Wanted to compliment you on your no-nonsense review of the Epiphone EB-3. I am a professional bassist of an embarrassing age (been playing since 1965), and I just wanted a good overview of the instrument. You provided a complete tour of the instrument, during which you answered every question I could have had. Thank you! Most refreshing!
Could you teach me a thing or two lain? I’m a upcoming bassist from Michigan. my influence come from the Cream/Woodstock era with deep blues influences of course but I really want to take the next step.
All I can tell you is that, having since bought the EB-3, I have not played a bass that feels better to me. The only thing I would change is the total lack of ability to customize the instrument. No change of pickups, electronics, or bridge is presently possible. Nothing wrong with what's there, but a couple Bartolinis and a Starz bridge would greatly increase it's flexibility. The case is a head-scratcher for me. It's a very nice case, but the handle placement is uncomfortable, and it has zero stability when set on the ground. Hope this proves of some value!
@@kodencotter177 Hi, Koden - The best advice I can give is based on my personal experience: 1. Learn to read bass clef 2. Play with as many people as possible 3. Learn to play as many styles of music as possible 4. Know your instrument, what it can and can't do, as well as your limitations on any given instrument.
Very interesting to consider that the Gibson SG bass is short scale length while only the Epiphone is full length. Some people may prefer that (I would a s a lanky, long-limbed metal player). So there's a real unique reason that could make the Epiphone both a better choice and more affordable for some.
I was thinking of picking one of these up but I couldn't find one in my town to demo, I always love the epiphone design and I'm so glad it sounds as good as I hoped it did. I'd still prefer a chance to demo one tho
I have one from 2008. It doesn't have the best balance, but it won't dive with a big strap. What bothers me is the weight of this beast, after about 2h of playing it sitting down my leg starts killing me :P
...but they changed the scale length?! Why?! That makes it definitely `not and EB3. I mean you expect different pickups, bridge, tuners ... but its a different guitar underneath all that! Not saying its not a great bass, but the short scale is SUCH a huge aspect of the EB3
An ok bass, but not a GREAT bass by any stretch of the imagination. Long scale makes the neck too flimsy, it is weak made from low quality off cuts, making it prone to uneven torsion due to the big difference in tensions between the bass and 'treble' strings. If you buy this bass, be PREPARED to do a lot of work on the neck, and look at replacing that bridge pick up as it is very weak, and sounds like a tuned down guitar! The 3 point bridge is NOT all that great either! Another tip, MOVE the back pick up at least 1 width AWAY from the bridge, the tonal improvement is enormous and will get closer to classic Ripper and P bass territory!
DMSProduktions yea the bridge pickup is WORTHLESS. It’s a wacky fumpy bass. Need to do a lot of eq, different strings, different pickup, etc before it sounds actually “good” that being said it looks cool as hell. With minor work can sound great. If anyone buys this it’s for looks not sound. This bass is FUMPY as hell. I like it though.
The Epiphone is simply junk compared to the Gibson Eb3.It sounds weak in the low register compared to the Gibson classics of the sixties.I have own both a Gibson Eb0 and a Gibson Eb3 1960s models and the sound is so different.Rich clear lows and uniquely full mid and high range. When it is used for chords, everything is beautiful and harmonious,Not "Muddy".Its an ok beginners bass, but that's about it.Save your money and buy real Gibson Eb3.

This was my first good bass back in the 80s. Sold it. But I'm getting a new one. Nothing else sounds like it.
I'm getting one, that's all there is too it
Prepare to do a LOT of work on that neck, and replace the bridge pick up!
@@DMSProduktions Nothing wrong with the neck.
DO you own one? Trust me, the necks are not good on the LS models. The SS might be better.
@@DMSProduktions Regrettably I do own one . What exactly is wrong with the neck ?
SEE my top level post below! It explains why! Trust me, I know! Had to do a lot to make it really playable.
I ordered one ! black color too. I can't wait to have it and record.
I know that I’m answering after quite a long time, but how do you like it? I just ordered it myself recently
I just got a red one 2 weeks ago. I really like it a lot.

You impressed me when you knew what kind of bridge it had
Huh! Why?

“How many more times!”
I'ts has a good balance or the neck is heavy as the Thunderbird?
The neck is heavy, i got one you can see it in my picture
Bought one in cash converters for £70 ,bargain
Way to catch everyone's attention with the good ole standard "I'm not a bass player blues walking bass line"
Does it have neck dive?
Big time. Horrible balance
It won the neck diving championship in 2015

Gibson literally made a long scale version of the eb-3 back in the day. It's called the EB-3L...
Rosewood?
HOW MANY MOOREEE TIMESSS
NECK DIVE!! Beware. This isn’t a review. It’s a sales pitch.
Just get better

Mine ROCKS now! New pick up from Mr. Fabulous and moved forward 1 width! Totally usable tone from the br pick up now! Great for recording now!
Yeah, not getting on with mine.
Put it away in the loft. Using a cheap p bass copy which feels better.
@@robhamblin4008 Hey, whatever works!
Bridge pickup is fine as is in my opinion. Necks vary especially in this cheap price range.

It ISN'T a Gibson! NOT by a long shot!
NO, he is being quite accurate!

What? An Epiphone is not as good as a 1960s Gibson? Unbelievable
