It’s a very long story, buuuut… I grew up in a musical household. I already loved music when this aired on Letterman. Then I saw this back in the late 1980s and it changed my world as a music fan. I have not been the same since!
The music is incredible, obviously, but Letterman had a lot of great music. There is something electric about George that a crowd responds to. You can get a studio audience on it's feet, but they generally look awkward like it's the last thing they want to do. Not that crowd.
I am not making this up. My dad had the clean feed on a giant Satellite in the 80's and I remember watching it before it was bleeped in the rebroadcast.
If you read his lips, it looks more like he said "drugs" rather than "heroin." It's interesting that they let him say "Sandra Bernhard raping David," but he couldn't say drugs. But this was the middle of the Just Say No era, when networks were petrified about drug jokes. And like the way Paul was censored in the preceding video, the musicians weren't allowed to say "mother sucker" in the performance. You could say mother and sucker separately, but not together, so they said "sucker sucker" instead.

Barefoot & brilliant, and in glorious stereophonic-sound!
Kudos Donz, another awesome upload.
I am so glad I got to see Gary Shider before he passed.
AH! Thanks!!
Signed, middle-aged white guy that likes the funk.
I love ❤️ George Clinton
It looks like the band is using cue cards for the lyrics?
Is #10 David scoring crack off the streets?
Absolutely no drugs were involved in that performance
George Clinton is from another reality. I luv him.
facts
Don do you have George's 1996 performance on Letterman, with Bernie and Bootsy in the band?
I have every show. I just can’t post anything again.
@@dongiller is it possible you could send that to me or is there another way I could see it? I had it saved years ago but it's long gone
Not possible without permission, and I highly doubt it’ll be given.

The bleeped part was "Dave buys Heroin"
Are you making this up, or is there a source for this?
