  • According to Ermacora, for the past century we have designed cities mainly for cars and hinged our economies and communities on an unsustainable model of urbanization. By rebuilding the commons and using public facing architecture principles the speaker believes we can transform our neighborhoods collaboratively to become the thriving places they should be.
Thomas Ermacora is a Danish-Italian Urbanist, technologist and futurist focused on social impact design, open source thinking and the circular economy. Since 2002 he has acted as a creative director and strategic consultant for mayors, developers, social landlords, local authorities and curated exhibitions to promote innovations in sustainability. In 2008 he founded the regeneration and acupuncture architecture non-profit Clear Village imagining new commons to restore community wellbeing and build capacity for local resilience of fragile communities. His book 'Recoded City : Co-Creating Urban Futures' (Routledge 2016) is a vibrant and critically acclaimed global survey of the potential of participatory placemaking to empower citizens today. Ermacora’s anchor project now is the Limewharf cultural innovation complex in east London which houses his Machines Room Fablab - the heart of a tech-for-good cluster dubbed the “Maker Mile” part of the MIT Fabcity initiative.

In my city, we are still busy building concrete jungles to catch up with you guys. When we reach there, then we will think about how to make the jungle livable by communities. We don't want to leapfrog anything. We want the whole experience.

Excellent - we will use this as a model for our mini-unit on urban studies and building community in Cleveland, Ohio (USA)

I am very happy that this is a thing. I remember having the same idea some years back, wishing there was some "gyro gearloose" house where we could go or leave our kids or something that the community could use as a place for reflection and "community"! I just hope it to spread FAST.

Yes, definitely as it's a transdisciplinary subject--particularly for those who like to consider issues from different perspectives.

We already have places that are designed EXACTLY for us humans to interact and feel wanted and loved...
    ITS CALLED CHURCH!

      But why?
There's such joy in burning nuns and priests. It fulfills a double function. You get rid of Spiritual Pestilence on the plane of reality and you aid the clergy reach union with their false overlords on their imaginary plane. Killing two birds with one stone.

Direwolf202 Have you heard, God don't believe in atheism!...and honestly I don't go to church much either...Jesus wants us to have a relationship with him, not a religion with him. While he was here, I've been told and read that he was only in churches only 2 or 3 times.
When you can find a good one, they really are a good feeling place to be. Probably in the bigger cities, that's not as easy as smaller towns in rural areas. That's where the good ones still are with people that welcome strangers in more seems.

You forgot all the baggage of guilt and wrongthink you would find there. NO, the church is NOT the place to go.
