"And you know it too Dave, It's nothing you haven't said to me before". I laughed so hard...
"I have nothing bad to say about K-Rock." Give it time, Howard. Give it time.
You really think he would ruin a good thing?
of course not. NBC however
Letterman is like a supervisor you are friends with trying not to reprimand you for saying something inappropriate, but he thinks it's funny hahaha
Howard was always grateful to Letterman since Dave was one of the few people who would allow him on air after his numerous (ridiculous) bans from popular media. Of course Letterman loved having Howard on as a guest.
Until Howard started mentioning stuff on the air that Dave specifically told him not to..
but what helped him more in his career. probably the banning, when people hear they want to check him out
Howard on Dave's show was always magic
Always a Huge Deal whenever Howard was on.
Fan of Dave since I was a kid in the 80s, and watched RUclips vids of him forever. The relaunch of the channel has been amazing.
Same here. Would watch his morning show at an off-campus bar!
This is from 1986 and I'm hanging off every word. Stern had some kind of magic about him.
Now he's what he railed against.
He "hates" radio, but it was and still is his life. On this '86 interview, Stern resembles more the Howard Stern I remember than the earlier Letterman interview I've seen, from '84.
Boy he was right about Johnny Carson staying too long. His heart just wasn't in it anymore. Worked 3 days a week and his ratings were awful.
When did Carson really drop off? As someone from outside the USA, I have no idea.
Still way better than Colbert the late night embarrassment.
Reminds me of someone
A part of Carson died when his son died. He never recovered from that loss even though he wasn't close to any of his children.
Howard Stern's outfit epitomizes the 80's.
denim baby
40 years later and now he dresses like a skater boy from the 90's...
The hair!
Feel like my dad had the same aviators
"What about that Fox network? Think it's gonna work out?" A little slice of history, right there.
Yep I remember it well. I think Married With Children debuted...either later that year or the next. By 1990 or so they were the hip network
There will never be another Howard Stern. In fact, Howard Stern isn't Howard Stern anymore
The evolution that Stern has seen since filming this interview is astounding.
Devolution
this is a very different Stern than I grew up with... this is so great 😂
Howard at his best. Love the chip on his shoulder that he used to have.
Funny to hear them talking about the new “Fox” network.
Such a great interview
Great interview, very entertaining.
He takes over every interview from the very start
If anybody thought he would get that first $500,000,000 SiriusXM deal years later ... Oh boy!
This has to be the scene they reenacted in Private Parts. Nice
8:58 - But not SO much "Done with NBC" that he became a judge on "America's Got Talent" Decades later
That was when Howard became a Hollywood suckup, which was his goal all along
in the 80s, I had no way to listen to Stern on the radio since I was not in NYC but I always liked him on Letterman. He was the only guest who spoke like this to Dave. I miss this Howard - 2022 version is a pale imitation
The real Howard is long gone and buried. Very few had the guts to go toe to toe and have this kind of banter with Dave and it made for true must see appointment TV
I always loved seeing Howard on the show. But I'd also like to see Dave's interview with Aaron Ralston. It was a great interview!
He looks great in this.
This is his real face!!!!
The 2020 Version of Howard is the retired kind Zombie style!!
Didn't realize people still said "happening" in the '80s.
Umm they still say it so not sure where the 80s thing came from
@@I_Am_The_Social_Reject it came about sometime in the mid eighties
'people' didn't but Dave would pull it out of his hat occasionally.
I Enjoy both versions of Stern, who he was and who he has become. It's been a hell of a journey.

3:27 "What about that Fox Network, you think that's gonna work out?"
OMG, I miss *this* Howard Stern!!
What a legend
Reminds me of when they fired Norm from SNL
Did his accent / rhythm change over time? He kind of sounds like a baddie in a 70s movie in this clip.
"If you have 6^^ carved in your head, this is for you" - Howard Stern
Pulled a Rickles routine 😂
I miss these days. This is when late night TV mattered
got nervous we'll have no more 15hr concerts with him and Hot Tuna😄
And a lot about Yeast infections lmao so true
Probably one of the Greatest Makeovers in Show Business History; Howard Stern from his last appearance in 1984, to this one, 1986
I love seeing Howard Stern evolve and keep getting better 😁
You ment change his whole persona and become a liberal wacko for riches. If Stern was today’s guy back then you would have never heard of him. FACT
He's a prattling, predictable uber liberal corporate puppet at this point pumpkin.
Sarcasm I hope!
@@bulldawg7232 Recently, well… 🤷♂️
now he's the very man he rallied against
Is he?
@mitzelnation78 absolutely he is. He's turned p.c. Hollywood Howie. He is also just like Imus now.
His current wife, Beth, was 14 when this aired.
back when Howard was the working man's hero
Now he's the liberal billionaires hero.
He's a 👃
@@voiceguy3635 yea. what a sad fall
@@brucehallett1989 do you think Donald Trump is a working man’s hero 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 wipes self on gold toilet 😂😂😂
@@Non_auro_sed_ferro_recuperanda yup
Stern vs. DeBella in the Philly Radio Wars!! What a Time
Not much of a war. Stern crushed Jon Dibella.
@@ericsierra-franco7802 From what I remember it happened pretty quickly
@@RoeLuv1
Indeed it did!
More Stern on this channel, please.
Wow Anthony Jeselnick sounds just like 1986 Howard Stern. At least in their tone and cadence
You're not wrong.
Damn that’s a good comparison. For sure dude. It’s kinda amazing actually.
Exactly the kind of guest Letterman deserved back then, a fellow interrupter 🤣. Howard really hasn't changed one bit.
He hasn't? He's a shell of his former self.....and that's putting it lightly.
Howard has become that which he's always hated and fought against..
I think he was being sarcastic
The goat Howard 💯
Howard’s been wearing a wig for his entire career. It’s mind blowing to me for some reason.
David Michael Letterman (12 de abril de 1947) es un presentador, comediante, escritor y productor de televisión estadounidense.
76 AÑOS.
From The Top Of The Howard Stern Building"
more old howard, please!
And now Stern is history 😆
Miss America
Howard was very handsome here.
Still is handsome!
At this point Howard may have been big in New York City, but most of the rest of the country still hadn't heard of him.
LOL he’s the long lost Ramones member
And he was 100000% correct
HOWARD.....YOU ARE KING OF THE NERDS
He actually thought as himself as King of the Dipshits.
So interesting how Howards actual voice has changed . he's still an a$$hole, but i love him.
Now, that looks more like the Howard Stern we know.
Thanks for dressing up, Howard
I commend the Howard of today for not pretending to be someone he isn't, meaning I'm glad he's not trying to keep doing what he did when he was younger, such as in this clip. An old-aged Howard of today talking sexual and hitting on younger women would be embarrassing. But that said, I am no fan of the Howard of today. This is just me talking, but I find what he does today incredibly boring, unfunny, not edgy, and really syrupy. Again, I give him credit for evolving, but what he's evolved into is simply not my cup of tea whatsoever.
*FUNNY GUY* 😂
Why wouldn't of CBS cut out him bad mouthing them? Not saying they should just saying they hated bad publicity.
Back when he was awesome
Howard actually thinks someone's a creep ?
"Do you think that Fox Network is going to work out?"
this was pre Simpsons FOX. Possibly pre Married With Children too. Their future was very much uncertain but did they ever take off
If your a gambler and don't consider us. Come to me. Mom! I got you.
4:27
was this before he straightened his hair and became the lead singer of depeche mode?
Well before Hollywood Howie, we miss you
YIKES🤬😱
my father was still a virgin when this was recorded
Hilarious stuff. This was one of the first times I'd seen Howard and he was beyond entertaining, for the 80s. Now everybody tries to do his schtick.
Everyone except Howard
self promotion as an art form
I wonder how he got kicked out.
Jerry!!!
But Behind me I Left behind ME and those thorns will Strike all of you. If on their side you win battles that defy All odds against them your defeated to a point of no denial. Shame enough that forces you to end All including your life. I understand this changes Game
Was this before the Serious xM deal?
Yes
Damm I miss Dave Letterman, Arsenio Hall, Jay Leno and also Johnny Carson.
"How do you think that FOX network is gonna work out?" Funny hearing that, knowing what FOX eventually becomes.
A success
But it is as it is
i dont think it was rca. it was GE that fired him. They Used a "push Button" to fire him
Nice of Howard to have worn his pajamas.
This was before he had Stylist To The Stars RalphieCakes.
@@ml9867now he dresses like hot topic skater boy. He always looks ridiculous 😅
Hes sick of everyone the way a businessman is sick of networking...he enjoys it.
Jackie wrote how much of this?
Jackie rules!
He just punched it up
@@Tommyr Acceptable answers are, F Jackie or Jackie is a drunk, a big stupid drunk. Thems were the days.
@@marswillrule2431 I miss them, so much.
Before he was a sellout
Howard was a good looking guy.
Understand there are ordinary Humans and then us
Howard probably cringes at this appearance nowadays
I think this must be before 1997. I’m also interested in understanding what type of narcissist disguise because she’s the fund kind, and I can listen longer than some other people can.
*Incredibly interesting to see how Howard Stern has evolved since then !!!!!!!!!!!... It is extremely interresting to note that the 1986 Howard Stern we see and hear in this video is the exact man-on-the-street the 2022 Howard Stern AND the 2022 David Letterman would ostensibly despise and ridicule ! And would probably call a "Far-Right extremist" or a "Trumpist" or something like that... See what I mean ???... Very interesting indeed, thank you.*
You're reaching a bit there buddy.
Nothing he said here has to do with Donald trump or right wing politics. You sound insane
Gee Howard... maybe some of the people you worked with didn't like you either.
Howard Stern became everything he used to hate.
Sad that Howard has now become Imus and probably even worse
This was the Howard I loved, I wonder what happened to the guy? He is a shell of who/what he use to be. Sad.
That’s what endless therapy will do to someone
Can't believe I just watched the entire interview. Didn't find Stern interesting 38 years ago, and I still don't get it. I believe most of his appeal is for people who had extremely strict parents that never allowed them to laugh at farts or genitalia jokes as 7 or 8 year olds.
What ever happened to this Howard Stern character? Does he still work in radio and fight against the "man" like this?
Now he kisses the celebrity asses that he used to mock and he rakes in the millions for phoning it in.
So much money, time, and success killed his edge.
He just wants to cozy up to Hollywood.
Like they say: everyone has their price
He got older and mellowed. That's what happened.
HOWARD AN ICON AND HE IS **AMERICA** If we lose people that have GUTS like him we will lose our real FREEDOMS in this country STERN IS A LEGEND AND A PATRIOT LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS GUY He blew the lid on CORPORATE AMERICA AND POLITICS BRILLIANT MAN!!!
