In this video, we refurbish this pair of Cobbler Union dress boots. They came into our shop beat up and worn out. After adding new welts, cork, Dainite rubber soles/heels, and applying some much needed conditioner and polish, these boots are ready for another day. Time for another restoration!

Good morning gentlemen. I sent an email back on August 20th and didn’t hear anything back. I know you are busy, I was just wanting to make sure it didn’t go to the junk folder or get inadvertently deleted. Love the videos, and the amazing work!!!
🥰🥰👍
These are my boots and I’m blown away at how incredible these look guys!
I’m a restaurant manager and was sick of going through cheap boots so I bought these as my daily drivers. Unfortunately I didn’t know much about high quality shoes and so I just wore them EVERYDAY at work. I wore these for 4 years straight 5+ days each week. I did have a new heel lift and a patch put on the toe but honestly the cobbler was not interested in putting too much work into them.
I’m so happy Trenton and Heath took these on as a project and I can’t believe how incredible the look.
Thank you so much guys I can’t wait to get these back on the streets this fall.
Just watched this and straight away I hoped you was happy with them
Thank you for sending these in! I bought a pair of Cobbler Union shoes and I've been so excited to see some Cobbler Unions come through this channel. I think this might be the first time!
Thanks again for sending them in to us! We’re happy to know you like them. 👍
Yes, Trent and Heath work magic on shoes and boots. They are the best!
Go get another pair to rotate and your shoes will last three times longer. I lived in Chicago and I know how bad the weather can be on shoes even if you rotate them every day.
I just wanted to thank Trent & Heath for sharing their craft, business, and history with us all. Prior to their videos, I nearly knew nothing about cobblery. A few years later, and their channel has taken off. Just goes to show if you follow your passion, anything is possible. Thank you guys and cheers 🍻
You’re welcome. We really appreciate you watching and are glad to hear the videos have helped.
I’m the product of my raising and both my parents grew up in the time when shoes weren’t coming often, so you had to take care of what you had. That meant polishing shoes and wearing them in such a way as to make them last as long as possible. I’m forever reminding my own kids not to scuff their feet when they walk to avoid unnecessary wear on the soles. Hope your good work is nurtured for a while!
Just so you know… it’s not just guys who watch these videos! I find the whole process fascinating.
Can't say it enough... conditioner and shoe trees are your friends, guys!! Yep, those were thrashed pretty hard. Good save fellers. Love the templates for the Dainites. Very nice touch.
We couldn’t agree more. Thanks for watching!
I suppose it might get frustrating answering the same questions all the time, but I really appreciate the time you guys take to answer them. I feel like I learn a lot watching your videos, which is one of the reasons I enjoy them so much. Thanks, guys, for another great video and resole! 👏😊
So around a year ago, one of your videos came up as a suggested video where you were restoring a pair of redwing prototypes.
Well fast forward a year and I’ve just picked up myself some red wing iron rangers yesterday. I know how to take care of them, what to use on them and how to break them in so they last for as long as possible, and it’s all down to you guys!
Thank you for the endless entertainment of seeing an amazing craft from the UK 🇬🇧 you will be seeing my shoes when they need a re-sole.
That’s great! We hope you enjoy them, and thank you for watching.
My Grandfather was a cobbler in Carraway, AR backing the 50s. I am 72 y.o. and rem er watching work when I was 6 or 7. I was foot racing with a cousin one day in his shop and slammed my head into his sewing machine (the one that stitched on soles) well the machine did not move and I had to have 7 stitches in my head. Still have the scar. I loved watching him work and watching your videos fills me with memories. Thank you.
Cobbler Union boots are on my wish list but with the exchange rate and import duties outside my price range. Breaks my heart to see a great pair of boots like this worn to death, I'm glad you guys were able to help.
Get a jar and put a slit in the lid and start dropping coins and random ones and fives into the jar ..... like every evening, put whatever change you have in your pocket into the jar ..... and those bills from time to time. You'd be surprised how quickly it accumulates ...... also, if you eat out a lot, smoke, buy a six pack from time to time .... instead of indulging in those, put what you would have spent on them into the jar. Again, it is surprising how quickly you will have what you need for those boots. Prioritize .... boots or a movie, boots or carryout (or restaurant eat in), boots or smokes, etc.
@@tinydancer7426 With a 40% import duty on leather shoes and the exchange rate where it is they come out to nearly $1000 of purchasing power parity. They're just not worth that to me no matter how I save the money.
@@MikeVal1369 WOW! That would be a whole lot of pennies in a jar, wouldn't it. This sounds like a job for Superman to fly them in. But, then again, Superman wouldn't bypass customs since he stands for truth, justice and the American way.
@@MikeVal1369 they should be cheaper than that if you're in Europe, as I believe they have a European web store.
I so agree with you about color on the sole. The more color in the world-the better! I also enjoy learning from your videos. Thanks and Well Done!
I have 9 pairs of Cobbler Union shoes ( boots, loafers, and drivers). I honestly think they are the best value in menswear.
Sadly those boots were resoled by a cobbler that made them look so poor. They look like the finished product when new!
Great job restoring these very heavily worn boots!
I work in an office but have had pairs for over 4 years and have yet to resole even one of my pairs. I know it's coming soon, but the quality and durability is quite incredible.
I just love the bright stitchings you have used many times. Color is good. Great work as always!
I'm in AUSTRALIA where it's very very difficult to find a real cobbler.I used to travel interstate to a Spanish cobbler till he died at the rope age of 80.
I only wear leather and Italian if possible,my friends laugh as I love polishing my shoes,iv had some shoes for over 25 years still good as new.I do get new souls when needed.Do you make shoes?Love your show at 76 it's the care and thoughts that go into the repairs.
I'm fascinated to watch y'all repair and restore shoes.
Interesting to see the shoe cream used on pebbled leather. I’ve hesitated to do that because it might “clog” the surface so to speak. Using it sparingly seems like it would avoid that.
Great Job Trent! Thanks for the tip on polishing and conditioning uppers! I use my hand now and can’t go back to a brush! It makes a huge difference! Cheers!
Hey yall!! I love watching your videos!! I have learned alot plus I find it enjoyable and relaxing. Yall are very amazing 👏 👏 A HUGE DENTON TEXAS THANK YOU!! KEEP MAKING THE BEST VIDEOS ON RUclips !!
Thanks again Tex
Awesome video guys. Hopefully, this will help people understand how important it is to take daily care of their shoes and have them repaired in a timely manner!
My White’s boots are in good shape. But if needed to get them back 100%, I’ll send them to these guys. Love your craft.
I've been looking for a new pair of wingtip boots and this video sold me on Cobbler Union! I'll be checking out their stuff, thanks Trenton and Heath :)
Amazing job 👏 went from ready for the garbage 🗑 to ready for a fancy night out 🔥🙌👏
You know, I buy New Balance shoes now but, when I graduated college many decades ago, I went and bought a suit and some nice Florsheim shoes. I've gotten jobs, married my wife etc. and etc. for years but then someone through them away...oh well, sure do miss them.
what a great way to start the morning with a restoration of a pair of shoes or boots.....I never considered repairing any of my shoes but after watching the past year of these videos, there is hope for my future footwear...love your work and craftsmanship guys!!!!
Very nice pair of boots. Still don’t understand why someone would keep wearing them after completely blowing through the sole. Nice work boys, keep the videos coming. There are a lot of us shoe freaks out here watching.
Those look Stunning!!!! I picked blue also : ) Great Job!!!!
Great minds! 😉👍
Blue stitching looks good. will look up gobbled union.
Thank you for all the content you put out, I have learned so much about quality shoes!
You’re welcome. We really appreciate you watching.
@@TrentonHeath Quick question, I bought some used, vintage, Grenson's from a gentleman who hadn't worn them in many years and I was wondering what is the best way to get the soles to mold to my feet (just wearing them, or is there something I can do to moisturize the sole?). Also, is there anything I need to do to help moisturize the heel block? They seem unusually hard (like standing on concrete).
Very nice work, Trent. 🎉
I think this one of best you've have done! they are looking amazing!
That was a lot of work. Great result
Also strongly suggest he use cedar shoe trees after he gets them back. Keeps them in good shape and prevent unsightly toe curling. And I would have gone with orange stitching. Go Vols, Go Big Orange!!
Another one! You guys made those boots look great!
Like the after effect and I'm in Chicago. Glad to know your doing real business.
Thanks!
Great Job Gentlemen, Love your Channel keep up the Great Work!!!
Hi! Could you one day make a video about restoration "inside" shoes? I mean teared, detached, separated part of leather inside a boots. Thanks in advance.
Thank you guys for adding bible references to the description!!!
Awesome job fellers👍👍
They Came Out Great! They Look Perfect. Love the Sole!
They look great.
wasnt thinking blue but turned out cool
Amazing restoration Heath and Trenton!
As always amazing job! Well done!
Thank you!
Great video as always! So, you guys always mention people reaching out to you, but how and where exactly are they doing that? I have a old pair of Biltrite military boots handed down from my grandfather to my dad and now me. Three generations of military guys. I'd love to send them to you guys to work your magic. Many thanks!!
Really like the detail and humour bits in this video nice one guys x
Okay I have to laugh... When it came to the stitching you said elegant on top and party on the bottom and the only thing I could think is oh it's the mullet of sewing! 🤣
It looks great!!!!
Really awesome work there
Gosh, those boots looked very tough to sort out and pull the old bottoms off and still as tough putting the new soles on, good on you guys,
Great job gentlemen. Have a blessed weekend. Thanks for all your hard work. 👍
Another job well done
Wow! Great job!
Y'all ought to try and partner with Oneida Dust Collection and see if they'll provide you with one of there dust collectors.
I take ritual already, great stuff!
Another great job
Nice job as always
I've never seen you put cork on the whole shoe!
What an impressive job !!!
Hey guys, I know sketcher shoes and boots are not high end, but would love to see what's in them.youbshould upgrade a pair.
Beautiful boots
Every time you show a pair of footwear that is beaten to crap, I have to run up to my closet to see if my wife has shipped you a pair of my shoes. 😂. As always T&H, a great video and always a great way to spend 20 mins or so of my time. I really enjoy seeing you rebuild these beasts.
Thanks so much! We really appreciate you watching.
😆😆😆😆😆
This one is the most clear concise video in a long time...accept of course those damn advertisements :) But wow this is nice to see the repair with such a nice OEM look to it.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
Great video, as usual. Thanks. Trent did you sew all the way around the gemming? It looked like you did half way around.
Great work as always. Like the explanation of why you do certain things to the shoes/boots and why sometimes you leave things alone.👍
Another Classic
Impressive job on those, look great!
Thank you!
You guys are artists. I don’t know how you guys see the final product before you even start. I am 100% new to fine shoes and I just found Thursday Captains in black and I would like to get the metal plate on the toe of the boots. They are brand new. How long would it take for you guys to add the toe plate and send it back to me in 21030? Thanks in advance!
I hope we get a men dress shoe restoration 💯😎
Cool video, I think I will check out Cobbler Union boots.
Awesome job as always love when you add some color. Was hoping for those colored soles you got in awhile ago LOL 😆
Thanks! I don’t think the owner wanted to go too crazy on these. 😉
It would be nice to see a collaboration with Steve from "Bedo's Leatherworks", he's an incredible leather crafstman. Both your channels are my favorite!
What is the advantage of the heated cork product rather than sheet cork?
Great video, as usual. Just wondering how much does having this done cost?
Nice looking boot!
Good job as always!
Great job, they look fantastic.
Thank you!
Do you recommend putting leather conditioner on the leather liners?
*9:01** Are these two insoles here? If so why are there two? I'm not complaining, I'm jusr confused lol 😅😂! It's really good to see the shoe taken apart as well!*
*I love your videos!!*
Nice!
Been watching for a while now. I have a question. Have you considered a stiffer knife for spreading that cork?
Hey guys, sadly I missed your newest video that came out a few hours ago, "1990s doc martens resole using fire". I'd love to see it. I hope it's being re-uploaded in the future.
I have enjoyed watching these videos. It really looks like something I would enjoy doing. But you guys make it look easy. I just noticed that I wasn't getting videos for awhile and I had to go and look you up again. I wasn't subscribed to the channel for some reason? Got that fixed. I wanted to ask if you was interested in doing my work boots. I'm a handyman that works outside and inside in West Virginia. we have all 4 seasons of the year. I have Georgia g-8162 artic toe boots, which are insulated and I purchased these for $324. I need them pretty soon and the soles are gone on them. I mean, I took my time and took both soles off. It looks like everything else looks great. I noticed a stich to the sole at the toe on these. Is that something new? I never seen you guys do that. I want to change the sole a bit with something more centered on comfort. I'm 50 and have issues with my legs so I need something that will help through the day. A friend told me a co Nusole done his but I am betting him u guys can do better. lol Would you be interested in doing these Size 13 Georgia Artic toe? They are 10+ years old and you could tell me if they are taken care of like recomended with leather shoes? Thanks for your time
Wow! Wow! Wow! Is the leather filler permanent?
I've always wondered, when you separate the old welts from the uppers, is conditioning required for the edge leather of the uppers, before you attach the new welt? Obviously it would need to be done before stitching the new welts, but I've never seen a video where that portion of the leather is taken care of. To me it seems like that would be an important step given the stress that leather is getting from the stitches, and because naturally you can't reach those areas when doing regular conditioning on the uppers. Any thoughts?
Is there any creams that you soften leather boots with !
would it be possible to add leather filler to a gash/crack where the toe bends in the toebox?
I'm trying to follow along might tough at the moment..
Excellent!
What leather filler did you guys use for the cracks?
wondering the same!
How to know whene gimming is letting go? From sole perspective it looked just worn
When do you plan to accept new restoration orders again?
Soon
I wanna know what that cork smells like when you're hitting it with the iron lol
Haha…it smells like burnt glue. Unfortunately, it’s not the most pleasant of smells.
Excellent
Nice video like always. I got a question. If I had a pair of boots that were steel-toed, could I bring them to someone like yourselves, could they take the steel toe out and resole them? Because when I first bought them I didn't see much of a problem but the more I wore them, the back edge of the steel toe started rubbing more and more on the top of my feet. I just was asking if it could be done and your opinions on it.
I've noticed that the cork you use now comes in plastic bags instead of cans. Does that help keep the cork stay moister longer ? Have a great weekend guys.
I think they transfer the cork from a can into the plastic bag. In a previous video one of them said they got the idea from watching their wife use a pastry bag. It makes dispensing the cork easier. That said, perhaps he was joking as well.
Haha…so the long story is, the cork originally comes in plastic bags, and there are about 10 tubes (plastic bags) of cork in a 5 gallon bucket. That’s the way it comes when you order it in bulk. At some point, we decided to put a tube of cork into the metal tin, but we realized that it was drying the cork out too quickly by doing that. We decided to continue keeping them in the plastic bags and then stored in the 5 gallon bucket.
Would it not have been cheaper to buy new boots? I’ve had shoes and heals redone many times but rebuilding boots looks very time consuming, so expensive compared to buying new.
Approx how long does it take to complete a pair of boots like these start to finish?
When you resole with new cork, is the old foot imprint inside the boots gone? I have a used AE shoes, and I’m trying to get rid of the old owner’s foot print.
love you guys ❤
😉❤️
Guys, pick your feet up! My current everyday sneakers are three years old, and the soul is in great shape, as are my 5:11 boots that are six plus years. I got them second hand.
