      Not really. Only seems like that because they seemingly rewrote most of the narrative as V was a streetkid. If they really leaned into the lifepath choice V would have more than earned themselves a career back in Arasaka or some such, after they make them a new body, if you just want a good career path back.
      The goal as Dex would put it after the Heist was no longer blaze of glory or quiet life, it was just simply don't fucking die.
      With the options they have laid out now for the finale it's, be reborn eventually and return to Corpo life, or wherever you want to go after. Become a Night City legend and go on another kamikaze run at a space casino, blaze of glory, and/or still die in 6 months. Or live with the Nomads for 6 months, then die. Or give Johnny your body and go into the net, which is sort of like dying though they leave it rather ambiguous.

I dunno about everyone else, but my V has a significantly long list of achievements, especially in the kill or capture department. • @shadowofdarkness22
      @shadowofdarkness22 3 года назад +75

      I actually had this whole discussion with a friend of mine.
      Using ones full name is very formal, like a full title. Like introducing someone in the courts you would say their full name, title, and maybe honorifics. But its also kind of odd. Most would default to the last name because you say that first anyway (Aka calling Saburo, Arasaka-Sama) Since the last name is the clan name, that alone should have weight. So Takemura saying her full name sounds like he's reintroducing Hanako to V, which I suppose in a way he is because Hanako would have definitely changed after everything. She is not the same person Takemura had known and respected.
      Overall, not using honorifics implies either closeness, or rudeness. It all depends on the context. In this case, I believe you are right in that Takemura isn't satisfied with how Hanako treated V. He clearly shows displeasure at the fact V is kept in a cage and how they treated him/her. Also Takemura said he was being transferred. I don't know if its just me, but I think he asked to be transferred back to Japan, not was suddenly transferred. If if were me, I wouldn't continue to stay Saburo's bodyguard either.

    The station feels like the Mikoshi itself... think about it. Arasaka has no reason to keep their word. They could have put v’s engram directly into the Mikoshi. The everyday health check ins are just a computer program stimulating v’s engram and run testing on it. What we see are simply visual stimulation, a simulation making v’s engram thinks himself/herself is still alive. All the “real” scenes has this weird color grading, while the “dreams” all have more realistic color. The final deciding scene is just another dream... the title “where is my mind” also is hinting this. Why ask where is my mind if v’s mind is in her brain all along? The personality check is also a lot like the one in blade runner that check whether V’s engram has turned into an AI and lost its humanity.

      Slasher That’s because your ideologies don’t align with corpos. Takemura sides with Arasaka in a world with no clear rights or wrongs. Although corporates are known for their obvious corruption, there are still cases like Takemura and Hanako who upheld her agreement without betrayal. Rebels like Johnny on the other hand may be against corpo greed. But that still doesn’t change the fact that he’s a terrorist and is responsible for the deaths of thousands due to the nuke. Even people like V and Jackie aren’t angels. Their careers consist of stealing and killing for eddies. Whether your V is morally good or not depends on the types of gigs you choose. The game largely consists of V being at the bottom of society where the narrative is to be against corpos. If the majority game mainly took place within Arasaka as a personnel who works there, players would have a complete different perspective of what’s good and wrong in cyberpunk.

      I don't think that you're really talking to your friends at that point. Their responses just felt too weird and out of character... I think it's either V imagining it or Arasaka setting up some kind of AI to make you think you're talking to them and get the feeling your friends abandoned you... That way V would be more open to the tests and to staying with Arasaka, since they have no friends to return to anymore

      Disagree. That's an ending where you leave a city with all contacts u need in order to save yourself, plus you dont even go straight with any partner that u are still dying. They assume you still do, but the words of V saying that they're still dying are never spoken.
      The "secret" ending in space is the best. You are straight honest with everybody, and stay in order to find a cure and finish one last job that Johnny would've loved. (Since u need a good relationship with Johnny to trigger that ending.)
      I am sure that is the most canon ending, because I can totally see them make two major DLC's. One where we are in space, the other when we are back on Earth and then get to find a cure. Ingame broadcasts of people selling islands were all over too, so I can definitely see CDPR pull a "Blood & Wine" on us. A DLC where we all get the happy ending, true happy ending, we wanted and an island of our own. That would be the best choice, imo.

      For me its:
      Secret ending > Panam Ending > Rogue ending > Suicide ending > Johnny alive ending > Any scenario of Arasaka ending
      There are 2 "good endings" for me:
      Secret is you taking care of your shit, standing face to face to your problems and solving them. Its not being afraid of anything. Failure? You lose if you dont try! Death? You die even if you dont try! SO, why not do this? + V solves it on his own, not binding himself to anyone else AND if hes succesful he/she can join Panam or Judy (or Kerry/River if you romanced those guys) and live hapily; if he fails, he will be the only one to see himself in the bed for the last weeks and the closest will still remember him as a person full of life and hope; not the nopeless, pain wrecked human he will become after like 5 months.
      Panam ending is you trusting the closest and accepting defeat almost. Its escaping from your fight, hoping that others will save you, refusing to try to do it yourself. You also connect yourself with people around you more than in any other ending and your crash landing and death can be much more painful for them should you fail to save yourself. On the bright side, you will live AT LEAST 6 months with best people in the game (Dakota, Panam, Mitch, Carol, or Cassidy) and be happy at least for 5 months with them AND they could maybe help him. Another major issue is that Saul and Bob die because of you, for you when you could handle all of it yourself. (I think some unnamed Aldecaldos must have died as well off screen and not important => nobody mentions them.)
      The Rogue ending has a major set back or something bad with it:
      Rogue ending is essentially a secret ending minus the courage, willingness to do things your way and on your own, have your fate in your own lands and act. In this ending you just surrender control and let others do stuff for you. This ending also murders Rogue which is making this ending SO MUCH WORSE than the secret ending and possibly other people from Afterlife. Also, Johnny mentions to not take your close ones into this and he takes his best woman into this matter. Johnny then goes behind the black wall knowing that he murdered Rogue to buy you 6 months which must be terrible for him.
      There are 3 "bad endings" for me:
      Suicide ending while being the cleanest, easiest solution to everything. Its actually a solution to nothing. You refusing to fight, refusing to look for solutions, cowardly evading your problem and hurting everyone you like in the process, Judy most of all (wouldnt be surprised if she followed the Evelyn's and V's example). Suicide is simply something I would do only if there was nothing better for me. (For example if I was sentenced to death via torture with no way of escaping it, then i would maybe rather suicided than die eventually in a much more painful way - I would have suicided only if I was in my final stages, forced to be in bed and I had nobody working on a solution) + Mikoshi is still with Arasaka and V can only hope that Yorinobu is successful really. If Hanako wins or his plans are somehow prevented, the world is worse than in the beginning.
      Johnny ending is terrible because you make Johnny into a hypocrite (or even asshole if you go the Rogue path of promising to return the body and then not doing it) because he fought against parasitic corps sucking life out of people for their amusement, gain of power and immortality YET he does the same thing. All V's friends will hate him for it AND in case of Panam, she is a real existential threat because she was talking about hunting him down and we know Panam is never just talking. Johnny seems to have lost all will to live, rebel and stopped being Johnny. What lives in V's body is just a shadow of his former self that hates not only everyone around him BUT even himself now because of what he did to V (if Rogue died for him - what he did to Rogue) and all those sacrifices just so that he could life making him on the same level as Saburo who was willing to sacrifice people to become immortal which is for him even worse punishment than death imo because he completely ignored his ideals.
      Any Arasaka ending means Saburo Arasaka is reborn, the Arasaka death machine, machine of broken dreams and insane evil lives on AND now is even immortal as long as Saburo always creates a son (yes, not "has" but "creates" because sons will be for him just his future vessels, not his children and heirs), Arasaka is stronger than ever.
      If V chooses to go back to Earth its as if he chose to do nothing after the Heist, completely ignoring all his friends BUT this is even worse because he sold his soul already, helped the people that killed Jackie among many more, betrayed his friends, Johnny (if your V didnt despise him) and most of all, himself.
      If V chooses to join the "Secure your soul program", he willingly gives Arasaka all rights to him as their property becoming their thing, not a person AND Arasaka would probably clone him into all their guards and make him totally obedient to them making Arasaka nearly untouchable. V would obviously never see the body or his life he was promised.
      Those are my thoughts about the ending.

    I have been thinking about the different endings a lot. I feel like V choosing to merge with AI and Silverhand getting a redemption arc in form of a second life in V´s body is a suitable ending, at the same time tragic, too. There is one thing to support this, a radio report talks about AI predicting and preparing for something big, therefore one of the endings with Alt seems highly canon. It probably still makes more sense for Johnny Silverhand and Alt to be reunited on a personal level, but I feel like V would choose to save Johnny after figuring out he isn't actually the bad guy here, as it is initially suggested in their early hours. Then they bond, V gains a greater understanding of Night City, through Johnny. At the same time Johnny´s destructive nature towards himself and others improves, which is very much suggested if he inherits V´s body. Hard to explain, feels like a suitable and yet tragic solution to both character arcs, but on some level both actually survive, including V´s body. Much like the Arasaka Ending, it is also very much open ended.
    The Space Casino ending feels like it brings the most closure to V´s arc, just as V (probably) set out to do, V lived a short and legendary life, since it is pretty clear V does not survive that one and solely cares about doing something so legendary, it will forever make history.
    I doubt V survives the Panam ending, there is a vague suggestion he could be saved, but if even Alt has no way to prevent/cure the body from its lethal transformation, I doubt anything really can. There is a strong sense of Alt having almost god like powers once fully enabled in the tower, so it is likely no human would be able to surpass that. V and people he met along the way do actually get some happyness out of it, for a while. But no matter how you spin it, V only gets out "alive" as data, Johnny may survive as data or as a human, the Arasaka ending is the only one to actually completely kill Johnny, that´s another reason why I don't think it would be the most likely one to be canon and it is also not fitting for Johnny´s character arc to just die. That being said, it is a very interesting ending, the whole immortality plot and how the corp always wins does indeed fit how things usually seem to play out in this game and that is compelling.
    In conclusion, all endings have things going for them, so yeah, the depth of the story in Cyberpunk is pretty fantastic.

    • @kamikaze00007
      @kamikaze00007 3 года назад +2

      @@VolksAlphaRogue with the setting as it is and Ghost in the Shell being one of the inspirations, it's kinda obvious that the server where the engram is stored is in the space station (thus eternal life...as a Ghost in the net). In Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex, the AI partners used by the main characters became self-aware and gained individuality. They were supposed to be wiped (as they are basically treated as malfunctioning AI), but the main character uploaded their data onto a satellite in space thus preserving them, "keeping them alive". They could then download themselves into new bodies (they were AI for SMART tanks so new tank bodies to be precise).
      The endings in Cyberpunk 2077 all point to the exact way V can survive. That is by transferring the engram onto another body with 100% compatibility. The story involving Johnny also emulates the same concept in GITS where the question lies in "souls being digitized", and the question of whether or not it is just a copy with the same memories, and will digitizing the soul be the key to near-immortality by transferring the "Ghost" onto another body. If they actually stay loyal to their inspirations, I would assume V will remain as the individual "V" even though he/she has become an engram/Ghost in the network, and through that will be able to return by occupying a new body once the technology appears. This is similar to how the Major in GITS appears to mysteriously help her comrades despite her disappearance or "death" by occupying random cyber bodies with her Ghost. This is what makes her question her humanity. Is the body just a container for the soul? Or is she just a program that occupies a machine body despite thinking she is "she"?
      I would definitely like to see this explored in a DLC.

    • @AvianEdits
      @AvianEdits 3 года назад +1

      I think all the endings actually hint at the DLCs. Going with Panam to a new land to find the cure would be my best bet. Bet they also might make it so the DLCs are before the end of the main game. Add more love interest and friends that can help you in the end mission and actually another way to be better friends with Johnny to get the "Don't fear the reaper" ending. Both in my head seam as good choices for a possible DLC. Or even play as Johnny in a new place in Vs body. That kinda seems off but also a goos option. They could also go the "Superior Spiderman" rout. Have Johnny take control of Vs body and then all of a sudden Vs mind comes back and Johnny's gives the body back (or doesn't, depending on how the story goes). There are actually a LOT of ways to still make a great story driven DLC for this game

    Intro NOTE: I apologize about the wall of text rant. The ending and what happened around the game, combined with the current Covid-19 crisis, has made me much more talkative that I first intended when I started writing my reactions. :)
    *********************
    Like a (very few) other people, I see that this game is missing one VERY important ending. It is made very clear at the beginning of the game that the chip will slowly but surely change V's brain to accommodate Johnny's engram ... and that by doing so, the personality in V's brain will change to that of Johnny's eventually becoming him. But the other thing that is very clear is that Johnny's engram can and DO change according to how V interact with him.
    To make a long story short, a story where V and Johnny's engram merge to form an entirely new personality that is based on both of them ... it should have been an available option in the game, and Viktor's explanation at the beginning was incredibly hinting at that being a possibility. But it isn't there.
    And it points out to one of my biggest gripe in the game along with many others (despite still having a ton of fun with the game):
    It is that, unlike what CDPR promised, none of your choices, in the end, actually matters. Now, we can hope for a DLC for future stories with V of course, but as it stands out, none of your choices really matters and V is going to die no matter what. Which means that everything you did was for naught.
    And no, Cyberpunk's bleak nature is not an excuse for this. As it been a classical story (a book, a movie, a series), having V die in the end (not matter what ending you choose), would have make for an incredible (passive) story. But for RPG game, and one that was adverstised as one where "choices matters" ... not so much.
    A better kind of story, where choices really matters and that take into account the dystopian and cruel nature of Cyberpunk, would be one where V and you as the player, grow close to a good amount of different people in the game. And with the choices you made ... you will be guaranteed to have some of those people die as a result of your actions, but also, some of them betraying you in a way that really, really hurts.
    And who gets to live, who gets to die (Johnny and V's included), and, of course, who will try to stab you in the back, would be heavily, if not entirely dépendant on the player's choices. Also, while you would be forced to to sacrifice, kill or, even worse, betray and murder some of your friends yourself, there would also have been ways to save others, and not V themselves.
    Now, that would be a much, much better game than this one and, even better, CDPR has proven (at least to me) that they are more than capable of writing RPG stories like that, the witcher series certainly showed that. :)
    But hey, those are very personal opinions, take them with a grain of salt :)

    • @daedalusdreamjournal5925
      @daedalusdreamjournal5925 3 года назад +1

      I would also like to add that, despite being incredibly flawed, I believe this game still is sound base to build on and provide an incredible and awesome game worthy of being in the same category as the witcher's game series.
      Now, it will be incredibly difficult for them, as they've lost an incredibly amount of trust from their player's base ... but I'd say it is doable.
      They will, however, need to put themselves in question and review where they massively failed, especially the managers. They seemed to be the problem there. Also, they will definitely need to treat their dev team much, much better. They did promised improvements there and failed to deliver.
      And as others once beloved team have proven before (like say, bioware, blizzard and others), if you treat your co-workers badly, if you don't respect them or your players, if you think that you can do no wrong based on previous beloved franchises, your arrogance will inevitably bite you in the *ss and your brand will become a shadow of its former self.
      I am hoping CDPR will understand that (though I am not entirely optimistic about that, though I still hope).
      I also hope they realize that they have to be much more open to what they are working on, show more footage of the current state of the game, allow people to see how the game dev progresses and in general, be much more open in their communication with their player's base.
      Seeing what happened with cyberpunk, I cannot help but be worried for "Bloodline 2", another game I've been waiting for so long. Unfortunately, what I am seeing seem to indicate I could have the same of disappointement as with Cyberpunk.
      Fortunately, I am getting the other side of the coin with the developpement of Baldur's gate 3 which, despite being in early access, has shown to be actually a completely unexpected surprise. Not that game is in dev, but that it seems that they will be able to deliver an awesome game based on what I've seen of it so far :)

      @@lamiakitsune There's more than bugs that I find annoying in this game but, even in its flawed form, I am, again, enjoying it a lot.
      Sometimes, I want to create some sort of 'petition', but not for things like "pay us back" or any crap like this but, rather, the kind that allow more reasonable players (and I see a lot of them in the cyberpunk community) who would like to make guenuine recommendations to make this game shift from good to "witcher" like quality and beyond :)
      I am doing my second run of the game and, the introduction part of the game seems much more different than the later part.
      And while the later part were still certainly enjoyable, for some reasons, the early part of the game seems more "cyberpunk" like to me ... and in the best of ways :)
      (especially the first mission with bug and Jackie. it has a much more cyberpunk edge to it with a small yet whole team that work together to pull a "run").

    • @Gabi-ik4rt

      as someone who reads tarot, Misty's interpretation of it is very surface level. There really isn't any major arcana that's inherently good or bad, except maybe the devil or the tower, but even then you can find positive in it. If anything, the fool should be pretty promising for V- meaning the beginning of a new journey and optimism, and the High Priestess (assuming that's Hanako) doesn't look all that bad, either. High Priestess isn't evil, she encourages self-reflection and moral guidance, but also has secrecy. The High Priestess is not a selfish woman. Moon is mystery, but also self-deception, so at least they got that one right to an extent. They definitely botched some of the cards, should've used the court, or at least more reversed meanings, if they wanted something to more accurately reflect the story.
      Or maybe they left it vague intentionally in case there's ever a sequel? tho I'd have to pull some saburo shit if I wanted to see that in my lifetime lmao

    • @Gabi-ik4rt
      @Gabi-ik4rt 3 года назад +1

      404Dannyboy They don’t just use it for foreshadowing, it’s also used around the map for environmental storytelling- my favorite instance is using the tower, a card that represents chaos and complete upheaval of everyday life, at the bombing sit of Arasaka Tower. If they’re gonna include tarot, it’s so much better to have accurate meanings. There’s a lot of potential when it comes to tarot, and while yes I get the symbolism between major characters/monuments in the game, it feels a little half baked at points, which is unfortunate when just about every other part of the story is pretty satisfying and well-written. Probably just another corner that had to be cut 🤷‍♀️
      Also, I don’t know why tarot would change meaning just cause it’s 2077...? Tarot has been around since the 1400s and the major arcana is one of the most well established parts of tarot. If they did change it, they’d have to explain it in canon and I haven’t seen anything like that in game.
      Either way, still fun to analyze the symbolism, especially considering it’s something I’m passionate about! I hope they sell a deck with the art in-game 😁 cause while the figures don’t always reflect the card’s meaning, there’s so much more to be interpreted with art.

    • @404Dannyboy
      @404Dannyboy 3 года назад +1

      @@Gabi-ik4rt Tarot as a form of divination is much younger and the meanings there in have changed over time. Tarot is only as old as the 1400's as a gaming card deck disassociated with any modern mystical meanings.

    • @Gabi-ik4rt
      @Gabi-ik4rt 3 года назад

      404Dannyboy but still, why change the meaning of what we have right now and not inform the player? And the meanings have remained pretty universal for the past ~150 years, even more so if you’re looking at the major arcana used in game. The major arcana depicts the fool’s journey to enlightenment, starting with the fool and working your way all the way to the world, and that hasn’t seemed to change in universe. Pretty sure CDPR just bought into the fact that tarot is getting popular again and included it in their game (see: dragon age)
