Put washers behind the cap and spring to make it run higher spring pressure don’t stretch the spring

It is normal with big nozzle to have erratic idle rpm. The pulse duration is hard to control as it dump allot of fuel, but under load all is good.
This is the kind of content that first got me into watching this channel. Would definitely like more!!!
You should get KT3406 to build a second engine the kid knows his stuff

Great content, you should look at the Bora Centipede Folding Workstands. I use them for work they are super light and all you need is a pc of plywood. Good luck pulling.
I thought the C18 was the 1000hp and the C15 was the 800hp it’s been awhile since I worked on that boat sold it 7 years ago but it was always good to us!! Good luck Bruce!!

I just did an out of frame with my c-15. Seriously considered going c-18 parts, but I think a eco would have been needed too. Since mine was good I didn’t bother with the extra expense.

Yessir ! So happy for what you are doing with your pulling stuff again. BADASS
We inherited a clapped out freightliner back in 2007 that was used to pull giant manure tanks around New York State…it had a worn out c18 in it and that thing was a pig even though it had a lot of hard use on it. I could pull a load of corrugated cardboard around at 70mph easily in the hills of Pennsylvania. Thing had guts down to 1000rpm….it also cost a fortune in fuel compared to everything else.
My every day truck has a marine cam and a couple other goodies. They really do wake these motors up.

There’s a lot of things to do besides a cam change , coil bind , interference , spring pressures . Fuel pressure and delivery quality . When u change one thing , this changes everything .!!
The commonly available cams for these things the “800” and “1000” hp marine cams don’t change valve lift or profile from a run of the mill 3406e c15 cam. The only changes are to injector lobe profile
I agree. I would have done a more in depth job.
You should have used a wrench when you adjusted the valves, that way once you adjusted the valve you could lock it down right away. That's the way I was taught to do it at Universal Technical Institute.

I still don't buy that that's running right. I know proper fuel metering is really hard with large nozzles like that, but that sounds to me like a leaking valve or a badly spraying injector causing a skip. The fact that is doesn't start smoothing out until high rpm, even when it's being loaded up is what reinforces that opinion to me. Other pull rigs like this don't sound like that. They have a lope, but it's not a hard pop pop pop.

Paint pen on the idler gear is always a clear sign that someone who had no idea what they were doing had their hands in that gear set.
Should take and make a base for the old cam and make something out of it. If you haven't already
I usually take a flat metal band like the style you get when you order something on a pallet then metal band, Bend it in a U shape sit in the valley under the CAM and as your Copilot is pushing the CAM in you can lift with that band drill a hole through the ends of it run a bar through it then you can easily lift it up

I've got the Marine cam in my C15, does not idle like that, in fact I don't see much difference in power, to do this right there is a lot involved besides the cam.

Cat c 15/18 is like the LS of the diesel world. Gensets are detuned while marine setups are really pushed since they have so much cooling

I feel like all that can be tuned out still I know it’s an old ECM but still… ask Lawrence, Tim’s guy. Better you can get it to evenly distribute fuel, the better…. Way better on the longevity of any engine
Def had me cringing on the way he set the valves. Setting valves correctly is very important on getting it to run correctly.
Are we taking bets on how long before the crank breaks?! Typical E-model problem whenever you build real power.
