The "CBS Evening News" premiered as a half-hour broadcast on Sept. 2, 1963. Check local listings for CBS Evening News broadcast times.
The Mexican man was talking about the abuse that was happening in the school system. He didn’t say anything about the country. Ironically, he did the most American thing you could do. He didn’t tell the white guy to leave or to shut up. In fact, He handed the mic to him to explain himself. Much respect to how he handled the situation!
He actually started laughing afterwards, which is pretty amazing to think about. Whether it's a coping mechanism he developed - surely he's experienced racism directly before - or if that's all he could think to do to try and not want to be seen as "playing the victim" even if, obviously, he was a victim in that moment.

That Mexican man is a bigot because he refused to even consider moving to Brazil, Nigeria, India, the Philippines, Algeria, or all of these other great nations because the people are too dark skinned or he doesn't like their religion, or some other racist reason! What the hell is wrong with that racist!!? Also, Mexico is richer than 150 other countries, yet they refuse to allow all of those beautiful and talented people to move there for a better life.

European groups were vastly underdeveloped for thousands of years compared to their contemporaries. Why is it so hard to accept that you didn't "enlighten" the rest of the world? No shade to taco bell, it's fine for a quick snack and they do have the rare amazing item. But it can't hold a candle to fresh steamed tamales, a bowl of chicken pozole, or some (extremely messy and oh so worth it) elote. I have been extremely blessed to grow up in a smaller town in the south with a mix of most every culture's food you can imagine. There's Mrs. Betty who's 80 and makes the most amazing chinese food with her husband in a renovated train caboose and sells out before noon, the Lao family who make Muu Bing and sticky rice, the greek orthodox church sells spanakopita and souvlaki, the polish family who own the ice cream shop expanded into a restaurant and European grocery, the Cuban restaurant makes the most AMAZING maduros and black beans, the _actually_ japanese restaurant that serves my favorite Gyudon, the viet restaurant with huge steaming bowls of Pho, among many, many others.
My only complaint is that we have no indian restaurant within half an hour.
Don't get me wrong, southern food can be damn good. Blistered okra and baby back ribs are fantastic, but variety is quite literally the spice of life. Building relationships with the people in my community, learning how to cook so many different ways, learning about traditions and history and seeing so many different perspectives has given me a huge appreciation for how much life and growth you can have when you aren't stuck in a cultural bubble.

I think there was a sweet spot of low racism in the 90's and early 2000's because there weren't as many minorities, and the few of us present couldn't afford to mingle in white areas. That's changing as the middle class is shrinking, forcing people to coexist with all different races.
Kids don't mean the racist stuff they say half the time; they just don't have anyone at home teaching them otherwise.

@@IDontGravity I grew up in a small town and went to a small school, and it wasn't too bad. Some racism, but not as much as you'd think. Our grade might've had 6 minorities total out of 130 in our graduating class.
To me it seems the racism occurs when there is a bigger mix of races in one place. People start to feel uneasy around each other.

Except its not racist at all. If an Irish immigrant in the 19th century complained about something like this, he would likely have been told the exact same thing. That is despite the fact he would have been the same race. You can tell that this comment is not racist on face value; the information content of what he said does not contain any criticism of any specific race of people. The issue isn't racism; it's that Americans are increasingly sick and tired of being second class citizens in their own country. Why is it that recent immigrants from Mexico and Central America get to claim some sort of status as oppressed "people of color" and demand institutional power over actual American citizens whose ancestors fought, bled and died for this country?
The ridiculous gasps and "That's racist!" shouts of the people in the room are completely pathetic and childish. We are supposed to be citizens of a democratic republic with a right to free speech. The fact that one simple comment was able to derail an entire group meeting and send people into a frenzy shows just how week and tenuous our democracy has become. The fact that rich people and their corporate and financial entities constantly promulgate and benefit from mass immigration and political correctness casts much deserved suspicion on this sad attempt to turn someone expressing a legitimate political opinion at a democratic local school meeting into a situation where this person is now being subjected to a disgusting inquisition led by national news media. It's a disgrace to our democracy.

I lived outside of Trenton in a very nice primarily Black neighborhood. I'm not White, but there were some living there, and it was the most peaceful place I ever lived. Black people are really really nice.
