Actually No. It evokes cheap Chinese manufacturing with maybe Swiss made movement. Those models coast about 30% or less the be made and the markup is insane
I think this is a fair assumption. For most watch enthusiasts who live outside the Uk and US and have to pay exorbitant taxes on importing anything close to luxury, we prefer to go to brick and mortar dealers when we travel and purchase watches. I noticed most microbrands are available online only. I saw this video and instantly felt like I needed to add a farer and echo/neutra to my collection. I just love the finish and designs of both brands.
If you Google "what is a watch micro brand" one of the first things that pops up is "watches only sold online". Butttttt I think as long as they keep prices low, or at least better then big box brand alternatives and continue to have better or the same features as the big guys there still a micro. An example is Micro's with metal bands seem to have micro adjust way more often then the bigger box bands and the micros are usually cheaper as well, more features lower price. Also forgot advertising, micros usually don't have many adds thus the spending a company would need to gain from advertising is not passed onto the customer. So having a brick and motor store is going to increase the company's spending buy renting or building that space and paying employees. Undoubtedly prices are likely to rise or the company will start producing higher end pieces and changing more or more then they normally would have to make up for the extra spending on there end.
Yes! Give me color (that works) give me unique and interesting hands or sweeping hand, give me vintage style or something different and modern! Small brands bring something special to the table! Thanks for this great video on these 2 brands that should be better known.
Echo/ Neutra is a great brand. I bought a "Cristallo" diver from them last year, wonderful watch, beautiful and superbly made. Much more quality than the price you pay.
I have never bought a watch for more than 500 dollars, but the Farer Lander 4 captivated me at first sight. The combination of colors seemed incredible to me. I had my doubts about buying it since it's a relatively high price for a not very well-known brand, but I started to investigate and the reviews about this brand were very good. After following the watch, I noticed that there were only two left (as you can select the serial number) and the next day there was only one left, so I didn't want to wait for the watch to be restocked and I bought it right away with its Marine Street Venere strap and the classic steel bracelet. I'm excited for it to arrive 😁
One thing you can be sure of is, that if a person wears a Farer, Formex or a Vulcain they are in to watches. They have chose with their eyes and heart.
Totally agree with the dial size being the main visual part of a watch that shows how big it will wear. I don’t know why more reviewers don’t tell you the dial size when giving you the specs. I can’t think of one RUclips reviewer that does it.
I think Teddy had a really good definition of the line between Microbrand and Independent. A microbrand is a watch that doesnt have in-house manufacturing capabilities. They may do some assembly or finishing - but can't really make anything in house
I've owned four Farers and one Echo/Neutra (which I passed on to my brother-in-law). Both very cool brands that deliver quality and style, although it's worth noting that Farers come with a five year warranty vs. two years for Echo-Neutra. Thanks for this review! p.s. - I recently bought the (blue) Echo/Neutra Cristallo based on your review and it's a beautiful beast.
When a watch 'speaks' to you, you will commit. I bought a Farer last year, and deeply happy with it - the pink dial and white numerals pop af in the summer.
I adore Echo Neutra, specifically the Averau Moon Phase field watch. Haven’t bought it (yet!)… but I want it badly so it will shortly become my first moon phase mechanical. Not only because of the looks and quality, but because it is something I can afford..
I have the Echo/Neutra Cristallo in black and I love it. I have it on a black rubber strap and it is a head turner. I also own two Farer watches, Stanhope II and the ENDEAVOUR OCEAN WHITE TITANIUM SERIES II, and can attest to the quality of this brand. I am happy with both brands and would recommend them to anyone.
Nice pieces and yes, lets end the micro brand label. Since Christopher Ward and other brands have started to blur the lines between the minor and major players, using the term microbrand is becoming a little redundant, When you factor in the Ali Express brands moving from homage to original designs, the picture becomes even more complex.
Good stuff.I own their Jackson Chronograph with a Dubois Depraz module and colour palette based on French Gendarmerie uniform. As a change from my BB58 I enjoy the Aquamatic Freshwater.Summer shades with a wave pattern on the dial that shimmers in sunlight.Evey aspect down to the crown insert is well thought out.Throw in a bi-lingual day wheel, bracelet and two straps and they put a lot of the big hitters to shame.
I recently bought this Portobello, the colors and design details were just too much for me to resist! I am yet to review it officially on the channel but with this being my first hands on with the brand it I do understand the hype and I think it is totally justified. Have my eyes on Echo Netura, the brand name is a weird one but that aside also looks like very well thought out design language.
Don’t understand the bezel choice on the Echo/Neutra diver. Wondered if it had a mechanical depth guage, but no - seems like the bezel is just for show. And therefore rendering the watch useless as a practical dive watch. Very odd.
Thanks for the video, I’m a big fan of the channel, I was about to buy a Farer, then I saw your close up shots of the watch and the finish looks awful, especially yah dial on the chrono. So I’m out, not addition to my collection. Loving the content. Thank you.🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
@@WatchCrunchOfficial Thanks --- I was inspired by your video and was looking at their selection of straps for the watch. It didn't look like the same hue of green on offer from their site. That makes me feel better about my potential purchase (knowing that it's the same as the one in the video). Have a great Friday
The prices for the most well-known microbrands and microbrand adjacent brands are increasing significantly. It’s unsustainable in my opinion as micros are butting up against value-packed independent and big brands.
I don't disagree with your deconstruction of the term "micro brand" but I do t know if we can abandon it yet. Currently it separates the enthusiast-driven small brands from the large brands who are solely driven by the need to turn a profit for their share holders.
Yes I agree. Micros often offer better or the same features as big box brands but are usually cheaper. Example micros with metal bands tend to have miroc adjustment build in the band where as the big guys usually don't unless you pay way more. One of the key factors for mircos is they don't spend much is any seemingly on advertising, if you know you know. Finding a new micros brand is like a kid going for a walk and finding a candy store he never knew existed. Also when companies spend alot of $ on advertising that will inevitably raise the price of the watches because they have to make up for the $ spend on advertising and if they have brick and mortar stores paying employees and rent/building the store the cost is also passed down to the customer. Lastly packaging, micros tend to have more minimalist packaging compared the big box guys, would you have have your $ going towards better packaging that will end up in a drawer somewhere or go towards a better watch?
Echo would some really heavy hitters and some instant buys if they made the fixed bezel on some of their watches a rotating one. They’ve even admitted this one of their biggest requests but they refuse to do it for some reason.
I love both but I have the Cortina Just because I met the company owners and they let me try all their watches. Farer looks good but I want to try before buying a watch
As much as I love Farer, they're just way beyond what I could afford. As a third world country dweller, I just can't afford them. Any affordable brands that have similar minimalist designs? Could spend upto $500
Online brand, no physical store, like Farer or CW Boutique brand, physical store, like Baltic or mr jones Retail brand, readily available around the world, like Seiko citizen or fossil Household brand, like Rolex or Casio High horology brand, Patek AP Lange etc Alternate classification
I couldn't help but notice the watch model early in the video. Maybe I'm in the minority here but it seems a watch is wasted on a tattoo sleeve. It really seems to camouflage the watch and draw attention to itself over the watch.
Perhaps better not to use the term ‘brand’ and completely omit it. Better to use ‘family owned’ or ‘small manufacturer’. Using the term ‘micro’ insinuates insignificant and is totally meaningless to describe something, unless you can barely see it. I Like Farer, but I’m British so I am naturally biased, but the other watch looks good too.
I bought this popular video watch from nkuwan , which was originally priced at a few thousand dollars, but now it's only $380! It's really suitable to pick up feces!
Microbrand is like microbrew. It evokes hand-crafted, artisanal products that are made with love and passion.
Actually No. It evokes cheap Chinese manufacturing with maybe Swiss made movement. Those models coast about 30% or less the be made and the markup is insane
@@bsbullshit2024 ACTUALLY YES!!!!!!!!!!! So there
You actually deleted my comment Mr. Snowflake 😂what a loser
I feel like a microbrand becomes a "big brand" when they are available in retail, especially outside their country of origin
Never heard that one, but good point!
“Micro brand…Micro penis” “Small brand…Small penis” I’m going with Boutique Brand😉

Whoa! Yet another new brand to check out! Truly a great time to be a watch enthusiast. Stunning watches all of them.
Yes! Give me color (that works) give me unique and interesting hands or sweeping hand, give me vintage style or something different and modern! Small brands bring something special to the table! Thanks for this great video on these 2 brands that should be better known.
Hi Mr Crunch, thanks for highlighting these brands, keep up the good work!
Love your videos, Max. Keep ‘em coming.
The California Dial in green is right up my alley.
Echo/ Neutra is a great brand. I bought a "Cristallo" diver from them last year, wonderful watch, beautiful and superbly made. Much more quality than the price you pay.
Bought the Cristallo recently and I'm in love ❤
I bought a Farer last year and it is gorgeous - the Lander GMT Kano. Pink dial is sunburst. It's summer in Europe, and I'm going to wear it now!
I have never bought a watch for more than 500 dollars, but the Farer Lander 4 captivated me at first sight. The combination of colors seemed incredible to me. I've got a rather colourful Farer Berlina Chronograph, it's great but that Chrono with the unspellable name looks awesome too!
I'm starting to warm up to Farer, I really like the Cusion Case Collection.
They are great!
One thing you can be sure of is, that if a person wears a Farer, Formex or a Vulcain they are in to watches. They have chose with their eyes and heart.
Farer is the bomb-diggity. I have the Stanhope II. It’s my favorite watch in my collection.
Great video! Love your content and the watch crunch app 😎

It’s so refreshing to see these two cool brands !
I really like that blue Chrono. Awesome
I have always liked what Farer have been doing and am yet to pull the trigger on one of their models . Both Farer models you featured are nice!
I love them! Really stellar watches

Just wish that the Echo/neutra would have a display caseback as that movement is very pretty.

That echo chrono reminded me of the nivada watches. Cool take on it
My two favorite microbrands. 👍🏻 Both are very nice.

How do you feel about luxury Microbrand like RGM out of Pennsylvania
I've been looking for IWC Mk20 alternative and that Farer pilot watch looks amazing! Going to the website right now.
Yeah that's my favorite from them!
Cant find it 🤔
Farer is one of my favorite three micros along with Monta and Formex. I could be happy wearing only these three brands.
You said that Cristallo is fourteen inches thick.
Gonna have some issues slipping that under a dress cuff 😂
One could perhaps refer to them as "Enthusiast Savior Brands".
Don’t understand the bezel choice on the Echo/Neutra diver. Wondered if it had a mechanical depth guage, but no - seems like the bezel is just for show. And therefore rendering the watch useless as a practical dive watch. Very odd.

Echo isn't bad considering the price; but Farer is still the king of color in my opinion.
Hi - what green strap did you use for the green Farer? Thanks
The original calf leather strap
@@WatchCrunchOfficial Thanks --- I was inspired by your video and was looking at their selection of straps for the watch. It didn't look like the same hue of green on offer from their site. The Echo Neutra chrono really looks like a Bell & Ross BR-V2 94 homage.
Let’s not forget Time - ex,,, kidding, Farer seems like a solid piece of art
I love Echo Neutra watches. In my opinion Cortina 1956 GMT Teal is the best looking watch on the market.
Love these although a tad chunky.
Yeah, someone needs to make a thin Chrono movement

Problem with “micro brand” because it sounds like “micro penis,” but “small brand” sounds like “small penis” too, using that logic 🙃
Echo Nuetra is awesome I have 2, really the only microbrand I have mone than one of
A better design swatch?
Echo would some really heavy hitters and some instant buys if they made the fixed bezel on some of their watches a rotating one. They’ve even admitted this one of their biggest requests but they refuse to do it for some reason.
I think we should just call them independent brands and if the MB & F , Gruebel Forsey boys come screaming at us, we can just ignore them.
I love both but I have the Cortina Just because I met the company owners and they let me try all their watches. Farer looks good but I want to try before buying a watch
Marathon is the micro and Doxa is a main. The line is between both.
Micro seems a better term than small to me.
Wouldn't it be great if there was a Rotten Tomatoes & Audience Score for watches? (or maybe it would infuse too much group think on us)
As much as I love Farer, they're just way beyond what I could afford. As a third world country dweller, I just can't afford them. Any affordable brands that have similar minimalist designs?
Could spend upto $500
Take a look at Marloe. Lots of colors like Farer but much less expensive.
Online brand, no physical store, like Farer or CW
Boutique brand, physical store, like Baltic or mr jones
Retail brand, readily available around the world, like Seiko citizen or fossil
Household brand, like Rolex or Casio
High horology brand, Patek AP Lange etc

I instead translated it in Thai sense as "SME brand"
It looks like a Rolex omega panerai mix

6:39 "14 inches thick" ummm....
1:35 Don't google that
6:40 “14 INCHES thick!”… Not intimidating at all!😱🤪🤣
Interesting where your mind goes when you think of micro brand.....
14 inches thick
It’s a thic boi
What she said
I prefer call them young brands or new brands
I like that!
Hmmm…someone has some micro issues. 😂
“Small brand”sounds worse than microbrand
0:11 I never thought of it. Never.
Until now.
What’s wrong with u, man? 🤔😉
🤣🤣

Niche brands
"small" is not better than "micro".. 🤣
It wasn’t weird… you’re making it weird! 🤦♂️
That’s weird doesn’t even come to mind you ruined it lol
So micro is bad and small is good… i see your asian roots man😂😂😂😂
I have to say that #nkuwan 's watches is amazing!
