I come back every year or so to watch this a couple times. It is a perfect manifestation of Jack Black's awesomeness
One thing that I always appreciated about this segment is that the everyday people who would send in corrections understood the bit and put on smarmy attitudes about it. It makes it funnier and gives Conan PLENTY to bounce off of. I forgot how fun these were. The Comic book related ones were hilarious.

The judo guy who "complained" is know in Judo as a bit of a strange bird. He is talking about traditional judo and wears a black judogi (kimono) which is a major no-no. Jack Black is awesome.
It wasn't a Judo roll, it was technically an Aikido roll, the difference being the aim after the roll. In Judo, the aim is to stand immediately and prepare for the next attack, prefering stance over movement, whereas in Aikido, the aim is to keep as much momentum as possible to stay as fluid as possible. Hope this helps explain.. :)
Wizborg Yes.....Judo throws can suck and be painful, while Aikido is the art of "self defence without violence". In Judo, someone attacks, you hip toss them or whatever on their head, while in Aikido, you use their momentum to push them out of the way, or roll into a position, without violence. My instructor said its usefull if an old man starts to attack you lol
Voidmaster, yes i agree, i understand momentum is a huge part of Judo. What i should have said, in Judo, you can hurt someone, while Aikido is meant as self defence without harming youre oponent
Cool man, thanks for sharing. I only took some Judo/Jiu-Jitsu/Aikido over 10 years ago, for about 2 years. It was fun, i learned a lot. I never competed professionally, never even went for a belt. The dojo ended up closing down before the huge mma boom (once Tito and Frank Shamrock, Chuck Lidell showed up)

obviously it's because Jacks methods are too dangerous and frowned upon by the Judo community. Don't think they'd allow him to even have the proper Judo gear because his moves are too kickass

***** Well youre right, respect is earned, not out of fear of punishment. My Taekwondo teacher is one of the best guys I have ever met; nice, full of care and interest for his students, has a sense of humour, and he was training with the guy who played Sub Zero in the original Mortal Kombat movie! Punishments he gives are really the final solution; after you backtalk and dont respect his warnings. But yes sir, I agree with you !

The guy that does the Judo course at my uni is also very outgoing. Except for the beggining and end of the lesson he pretty much throws all the serious stuff out the window. I would imagine it's definitely a lot more fun and intresting to participate in that kind of environment especially if you're just starting and not yet that experienced.

MAYBE. so yea, maybe you can do a perfect tiger roll with tight jeans on. i dont know, since i've always seen martial arts practitioners wear easy to move in clothing when they do stuff.

Okay, as a 7 times swiss national champion, 2 times european champion, and qualifier for the junior olympics, I can say that, all though Jack didn't have his legs quite spread out, any judo "teacher" who wears a black kimono (which doesn't exist, there is only white, or blue for competitions, no matter what your level), has a student with a mix of both kimonos, and works on those garbage mats instead of a tatami isn't qualified to be as much of a douche.
