This song always hits me so hard. My grandmother passed away due to complications from dementia and my mother is at risk of suffering a similar fate... as am I. The amount of fear and confusion there is in this disease is just brutal. The idea of having every memory plucked away from you one by one until you forget how to breath, how to exist, is beyond sobering. Take care of your brain kids, dont abuse it with drugs and make sure you stay sharp by doing mental exercises. They do help mitigate the effects of dementia.
Heya man, back again to say I finally found the time to listen to the rest of the album. The Oubliette had me crying at the end of it. I have to commend you, dude, as you were screaming "please" and begging to be let out, I don't know what your headspace was while you were recording, but you sounded so wounded and desperate that I was trying so hard not to cry and failing at it. Furthermore, you built the whole album up so amazingly, making me care for Henry, making me wish for a swift end to his misery, that I felt genuine *relief* when his vitals tanked in ___. Relief that his suffering was finally over, just as I've felt for all my patients that are cursed with dementia or Alzheimers. Anyways, comments were turned off for the other tracks but I was deeply touched and moved by this entire album, so I came back to this one to let you know how much I appreciated it. Thanks for putting out this album and bringing some light to this awful disease, dude. This was beautifully done.
My grandmother passed away and went through this nightmare. My second grandmother is currently going through this, and it's really painful. I don't know if this theme came to you, The Reticent, from personal experience... But if not, I can imagine a concept album with a very powerful message about autism spectrum disorder. It's also personal to me, because my son is autistic, and overall romanticizing of this thing in pop-culture is such a stupid thing...
This is actually so cool, the video made me super depressed. I get mad opeth vibes from this with your own style mixed in. And the drum line was a good story telling element
And here I was thinking my AOTY was already defined before listening to this... Not today... Also, I can't believe you guys gave a face to poor Henry. This CD is so powerful that it's probably among my favorites of all time. Really didn't saw this coming. I'll spread the word everywhere. Thank you!
btw, I love the marching band drums. They build up the tension. They also remind me of watching Vice Principals, a very funny show if you haven't seen it.
I love this album. Progressive, thoughtful, great vocals, beautiful transitions, and incredible punch. I bought immediately after hearing this song on bandcamp. Support bands you love.
Here because my sister, Jamie, is half of Heaven and Hell Records; I work LTC, palliative and hospice care. Jamie told me I needed to listen to this album. I have to tell you, Chris, I was bawling halfway through His Name is Henry. This is such a difficult album to listen to, and this track isn't any easier to hear. I want to tell you that the jazz music was a very lovely, insightful additon; we regularly put jazz music on for our patients. They can't remember their children, but they remember every lyric to music they grew up with. I want to ask you where you got the inspiration from for some stuff in this video: for example, the woman cooking nothing, and then serving nothing? I ask because I've seen patients with Alzheimers do that before. Anyway, sorry, just curious because it seems like you've witnessed it firsthand like I have.
Thank you so much for listening. And thank you for working with people in need of care like that. Yes, I do have firsthand experience witnessing what Alzheimer's does so a lot of those experiences were represented in the album and the video. Indeed, jazz plays a significant role in representing an important part of Henry's past (which is also why there is less and less of it as the album goes on). The cooking and serving nothing was something director Justin Reich and I felt was both a literal and a symbolic gesture. Many of the visuals in the video were meant to represent memories that Henry cannot find anymore such as: the photo album that becomes empty, the gift box filled with leaves, the cards that eventually turn blank, and picture frames showed up a lot sometimes empty to name a few examples. There didn't appear to be many albums or music videos (to my limited knowledge at the time) especially in the metal world that tried to accurately capture or represent Alzheimer's so we did our best - we're very lucky to have such an amazing director/cinematographer as Justin.
@@TheReticent It's funny that you just replied; I was laying down and about to start where I left off: track 4. I got through 3 last night and knew I couldn't listen anymore without waking my husband with my crying. It was silent up until then, but on the brink if turning into sobbing. I noticed the box and the cards and their meaning was clear. I'm sorry yall had to witness Alzheimers firsthand. I witnessed it once with a family member before I started working in nursing, but it didn't make it any easier on me. You know, in nursing school, they have lessons on not getting attached and stuff, which cracks me up in hindsight. If you don't get attached, you're either a psychopath or not doing your job right, since 75% of the job is having a heart and showing empathy. Also, picking up something I didn't mention last night, the screaming resonates with me a lot. It clearly represents Henry's frustration and anger, as well as the rage I see in confused patients. So on that note, I really need to know: how did you know Henry? Is he someone you invented, or someone you were related to? Or was he someone you met in his twilight years that you grew close to?
Just recently discovered your music through this video. Now i'm completely hooked and bought your whole discography via Bandcamp. One The Eve Of A Goodbye and The Oubliette are both fantastic albums. Going to your two other albums aswell now. Thanks for writing and releasing this amazing stuff!
I was frustrated that I'd never heard of this band before - but now I'm just feeling a deep sadness that reminds me quite a bit of the same emotional notes I feel when I'm listening to another emotionally heavy (but not as musically 'heavy' as this one) album - Hospice by The Antlers - both albums hit hard and are emotionally intense listens - the emotions felt by you come across very strong and I'm looking forward to but feeling unprepared to listen to On the Eve of a Goodbye.
What have you done with my wife? (Get away from me!) Mary can you hear my voice? (I don’t belong here) Open this door Release me from this cage You have the wrong man I’m not a criminal Tell me what have you done with her? Terrifying to believe I’ve been locked away Must be some kind of mistake Who would leave me here alone? I can’t see the sunrise through these walls Who do thеy think I am? What do they think I’ve done? Thеy try to tell me that this is my home Malefactor they must think me to be Get out! Let me go! How can I convince them that I’m not the one Deserving to be here alone Get out! Let me go!
Seriously dude? Well be sure to go put the same comment on videos by Ihsahn, Black Sabbath, Cephalic Carnage, Napalm Death, Minsk, Tchornobog, Ex Eye, Rivers of Nihil, Tesseract, or any other band that dared to use a saxophone solo one time instead of a guitar like a million other bands. Cool gatekeeping bruh.
This band is criminally underrated.
The Oubliette has masterpiece written all over it, just like On The Eve Of A Goodbye was. Don't know how more people don't know about this band.
Thank you so much! We hope that The Oubliette lived up to your expectations. Hopefully we'll keep getting the word out to more people.

I cannot figure out how this band flew under my radar for as long as they did. This album is an absolute gem.
People should know about this band, this whole album is amazing
Thank you! And greetings from Mexico
A lot of Opeth and i hear some Riverside. Love it.
Some Opeth vibes with a Sepultura-style beginning
A very decent work, criminally underrated!
Holy. Crap. The differing dynamic sections in this song are so fantastic, and yet they blend so seemlessly. This is truly a work of art.
Thank you so much for the generous words!
I like it, sounds here and there, this song, like old Opeth, that makes me like it even more :)
This is amazing! Being a Wordsmith, I'd love to see the lyrics posted here or a lyrics version.
Album in my collection, best regards!

Masterpiece
I loved it

Thank you so much for the extremely kind words! We're honored you enjoyed the album so much!
No words guys, incredible album. Thank you for being so creative with a theme so visceral.

This is our Porcupine Tree. Immaculate performances, , surprising melodies and ear shattering moments. Fantastic job, Chris. Really.
If by Porcupine Tree you meant "what if instead of just producing an Opeth album, Steven Wilson wrote and performed one?", then I agree. 🙃
Absolutely stunning music and vocal. Sick lyrics
Totally awesome. After hearing this song a fan of this band for sure. You can hear when a band is good (even after only hearing one song).
Thank you so much for listening. Honored to have you as a fan.
Awesome. On the eve of a goodbye was fantastic album, this one is looking to be an equally great successor!
Thank you so much for listening to Eve. We hope that The Oubliette was a good follow up listen for you!
HEAVY OPETH VIBES 🔥🔥🔥
Outstanding in every way. Well done.

Sounds like an Opeth copy, but in this case it's def. more praise than badmouthing :P
02:02 oh my...
Opeth 2.0, yet very innovative.
2:02
opeth opeth rivers of nihil opeth ub40 opeth
Saxophone completely unnecessary... lol. It was really good until that. Trying too hard to be different, tbh.
