I didn't know Prince on a personal level like you, but I still feel I know him, because when I struggled in my life I can always find a song from him that make me relate to him. Nona- I rarely feel such deep empathy as I do for you. It is very rare that a couple splits + are able to describe their then partner, years later, the way you just did. The average person is lucky to find “one” person, in their lifetime, where their love really does last til one physically passes on. But I feel that Prince had a problem with going beyond a certain level of intimacy where one commits to another- to trust them enough to expose a deeper part of him + trust the other to not abandon, accept, + truly love him for the man Prince vs the “star” Prince. I think, initially, being able to relive that amazing feeling of meeting + getting to know so many women up to a point but dealing with the hurt of starting to love them was softened by the next relationship. I think in the end he must have wished he’d have been able to overcome the problem + have some with him who, over the years, REALLY knew him + they were happy together. I first met Nona-via my girlfriend-Nona's mother-Marvin's widow back when she was 14. I've known the family since then and have been part of good and bad times. This obviously falls under the "bad times." Poor Nona-had to first deal with the murder of her father (by her grandfather) and then lose another man she loved. I agree with Nona, Prince was a very funny man and that's pretty much how we met. He was also so very private and that's another reason I kept our short relationship quiet. There's 2 regrets I have, one of them is not moving to Minnesota with him when he begged me to, and the other is not telling him a secret between us that would have changed our lives, but I didn't tell and can't because I respect him too much. It's a long story that I can only share with him. It's nothing bad but rather the opposite and would have made him the happiest he'd ever been. I'm sure he knows now that he's on the other side but I should have told him earlier. He's such a special person but he's also just like all of us and just wanted to be loved and not used for what people could get from him like money, careers, fame, notoriety, etc. He is a human being just like the rest of us and that's why we connected so well, because I wanted nothing from him and still don't and that's another reason I haven't said anything because I don't want anyone to think I'm being a gold digger or any such thing.
+Nona I want to thank you for talking with me and I think it's great to finally talk to someone who also actually knew Prince. I didn't tell a lot of people but my close friends. One of my friends was with me at the time I first met him. He was the one that actually followed me around and pulled a couple little pranks before he decided to actually say Hi to me. We had a lot of private discussions and talked about our childhoods and we were amazed at how much ours were the same. He taught himself guitar and piano when he was not allowed out of his room/house and the same thing happened to me and I taught myself the flute using a friend's and then my own once my parents finally gave in and bought me one. I really wish I had moved to Minnesota with him when he begged me to, but I didn't and that's the biggest regret I have. The 2nd is the information that I have that might have changed our lives but I didn't tell him and now I'm dealing with it and there's nothing I can do but tell the people involved and deal with the anger and hurt I have caused. I should have just told everyone in the first place.
+Suzy Olive You know I was only sharing about my experience with Prince. I know the truth and so does he, and yes he asked me several times to move to Minnesota with him but I told him I couldn't. I didn't say it to be mean to him but at the time I just couldn't, now I wish I had. He was a great man and friend and I miss him a lot as do all of his family, friends, and fans. He made a huge impression on my life and I just wish I could have been there for him when he really needed a friend and needed help. If you don't believe me then that's your choice but he really did ask me many times to go to Minnesota with him.

+Nona I want to thank you for talking with me and I think it's great to finally talk to someone who also actually knew Prince. I didn't tell a lot of people but my close friends. One of my friends was with me at the time I first met him. He was the one that actually followed me around and pulled a couple little pranks before he decided to actually say Hi to me. We had a lot of private discussions and talked about our childhoods and we were amazed at how much ours were the same. He taught himself guitar and piano when he was not allowed out of his room/house and the same thing happened to me and I taught myself the flute using a friend's and then my own once my parents finally gave in and bought me one. I really wish I had moved to Minnesota with him when he begged me to, but I didn't and that's the biggest regret I have. The 2nd is the information that I have that might have changed our lives but I didn't tell him and now I'm dealing with it and there's nothing I can do but tell the people involved and deal with the anger and hurt I have caused. I should have just told everyone in the first place.

+Suzy Olive You know I was only sharing about my experience with Prince. I know the truth and so does he, and yes he asked me several times to move to Minnesota with him but I told him I couldn't. I didn't say it to be mean to him but at the time I just couldn't, now I wish I had. He was a great man and friend and I miss him a lot as do all of his family, friends, and fans. He made a huge impression on my life and I just wish I could have been there for him when he really needed a friend and needed help. If you don't believe me then that's your choice but he really did ask me many times to go to Minnesota with him.
