeds we were still down by about 10mph on cattle grid approach, 7mph in the kink and 10mph over the finish. I have a feeling we may have been running too much wing. Great result with the class win and 3rd overall but looking at the video I could have gone quicker but it’s all learning for the rest of the year and working on changes that are needed.
Sunday started off as Saturday had ended with the time being close. It then happened and the heavens opened just before the single seaters were due up, frantic tyre changes as we were scrambling for wets. Thankfully by the last run we were back on slicks but sadly the damage had been done and the track was a little brown from the paddock. Gutting the return of the mystery misfire returned on the left handers and exits of left handers. We think now it maybe fuel starvation as it was the lowest the fuel had been all weekend (loads showing on the stick but 🤷🏻‍♂️). Still a great result though as myself and Tom tied for the class win for it to go my way on a previous run.
Much happier with the car now and a list of improvements to try and get in place for the next event at Wiscombe.
