Poor Shohei!!!! He just wants to play baseball. He got into mess because he trusted his friend. He seems angry, upset, and sad. I feel so bad for him.
Who gives their friend access to their bank account. lol
@@KNByam Because he's not just a friend, he's been a good friend of ohtani's since he was 18 years old, and he's done more than just translate. It is no surprise that he has access to the account.
Try not giving your interpreter access to your bank info and security questions. Either Ohtani is lying or he's a nitwit.
@@gregoryfarshtey6856 Of course, whatever the facts, ohtani was too dependent on mizuhara. He is responsible for that.

Ohtani's story sounds like real manga.

@@cw9282 this kind of thing happens a lot. assistant stealing money from boss or company account. U need some social experience and common sense
Ohtani's body language, eye contact, facial expression, and voice control all indicate he is telling the truth... I believe him.

Then why is the interpreter not in Jail? 😅
Common sense, which you apparently do not have, indicates Shohei is lying.
Yes. His body language show me he is innocent
But you're only 18yo
He needs to check his bank accounts more often.
It’s ok he has a wife now. I’m sure she’s the one who brought this whole thing up
that is almost impossible because he has more than 50 bank accounts
He needs to learn how to speak English also.
@@RichardsWorldthe least important, you imperialist.
Ohtani is not the type of person who would get into gambling. He is not interested in spending money and dislikes flashy things.
He grew up in a small town that has many rice fields where there are hardly any amusements or stores.
His wife carries a $50 Zara purse still nowadays!!! His wife is a classy, sporty woman who wears minimal makeup or no makeup at all and no body-conscious dress!
The only reason he drives a Porsche is because it's his sponsor, and the car was given to him for free. He has to drive that for advertisement purposes.
His parents refused when Shohei offered to remodel their house, and his sister and brother refused when Shohei offered to buy a house for them, saying that they don't want to use Shohei's money.
Shohei truly believes in karma and started picking up trash on the ground, believing that doing something good would bring good luck to him. He has been doing that since he was in high school.
Shohei is a humble and good-hearted Japanese person. There is really no way he would get into gambling.
Really, so why did he take a $700m contract?
We don't know the whole story but I believe Shohei is not about needing to bet for more money than he already got..
Maybe he should hire an ACCOUNTANT
Not just an accountant. Ohtani needs a Japanese speaking accountant who can directly communicate with him.
If he's smart enough to learn an American sport...he is smart enough to learn English. He makes too much $ to trust Anyone!!!!

If you have an addiction. Michael Jordan is a billionaire and a degenerate gambler
Justice for Shohei Ohtani!!!
Someone needs to write in English completely what Ohtani said because the translator messed up in some important places
You're right. You must be Japanese or who can speak Japanese perfectly.
I am a Japanese-English bilingual. To be honest, Mizuhara wasn't an accurate interpreter. He often made random translations here and there in both ways. I think that Shohei trusted him too much so that Mizuhara could do whatever he liked without letting Shohei know.
Funny, I was just thinking that Mizuhara was, in fact, a better interpreter than this new interpreter skill wise. This interpreter omitted so much detail.
While he does make inaccurate interpretation sometimes. This is normal in translation. You legit have to translate what he says, on the go which is really hard to do. He would already be fired if he wasn’t translating properly.
That said, not backing Mizuhara up with this ordeal.
In the end, that is one of the biggest problems for any Japanese players who come to MLB without English language skills. They need to trust their interpreters to be able to focus on the baseball. I believe that Mizuhara was saying whatever he wanted to even Shohei's agent or lawyer. How could the American media possibly know exactly what's going on? Mizuhara thought he was the ringmaster, it's scary...
This interpreter has missed some very important words that Shohei said
Especially where he said he had a very hard time this one week, even to put into words
@@kaoru3211985 Yes. Shohei described a little more about his feelings, but Will kind of cut it off.
I know that it’s out of point,, but Otani
speaks much more fruently and crisply than what the interpreter communicate in English, never saying“obviously”or “u know”, which the interpreter uses a lot. David Noriage perfectly sums the story that otani told. (I wish he’ll be the permanent interpreter of my hero, Otani, who has been too naive for this matter.)
I believe him, why would someone with a 700 million contract want to gamble?
Dodgers: you will recieve 5 million dollars
Enterpreter: you will recieve 100 dollars
Otani: 😃
What is so messed about this situation is that the absolute best case scenario here for Ohtani is his best friend (former) stole from him and tried to implicate him in a federal crime
All statements were controlled by ippei mizuhara, because he answered the ESPN interview alone without telling his team or ohtani. He said at the time that ohtani took care of the debt, which later turned out to be a lie. It was easy for the interpreter to manipulate the situation for ohtani, who did not speak perfect English😅
Exactly!! Ippei preemptively spoke first without any consultation with Ohtani. Its not Ohtani's fault.
Learn English playing in America!
that is not true. the Espn interview was set up by Ohtani`s public relations representatives, not directly with mizuhara only
If someone could climb on top of the top, they can't just focus other things but just his duties. I mean, why such a talented player like him would even care about other things like gambling specially? His not even just a talented player but he is just a living legend.
I blame Angels team to hire a fraud for Ohtani without background check. He lied about his whole resume and life.
Please. How do you not notice 4 million missing from your bank account?
@@Jarvisc12 OHTANI's annual income is $65 million in sponsorship contracts plus $2 million in annual Dodger salary, for a total of $67 million. It is not hard to imagine that he has multiple accounts. And now there are several reports that he gave mizuhara, his close friend of over 10 years, administrative access to an account for donations for disasters in Japan and abroad (allegedly 1 billion yen was deposited) and used the money for personal use. This could be said to be the result of his over-dependence on IPPEI.

Good report.
Man this new interpreter messed it up. He was off so many places.
which part?? he was pretty much spot-on. better than ippei with or without gambling issues
@@chlone5042 Like in the first two minutes, Ohtani says that he has never bet on ANYTHING nor has he bet on behalf of anyone on a sports event. Moreover, he has never asked anyone to bet on his behalf nor has he wired any money from his bank account to a bookie. And the new guy interprets it as “I never bet on baseball or any other sports or never have asked somebody to do it on my behalf and I have never gone through a bookmaker to bet on sports.” Loosely, his interpretation is good but Ohtani did say he has never bet on anything.
I can imagine that it's difficult for some Americans who do not know Ohtani's history and upbringing in Japan, including how he was even at the Angels to believe fully what Ohtani explained is believable and truth. But as a Japanese who have followed him in Japan and as he moved to MLB, I can attest to that what he said is 100% believable.
Ohtani since he was a young boy was very focused with specific goals set and worked diligently on the path to achieving them. His parents and especially his mother was instrumental in providing the support he needed so that he can focus 100% on his tasks (the baseball). This is why if you are a baseball fan in Japan, this is a very well known story and everyone in Japan know that Ohtani's mother took 100% control of his money (income and expenses) and the set up was simple for Ohtani in that she gave him monthly allowance of minimum amount of money. Ohtani used team dormitory to live and team supplied meals 100% to focus on baseball. This is how he lived in Japan as a NPB player era. Ohtani is known to be very frugal and does not spend money like normal pro athletes do. He is not interested in fashion, clothing, shoes, cars, basically not interested in tangible material stuff. Again, this is very well known in Japan about him.
Ippei Mizuhara was smart in that he put himself in the position with Ohtani to take care of all of his personal duties out side of baseball so that Ohtani can just focus on baseball as he did in Japan. The identical set up that he had with his mother. Ippei was a perfect man for it and Ohtani trusted him 100%. So in this context, it is very plausible and most likely the case that Ippei had this role (similar to the role Ohtani's mother had in Japan) for Ohtani since he became MLB player. Ippei is not just a translator for Ohtani. Ippei was essentially Ohtani's personal caretaker, personal assistant, consultant, butler, driver, shopper and a good friend who took care of all Ohtani's needs to start his life and live in the USA. He therefore had access to Ohtani's bank accounts and was probably helping him on setting up the payables, bills for his expenses etc etc. Don't forget, Ohtani has no experience managing his own money in the past, he is also oblivious to all the living expenses and set ups especially in the USA. Ippei was the perfect friend and paid worker for him to do these tasks for him. In this set up, Ippei can easily transfer Ohtani's money, even 4.5 million without Ohtani knowing (again, Ohtani has been very naive, trusting and indifferent about money matters, except that he knows that he has been getting 50 to 75 million per year on endorsements and baseball contracts even in the past years, so 4.5 million may not be so significant in this light and could not be noticeable if he was trusting Ippei to manage). Agent is there to deal with the baseball contracts and he is not Japanese so he would not have known his personal contents. This is why Ippei is said to have been paid upwards of $400,000 per year to work for Ohtani, where as a regular personal translator working 9 to 5 is paid $150,000ish for a pro-athlete.
So you guys take a rest on speculating and jumping to conclusion about Ohtani in this situation. Eventually the investigation will shed a better light on what I am talking about.
Ippei is a serial liar
how can anyone belive his first story now.

No drinking, no playing with girls, no gambling. He always turned down with these opportunities.
Are MLB players not allowed to bet on only MLB games, or are they not allowed to bet on any type of baseball game (foreign leagues, college, etc). People always talk about not betting on ‘baseball’.
As far as I know, MLB players are not allowed to bet on MLB games, teams and players. If they do, they will be suspended for lifetime. But MLB and many baseball clubs are promoting sports gambling because it's a big source of revenue.

Pete Rose said the same thing. Strange that he was not talking in his native language . Good luck to him cause his baseball life is on the table.
Pete Rose never said the same thing - he didn't blame his interpreter. Pete Rose's excuse was that he didn't bet on baseball. Only football, horses and basketball. this is from the 9/8/20 edition of the Detroit Free Press: "With his lawyer present, Rose stated that he had bet on football, basketball and horseracing, but vehemently denied the allegations of betting on baseball."
Pete Rose never bet on baseball either
Hey he doesn't even speak English so how does he know how to gamble? The guy with the cap is the player right?
Why would you steal money to pay a bookie, when you could just steal the money ? His story doesn't add up
Bank won’t release that kind of money without verifying it’s Shohei himself first. He personally transferred large sums of money to the bookie multiple times. Ain’t know stealing involved
@@piscator2813 exactly why would he have paid a bookie when he could have just stole the money himself.
That is what gamble addiction people do. They do not just get money for something else. They want money to pay off their debts and keep doing gambling and have dopamine shooting
Maybe, we can assume some possibility which bookie forced Ippei to pay his dubts only from Ohtani's account to make use of their advertising. They literally said they used Shohei's name to sell their products. And also said their client was Ippei not Ohtani.
It makes sense if he already had the debt.

There’s almost a zero percent chance this story is 100% true.
Even if Ohtani gambled, they won't be able to prove a thing. That's the thing with Japanese, they are private people. Only Ippei and Ohtani would know, and they're sticking with the same story, with Ippei taking the fall.
Pete Rose had the best comment about this ever
“If I would have had an interpreter, I would have got off scott free”😂😂😂
Even if this is all 100% true it's unbelievable that he doesn't have an accountant or a money manager or a financial advisor who somehow didn't notice almost 5 million dollar in odd wire transfers and didn't inform Ohtani previously. If he somehow - incomprehensibly - didn't have any of these financial controls in place than he's a food. An exceptionally talented fool, but a fool nonetheless.
He didn’t. Shohei’s the kind of guy, who’d eliminate any kinds of distractions just so he can devote a good amount of time to baseball. He’s basically wired in to gameplay, and other matters, he thought, could be entrusted to his friend. 😢

The only reason we even know about this is because they found two wire transfer receipts with Ohtani's name on them. They found those receipts during a Federal Investigation against a bookie. Each receipt was for 500K, the exact amount Mizuhara said was wired each time to pay off his bookie because that was the most he could send at on time. Both came from Ohtani's personal account. Find it hard to believe Ohtani didn't sign off on those transfers. No way he doesn't give the ok.
Why does the interpreter have access to his bank accounts. Makes no sense
because he was his personal assistant and secretary
He was his trusted interpreter hired by an MLB team who later became his best friend. He would help him with everything- He did everything for him. I can even imagine he had access to his phone and emails bc of things constantly needing to be translated. He became an assistant of sorts
