I agree that it's a bit weird to have Boba tea and the thrift store together. I make my lot look like two different stores. I also sometimes add a yoga studio as well so it looks like a real multi-business lot (especially since the lots are so big!).

That's a great idea! I think I'll download this lot and add another level at the top with a "book store"/reading nook to make this look more like a multi-business lot that fits into Britechester

    • @az25blue

@@chavi- That's a great idea! And if you have Get Together you can make a book club. Even if your sims aren't in the club, if you visit the lot the book club will meet automatically. That's another way to make the lots feel more lively.

@@az25blue Book club sounds amazing, thanks for the suggestion! I haven't played much with the Club System beyond joining the default clubs but it would definitely be great to have Sims around doing club activities like reading instead of randomly wandering around the lot.

    • @DoveJS
      @DoveJS 2 года назад +7

The Get Together Club system surely has some option that's similar already, especially if they remembered cross-compatibility this time but you might have to settle for telling jokes and adding a mic anyway if they didn't add poetry as a skill or an actual activity. Honestly, the Club system is so much better than the NAPs, it's stupidly criminal and THOSE need a refresh. :(

I'm loving how you're playing with color as Reginald transitions to college! You've said yourself over the years you tend to stick to black and white, and the high school campus was purposefully drab - so now all the color in the dorm and this lot is really bringing vibrancy to the new stage of Reginald's life. And it'd be neat to see him explore a Pride event in college as well.

It is odd the way they force you to have both the thrift store and bobba tea. But i hope they expand on this feature. It needs to be toggled on and off and we should be able to choose any community lot type or any lot type for that. Hopefully this is a sign that they are working on that for the future.

Gosh, I seriously want to be able to build a "mall" for my world, with a cafe, restaurant, and a store combined in a lot. In Sims 2 you could just build a community lot like that and all the stores would work separately and functional, so I really miss making lots with multiple functionality on them. I think I want to do something like this in mine. But I'm still going to make the Bubble Tea seperate in the sense of like a Target or Sam's. You have the store itself and off to the side you have the food court where you sit and eat pizza or soft pretzels. This way, Sims--hopefully--will be encouraged to sit at the tables rather than wandering around the place clogging up the foot traffic.

I like that the thrifting and boba together. I don’t really use cafes/restaurants bc ordering can be slow. Having another activity on the lot is very fun and makes it easy to make the interior shop feel full. Some of the shops feel very sparse since there are only so many clothing racks or toys you can add before things look repetitive.

I think for the lot type to make sense you have to approach it from a very small town lens where it’s more common to jam a bunch of things into one store. As others have commented (and something I've been planning on doing too), doing two separate shops with the respective necessary items for the boba tea and the thrift store stuff on the same lot could be an option for you to try on a future build of this lot type. I've done that a few times in the past as faux-shops to have a row of 3-4 shops on one lot - for one it's unusual these days for a shop to be standing completely separate from others, they are usually part of a commercial "block", and it also helps with the scale of the buildings imo, as even the small lots often feel far too big to be one shop all on their own.
Love what you did with the place yet again though, you've been killing it with these builds lately, it's awesome to see you so inspired to build again!!

In my hometown we had small strip malls with random stores and pubs. I could imagine a thrift store, karaoke bar/pub, bubble tea, weird creepy massage studio, etc... Then a random McDonald's, Tim Hortons, or pizza place not attached but placed in the corner of the lot. :P
I wonder if you can have a lot with functional things of different lot types. Someone mentioned a toggle switch and I think that'd be so cool to just pick what you want.

I think it looks great and it DOES fit because there's castle ruins on the background. I get the vibe that maybe it was previously a newer military support building of some kind (like a mess hall) that was no longer used and got renovated and re-purposed. Castles and forts were often built and re-built on the same spots over and over because the locations were prime for defence.

My university (ACU McAuley Brisbane) is a beautiful campus of old stone buildings, it used to be a seminary, when I was there they were building a MASSIVE structure, and they covered the entire front-facing side with reflective glass so that it reflected the historical architecture and it was such a fun idea. I don't think that's plausible or even sensible in the sims but that's an idea for anyone who wants to build a lot in a town that is kinda themed.

I don't mind the double purpose lot, I just wish it was something you could choose. Like "Main lot type" + "Secondary lot type", so you could do a pool and bar or nightclub, library and café, thrift and retail, bar and restaurant, or weirder combos.
Like café and spa may seem strange, but in Paris, at La grande Mosquée, you can go to the hammam and then go and sit for pastries and tea. We did that for a friend's wedding it was very nice.
You could also do retail and restaurant, park and musem... so many possibilities.
I know you can already fake them but having them officially would mean more efficient NPC workers and lot traits.

For Britechester it really depends - the Foxbury campus is inspired by Stanford and MIT and Britechester is inspired by Oxford University in England. So I think Britechester campus and the areas of Britechester in the middle are meant to be inspired by Oxford and the surrounding areas and such.

I renovated the commons of lilsimsie too. I wanted a gym and more science stuff. My rags to riches guy pretty much lived there.

A lot of places in Sweden have cafes with triftstore in it :) I know one place particularly that has a stage for like open nights; anyone can go up on the stage to pull a joke or poetry. It's pretty cosy, not gonna lie

They also have that mic thing there which is a bit out of place, so I think I can see making a sort of town house type shops (bubble tea and thrift store) next to each other, but then a speakeasy underneath the 2 lots. That might seem nice.

Should probably add a bin for all the boba cups

In the next bubble/thrift build how about you do a side by side shared building that way Sims can pick which "store" to go in.

    This turned out very pretty.
Honestly, I will probably put the boba Shop on the roof, Like you have a thrift store and up on the roof it's rooftop T shop and and they are events there... Just an idea I mean it's such a nice big square

Sim Science: maybe test if the roof glitch is solved by keeping the original interior walls? It might not matter, I'm just wondering if maybe removing them confuses the game... I've never tried putting the curved decks together in a circle before so even though it works the same, I'd have no idea how lol. But it's possible it's just the curve cut-out always acting up since I don't think they intended for us to make Pringles Cans of Shame (or knew we would but weren't concerned because they couldn't change how it worked anyway.)
Edit: Forgot to add but I love this lot regardless! You and Ms. Gryphi have both built such lovely Thrift/Tea lots lol
