This movie set-up a whole new STAR TREK that worked for the Old Fans but they really dropped the ball with the second movie doing a remake of WRATH OF KHAN, it was way too soon to go there with the new team as people had only seen them for 2 hours so who would CRY if one died? This movie really delivers to folks who regularly watched the original series. The casting alone of the young versions of those characters is a delight. Really great choices. I LOVE IT!!!
This movie holds a special place in my heart: it was the last thing I ever watched with my grandfather, a lifelong Trekkie, before he died in 2010. I watch it every year on his birthday. Funny side note: his birthday is May 4 a.k.a. “‘Star Wars Day”
Oh my god I can’t even, “Let’s name him after your Father,” 😢 Devastated The opening of Godzilla with Brian Cranston and Juliette Binoche is another that I didn’t even see coming and will never forget.
As a life-long Trekkie, yeah, this movie is a pretty good intro for people who want to dip their toes into the franchise. I do hope you guys keep going and really dive into the series and shows. Because Star Trek is this beautiful mess where you can have some of the most engaging, most thought-provoking science fiction you've ever seen... or some of the absolute worst crap you've ever laid eyes on.
Hardcore trekkie here in my middle 50s. I grew up on the original run of movies starting in 1979. I loved Star Trek 2009, it was a brilliant way to re-envision the original series while freeing the writers to subvert expectations. As you go back and watch the original series (TV and movies), you'll probably enjoy seeing the inspiration for the many, many callbacks in the 2009 movie. Star Trek comes with its own ethos and vision of the possibilities for our own future, and you'll find that many of us fans believe strongly in those moral values. Live long and prosper!
I’m guessing Karl Urban is a very good actor who conducts himself in a very professional manner and gets along well with other people. That’s probably how he gets so many great projects.
Karl Urban is also a fan of the material in a lot of cases. He did Dredd not for the paycheck but primarily because he is a fan of the comics that it is drawn from. I think that helps him to do so well in the roles that he lands.
According to what happened on set. Karl Urban did such a good job as Bones, it brought Leonard Nimoy to tears "It's as if my good friend DeForest Kelley was standing here among us"
As someone for whom the character of Eomer was my first book crush, when I saw The Two Towers and Karl Urban was Eomer? Yes, please!!! He was soooo great in the role, just as I had imagined for those twenty years before the films came out.
I remember showing my dad the trailer for this when it first came out and he lost his shit!! He actually remembers watching the first episode of the Star Trek series when it originally aired. I absolutely love this movie and I’m not even that big of a Trek fan. So glad you two are checking this one out, I think you’re going to love these.
Karl Urban’s performance as Bones was so spot on that Nimoy is said to have shed a tear because it reminded him of the late DeForest Kelley. The man truly is talented
In the transporter room sitting next to the guy playing Scotty who has no lines is James Doohan son who actually plays his dad part as chief engineer on Star Trek Continues Chris Doohan.
JJ Abrams who directed this '09 updated version and had a huge hand in its rebooted story has always been very vocal about how he was always a Star Wars guy, never a Trekkie. So much so the studio finally had to tell him to shut up during press promotion about it as he told every entertainment outlet how he never watched Star Trek, being he was a Star Was frantic his whole life. It's pretty hilariously blatant he directed Star Trek like it was Star Wars, literally using George Lucas's actual only two notes of directing on the original film as this movie's on-set mantra which was: faster, more intense. So you and Abrams' sensibilities line-up here perfectly.
Trekkie here. I genuinely liked this movie. It had some awesome Easter eggs for those of us who loved the original series, and it also took some creative liberties to keep us interested, and get younger generations into it. Thanks for the upload!
I think it's interesting to point out. The Narada (Nero's ship) was a Romulan MINING VESSEL. The other ships in the future were probably even bigger, which is crazy to think about.
Trekkie my whole life, going back to the original series.... Yeah im old. This movie actually blew my expectations out of the water "especially Karl Urban's version of Bones". This is the perfect movie to get new people into the Star Trek Universe.
The guy who got killed in the Romulan drill... you picked up on his enthusiasm and worried for him. Trekkies knew from the second they saw him wearing red he was in danger, even before he spoke - it's known that red shirted security officers who go on 'away' missions generally don't make it back :)
Love this reaction! I’m a huge Star Trek fan so I definitely recommend watching the older movies. Calling Kirks stepfather a loser almost made me spit my drink out😂

Someone asked Gene Rodenberry that question, when Captain Jean-Luc Picard (also bald... he's played by Patrick Stewart) was revealed in the early days of Next Generation: why wouldn't the future have better hair restoration technology, and he responded "People in the future don't care about baldness." I am a gigantic Trek nerd, all the way back to when I was 5 or 6 (so it would be 1972 or 1973). I was being babybsat by my 88 year old Great-Grandmother, who sat me down in front of the tv during lunch, and we ate tuna fish sandwiches and watched Star Trek. She was a huge -- HUGE -- fan of Star Trek, and her enthusiasm for the show caught with me. I've loved the show in all its incarnations ever since.
I envy you guys taking a real dive into Star Trek for the first time. There’s a whole world - or should I say galaxy - of amazing stories waiting for you.
Hard Core Trekkie here. JJ first film here knocked it out of the park. the Casting was perfect, effects and music was amazing. My only criticism was the design of the Enterprise. It was way to big, and only the saucer looked good. every other part was junk. But then, I am a ship nerd. I loved they went full action movie. Thats something new to Trek. Trek has action but they were not what I consider action movies. Of the JJ films, this is the best one to me. The others are good, but this one is the best of his.
I agree with the way the music for the movie was handled. Michael Giacchino, who composed the score, fully utilized the themes from the original series in amazing ways. One of the funny things with the Kelvin Timeline Star Trek movies was the friendships that bloomed between the Spock actors Zachary Quinto and Leonard Nimoy and the Kirk actors Chris Pine and William Shatner. Shatner made a documentary where he interviewed all of the Star Trek captains (Patrick Stewart, Avery Brooks from DS9, Kate Mulgrew from Voyager, Scott Bakula from Enterprise, and Pine from the Kelvin Timeline), and the interview with Pine was just heartwarming how much Shatner was proud of Pine's performance in the movies. There is a funny commercial that Quinto and Nimoy made for Audi that you should see AFTER you start the Star Trek Original Cast movies, specifically after Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.
This was my introduction to Star Trek! There’s a lot to love and a lot to roll your eyes at, especially if you go watch the older stuff. But what I really love about Star Trek is their focus on the philosophical discussions and ethical conundrums they navigate, not just the action.
So Vulcans, much like the Romulans (a close cousin to Vulcans), in their early history were very warhawkish, they eventually came up with a means to "spiritually" ""sever"" their emotions to the point of nearly entirely acting off of logic. However to say all their emotions are gone is a lie, but they try their best to not act off of emotion.
This film had one of the more ill-advised cut scenes in recent years, which showed Nero's crew had been arrested by the Klingon's shortly after their arrival and had been in a penal colony. Without that scene, you get the impression they've just been sitting on their asses for 20+ years, rather than doing, you know, ANYTHING that might prevent the planet's destruction. And there was another one showing Spock's birth, which is the whole reason they cast Winona Ryder instead of a more age-appropriate actress.
@benguensche Sort of. Yes their planet was destroyed in their timeline. But when they travelled back into the past it hadn't happened yet and they created a whole alternative timeline. Theoretically, they could have prevented it from possibly happening in the future of THIS timeline instead of, y'know, killing millions of innocent people in revenge for something that hadn't even happened yet.
@@emmaconnolly5738 And I've never gotten what he even wants revenge FOR. Everyone honestly did the best they could to help and it just didn't work out, so who exactly is he angry at?
Love that you were willing to jump in and just enjoy it. You can still have a good time without needing to have full detailed knowledge of every little bit of the universe. Hope to see you both continue the journey 🖖🏻
For someone jumping into Star Trek movie, this is a good start. You get to be introduced to the Characters all at once. Now during the movie there were hints from the other Star Trek TV series and movies. A whole lot of Easter eggs are in the movie that you wouldn't have catch because you haven't watched the series from the 60s or the other movies. This is called the Kelvin Universe. This timeline has actually been acknowledged in one of the other Star Trek series, Star Trek Discovery season 3. The Easter eggs for example, the voice of the computer, is the wife of the Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry, Majel Barrett this was the last film credit she did before she passed away. She was the voice of the computer on Star Trek Next Generation, Star Trek original series and Star Trek Voyager. The The real life son of the original actor Scotty, was in the transporter room when they beamed up Kirk, Spock and Pike. He was in red next to Scotty. There's a fan series called Star Trek continues on RUclips. The guy who plays Captain Kirk in that series popped up in the meeting on the bridge when they were talking about catching the Romulan spaceship, he's in gold. JJ Abrams invited him to a set and gave him a little cameo. You would never know it's him unless you watch the web series. If you're going to watch the original series movies you got to watch the original series. It's 79 episodes.
I really enjoyed the movie and reaction. What always bothered me was that they gave the title of captain and his own ship to a student, on accademic probation, who never graduated from the academy.
Before watching the next one in the series, watch wrath of Kahn. Part 2 of the old star trek. Best movie of that series plus will understand more about into the darkness
You've taken your first step into a larger world. As a hard core Trekkie I was ready to be disappointed when this was due to come out. And then they surpassed all my expectations. Every new cast is even better than the old one.
There is a good amount of cheesiness in the original series of Star Trek, but when it is good it's phenomenal. I really think you would enjoy it. I would be there for the whole journey. Live long and prosper.
See, the thing about Vulcans is they have 5x human physical strength, and they suppress their emotions because their emotions are similarly stronger than human emotion. Without logic, Vulcans would be terrifying and dangerous to everyone and themselves.
I love the Kelvin timeline. The casting is perfect. Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto are amazing. I've rewatched this movie so many times. I love it so much. Loved your reaction. The other two movies after this are very good.
i Remember watching this in the theater as a kid it was so cool watching all the aliens and space battles with the music in the background, so cool. the second one is even cooler i hope you guys enjoy it😄
This movie has such a great cast. Enjoyed every minute of it. Karl Urban was phenomenal. Fun Fact, when the Enterprise is flying through the debri at Vulcan, a tiny Artoo-Detoo can be seen floating by. If you want to watch the original series, there are actually two different pilots with two different casts. One is called “The Cage”, the other is “where no one has gone before”.
I can't get over the fact that Chris Hemsworth was Chris Pine's dad. It fits though, both are so handsome. When this movie came out, I thought it was okay, but then it pissed me off by having present and future Spock meet, breaking THE cardinal rule of Time Travel, never meet with yourself. _HOWEVER,_ after many more years of Doctor Who and multiple Doctor stories, my opinion has softened extremely on it. Now I think this is a great movie. Star Trek is a great world, I'm mostly a TNG girl, that being my generation (heh), but I enjoyed the original, and other shows, including Enterprise (last episode notwithstanding), because I loved Scott Bakula. Quantum Leap was one of my favorite shows too. I remember watching Karl Urban playing various roles on Xena and Hercules. He hasn't aged at all. Him and Paul Rudd must have common ancestry. Great reaction guys! I hope you continue in this universe. A LITERAL universe! 💙
Had the chance to see this at The Hollywood Bowl the day after the passing of Anton Yelchin. It was very beautiful to see this under the stars, orchestra playing and the action on the screen incredibly insane.
Long time Trek fan. Loved this. That being said this was made more like Star Wars meets Trek so the older Trek isn't this action packed. Star Trek The Next Generation is where Star Trek was reborn and became something of a Universe
NEEEEEEEEEEERDS!!! lol just kidding, I'm a huge Trekkie and I'm so happy you're doing this!! So I'll just watch this and then my daily episode of Star Trek...
Pike’s wheelchair is a reference to Pike in the original series getting heavy radiation burns and being confined to an even more extensive chair, where he can’t even talk, just using lights to say yes or no
The first 10 minutes of this movie are awesome but unfortunately I just don't think the rest of it really holds up to the name or the expectations that come with it. I think the best thing that can be said about it is that it got a LOT of people interested in Star Trek and Star Trek TNG.
I was born in 66. I grew up Watching the Star Trek re-runs in the 70. I saw saw the movies and watched The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine tv Shows. I Love This Movie....I recommend watching the Directors cut and the behind the scenes on the DVD. JJ Abrams director loved the original star trek this is his Love Letter to the original. He is also a lover of music 🎶 ❤
I was so relieved they made this into an alternate reality kind of show. I'm a huge fan of original Trek and you'd never be able to simply remake the magic. It was made from a vision of what the future could look like: a future free from racism and financial inequality and simple unmet needs (like food and shelter). It wrestled with the ethical questions of the mid-1960s and was fueled by American excitement for the space race and pure optimism of what space travel could mean. The creator Gene Roddenberry said, “’Star Trek' was an attempt to say humanity will reach maturity and wisdom on the day that it begins not just to tolerate but take a special delight in differences in ideas and differences in lifeforms." Every Trek spin-off succeeds when they don't try to copy the characters or formula but rather seek to wrestle with the ethical dilemmas and societal problems of their contemporary landscape. You can adopt the same hunger for exploration, sense of justice, dedication to ethical behavior, and delight in intellectual curiosity but you could never photocopy the identical characters and stories. It was a genius move to take the original characters we love but set them on such a different path that they are, in essence, new to the audience. They are not as burdened by the epic legacy of the show. This is such a great film and really lived up to the franchise.
That guy was one of the infamous "red shirts." In Swahili, Nyota means star, and Uhura means freedom. Mrs. Nimoy was standing between her husband and Zachary Quinto at a convention or something, waiting to go on, and looked from one to the other and said, "This is weird."
Interesting to see someone start Trek with the reboot - but certainly a valid option. :) There is, of course, LOADS of stuff you don't know, but the movie is written in a way that you'll get into the way the universe works too. Just keep in mind that this is based on almost 50 years of stories on the small and the big screen and in novels. Part of the things that happen in this movie here did not "originally" happen in Star Trek: Nero didn't turn up, Kirks father lived, Kirk and his brother grew up rather happy and amongst other stuff Vulcan doesn't get destroyed. These are all new "time paradoxon" elements - officially this is a paralell version of the original Trek. The cast are doing a fantastic job playing their characters - without copying the original actors. Kirk is Kirk, not an actor trying to play Kirk the way Shatner did. The same goes for Spock, McCoy and the rest. The original series, shot in the 60s, of course is no where near as bombastic and visually impressive, often it's outright cheesy for today's viewing habits. But it's still worth watching, there's some really good stories in it where the visuals don't really matter. Feel free to check it out as well. :)
Good choice beginning with the "reboot" movies for the franchise, but after finishing the 3 reboots, I'd love to see you do the 6 TOS and 4 TNG movies as well. (Don't get thrown off by the 1979 original's slow pace, they get much better by the second. Rumor has it the even numbered movies are the superior ones, though I don't believe that personally.) I've been a fan since the early '70s and I think that the change in timeline was pulled off successfully, perhaps because fans are already accustomed to "mirror universe" episodes across the franchise. I have personal beef with the appropriation of a character in the next reboot movie so it's my least favorite of all the Trek movies. The third reboot movie is another banger though and I hope you'll react to it as well.
I started in Junior High, the casting was perfect. I could never get into Star Wars because of Star Trek. ❤❤😍😍. Special effects in Star Trek was way ahead of its time. DO MORE!
As a long term Trekkie, I quite enjoyed this at the time. It had much of the spirit of the classic series but it did change Star Trek into more of an action film like Star Wars, and Trek was always more about character and ideas. It is definitely worth checking in with the classic series and films.
I'm in my 40s, and I remember watching The Next Generation when it was first aired. That's the one with Patrick Stewart. I really liked this reimagining. They did a good job of bringing the old characters from the original series into an in-universe alternate timeline. Lots of callout for the trekies, but a new story with an undecided future. Well made, faithful and lots of fun to watch!
I'm a casual trekie. Grew up watching the original series after school on tv. Saw the movies when they came out in the 80s. Liked "Next Generation" and watched it pretty much each week when on. I just don't get into knowing and keeping track of all the details like a full blowm trekie would. Anyway, for me I rented this soon after it came out on dvd. I didn't even realize they had made a new one. So I went into it not expecting much. I was so pleasantly surprised. I loved the new young actors coming in and injecting that fresh new energy into the whole thing. I totally approved of it. Also, the next one "Into Darkness" I found to be just as good as this one. These two movies put Star Trek pretty much neck and neck with Star Wars for me now. Yes I'm a casual Star Wars fan also.
I grew up watching the original series and films, which I absolutely loved. I have to say I was VERY skeptical when I heard they were rebooting it. It's very hard to replace actors who played the same characters for decades. But when I saw this film in the theater, I was pleasantly surprised, and I think most fans were. They did a great job of paying homage to the original films, yet making it fresh and new.
I can’t stop thinking about the MAD version of this movie. He was able to stop the ship from blowing up in the beginning, but the baby was so ugly, he blew himself up anyways 🤣🤣🤣
I never cared for star trek growing up, then my uncle took my brother and I to see this in IMAX in 2009 and was blown away by the spectacle of it all. Got into the whole franchise since then working backwards, and enjoyed the sequels despite how divisive longtime fans act to them.
YAY!! Finally! 😄Glad you guys liked it. This Star Trek fan likes the whole alternate universe story line. I hope you watch more because there are some great movies with the original cast and a couple great ones with the Next Generation cast. 🖖🏽
As a huge Trekkie, thanks for watching this. It’s not a bad place to jump in and test out the franchise. I hope you do get into maybe some of the best episodes of the original series and then the movies. And then, there’s the best show ever made (for me at least), Star Trek The Next Generation. It’d be cool to see you get into it.

Funny side note: his birthday is May 4 a.k.a. “‘Star Wars Day”
That's incredibly sweet. Did he have a favorite Star Wars movie or was he not into the series?
@@thenerdestate1533 No. He only watched Star Wars because I was into that.
The opening of this film is one of the most gut-wrenching scenes in history. Jennifer Morrison and Chris Hemsworth were fantastic.
Oh my god I can’t even, “Let’s name him after your Father,” 😢
Devastated
The opening of Godzilla with Brian Cranston and Juliette Binoche is another that I didn’t even see coming and will never forget.
@@wheredowegofromhere86 haven't seen it, but I guess I need to.
As a life-long Trekkie, yeah, this movie is a pretty good intro for people who want to dip their toes into the franchise. I do hope you guys keep going and really dive into the series and shows. Because Star Trek is this beautiful mess where you can have some of the most engaging, most thought-provoking science fiction you've ever seen... or some of the absolute worst crap you've ever laid eyes on.
correct, but mostly GREAT!
Trekkie here too... DS9 is the best of all the series, Sisko is the best captain... Prove me wrong 🖖
Luckily the bad episodes of TREK are frequently just as entertaining as the great ones.
It's the boring ones in the middle I have a problem with.
it sucks people had them react to the jjdrek before the actual movies.
Oh, come on! They got his brain back!
"why did he have to scream??" Oh the irony coming from these guys... Haha
After Kirk pissed off Spock and got his ass beat, he remembered, "Oh wait, Vulcans are pretty strong too, dammit"
One of the best film openings in modern history. Really, it is three separate openings, 3 captain introductions, one after the next.
Karl Urban did such a good job as Bones, it brought Leonard Nimoy to tears "It's as if my good friend DeForest Kelley was standing here among us"
Also has a good agent, I expect.
I've seen him in person and can say for sure he's a genuinely good person.
I had so much fun with this! Thank you
Karl Urban is on the Samuel L Jackson path of being in every major franchise and Zoe is not too far behind!
Very underrated movie and the casting was spot on.
It's pretty obvious he's not a fan of Trek when you look at these awful takes he did on it.
Trekkie here. I genuinely liked this movie. It had some awesome Easter eggs for those of us who loved the original series, and it also took some creative liberties to keep us interested, and get younger generations into it. Thanks for the upload!
There are actually several TOS episodes that indicate Uhura did have a "thing" for Spock.
I think it's interesting to point out. The Narada (Nero's ship) was a Romulan MINING VESSEL. The other ships in the future were probably even bigger, which is crazy to think about.
Actually, if you read the comics that give backstory for Nero and Ambassador Spock, that ship was augmented with Borg technology.
Calling Kirks stepfather a loser almost made me spit my drink out😂
I absolutely enjoyed this reboot. They did an excellent job of playing tribute to the original, while not copying it.🖖🏻
Welcome to fandom boys! Hope you continue the journey.
Yes please!!! Continue with it!!! Love yah guys!! This is honestly one of my favorite movies of all time!!!! And the cast is perfect!
I had so much fun watching you guys! Thank you!
Star Trek TOS Start to finish 76 Episodes. 😮 I'm there for it all!😊
79
It is about ding dang darn time! I’ve been dying for you guys to watch these! Believe it or not, they actually have great sequels, so no worries of being disappointed. Can hardly wait for the others and haven’t even started this one yet! Please don’t wait toooo long for the others. 🙏
You should definitely do ALL the Star Trek films!
That would be amazing!! But they would def have to watch at least a handful of the original series before going through with that journey.
@@hrs2044firstly, watching movies is not "journey". Second, watching the older series would just make them realize how bad these ones are by comparison
@@hrs2044 Not to mention a smattering of each season of TNG, otherwise the crew change in Generations is just abrupt and out of nowhere with no explanation or context whatsoever. Plus you need Best of Both Worlds to set up First Contact, which ideally means you need Q Who? to set up Best of Both Worlds. And onward goes this thing of ours.
@hettbeans One step at a time. Let em focus on just the original Trek movies and then they can decide if they wanna continue with the Next Gen and beyond. No need to scare em off with huge commitments upfront 😄
@ that’s a good point 👍
I loved Simon Pegg as Scotty in this..."unorthodox" intro to Star Trek (but its still a great film!).
Plus, Tyler "Madea" Perry as the head of the Council had me hearing his lines in Madea's voice!
16:08 ..."How is that Karl Urban has been in so many projects?"... He's been in a lot of excellent roles, but I'll never forget his best role as Cupid in Hercules: The legendary journeys". 🤣🤣 ... He also played Jules Caesar in that show (because why the hell not?)
Xena Warrior Princess... not Hercules (or maybe so, it is easy to get those 2 confused).... but he's been in a lot of great stuff, Eomer in LoTR, Doom, Dredd, the boys!
@@GreenBeanGreenBean You're both right. He was Cupid in Hercules and Caesar in Xena. And totally awesome in both.😉
I 100% want to see more Trek from you guys, if you do the older films ask your Patreon Homies to list the 3 or 4 eps of The Original Series that give the bit of backstory that gives the films the proper feel and emotion, Or just start from the start and watch the whole series then go into the movies, I'll be happy either way. Live Long and Prosper gentlemen
I’d recommend Space Seed, Balance of Terror, Errand of Mercy, and the episode with Spock’s parents before watching the classic movies
Someone asked Gene Rodenberry that question, when Captain Jean-Luc Picard (also bald... he's played by Patrick Stewart) was revealed in the early days of Next Generation: why wouldn't the future have better hair restoration technology, and he responded "People in the future don't care about baldness."
I am a gigantic Trek nerd, all the way back to when I was 5 or 6 (so it would be 1972 or 1973).
Giacchino also did the Doctor Strange music. There are a LOT of similarities to the themes.
This was my introduction to Star Trek! There’s a lot to love and a lot to roll your eyes at, especially if you go watch the older stuff. But what I really love about Star Trek is their focus on the philosophical discussions and ethical conundrums they navigate, not just the action.
Fun fact: On Nov. 22, 1968, an episode of “Star Trek” titled “Plato’s Stepchildren” broadcast the first interracial kiss on American television.
Life long Trekkie here, I absolutely loved this movie. Particularly in all of the small ways they honored the original series and the characters.
I am most grateful for this reaction video. Live Long and Prosper. 🖖🏾
We waiting for next 2
This film had one of the more ill-advised cut scenes in recent years, which showed Nero's crew had been arrested by the Klingon's shortly after their arrival and had been in a penal colony. Without that scene, you get the impression they've just been sitting on their asses for 20+ years, rather than doing, you know, ANYTHING that might prevent the planet's destruction. And there was another one showing Spock's birth, which is the whole reason they cast Winona Ryder instead of a more age-appropriate actress.
wait i thought nero's planet had already been destroyed in the future, "before" they arrived at the beginning of this movie... Did i get that wrong?
@benguensche Sort of. Yes their planet was destroyed in their timeline. But when they travelled back into the past it hadn't happened yet and they created a whole alternative timeline. Theoretically, they could have prevented it from possibly happening in the future of THIS timeline instead of, y'know, killing millions of innocent people in revenge for something that hadn't even happened yet.
@@emmaconnolly5738 And I've never gotten what he even wants revenge FOR. Everyone honestly did the best they could to help and it just didn't work out, so who exactly is he angry at?
@@Rmlohner RACISM, Nero blamed Spock because Romulans are Racist against Vulcans so when a Vulcan failed he blamed the whole race.
@@DanielRichards644not everything is "rAciSm" bro. This was clearly a personal vendetta against spock
Yo, by virtue of watching something from this franchise, I hereby dub thee "nerds". Live long and prosper! 🖖
One of my favorite movies, it’s so much fun and the young cast does an amazing job at capturing the feeling the original character
I really enjoyed the movie and reaction. What always bothered me was that they gave the title of captain and his own ship to a student, on accademic probation, who never graduated from the academy.
One of a million things wrong with these films.
22:32 External inertial dampener. Yep, the parking brake's on.
BTW: Did you catch the voice of Will Weaton aka Crusher? He's the voice of the Romulan warning about setting off the red matter.
Star Trek = subscription. So yes, please do all of it! 😅
23:56 Chris Pine doing his best Cartman impression 😂😂😂
Had the chance to see this at The Hollywood Bowl the day after the passing of Anton Yelchin. It was very beautiful to see this under the stars, orchestra playing and the action on the screen incredibly insane.
I love how it's what would have happened if things had been changed. How they are still who they are no matter their circumstances.
I loved this film. Didn't think I would, given I've been a fan of the series all my life but they did amazingly well with this.
Do every single Star Trek movie. All of them, all of them. Period. We'll love you even more for it!
From the casting to the break neck pacing to the VFX this movie is lightning in a bottle 👍
Long time Trek fan. Loved this. That being said this was made more like Star Wars meets Trek so the older Trek isn't this action packed. Star Trek The Next Generation is where Star Trek was reborn and became something of a Universe
The whole trilogy is really good, y’all gotta definitely continue 🫡
Your guys’s reactions are the best.
That guy was one of the infamous "red shirts."
In Swahili, Nyota means star, and Uhura means freedom.
Mrs. Nimoy was standing between her husband and Zachary Quinto at a convention or something, waiting to go on, and looked from one to the other and said, "This is weird."
This is the alternate timeline. The other timeline is the real one
Agree with a lot of the comments. More please! As a trekkie, I enjoyed this as it didn't destroy the original and brought its own flair to it.
Carl urban as bones best casting ever.
Good choice beginning with the "reboot" movies for the franchise, but after finishing the 3 reboots, I'd love to see you do the 6 TOS and 4 TNG movies as well.
(Don't get thrown off by the 1979 original's slow pace, they get much better by the second. Rumor has it the even numbered movies are the superior ones, though I don't believe that personally.)
I've been a fan since the early '70s and I think that the change in timeline was pulled off successfully, perhaps because fans are already accustomed to "mirror universe" episodes across the franchise. I have personal beef with the appropriation of a character in the next reboot movie so it's my least favorite of all the Trek movies. The third reboot movie is another banger though and I hope you'll react to it as well.
I’m a huge Trekkie and this movie was amazing to me! You’ll love the next one. It is just as good!
I started in Junior High, the casting was perfect. I could never get into Star Wars because of Star Trek. ❤❤😍😍. Special effects in Star Trek was way ahead of its time. DO MORE!
the sequel "Into Darkness" is incredible
As a long term Trekkie, I quite enjoyed this at the time. It had much of the spirit of the classic series but it did change Star Trek into more of an action film like Star Wars, and Trek was always more about character and ideas.
It is definitely worth checking in with the classic series and films.
Michael Giacchino, one of the rare bright spots to come out of Bad Robot's production company, did the music.
