Oh, Cici, you're killing me!! I had talked myself out of a pretty sweet deal on a cherry one... then heard your ambient journey! So utterly refreshing to hear something so tender and ethereal coming from a bass "demo". Hope the seller calls me back!! I bless and (just a little) curse you! ✌️
I watched this video about 5 hours ago after watching the entire thing u went down to my nearest guitar shop and got one of these for my birthday I’ve allways loved how sg styles guitars look and this one is fantastic it’s now sitting in my room in its box so I can open it in 11 days time on my birthday Thank u for making this vid 🙂
I have an EB3 it’s modded could not be happier. I changed the bridge to a Babicz FCH 3PT Replaced the veritone switch with a 3 way switch craft toggle switch and for the neck dive I use a 4.5 inch Levy padded leather strap. I changed the neck pickup with a Artec alnico mudbucker (caution - this will shake the drywall off the studs) I don’t have all the gear you have but u did a fantastic job dispelling the bad reputation this axe gets from bass snobs) Thank you for highlighting the tones inherent in this monster.
That tune you played could be in a movie! Did you just come up with that,? Sounded beautiful!!! Im thinking of something like a love story where someone dies and its the funeral where they are playing a remember me type of video and that music in the background. That kind of movie vibe. Dark sad but beautiful
Beautiful playing! Thank you for posting this. I bought one of these used super cheap not long ago. You've opened up my ears to the possibilities of that mini humbucker.
Wow! This ambient jam reminded me of one of my old bands when we would jam into those dreamy landscapes moment 🌙🌌 The flood thing sucks... hope you are well & that you have better outcome in the futur! Keep on rocking! 🤘🎸⚡🔥
Greetings Ms. Cici, I too agree 100% on the Epiphone EB-3 (SG) which is an awesome workhorse of a bass with it's amazing aesthetics. I own the Epiphone EB-0 slim short-scale bolt-on neck with it's single mudbucker/sidewinder neck pickup which has an enormous classic thunderous sound of the '60s & '70s era, that I happen to cherish very much and it's also my favorite all time electric bass guitar as well! Thank you so much for this Epiphone bass guitar presentation. Cheers on your favorite bass guitar!!! 🤘😀👍
I was able to pickup one of these beauties early May 2024 , what an awesome bass. I have always been a Gibson/ Epiphone fan, my first real bass was a. 335 style semi hollow episode and my gosh it was alot to handle, that was in 1975. 1962 Gibson Ripper bass was next and it was Frettess , and what an education that was. I just acquired this EB 3 Epiphone and with some serious setup I have it growling and can't seem to put it down. More later
EB3 was my first good real bass guitar. I had a couple cheap guitars before that. EB3 has a great sound, feels like a dream too. I just couldnt deal with the neck dive. So after a year i moved on to a Ric4001. You do cool stuff Cici. Keep playing! I hope your house is ok!
Great video, the music matched the weather perfectly. I’m sorry and the flooding. Hopefully nothing got damaged. My first bass was a eb-0. I never got on with it mainly because I had no idea what a setup was. Lol. I’ve since gotten a epiphone eb-3 made in Japan. It’s short scale with the varitone selector(neck, bridge, both, and neck with a capacitor) and a beefy neck. They are great basses and don’t deserve the hate. I hope you enjoy yours for years to come and it inspires you.
Played one for the first time plugged in at the music shop today and was very pleasantly surprised by the ease and comfort playing, the neck especially felt very slender and easy to grip even compared to my own bass which I’m used to
I've not seen a bee or wasp this year where I live. No moths , no butterflies, no hoverflys, no Swifts, fewer sparrows, no young Starlings... Great bass the EB. Great demo, music goes with the times we are in Good luck and peace to everyone
Thx a lot for that great video! Since the last two years i thought about switching one of my basses for the EB3. You showed me how versitile that bass is :D Thx a lot!
I really liked this demo and you've sold me on getting one. I live in a 100 year old house too. Our wires are old I bought a power cell to power my equipment. We flood all the time, so my thoughts are with you. Awesome as always Cici!✌️
I got the cherry coloured one about 5 years ago, it’s a great bass, I love the mudbucker pickup! There is something about the SG shape that takes me back to what I fell in love with as a teenager when I got my first epiphone sg.
I now have an Epiphone SG guitar which is so light by comparison! I play my guitar thru a Peavey 150watt Bass amp + a Boss DS1 distortion pedal... Amazing sound, sooo heavy
I was never a fan of this bass for many reasons. But a year ago I came across a "gently used" one at a local Guitar Center and the mini humbucker gave me a new appreciation for its unique sound. Anyways, I decided to mod one of my Squire Jazz basses and placed one (mini humbucker) in the neck position. This pickup paired with a single coil jazz pickup and an active 2 band eq is just amazing. Even in a passive build, this mini humbucker sounds incredible with a single coil jazz pickup.
Ahh wow, thank you so much James! :) I do love Tool as you may know haha! It wasn’t intentionally Tool-esque but it’s funny how things make their way into your playing regardless
Wonderul music and review! I have one and since I bought it many years ago I like it but something didn’t really feel good on the sound, kindy weak and hollow despite the so call mudbucker, for many years I thought it wasn’t my thing and wanted to get rid off, recently I decided to check what was wrong and found that the so call mudbucker measures 1.2k while the bridge mini humbucker measures 6,5 K something was absolutely wrong in here so I order a cheap Arctec mudbucker that measures 30k, what a difference after I switched this to the super weak stock crappy one, now it’s sound massive with deep solid lows and when combined with the stock bridge it sound superb, bringing clarity and brightness to the massive mudbucker, I thought something was wrong with the stock so I dismounted and checked the coils, it was 600 something ohms each coil and everything well connected so was an intentional super weak pickup from factory, I trow it as it cannot even be sell this terrible sounding pickup, just a tip from my experience on this bass to improve an already great bass that now It’s a keeper, cheers
It certainly looks like a really nice bass, you never fail to impress me with your beautiful music 🎵 I really hope that things are not too bad from the freak weather conditions; it’s been a right pain just of late!
Great music for a rainy day.. Maybe the weather gods thought they were answering a prayer. Sorry you had to deal with that! I had a Gibson EB-3 in '79. I'd been playing a year and had 2 pawn shop nameless basses before. I only kept it for a year because my snob jazz band director didn't like the mud and just kept bitching about it. I replaced it with a '79 Music Man Sabre, but that was only good enough to shut him up. I loved both, but he was die-hard Fender. Of course when I found out that Music Man was Leo's new company, his opinion was noticeably more positive. Anyway, a couple of years ago I started watching Reverb for a vintage EB-3 in decent shape with a halfway decent price. So far those requirements have proven mutually exclusive. So just last week I bought the Epiphone, (cherry). You were right about everything. A clear mudbucker?. Who new? Decent weight. The worst neck diver I've ever owned, but it's a comfortable shape and light enough to hold up that it doesn't wear my fretting hand out. And of course several tonal options. I put on Ernie Ball Cobalts and wow! Never had a bass sound quite like it. I'm in love for about the 30th time in 45 years!
Great bass. Thanks for showing it. Would you put flatwound strings. Or just keep the regular roundwound strings. What would be the best strings for this particular bass sound which is great. Thanks again.
I bought that EXACT BASS in 2016! But mine had a whitish/pearl pick guard and mine was so heavy when i got home and put my strap to it & stood up to play.... The strap broke luckily i wasable to catch it b4 it hit the floor
This was my first good bass I bought, due to loving Mike Watt and one I will never consider parting with. I have several basses I like to play more, but I think this is probably the most versatile one I own.
I really like my '68 EB-3. I modded it with Dark Star pickups and an Alembic bridge, so it's got a different vibe going on, but it's great to play and sounds very cool. Think Phil Lesh, late '69-'71.
@@CiciVonStrangelove I did! I slapped some Labella Low Tension flats on it and the thing really came alive! I don't find myself using the bridge pickup soloed much, but in conjunction with the neck pickup it can get some really cool sounds. Do you still use yours?
Hiya. Just wandered across your site 😂 lovely playing from a true artist well done. I own a number of guitars and basses Inc SG EB0. EB3 and an EB3 shorty custom all epi and they are wonderful instruments. Well done for getting over your preconceptions 😂
My goodness this is so inspiring! As a new bass player I have been trying to find more solo ways of creative expression like this. It would be really cool if you could break down how you accomplish these sounds for us newbs. Is it an octave pedal? Does the bass itself play a huge role in the sound? Like could you get similar sounds using non humbuckers?
I had one of those in cherry. Great basses, specially for the price. You can counteract the neck diving simply by wearing one of those leather straps that have suede on one side. Solves the problem real cheap real quick. Worked for me at least. Cheers!
I second getting a leather-suede strap to help with neck dive, I have a six-string SG, the neck would annoy the heck out of me. Now it’s my favorite guitar to play
Hey, great video! As an owner of an EB3, I do have a question, though; maybe you - or anyone else here - can advise :) While I absolutely love the neck pickup, as it seems to have just all the low end in the world, the bridge pickup sounds almost "meatless" and more guitar-like, in terms of having virtually no low end, at least compared to how the neck pickup sounds. Is that just a feature and I simply need to EQ the bridge pickup differently, when solo'ed, - or is that an issue and I need to have the bass's wiring checked?

Or at least have fun with the whole thing anyway.
i have the short scale epiphone version shoved in an Artec mudbucker i owned a 79s EB3 but the short scale one is great no neck dive.i love andy fraser playing mr big at the isle of wight festival great tone!
Lovely sounding bass Cici, great on the atmospheric piece for sure. Hope the flood didn't ruin anything in the house too much All the best to you. Alex
I've bought a few sets of strings that don't work with the bridge with how far the windings go up... and I'd suggest a super wide strap and a good chiropractor
Beautiful playing. I have fallen in love with these and the gibson counterparts. I have a question: Is the bridge as bad as everyone says? Also read things about the low E being not present, i assume, as far as output. Most of the video reviews sound great, especially yours. Any insight on the overall quality would be greatly appreciated. Have a blessed day.
Thank you so much, I really appreciate that :) Really not sure what other people are hearing (or not hearing) with the low E, in my experience this is one of the most well balanced guitars I’ve heard, one of my favourite guitar sounds ever. Nothing wrong with the bridge either in my experience. I do think people tend to try and find problems with them because they’re Epiphones and they want to justify the price of the Gibson versions. Having tried both, and I say this as someone who is impartial on the Epiphone and Gibson debate, this one sounds, looks, and feels better to play than the Gibson ones I’ve tried. Neither are bad guitars but this one sounds better, has a much nicer neck, and the specs (and paint job) are overall more accurate to Adam’s guitar - even with Adam Jones aside, it’s just a fantastic guitar in every way and I’m still yet to find a problem with it personally :) Thanks again!
My first bass was a Gibson 1966 EB-0, still have it and just recently I bought 2018 Epiphone SG bass and not really giving with it. Love the way it plays and the way it looks but I wish they made one like the old Gibson EB-3 with the Vartone switch. The mudbucker in the neck is useless and the volume knobs have very little control. It's a beautiful bass it's in mint shape I'm going to do some electronic work on it like swap out the Humbucker for a Dimarzio one. Nice playing.
Couldn’t agree more with your comments about Andy Fraser. Free & Jethro Tull were two of my first favourite bands going around in the late 60s, early 70s . Fraser’s bass playing was nothing short of incredible, just listen to the album version of Mr Big for his bass solo. It’s still, more than 50 years after I first heard it, my favourite bass solo. I’ve always had a liking for good bass players, (explains why I follow you on RUclips). Fraser & Cornick were the first bass players to highlight the instrument for me. Love the playing the thunder worked really well with it. ❤
Very nice video. I must admit, It makes me want to buy an EB3 ... ;-) Water damage ... what a drag ... All the best and luck regarding the 4-6 months repair works.
Thank you so much Keith :) Sadly the whole downstairs of the house will need to spend the next 4-6+ months being completely rebuilt, but thankfully we can stay on site in the garden :)
Hi Queenie greetings from New Mexico USA 🇺🇸, sorry to hear about floods hope u all are 👍 that is a beautiful bass super vintage looking. Thanks for sharing ❤👋🎸🎛🌹
Spooky!!! I was just looking at one on Reverb yesterday as I also love Andy Frasier and thought, why don't I have one of these in my life? I hope you manage to dry out your home soon Cici......
Ahh no way! Awesome :) Hope you enjoy it if you do end up getting one! And thanks so much, going to be a long process but there are some silver linings :)
Oh no Cici I'm so sorry about your house I hope the flood didn't do too much damage. Best wishes for you. Great bass solo it sounded great and I hope you're equipment is good.
I recently bought an SG bass and really do enjoy the tone. Just need to watch bass levels on the amp, and if you get bass reverb in the room you're playing in it can be very muddy sounding. Hope all is well at home Cici.
I’ve been thinking of getting a bass and loved this video! Hope the water damage wasn’t too bad. I’d love to hear some adventure time songs on this bass!
It's funny. I've always loved the looks of the SG Basses, both the EB0 and the EB3.Of course, I' a big Jack Bruce fan, and the Polish bassist, Kinga Glyk also plays one, and I think it sounds amazing. However, I was just not very excited about the thought of the Epiphone model. I have only reviews to go on, but all I have ever heard in reviews and from friends is that the Epiphone EB3 was a bit lifeless and dull sounding compared to the Gibson EB. So it's nice to hear your praises of the Epi. The price certainly makes it attractive. Thanks for the demo!
I own an Eb3 bass and i always felt that they were really underrated in the internet, and it's great seeing you playing it so good
Definitely!! Thank you so much :)

Great jam! 👍 great instrument! 👍 (bad weather!!!!!!! ). What's the color of hail hitting on the windows - and ambient bass?
Jack Bruce playing an SG with fuzz made me fall in love with the EB-3.

Feeling some lovely John Martyn "Small Hours" vibes in your jamming style. Beautiful
Can't wait to see you include that piece in your live sets with the Trio.
That would be fun! :)
Meu deus, que melodia linda cara....... meus parabéns Cici
I must admit, It makes me want to buy an EB3 ... ;-)
Water damage ... what a drag ... All the best and luck regarding the 4-6 months repair works.
Where are you located? May I ask
Beautiful melody, your such a gem. Hopefully no water damage to your home.
Thank you so much Keith :) Sadly the whole downstairs of the house will need to spend the next 4-6+ months being completely rebuilt, but thankfully we can stay on site in the garden :)
Sorry to hear about the flooding.
Thank you so much!!
Hope you’re safe! Got the same issue with this bass so I came for the jam and enjoyed it :) plus next time I see an EB3 I’ll probably pick it up.
It's a great looking bass.
What expression pedal are you using during the demo? Im looking for a wah-style pedal for my own bass.
It’s a 90s Morley Wah, which doubles as a volume pedal when the wah is off :)
Awesome sounding axe. Makes me think of Jack Bruce. Cheers
Thanks! 🙂😎
Hi Queenie greetings from New Mexico USA 🇺🇸, sorry to hear about floods hope u all are 👍 that is a beautiful bass super vintage looking. Thanks for sharing ❤👋🎸🎛🌹
All some bass Cici Powell text from archcilla from Illinois USA
Lets hope the Silver linings are long and plentiful and you can get back to some sort of normal sometime very soon.....
Wow beautiful!
I’m so sorry about your basement ): is your equipment okay ??
Didn't the late, great Jack Bruce also play one of those?
this video has convinced me to buy one!!!!
Ahh amazing!! Enjoy :) thanks so much for taking the time!
Thanks for the demo!
you did the bass justice Cici, I love my 65 EB0. If only I could do it justice lol. cheers!
Jack Bruce , Andy Fraser ❤❤
That harmony reminds me Kimarie's Sky - Wade. Check it, i think you'll love it! Great review and playing!
Great video! Hopet he flood wasn't to bad and, you are ok! (and all your gear is ok!)
Sorry to hear about the flooding :( must be cool living in such an old house though lol
Sounds kinda like cliff burtons bass tone
You've inspired me to get the Vintage VS4. Basically the same but short scale and slightly offset body. 😺✨
@@Some_Cat_ Ahh amazing!! Enjoy :) thanks so much!
