I'm in the UK and cyclists drive me mad with most of them on sidewalks and going through red lights, with the police just watching them. But even I think these cops were way over the top, I think you may have an ego problem with some of your police.
@@nothingsurprisesmeanymore They used the Bike nonsense to justify profiling him, or for using intel that wouldn't be admissible in court. It's like when officers claim they "smell" weed coming from a car. Sure 9/10 they are probably telling the truth, but it's an easy way to justify a search based on illegal profiling.
@nothingsurprisesmeanymore I agree, many police here in the U.S. have a massive ego problem. Many are willing to endanger the public, violate people's rights, and sometimes outright murder people in their own homes simply to feel tough.
I do disagree with part of your comment, though. I personally believe bicycles belong on the sidewalk if a dedicated bike lane is not present outside of the road. The reason is that the severity of potential injuries is greatly reduced if a pedestrian is hit by a bicycle compared to if a cyclist is struck by a car.
There are many factors to take into account, though, so I don't necessarily think bike lanes themselves are a bad idea. I just think if the bike lane has to occupy existing pavement instead of getting a dedicated lane outside of the road and the sidewalk, the sidewalk is where I want my nephews to ride their bikes. Not the road. I live in a state that's full of drunk drivers and judges who refuse to lock them up, I would *really* prefer they at least have the safety of a curb and/or a tree/mailbox between them and the idiots on the road.

As a biker myself I would sometimes go on night rides and would rarely get warned for lights.

Most police training is the same basic training done in the military. If you can get through the basic physical training, your 60% through. I have been stopped by police on my bike in the past. I stopped and greeted the police with " officer how can I be of assistance to you or how can I help you ? " Two of the stops were legitimate. But only was told of the issue , never was asked my name or for identification. I will be polite to police if they are polite to me . But if they try to bully me , they usually have to apologize. I understand there are some bad apples on the force , but a lot of them want to help .

The police need a small form to sign both officer names and serial numbers for the pair of cuffs if the same model. This shuffle of cuffs of the arrestee seems the hard way to cope with this clerical problem.
