    Wut up MRI MAN, I think this video you created addresses a very important subject in this field. I'm going on my 4th yr as a tech, when I first started, I didn't care how many hours I worked just as long as I made money (I once worked 14 hrs straight! Lol). However, I came to realize that balancing your life and your work is extremely important!! Most importantly try not to get mentally burnt out! Good stuff brotha! 🤜🤛

      Whats up OG George! Hope everything is well!! Yeh its important to slow down and live life Because your gonna look at the calendar and all these years have past and you realize that all you have been doing is working, that's not good or healthy! Nobody will every care how many hours or time u put in ur job. Nobody's gonna be like "member that time you worked 60hrs that week " live life and do the things you love! Make the time and memories!

I have a meeting with the program director for rad tech and the school charges $68k for the program ( I requested information from other schools and they never called me or ignored my calls and emails some schools were $10k cheaper). Looking at other sources and your videos I am excited to enter this new line of the medical field

    I watch your videos all the time and love the channel. I recently applied to a Rad Tech program at the local technical school bc there is also an MRI program available, but you have to be a registered ARRT Rad Tech to be considered for the MRI program.
    I’ve been on Reddit and all over RUclips and get mixed reviews on how difficult these programs are, and in particular the content covered in these programs. Do you have any insight on program structures, or description of the physics and necessary academic elements of the journey to becoming an MRI tech?

    • @MRIMan
      @MRIMan  2 года назад +3

      Thanks for the comment and liking my videos! Yes you have to complete the rad program to become a MRI Tech threw a community college. I ended going the private school route and got a AA degree in science along with MR ARRT. I don't and can't do x-ray. Soo it is harder for me to get a job at a hospital currently. Once you are in a MR program you are taking the core classes like sectional Anatomy, MR safety, image formatin, image quality and artifacts, hardware and instrumentation, venipuncture and physics. In physics you will learn how a image is formed and how MRI works (kspace, pixels, matrix,gradients, coils) , parameter trade offs and how they affect the scan, how to calculate scan time, hownto measure magnetic field strength (Tesla). I think if you have a strong enough interest in these types of thing, it will be challenging but definitely obtainable. You have to want it and be dedicated.

      As a current student, just finishing my second semester, I can say the program is VERY hard but not impossible. Study study and study, study whatever study guides the instructor gives you along with reading the textbooks, i began with cutting corners and just memorizing the answers to questions for tests and that proved inefficient so I began actually reading and studying the text books, made flashcards and study guides on poster board and that all helped. you basically don't have a social life outside of school but it is achievable and worth it. Good luck Nick you'll do great.

    I've been looking into a rad tech program, but I've hit a bit a of a bump in the road. I'm diabetic and wear a CGM (Dexcom). I can't find info anywhere on whether that would be a problem in MRI /CT/ Xray. I think according to the Dexcom website, they do say it is not tested, so there doesn't seem to be any definitive answer. Any chance you might know?

    Hey man I have a question for ya! With having kids and this career and being married, do you find the time to be able to do things by yourself such as playing some video games or taking up a martial art on the side? Part of my fear with having kids is not having anytime for myself as selfish as that is.

    • @MRIMan

      Hi , for me to do my hobbies now it requires more planning. When I was doing Jiu Jitsu (I got hurt, coming back soon) I would go Monday evening for 2 hours and Saturday morning for 2 hours and it worked out fine. As far as video game we play he switch together but the mature games I have to play at night. As my kids get older they start to get more independent and have their own friends. But from ages 0 to 6 they require alot of time 😆 but those moments are priceless! So yes it's possible to do your hobbies but they gotta be planned better! Also being a dad and having a family is a amazing experience. I also like to include my kids in my hobbies

    How common is it for mri/rad techs to be on call? I just started a rad tech program and I’m enjoying it so far but I’m really nervous about work/life balance after I graduate, which is what brought me to this video. maybe it’s silly of me to expect this considering the fact that I’m going into heathcare, but I really don’t wanna sacrifice my weekends. I’m also nervous about the possibility of working night shift cos I know it would absolutely tank my mental health. Lastly, how common is it to find a full-time job as a fresh grad? I went into this expecting to have a consistent full time job with benefits but the job market near me is mostly part time and PRN jobs, is it like this in a lot of places right now? Sorry for so many questions, if you took the time to reply I’d be super grateful 🙏 I know I should probably stick with this program since I’ve already started it but I just wanna know that it’s gonna be worth it in the end, cos what’s the point of working to live if my work isn’t gonna let me have the life I want?

      Are you going into mri or xray ? Right now there is a National shortage in mri. I am seeing sign on bonuses from 10-20 grand at several locations. I do not think you will have any trouble getting a job in mri. Most places require pager call. I have worked in mri for years and I don’t see to many places staffed 24/7 except larger hospitals like Mayo Clinic main campus and clevelsnd clinic main campus but most smaller hospitals do not staff 24/7 and you get called in a lot. Trust me , it ruins your entire week. So during an interview def ask if there is pager call and if so how much are you expected to take. Sometimes you can find a job that is staffed 24/7 but everyone takes turn taking pager call on holidays or weekends ( depending on staffing ) but unless you find an out patient center you will most likely take call . You def will take call or work some holidays and weekends depending on staffing. Ususlly holidays are done by seniority or one year you get Xmas and next year msybe 4th July. Def ask what the schedule will be such as your hours , do you have to pick up weekends , call , holidays.
