Id like to pick yor brain about the cichlid tank you keep in your classroom and what do you teach the students about it. I have 11 large tanks in class designated towards african cichlids. Hope to talk soon. Keep up the good work

    Hi guys, thanks for all your content, it’s really great. I’m gradually adding various Cichlids and have purchased a wave maker too. Most of the fish I’ve bought are very young and there’s more to come. I’m wondering about flow strength and whether to put the wave maker in now or wait until the young fish develop a little?

    • @CichlidBros
      @CichlidBros  7 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks for following along! You should be fine to add the wavemaker in. As long as it doesn't seem to be blowing the fish around, they'll do just fine and almost all cichlids enjoy the flow

  • @MrTurboCat21

    A good rule of thumb with feeding is, 'if you think you're not feeding enough, you're probably feeding too much'. Meaning that fish require very little throughout the day. A few small feedings throughout the day is more natural. As fish are natural foragers. They don't have one large meal a day like we do. They spend hours throughout various parts of the day looking for morsels of food. Not just the morning. But Morning, midday and evening.

    Big tanks need a wet/dry with a uv lite. Have been using them on large tanks (500 gal) plus for yrs with monster fish and heavy bio loads.

    • @CichlidBros
      @CichlidBros  7 месяцев назад

      I wouldn’t say they “need” those things. You can definitely have crystal clear water without spending a ton of money on a UV

    Any tips on cleaning inside glass of brand new tank??.....lots of fingerprints and glue residue from the advertisement sticker. I just want to use something fish safe since it's on the inside. Thanks and great channel.

    • @thomaxtube
      @thomaxtube 6 месяцев назад

      If you don’t have water inside yet, you can use bit of white vinegar removes almost all stains related to aquarium keeping - sticker glue comes off with dab of coconut or olive oil and piece of cloth to rub with, then just wipe the oil off with a bit of tissue paper, finish off with little vinegar if necessary, most like not needed.
      If you have already filled the tank with water, use razor blade instead, to glide along & clean the glass inside. 😊

    There's another outstanding option for maintaining both the clarity and quality of the tank water, if you have the space and budget for it: an RO/DI system. It's a lot easier to keep clean, clear water when you start with clean, clear water.

    Do your african cichlids ever rub their body on the sand?

    • @CichlidBros
      @CichlidBros  7 месяцев назад

      Occasionally. It's usually called "flashing" and occurs when they're irritated - could be a change in temp, water params, territorial aggression, breeding, etc. Not a big issue unless it happens often
