The tick could possibly be a hydraulic lifter, they tend to tick a bit if they need oil pressed through them ... the italian tuneup (15-30 mins @ 3000rpm) usually solves them, until they go completely ... exhaust sound very plausible if it sounds "fluttering" also, hope she holds up at rolls! I think I can confirm the tick / flutter towards the end was an exhaust leak (at least hopefully). Had mine making a damn near exact sound to that you guys had, from an old dodgy custom exhaust job, and when I got a properly custom built stainless 3" from the turbos back, have not noticed anything since. Either way, good luck at the rolls!
If you have the chance I would check you mr timing chain guides and tensioner . The guides are plastic and like everything else plastic on these cars break. And the tensioner can vibrated loose after time. And check your oil filter.
Are these spark plugs 97506? What is the gap you are running (in this video?) I just changed my plugs and am experiencing very similar issue - thanks! Currently running 0.018” gap on mine!
I hate to ask but have you guys done/has it previously been done, the valve cover gasket? I need mine done and the 2nd cyl is constantly misfiring and causing issues because 2nd cyl oil leak on spark is the first sign of valve cover
I'm curious since this is pre lci wouldn't it have msd80? if so that could be the issue and you might need to upgrade to msd81. but idk if that was already done or not.
Hey zero to 60 , my 5th gear auto n54 is slipping, currently on a hybrid turbo just around 19psi. What do you recond I need to do to rebuild my trans ? The trans is currently clocking around 160-180k km. Do you think a solenoid kit with get things back to normal ?
If you have XHP, check adaptations, activate line pressure boost under the custom module, this may resolve your clutch slip. Budget on full gearbox service including Mechatronic Sleeves, Seals, Solenoids, oil, pan /filter. If you still get slip after doing all of the above, you will probably need to replace the clutch packs.

I've got a theory these N54s are miss happy because the injector floods the spark plug right beside it - and it flames out. A local rich point within the cylinder. I used to make a fair whack of power with a single coil on an RB30ET and leads so why the misfire trouble on this platform with the multiple coil on plug advantage? I've noticed using a custom MHD map leaner seems to run cleaner. Anyone else notice this ?
SILZKBR8D8S this is the ngk spark plugs I use in mine, 2 stage colder, good luck for roll racing! I changed my mates clutch few weeks ago n when he drove off the car started knocking/ticking removed the oil filter and it had compressed for some reason, new oil and filter n problem was sorted!
I hope its not rod knock boys... joking... I hope... I still dream about spun Rod Bearings,,, every time you lay on it smoke through the centre console. Does it have a burning rubber smell? 14.43 acceleration shuts ashtray :)

With "original plugs" you are refering the plugs that came with this car when you bought or the original plugs of N54 (bosch)?

I use 5w40 liquid Molly, less oil consumption/ burning from the heat
