Well... I've listened to this 3 times in as many days.
This is retroactively the album of 2020 for me.
It's also the best concept album I've ever heard. Its at least the first one that the lyrics alone hit me emotionally. It's like dream theater rewrote scenes from a memory while trying to sound more like early opeth. Then Tool came in and forced them to write better lyrics and remove all the wankery that doesn't add to the song.
I don't think there's any filler here. The lyrics are deep, the drums are perfect, the vocals are the most emotive I've heard in progressive metal...
The guitars are something else, though. Is that a freaking shepherds tone illusion turned into a riff halfway through the nightmare? I don't know what else to call it. So many creative, great riffs.
Then I see 5k views, and only around 10k on spotify. Then I find out it's all one guy. This dude could be in my top 5 in progressive metal for every instrument. Maybe not technicality wise, but the song writing here is incredible.

Opeth lyrics are wankery? Lol. I don't know for certain, but I'd be sure that one man hasn't played and recorded everything on this album.

You make us listeners live through something awful, in an astonishing way. What you shared here, we can feel it, in a way that no words would ever explain. It is pure art, hijacking our senses and injecting your experience deep into our perception. Thank you for this and burn brightly.

I have never heard a work of music absolutely shatter in to pieces like this album at 45:54. I mean it just sounds like hell. Additionally, I don’t think that i’ve ever heard so much pain convincingly in a vocalist’s voice as there is at 57:00 until the end of Stage 6. This is an incredible record! Bravo!!

Turns out that this year my grandma is now having this problems and man, I just cried the entire hour listening to this, the album hits really hard and this shit is just too awful. I don't wish it for anyone. This is a beautiful piece of art and I can't imagine how hard it must have been to make it.

I noticed that 36:33 is sampled from the 4th mvt of "Of Sailors and Whales" by Francis McBeth (pitched one tone down), and Stage 7 features an instrumental arrangement of Eric's Whitacre's "Lux Aurumque" (57:58). Awesome use of some great music!

Just listened to this and holy crap was this album a haunting, heavy, and emotional journey. The ending of track 6 in particular is gonna stick with me for a long time.
This really hit home for me as both of my grandfathers passed away a few years ago with dementia and my grandmother now has it. It makes me worry about my own parents and I hope to God it does not happen to them.

This is a unfathomable work of art. Every shade of sound, every bit of rhythm, every lyric, every single moment perfectly placed, perfectly tuned to the story you’re telling, bringing it to life so vividly, as a perfect translation of all its sadness and horror. This album is nothing short of heartbreaking, and shakes me to my core. I struggle listening to stage 5 and 6 in particular, because they are too real. But that just speaks to the level of art you have created here. You have undoubtedly been touched by the muse. 10/10 and I only have like five or six albums total that I rate that high

I just stumbled upon this band, and album two nights ago. Man, what an album. It's like if Steven Wilson didn't just produce an Opeth album, but decided to write and perform an album in that style himself. Opeth used to be my favorite band (still love up to Watershed at least), but no other bands have really been able to scratch that itch they left behind. Anciients comes somewhat close, but they have more of a Baroness bend to them (check them out if you haven't heard of them).
Anyway, I've been listening to this album nonstop since finding it. Hopefully Chris decides that he wants to tackle another dark theme, and write an album about it. As long as it doesn't leave him in a bad head space of course. 🙂

oPetH WanNabE mUch - oooo good one bro
      Look Roosterhooves,
      1. Opeth hasn't sounded anything like this in 12 years so even if Reticent was a ripoff (which they aren't) I say it's high time we had a successor to the throne.
      2. You clearly didn't listen to the whole album which makes sense because then it is harder to be a dismissive asshole. You going to try to tell me that Reticent's 12 minute black metal epic The Nightmare sounds anything like something off Ghost Reveries?
      3. Opeth NEVER wrote an album with a concept this intense or meaningful. The Reticent's last album was the deepest dive into different perspectives on suicide I've heard in metal or any other genre and this one does the exact same thing for Alzheimer's.
There's a million million bands out there so who gives a shit who sounds like who? No one is original not even Opeth. Is the music good? Does it actually mean something? Stop dogging one of the only bands I've seen in recent years trying to actually say something with their music.
      tl;dr - stfu
