Just wanted to let everyone know, I just did this install last night on a 2015 sport. Worked like a dream! The only challenging part was removing the mushroom tabs. Secondly in the video he unplugged the cable to the rear window switch and the overhead little cup holder light. I did not unplug the cables for these! There were clips holding the switch that were much easier to undo and the switch came right out as well as the little light just pops out. Recommend this over trying to undo the clips! Thanks so much for this video! I followed it and it works like a charm. My lights are great! No flickering at all. I noticed the old lights flickered while I was working on them too. Definitely some connector issue but I prefer these bright ones! Awesome work
Thanks for the feedback Matt and glad you found the video helpful! I agree with the clips but that was my first time taking it apart so I just disconnected everything but like you mentioned probably easier to do it the other way. Let me know what you think of the other RAM videos on the channel too when you get a chance 👍😎
Had a lot of trouble with the speed clips, not as easy as shown on the video. My metal clips stayed in the roof and got bent and would not allow the console back in. Finally figured it out. Lights are 10x better than factory. Awesome!!
I find your video a couple of years ago. And today I finally got around to doing it. Followed your steps and all worked perfectly. Thanks for your help. I love the amount of light I get now.
Great video, I did the same to my truck except I just plugged LED 194 bulbs into the socket. Probably not quite as bright but much better than it was before.
WOW, exactly what I was looking for to fix my lame flickering, dim OEM console lights. I tried a 194 LED bulb since I had some on hand and am so thankful how things turned out. I appreciate you dude! Wish you well in the days ahead.
Great video and definitely helpful. I lost patience on the mushroom tabs and ended up drilling a small hole. It clips back in when done correctly (mine weren't all correct lol). Thanks for sharing great vids
Man I can’t appreciate you enough for this video! Dodge already replaced it once and it went out AGAIN and they wouldn’t do anything! They wanted $300!!!
Great video! Went just as expected. Unfortunately 1. They were way too bright and 2. They started flickering after 3 months and then now work intermittently. Came with extras so going to swap out and see what happens. Thanks!
Same thing here. When I re-did it the second time I made the wire lead accessible through the hole on the chrome plate. Now all I have to do is pop the clicker lens off, pull the stick on LED pad out to expose the wiring harness, then plug the new light in and put everything back.
I followed your video step by step. I cannot emphasize enough - check polarity ! Wires are not held in place in the connector that snaps into the 194 socket, I had to play with it alot to get it to stay. Very impressed by your video, I had some trouble getting the connectors apart to pop the console out. They all come apart differently. End result is very bright. Thanks for filming it !
Thanks for the video. All done on my 2020 1500 DS except I soldered the wires into the wedge sockets as I couldn't get a good connection using the wedges. The hardest part was removing the console as the clips just wouldn't let go and once out I had to repair the clip holders. Hope I don't ever have to remove it again.
My 2014 Ram truck overhead console lights also flicker, so I replaced them using your video as a guide. Lights are working great. The hardest thing was removing the four connectors. Great video. Thank for sharing.
Been looking to upgrade my interior dome lights couldn’t fined any LED’s for my 14 sport truck found your video followed your steps and got it done thanks for this video man 🙏👊
GREAT video, love your channel. It was much brighter while it lasted. I did this upgrade, but should not have. In my case I have an extended warranty, so the console is covered. (I KNOW). Also, the double stick tape pulled the circuit board contacts off the housing, so even though the LED still works, the contacts were broken and after about 8 months I had to replace the whole console. :-(
super helpful, I'm in the same position. thinking I should let the dealer do fix the non - working lights so they are culpable for any issues. Truck only has 18k miles. thanks for posting!
awesome stuff bro, there's a few vids on older model rams replacing the map lights. this is the first vid I found with the newer style led map lights. mine was flickering but fortunately still under warranty. now I know what to do when they fail again. subbed.
@@physiques yes they do! Put about 20k on the truck since then with at LEAST 4 times daily opening and closing and leaving the door open while hooking and unhooking trailer and I haven’t lost even one of the little led bulbs in them yet!
Looks good, great idea. The fact that the LED panels are not centered in the clear covered area would drive me nuts. I'd probably go with bigger LED panels and/or center them and use a frosted vinyl film over the clear cover to "hide" them.
Great Post. I have seen a couple of other posts where the LED Board was replaced with a bulb and after the bulb would not work or illuminate bright when truck is off and the switch was clicked. Do you have same problem with yours? Doesn't look like it. Thanks
So I just received these from Amazon (followed your link) and instead of a row of 9 LEDs (3 rows of 3)like yours has, the ones they send now have 24 LEDs (8 rows of 3) 😳 Hoping I dont run into clearance issues, and I assume they will be annoyingly brighter, but will see when I install them this weekend. Thanks for the videos!
@@BoostedMotorsports No clearance issues, bright as hell. I also did the truck bed LED strips install and some LED fog lights w/DRLs today.. Your videos help out a ton, thanks again.
I do not have factory LED’s in my 2017 interior console but did replace the factory with LED’s. Since then I noticed my interior lights will not always come on when I open the doors as they should. Dodge told me it’s because I put in LED bulbs. Is that true and why? Thank you and as always great videos!
Honestly its probably just a crappy bulb. You can actually buy the exact same kit that I used in this video on your truck too. Its just 100 times easier to install on yours lol. Just pop out the old bulb and plug it in on yours and you will have these crazy bright LED panels too! Let me know if you need more info!
Thanks for the support!!! Yeah it is pretty nice for sure! I will probably be waiting until they work out any bugs and sort out the styling packages first though!
Lol wish I thought of this. I used regular 194 bulbs and they're obviously not angled the best or in the correct position for the best light reflection. Gonna have to change to these.
The dealership glued the two center pine to remove the overhead console. Any thoughts on how to remove it? Can i replace my oem light bulbs without removing everything?
I think my truck didn't have factory LED, some one put some aftermarket LED bulbs that were a 2x2 connected to the socket and they started flickering. I bought the kit you recommended and had to glue the LED pad into the chrome shroud because its dome shaped . It should work just as well. Currently waiting for the glue to dry so I can finish the instal.
I did this mod last year after watching your video. The replacement LED's flicker now when they are activated by a door opening. When the overhead lights are pressed (while the doors are closed), they don't flicker. Is this happening to yours after a year? Just wondering if I got bad leds. Both bulbs do it.
Quite the event to change a bulb .......looking at your video I'm thinking my overhead light on one side isn't as bright as the other side because it might have broken loose and it's out of position, not burnt or otherwise...just out of position....that possible?
love the vid. I did everything as prescribed. I am having an issue with the lights, they will not turn off. the on and off switch is not working (white switch)Any suggestions? The will turn off if I turn off the internal lights. Help?
I figured it out....Key Off, Door Open: Works Key On, Door Open: Works Truck Running, Door Open: Works Key On, Door Closed, Map Light Clicked: Works Truck Running, Door Closed, Map Light Clicked: Works Key OFF, Door Closed, Map Lights Clicked: DO NOT WORK
I just did this to my truck and they are perfect. They come on fine if I open the door and turn them on from the dimmer switch, but for some reason they won’t fully light up if I click them on individually. It’s almost like they aren’t getting full power because they are really dim. What do you think would cause them to not fully light up when being clicked on individually??
What am I doing wrong? Install was easy enough but within a month they start flickering and go out. I've replaced them again and same thing. Ideas? Thanks.
Since you used that small led board, could I use a bigger led board that fills in the whole chrome section vs a small one like yours ? Or does it have to be a small one with 9 leds, also what about the rear one it won’t match
Yeah you can definitely use a bigger board! I just wanted some smaller ones for the front lights and they came with a bunch in a pack so I used the rest on the rear dome light 👍
I used a red hot screw driver to cut the plastic lump off of the inside clear cover. Then I cut off the plug on the oem light to give me clearance for the new light harness. This allowed me to hide the light strip between the oem light and chrome piece. The small cover allows 6 of the lights to shine through but now I don’t have to look at that ugly light strip.
Hey man and everyone on here. Not sure if you have hid headlights in them factory headlight housings, But i had a 14 Ram Laramie a couple yrs ago and ran hids in the stock Halogen projectors and now have custom True hid projectors from Retroshopus installed in my headlight pods on my 17 Ram sport 1500 with leather and what a difference. Check into having True hid projectors/Morimotto hid kits installed in them projector lights. You can send your lights to Jeremy the owner of Retroshopus and he takes them apart and can customize them to however you want. He can install Amber/White Switchbacks like i have, Color changing Switchbacks via cell phone, Color changing Demon Eyes which are the Eye on the projector, Color changing Halos and C bars, He can engrave company logos or whatever on the backside of the projector eye which when lit up looks SICK. Check out his youtube headlight builds.
Got the replacement done in my truck.... kind of doubt that I'll be getting the Chrome reflectors off again after I super glued them lol but that's okay. I ran the wires on the spade plug in their original recessed channels cuz the opposite side seemed way too tight and couldn't get it in the outlet. The backside of the sticky tape is really lame, hardly sticks. I guess I could super glue that too LOL. And I've noticed that sometimes the flicker was not because of the LED lights, it must be something else along the line.... Maybe the plug connection? Or maybe a grounding issue somewhere? Or maybe a voltage issue somewhere.... These are pretty nice, they are hella bright, almost too bright. I might make some sort of lamp shade for the map lights LOL
Yeah you have to really make sure those metal prongs have good contact with the clips like I was showing cause mine was flickering too at first! They are definitely bright! 😎
I have a 2015 ram sport and I have the same problem with my interior lights flickering in and out they’re very very weak. What’s the part number or Amazon number to order those online so I can order the right one. Thanks
So, I did this in my 14 limited. It worked well for a few months, but the LEDs in the video description are now failing. Multiple rows are dead and the rest now flash really bad. Has anyone found a better led panel of the same style? I have more of the same ones but I don't feel like doing it again every 6 months.
@@willingandable1123 I had originally purchased a ten pack of the lights in the video. I looked around online for other options that were similar, but nearly every one had reviews about diodes going bad. I ended up just using the ones I had again. So far they're doing okay. I'd really like to find a more long term solution.
@@mountaingoat755 It seems they work for a few weeks or maybe even a couple of months, but then a row will go out and/or it will start flickering. I've considered soldering the connection rather than "clipping" them together, but I'm afraid the problem is in the LED panel rather than the connection.
Yeah it's definitely the diodes themselves. Mine lost a few lights at a time and the rest would flicker really bad. They are bright, but longevity is an issues for sure.
Nice vid. I was pissed when Chrysler wouldn't replace my maplight console for a 3rd time because the first two map lights did the same thing. (Dim/flicker) so I just ordered some myself for $7.73 I believe. One problem down, more problems to go!
Let me know how you like it Braden! I might try another brand soon. This one a couple led on the panel started acting up lately but this idea still stands! 🤘😎
Awesome video! Going to do this install later today. I was wondering if you have ever swapped the vanity mirror lights in you RAM for LED’s, and if so what bulb worked for you?
I’m super happy with how they turned out, thanks again for the amazing DIY video for that. I look forward to seeing a video from you in the future for the vanity bulbs!
Is the console that different on a 2015 because i was able to just change bulbs to get a brighter interior or am i missing something else you did? Love all the video's keep them going.
It depends if your truck came with the LED tail lights and projector headlights. Those trucks also have LED interior lighting prone to failing like the ones you saw me remove. If you just have the standard headlights and tail lights you will have peanut bulbs that you can easily upgrade for LED without going through all the hassle you saw in this video!
Just got my kit, just have to find time to tackle it... Switched out my glove box light for one of those though, Super easy. Any concerns regarding the heat these little guys put out? It got awful hot while trying to position it in the box
Thank you, thank you for this video. I however just removed the old lights and replaced them with 194 led bulbs. Then drilled and use small screws instead of glue in case I have to change them again. Couldn’t have done it without this video. Thanks again!
@@robertj5663 , if I remember right, the square light thingys were held in place by melted plastic dots. So I cut the tops off, drilled tiny holes, and reattached the chrome thing with little screws. I have considered removing the chrome altogether but I’m not sure if it wouldn’t be too much light.
So if they flicker is it a must to do all this removal? Cant we just replace the bulb with a new T10 LED bulb// Please let me know b4 i start teaing shit up lol
Any issues with the LEDs yet? I've had a set in an older vehicle dim to a blue of I left them on for more than a couple minutes. Also looks like you could go with a bigger board. I noticed they had a 4x6 (24 LEDs)
No issues so far! I went with this size because the clear button actually collapses onto the chrome piece when you turn the light on or off. The small LED panel I used I situated where the hinge portion is so that there is no interference but if you used a larger panel it would definitely hit. You could always make a custom standoff for the LED panel but I wanted to make a simple mod :D
Thanks Bert! I have it linked in the description of this video. Theres a ton of companies that sell these cheap LEDs but I might find a different brand cause a couple led on the circuit has died off.
Hey Pedro it will work but you will have a different chrome piece in yours and you probably don't have to take out the whole console. Just remove halogen bulb and plug in the LED circuit and you should be good to go!

Hey man I’m trying to find red led for my truck, do they make these in red
hey im shopping for a 3rd gen dodge ram 1500 and wanted to know what year the overhead consoles were introduced and for what trims
I have a 2015 ram sport and I have the same problem with my interior lights flickering in and out they’re very very weak. What’s the part number or Amazon number to order those online so I can order the right one. Thanks
Thanks man.
Twist the panel tool for the overhead lights. Sorta like a big flat head it popped right out.
Thank you!
I was looking to find these lights can u tell me what brand to find them on Amazon
I did this upgrade, but my led bulbs don’t last long. 1-2 months at most. Any suggestions on a longer lasting bulbs?
Awesome dude, great video(s)!
Awesomeness!
So, I did this in my 14 limited. It worked well for a few months, but the LEDs in the video description are now failing. Multiple rows are dead and the rest now flash really bad. Has anyone found a better led panel of the same style? I have more of the same ones but I don't feel like doing it again every 6 months.
I'm with you on this. I've now put 4-5 different LED panels and they all fail. Any solutions yet?
Does the knob to dim the light still function as before?
Can you just put in a led 194 bulb into the connector for the original led?
Sure can! Just might have to remove the chrome inserts as they will block most of the light from a regular 194 LED bulb
Awesome video! Going to do this install later today. I was wondering if you have ever swapped the vanity mirror lights in you RAM for LED’s, and if so what bulb worked for you?
Thanks Ryan! I haven't tackled the vanity bulbs yet but will definitely make a video on it when it happens! How are you liking the dome lights? 😁
Boosted2k wow thanks for that explanation that makes alot of sense. Awesome job!!!
Just got my kit, just have to find time to tackle it... Switched out my glove box light for one of those though, Super easy. Any concerns regarding the heat these little guys put out? It got awful hot while trying to position it in the box
Shouldn't be an issue with heat. I've had them in other vehicles in the past with no issues 😎
Thank you, thank you for this video. I however just removed the old lights and replaced them with 194 led bulbs. Then drilled and use small screws instead of glue in case I have to change them again. Couldn’t have done it without this video. Thanks again!
How did you remove the lights? Mine are integrated into the chrome piece...
@@menlomenlo851 but how? Mine is all one piece? When I snap out the chrome piece the plastic behind it is one piece with the light integrated...
@@robertj5663 Did you watch the video?
The video clearly explains this.
Thank you so much
Tried the mod on my Dodge Ram 2014. The LED LIGHTS WORK but the switches to turn lights off don’t work anymore.
So if they flicker is it a must to do all this removal? Cant we just replace the bulb with a new T10 LED bulb// Please let me know b4 i start teaing shit up lol
Yeah you can toss a t10 in there but still need to remove all that factory junk to get at them since these factory LEDs are semi/permanent
Where did you buy everything and what's it called so I can find it and do the same.
Ok. Thanks. I'm loving the videos. I bought a 2016 black sport little over a year ago. I'm getting some good ideas from your videos.
Baby I missed it but do you have any Amazon links for the bulbs and connectors you used?
Great video, done well. However, I may have missed this. What is the package (light kit) that I need to order from Amazon?
Thanks Bert! I have it linked in the description of this video. Theres a ton of companies that sell these cheap LEDs but I might find a different brand cause a couple led on the circuit has died off.
Do you have an order/parts number for panel for the repair from Amazon kit , having issue with so many different kits ?
Were you able to change out the rear dome light?
I would like to do this on my 2009 ram 1500 do you think this lights work? I don’t think I have stock leds on mine.
Hey Pedro it will work but you will have a different chrome piece in yours and you probably don't have to take out the whole console. Just remove halogen bulb and plug in the LED circuit and you should be good to go!
Boosted2k all right I’ll search it and hopefully I can get rid of those yellowish interior lights thanks!
