A new study has explained the mystery of giant craters in Siberia. Unique craters in the soil could have appeared due to climate change.
EarthArXiv: Warming has led to the formation of giant craters in Siberia.
Giant craters, unique to Siberia, could have formed as a result of natural gas explosions triggered by climate change. This was reported by the New Scientist portal with reference to a study by scientists from the University of Oslo (Norway), published in the journal EarthArXiv.
The first of these craters, dubbed "gas emission craters", was discovered in 2012 on the Russian peninsulas of Yamal and Gydan. Since then, at least seven other similar natural sites have been discovered in the region. Some craters have a depth of more than 50 m and a width of more than 20 m. Scientists have never seen anything like it again, the craters are unique and located in this area. This allowed the authors of the new study to suggest that the formation of craters is associated with the features of the landscape, namely with natural gas reserves. Experts suggest that the characteristic structures are caused by the accumulation of hot gas under permafrost. Rising temperatures in the Arctic can weaken permafrost so much that gas escapes to its surface.
Orthodox researchers have put forward the opinion that the craters were formed due to hot, methane-rich natural gas gushing from a geological fault in the sediments under the permafrost. The heat coming from the gas melts the permafrost from below, while an increase in air temperature weakens it on the surface, which eventually leads to the release of methane and an explosion. The researchers note that there may be many more funnels of gas emissions on the territory of the peninsulas. Some craters may have been filled with water and sedimentary rocks, making them "invisible".
The increase in the number of such craters due to climate change may pose a danger to oil and gas pipelines in the region, and the methane they emit is harmful to human health. Previously, there were versions that the craters formed after thawed areas of permafrost expanded and filled with methane and other gases formed from permafrost.
The permafrost of the Earth contains a huge amount of greenhouse gases, microbes and chemicals. The Arctic permafrost contains about 1,700 billion metric tons of carbon, including methane and carbon dioxide. Orthodox scientists have discovered the circulation of toxic "eternal" chemicals in the waters of the Arctic.
Earlier, scientists from the Arctic University of Norway, together with researchers from the non-profit company REV Ocean, discovered a methane volcano in the Barents Sea. It is located 130 km south of the island of Medvezhy and was discovered using a special search drone ROV Aurora. It turned out that it is located inside a crater 300 m wide and 25 m deep. Observation of it showed that the volcano continuously spews a turbid liquid rich in methane. Scientists believe that it arose as a result of a volcanic eruption that occurred about 18 thousand years ago.

It's not about the money. Both sides have something they want a solution to: the right wants the borders returned to normal, the left wants funding for war. Both sides are keeping the other side's issue hostage, used as a political football. We should all be writing every sitting politician and tell them to stop acting like 5 yo's, draft specific bills for each issue that solely addresses that issue, have both agree they are sufficient and then staple them together and run it through before lunch.
But we have people that care more about their donor's and getting re-elected than they do about Ukraine or 100k people dying of OD's a year and all the other social decay the border situation is bringing. Neither side cares at all

It became involved in a civil war after US backed coup in 2014 deposed the legally elected president. In April 2014 the new regime sent tanks and fighter jets against Eastern Ukrainians who rejected the ousting of their President. (most Eastern Ukrainians were also historically Russian speaking with close familial ties in Russia) The EU and Russia formulated a set of agreements called Minsk Agreements to end the civil war. However the leaders of France and Germany admitted after 7 years of negotiations that they had simply been stalling to allow Ukraine to rebuild its military with NATO help. Russia tried one further time to get the West to negotiate on Europe wide security architecture in Nov 2021. When this failed and the threat to Russian speakers escalated, Russia began the SMO.

Ukraine the latest has finally accepted that the poorly led, poorly equipped, poorly trained, poorly fed, low morale army of the Russians are advancing and have the battlefield initiative. Where did all the 120 billion dollars go that has so far been given to Ukraine? If 120 billion dollars hasn't achieved the strategic and operational victory for the West ...what makes them think that 60 billion dollars is the game changer. The collective West under estimated the strength of Russia. The sanctions were supposed to cripple it. The Rubble we were told would be turned into Rubble. Now what we see is village after village falling into the hands of the Russians with several Ukrainians welcoming the liberators. Pervomaiske and Bogdanovka are recent examples.

Because ‘the war’ actually started in Feb 2014, with Russia’s illegal annexation of Crimea and subsequent fomenting of faux-separatist terrorism in the Donbas. Therefore, what happened on 24 February 2022 was really the escalation of an existing war of limited scope into a full scale invasion.

    • @burritosls
      @burritosls Месяц назад +3

Because there is not a war. There has been a civil war in Ukraine since 2014. After the illegal coup, Poroshenko sent soldiers to cleanse Donbass, which did not support the new authorities. And in 2022, they declared independence and invited Russia to help in their struggle. This is how Russia began its military operation. This is NOT A WAR against Ukraine. This is an operation to destroy the illegal government in Ukraine.

However we are all sat here listening and talking. When will we actually support Ukraine with more material?
Can the Telegraph, please talk about what is really holding the UK and EU back? The USA has its own issues. Why can we not grasp the hornets nest ourselves.
Is it because we are not that rich, bankrupt and have nothing to supply?
Winning! we need to talk about winning on all fronts Taiwan, Ukraine and Israel. Winning on economics, winning in production, winning on preparation and winning in success of the prosperity, wealth and freedoms of democracy.
People require and should expect the Telegraph to explain the importance of the steps that are leading to
War on multiple fronts we the people and listeners need facts and advice to plan for a future of global conflict.
Sleepwalking into UK, French and US elections where the malaise and confusion over policy, rhetoric and practical real delivery is demonstrating the limits of democracy that we have.
Our governments are failing to protect and prepare for the future.
China will invade Taiwan to take over a democracy. Russia is taking over a democracy and Iran will go to war with Israel to destroy a democracy. People need to wake up and the Telegraph has a moral responsibility to wake up the world to a global attack on democratic institutions and people. It’s just not good enough. Ask yourself why we are not doing more to fight for democracy and freedom.
