hi john i have a problem in my sony handicam DCR - H36. when i inser any tape its show on display : The tape is locked - check the tab .... what i do . please solve the problem... thanks .

I have spliced such cables but it's very fiddly and they fail again as soon as they're flexed. Not worth it for a moving cable. As you can get Sony N mechanisms for next to nothing, these days, I wouldn't bother with replacing the FP-031.
