Thanks dude, you’re the man. You just resolve a problem I have with my mbuna yellow lab tank, I have cloudy water due to over feeding, yeh I guess we are all guilty of doing this. I’m now going to take a large s-once filter from one of the five tanks and put it in the cloudy water tank, I’m confident this with do the trick, plus I have turned off the lights and stopped feeding my mbuna tank for a couple of days. Thanks again for your advice. Best regards.

Much appreciated Kev, keep up the great work and great content!
Kev you are the man! So glad I found your channel. I got into the hobby about a year ago and after my tank caught a bad case of ich I lost 80% of my fish. Man thats tough to go through losing so many fish, but I'm glad I was able to help you get back into it! Thanks for that positive feedback, its greatly appreciated! 😊
Kev gets in there with that scrub wand and goes to town, I opt for a mag float and dry hands😂!. A great way to cycle a new tank is to set it all up and then use that tank to clean your sponge filter(s). I squeeze out the sponge filters and rinse all the mulm out of them into the new tank. The filter in the new tank cleans up the water and all that bacteria are now right in the new filter where they can grow out. I give the tank a shot of ammonia and let it go. On my 90 gallon I keep 18 yellow labs. I use an fx4 ,magniflow 360 and a small Hygger sponge filter. You can’t even tell I have water in the tank. Sponge filters are overlooked gems in the aquarium world. People who have never used one can’t begin to know just how well they work until they do. Very good advice for anyone having water quality issues.

I never do water change of a 75 gallon tank but replace the water due to evaporation (open top tank - the tank is half filled with 10 of 2.5 Hans discus). I don't use any type of filters. Add tank mates like cardinal tetras and Sterbai Cory catfish to clean up leftover. Use wave makers and air pump. Have plenty of emersed plants (put the root part into a glass jar) to absorb phosphate from the frozen food. Place the jars inside plastic pots filled with aquarium gravel. Use Fluval 3.0 LED plant light. Daily: Put a capful of Seachem Prime (neutralize the ammonia, nitrite and nitrate but still foods for the plants and beneficial bacteria), a pinch of baking soda (keeping the PH stable due to the frozen food from Hans) into the tank. When replacing the water, put a teaspoon of API Algaefix in the tank to keep the water clear. Used 1/2 a teaspoon at the beginning. Use a net to scoop out whatever I don't want to look at.
Kevin man. You are the best when it comes to illustrations of Aquarium, Fish tanks. Etc. I have a 60 gallon marineland tank and I have followed all of your know- how techniques and they have been spot on man. Keep the good knowledge coming bruh.
Quick question, how many times would you reuse your poly-fill/filter wool, and how would you know when to replace them? Love the content! Thanks so much! Super informative!
Never re-use polyfil or any other Fine filter media. Replace it when your filter output flow starts to reduce. That means your polyfil is clogged up and needs a replacement.
Thanks so much! Thank The Lord I have been doing that haha. Rookie mistake avoided! I always replace them as by the end of a month when maintainence is due, I notice outflow from the canister is low. True enough the filter wools are full of waste particles! You're the best mate!@@KaveManAquatics

African Cichlid tanks are overstocked by design. And yes, keeping these type of fish do require frequent big water changes. It's the price you pay for keeping beautiful fish 😁

Awesome, very easy to read understand and apply. Covers all basis and very informative. I very seldom struggle with cloudy water anymore but i like to still refresh myself with knowledge and can attest that cloudy water is usually our own doing, too much overfeeding or too much cleaning are, in my experience the only culprits to cloudy water other than setting a new tank and the bacteria bloom that comes with that but even with that leave it alone throw in some prime every 48hrs and some stability, both products of seachem everyday for 7 consecutive days and some polyfil and it will clear in usually 7-10 days. I aldo love to use seachem purigen in all my tanks at all times. Id post videos but as a stay at home dad with a very young boy its difficult to find the time lol

We got a 35-gallon tank with 6 Neon Tetras and 3 Albino Corys. How often should we do a water change? We just did a water change Saturday and the water is starting to get cloudy. You got you a new sub a s well.
Water changes should be done based on your nitrate levels. Test your water and that will determine a good schedule for you. Watch this playlist when you can, it's very helpful for beginners - ruclips.net/p/PLP5OXTIIDO8NYvhUHAmwAd54WFmS4d8er
I learned that using seachem purigen during tank nitrogen cycle may slow it down a little due to how it absorbs most of the waste causing the converting of ammonia to nitrites really slows it down. Seachem recommended that while you can use it in cycle but main use is for after cycle.
Found out the hard way on why my ammonia wasn't converting into nitrites during my fish in cycle and I was getting worried because I see all the fish waste on substrate but no nitrites and ammonia spikes from .25-1ppm and back down lol. Even overdose with stability wasn't helping. So hopefully the removal of the purigen will kick this thing into overdrive.
With regards to the polyfil.....how often would you change it, and it's going to be full of beneficial bacteria, so when you change it are you causing a big reduction of beneficial bacteria. I understand that it is everywhere, on your rocks, driftwood, glass, basically everything in the tank. Is the premise that enough beneficial bacteria exists that swapping out the polyfil won't affect the tank? I currently run 2 HOB's and a sponge filter on a 75 gal. I have polyfil in both my HOB's.
Hey KaveMan. I could guess but thought I'd just ask.... What type are the rocks in the tank right at the start of the video? Thanks for your awesome content.
My wave maker is on the left facing the outlet of the filter. I can not angle the filter heads to the same direction of the wave maker as they are in the corner of the tank as the corners have cut outs for the pipe, where else could I place the wave maker to get the circulation? As at the minute I have the wave maker and fx4 nozzles going head to head
Hey Kav! I am new to this hobby and recently subscribed to your channel. I have 10 gallon tank, medium stock, as of no live plants. I bought the cannister filter, can you help me understand if I need to keep the filter ON 24x7 or is it ok to keep it off during night? Appreciate your time and help.
Hi. At the moment I have a 24 litre tank, I just purchased a 180 litre tank. I want to know if I ad the water from my small tank into the bigger one if it's safe to transfer my fish or if should I wait and cycle the new tank. I'm a newly to this hobby.

I put in alge wafers but my gourami fish won't let them near it. HELP! thanks for the time you take to Make videos to help us out.
Hey Kev, thanks for the great advise and videos, and if I see it correctly in the photo on the wall, THANKS FOR YOUR SERVICE!! I am going to add Poly-fil, as I am constantly struggling with hazy water, do you rinse it first, or just add it in?

i love your tutorials so thank you for those. I love fancy goldfish and have two tanks - I have 2 x 15cm black moors in one tank and 2 small orandas and a ryukin in the other tank. I am struggling with ammonia spikes and unstable ph on occasions and water that is not crystal clear. I do everything that i supposed to ie: water changes, maintenance of filters but never on water change day. I monitor all perameters regularly. I am suspecting that i am guilty of overfeeding my fish - i cant resist the way they beg for it. Either that or my filters are not doing their job. I use a Seachem HOB and I also have Aqua One filters that attach to inside the tank. I also make sure that I have the 3 types of media and I use Seachem products such as: Prime, Stability, Equilibrium (tank water) and Purigen when needed. Any tips and advice is greatly appreciated. What are the most efficient filters for my grubby goldfish and how much should I feed them?????

I love your tank man, and those fish!! Wud up though!!!!
Thanks! 😊
Great channel i have learned a lot and subscribed. Good stuff man.
Glad to hear it! Thanks!
Hey Kev, when do you do live streams for Q&A
I learned that using seachem purigen during tank nitrogen cycle may slow it down a little due to how it absorbs most of the waste causing the converting of ammonia to nitrites really slows it down. Seachem recommended that while you can use it in cycle but main use is for after cycle.
Forgot to mention that seachem purigen this works great with seachem matrix.
Yes that is very likely at makes total sense. I would not use it during the cycle and wait until after as well.
Hello Kave m a new fish tank lover just bought a 30 G tank was wondering how do I add water to it n how do I change water
Thank you!! 🤩
MAN I want that white Peacock!
"white night" 😁
With regards to the polyfil.....how often would you change it, and it's going to be full of beneficial bacteria, so when you change it are you causing a big reduction of beneficial bacteria. I understand that it is everywhere, on your rocks, driftwood, glass, basically everything in the tank. Is the premise that enough beneficial bacteria exists that swapping out the polyfil won't affect the tank? I currently run 2 HOB's and a sponge filter on a 75 gal. I have polyfil in both my HOB's.
Thanks buddy.
No problem 👍
that was good info bro
Mike S Glad you enjoyed it! 😊
Great informative video!
Thanks! Glad it was helpful!
Excellent video. Qs. Do you leave your wave maker running 24-7? Or do you shut it off at night to give the boys a break ? Txs !!!
Thanks bro! I leave mine on 24/7 but my new wavemaker has a night mode where it auto decreases power at night which produces less flow.
Using api bio media water care plus
Hey KaveMan. I could guess but thought I'd just ask.... What type are the rocks in the tank right at the start of the video? Thanks for your awesome content.
Theyre from petsmart. But you can find the link in my shop - koji.to/kaveman_aquatics
thank you for the video, what is that white speaker looking thing on the side of your tank?
Nice video, surprised you don’t have more subs
Thanks man, I started the channel about 6 months ago...The growth has been amazing! 😊
Great videos, btw, do you only keep African cichlids?
@@NAMEERKLIFTS For now yes, but plans for more tanks are already in motion! 😁
Never can have too many tanks haha, good luck with the future tanks then
PetTide Not at all lol!! Thanks!
This channel is amazing! What size wave maker do you recommend for a 230 litre tank? That’s around 55 us gallons
Thank you!! 😊 I would go with the 800 GPH I have linked in the description. Or you can find it in my shop - koji.to/kaveman_aquatics
Thank you for your advice you have helped me with my 60 gallon freshwater tank. Quick question what is the maximum fish I could have?
About 50inches worth of fish
So like 30small ones
Hi. At the moment I have a 24 litre tank, I just purchased a 180 litre tank. I want to know if I ad the water from my small tank into the bigger one if it's safe to transfer my fish or if should I wait and cycle the new tank. I'm a newly to this hobby.
So, just how much and how often should I feed! Please!

U did a video about bio home ultimate .i bought some and put it in also I use Puritan and chemipure blue put 2 new bags in . Heard it might slow the process of biohome . What do u think should I have not put it in with biohome ..I am just going to leave my Purigen and chemi pure blue in and see what happens .just wanted your opinion on this matter ..once again thanks for all the great videos
jlm m I heard the same thing, so I removed the chemi pure blue and the purigen but so far my nitrates have not changed at all from week to week...I am waiting a full 4 months before making a new video on the bio-home.
Any recommendations to maintain gold fish scale and color..??
Sorry, not much experience with gold fish…but like every fish maintain good water quality.
How often do you need to clean the spong filter
I try not over feed my fish. I have taken your advice about giving enough that it's all eaten before it hits the bottom. Problem, I have julii pleco's x2 how do I feed them? I put in alge wafers but my gourami fish won't let them near it. HELP! thanks for the time you take to Make videos to help us out.
Trying sneaking in those wafers at night after lights out. Your plecos have a better chance of getting some 👍
Hey Kev, thanks for the great advise and videos, and if I see it correctly in the photo on the wall, THANKS FOR YOUR SERVICE!! I am going to add Poly-fil, as I am constantly struggling with hazy water, do you rinse it first, or just add it in?
Yes that is me 25 years ago 😊 Thank you! You dont need to rinse the poly-fil, simply install in the filter. You will see an immediate improvement. If you dont get to the clarity you really want grab my book with everything you need to know to get there! bit.ly/clearH2O
Big fan. I have 2 wave makers. Sponge filter and a fluval fx4. Me question is where do you put the poly-fil material in the canister?
Heres a helpful video - ruclips.net/video/KbpEpfeGaHI/видео.html
Which type of African cichlids can we keep together? What you suggest? Im looking for colorful fishes, friendly behavior and less aggressive and good looking obviously
If you like color fish then african cichlids are a good choice! You mostly want to stick with either Peacocks and Haps together or just Mbuna together...Check out this video with some good info ruclips.net/video/vD3aL5ONwzo/видео.html
@@KaveManAquatics thanks buddy.
TUSHAR KARMOKAR No problem 👍
Puragine is supposed to remove nitrat I notice you throw it out it can be recharged
Purigen does not remove nitrate. Yes it can be re-charged, I choose not to.

Thanks! 😊
Question I have 4 fish do I still use the same measurements as you did?
i love your tutorials so thank you for those.
