    As far as endings go, this is one of the saddest, if not the most. But it's also probably my preferred one. Not that I want to kill myself, or leave these people behind. But V summed it up pretty well, is he worth their sacrifice? He's one man, two if you count Johnny. As far as I see it, becoming Johnny has the same implications, except most of them don't know where you are or what you're doing. Going with Arasaka, either yoh die storing your personality on Mikoshi and its the same scenario, or you leave and piss off everyone. Going with the Nomads you are risking a ton of lives and will have their deaths on your hands, and doing the last heist before you die is again another way you die. At least with suicide you are risking less lives, and everyone at least has the knowledge that you are indeed dead, instead of wondering where you went for the rest of their lives. That's just my thoughts on the matter.

    • @MAJ0ROCEL0T
      @MAJ0ROCEL0T 3 года назад +21

      I get the logic, but the thing that has to be looked at is literally all the death up until that point was wasted. For sure dead is Scorpion, which is a pretty big deal. You then also have Oda, Takemura, Maiko, Tom from clouds, and all the unnamed people in Night City. Not to mention it clearly implies that Judy is close if not for sure going to commit suicide. She lost Evelyn, potentially Maiko, V, and all she has left is her older grandparents. She has so little left to live for and in a city that swallows people whole. This ending is incredibly tragic given that V was 5 minutes of silence and a well modded gun away from storming the tower, burning Arasaka and Mikoshi to the ground, buying either Johnny a second chance at life or 6 months to stop the death and bring a final strike to Arasaka to its knees with the space heist. V living not only provides Panam with a better life, but it also brings Judy a much better life. I think the truest best ending is actually never to romance anyone, and then go Solo mode and take on Arasaka in Don't Fear the Reaper. V becomes a legend, no one else besides Arasaka dies, Mikoshi soul prison is no more, and Panam calls thanking V for getting her on the right path back with her family (Saul is still alive) and Judy calls talking about how leaving Night City was the best thing ever for her and that she suggests V does the same. Kerry is just gossiping and doesn't seem to be madly in love or anything, and River is donating firearms to the good fight in your honor.
      Its hard as the individual to do this path but in reality, if you're told you got 2 weeks to live, you would be smart to just not fall in love or sleep around, but instead just make the positive impact you could before dying. Which you do in that end, no more bloodshed, any bloodshed isn't in vain, V becomes immortal through legend, and everyone who met him/her is better for it.

    • @chiquitadave3304
      @chiquitadave3304 3 года назад +17

      @@MAJ0ROCEL0T Personally I played non lethal and modded my guns to be that way. The only person that died in my playthrough was scorpion, I saved takemura, spared oda and maiko and didn't shoot up clouds so Tom lived. I saw that Judy had her grandparents and other friends as a support system. Yes she lost Evelyn, but she had others to rely on. I was trying to mitigate the amount of people that would die. Seeing that if I shot up Arasaka, I would be killing many people who probably didn't deserve it. Yes they work for an evil corporation, but they aren't calling the shots, they are just trying to make money to survive in night city. I figured Arasaka would fall anyway with Yorinobu running it to the ground or internal conflict would destroy it. Even if I didn't do it to save others, I would still prefer it over slowly withering away over the span of a few months. I would go out when I wanted to, not when my body decides to.
      But you make a good point saying it's better to not romance anyone and just do the space heist. Never really thought about it that way, how you get attached to these people just to die months later and break their hearts then.

      Sounds like you would like the secret ending best. If you get close with Johnny he will eventually offer for you to go it alone into arasaka. It’s really cool.
      Still I think the best ending is if you have Panam help you. It ties up the story well and it’s a happy ending.

    • @evandroescutatrap131
      @evandroescutatrap131 2 года назад +5

      There is no blood in V's hand from his friends at least. They died not because of V's situation, they died because of V himself. The person he is, to them, is so important, such a bright light, that they rather die for him then let he die or get kidnapped by some weird corporation. It's not you fooling people for your own ideals, like Johnny once did. It's friends trying to help YOU and doesn't matter what happens, because they LIKE YOU. It's not your call, its theirs. That's why Panam's ending is so meaningful. Not just because of silly romances, because since the day one in NC you're doing things that marked people. It's all about the memory you leave in them.

    I think there's a reason CDPR made this ending so damn depressing, honestly I came out of it teared up, I said to myself "nah this isn't it, this is terrible". The way judy is just completely broken, she had to experience experience both her girlfriends kill themselves, she feels like shit. The way viktor wants to cry but he acts tough, the way everyone is so upset by your death. This just goes to show suicide is never the option. You might think it'll free you of your pain but you're only hurting your loved ones.

      Sure it is. In this ending V is totally messed up. Johnny told him that idea is going to end bad. V didn't listen. Then he quarreled with Johnny, but in the end it turned out that he was right. You die anyway. You spat on everything you negotiated with Johnny, and you let Jackie down. And in the end, so generally forced to become a victim of the corporation - construct. That which you have been running from since the beginning of the game. You can leave, but what's the point? Eternal nightmares, voices in your head ... and if you become an Enogram and they even find a new body for you (probably not), then you will be forced to work for a corporation. But...no, they really don't give a f**k about you. You completely f**ked up

    One of the most devastating things about this ending, rewatching this nearly 2 years after the first, is the ending of the cutscene where the camera zooms out on Night City and the sounds of the city and people's day-to-day lives just gets so loud and surrounding that the gunshot all of us were waiting for and anticipating just almost becomes part of the scenery and fades into the background. In the moment no one knows, no one cares and no one notices. Just another death in Night City.

    I have flirted with the concept of suicide many times throughout my childhood and life. I saw this ending firsthand and it struck a cord, but didn’t change how I felt. Judy is the kind of caring friend that I wish I was to myself. Panam’s reaction hit me, but not in the same way as it did for others. It made me angry, because it’s exactly how I treat myself internally. It’s the reason why I don’t go through with suicide or accept defeat, because people were so cold towards me, so unempathetic that it’s the reason I’m so hard on myself. I grew up with a father who always looked down on me, never supported me.
    Now I’m in my early 20s, just lost a friend to suicide last year. It did not change my mind. Because I understand it. The only time we see overwhelming support for a person is not at their lowest moment, not when they’re in the ECU, but only when you die. Because nobody batted an eye when it was me in that spot. Cause everybody’s got problems but nobody’s got your problems. No person showed me love and I gave every bit of that which I had left in my soul. People got no fuckin idea what it’s like to grow up without a father figure, without your older brother in your life. People I know got either PTSD, bipolar disorder but none of them know what it’s like to have all these things and be autistic. That’s why you hear that saying “nobody gives a shit till you’re dead.” Because nobody gets it. Nobody knows what to say or what’s going to help you. It’s not right but it is how it is. Because death speaks to you differently. It’s a reminder your time is temporary and suddenly all that beef you had with someone doesn’t matter anymore.

    You know, I think this is a good ending, not a bad/worst one. V is in his own last moments and is faced to either risk it with his friends, or risk it with a corpo, none of them is a guarantee that he'll survive, but there will most likely be steep prices to pay. So there he is, with the power to still make his own damn choices before transforming into someone else. V's trail of violence and tragedy ends there, on his own terms and nobody else's. Hell, even Silverhand agrees to that.
    It makes me sad to think of the many things he goes through to be able to save himself, only to come to such conclusion. After so much fighting, the most paceful way to go was to off himself.
    I would've liked the option to just let the body go and offer it to Silverhand, like I had agreed with him just before meeting with Hanako.

    Even with Hanako and Takemura replacing Saburo and Yorinobu, he still believes that they are one and the same (which possibly is true, despite their good intentions, the world will keep the status quo like Takemura mentioned).
    Even still, Johnny is a player amongst players of that world. He craved to change it and yet, even his defiance is just another way of keeping the status quo in place. Change the players but not the game, so to speak.
    Whichever path you take, be it suicide, Corpo or Nomad, people will die. I think suicide is worse since you really have no other options after that.
    You are still alive but as Johnny once your consciousness fades in the back. Johnny can bring you back after that happens. Or, as Johnny feared it, your new persona will be born from yours and Johnny's personalities. So you're still you, just different perspective. You might still remember your past but it's as if you're watching someone else's which is true to people who have moved on from their damaged/traumatizing past.
    Nomads would still be being played by corpos and getting their way of life threatened by the big world.
    Hanako's faction and many others who oppose Yorinobu would be eliminated by Adam Smasher (who is the only irredeemable prick in the story and shouldn't be allowed to live).

      @maaaaaap 4 года назад

      agreed, i dont think siding with arasaka is any worse than this ending. yeah, Johnny disapproves it, but for him it's personal and even though he has changed during the game, this is too much for him. and if you return to earth, you still have time to help your other friends

    • @huleyn135
      @huleyn135 2 года назад

      Because arasaka literally is the same. Saburos daughter fervently worships her dad. Saburo literally takes over his son with an engram. Arasaka is just as bad as it was in 2020. Its the worst and most dishonorable ending.
      And there is no guarantee your engram will actually be put in a Clone and even if it is you can rest assured arasaka will put you into servitude.

    • @wanderingbufoon
      @wanderingbufoon 2 года назад

      @@huleyn135 Yeah but throughout the game we actually get to see the decision making of Saburo and how he is a better choice than Yorinobu.
      We also see that he did just fine as a father but of course instead of the siblings being balanced, both of them are balanced in the way of extreme (one is completely trying to dismantle his legacy while the other wishes to continue it).
      Saburo is human. A powerful one at that. What he does affects the world in an unbelievable scale. What Takemura is saying is that when you are in a position of that much power, you will greatly impact everyone in both great and terrible ways alike.
      We can see this while pursuing Johnny's mission. We can see him regretting some of the things that he had done and how his violent actions had only solidified Arasaka's hold and so on.
      There were plently of shady things that we see Arasaka do and yet we blatantly see just how bad Cyberpunks are and yet because we see the story on their side, we see it as the correct ones.
      Playing as Corpo at the start, it's all the same. The whole theme is the game's status quo. How everyone is enslaved to it.
      No matter which level you are on, which path you took, you are tied to that game.
      Doesn't matter if you're Saburo, you will find yourself murdered by your son, which will take over the place only to be killed off later on.
      Or the Nomad, who will die out in the city outskirts, destroyed by the mega corps.
      Or street kid, just churned out by the mechanisms of the city.
      I mean just take a look at Adam Smasher. Completely legendary merc. A true killer machine and yet, like his moniker, he's simply a machine. He does nothing until told to.
      We see Johnny, D, and V wreak havoc in the entire city with just themselves and a little band of crew.
      Imagine the devastation Adam Smasher can actually bring and yet he does not do so.

    If im being honest, the melodramatic scenes like this are extremely out of place. Hell, a few hours before this V was slaughtering their way through dozens of corpo enployees. Why is V's life worth more than the hundreds lost in their rampage?
    Same thing with Johnny. He hurt and killed a LOT of people yet he's revered as a saint. The dichotomy between "all these people are worthless and must die" and "I can't believe one person i was close to is now dead I'm sad now" puts it into perspective how little the world will actually notice V being gone. The things they did and changed, lives they've taken, promises made and failed to be held. Then gone, like they weren't there anymore.
    I feel like this is the closest thing to a true neutral ending. Eventually, the death and chaos and pain stops being worth it. And to a person who, in their mind, has already died 3 times, whats the point in hanging on? Its either wait for the slow burning fuze to completely erase them, or get even more people hurt and killed for their own peace. V might be hardened, but they were never heartless.
    This....this was the best choice for the least amount of collateral. You can argue that V is responsible for the beginning of a chain reaction that brings the corpos down for good, but it wont change the power structure. People on top will remain on top as long as their is power to hold. When one company can at will fry half their population, it won't topple overnight.
    Goodnight, Samurai.

    Every time I chose the ending where V teams up with Panam or Rogue and destroys Arasaka's tower, I felt a little bad for Takemura, because of how disappointed he was in V in his message during the credits.
    But after that bastard didn't leave any message at all in the suicide ending, and this despite the fact that my V had fulfilled all his requests before and even saved his life when he could just turn around and run, then he could go to hell, Arasaka's pet dog.
    Ungrateful bastard.

    i clicked on the suicide option by accident. i thought that it meant he was gonna put up with the troubles that having johnny around caused. i thought they were stick together without the omega blockers and just deal with what was happening. i never expected this ending. i closed out of the game and loaded the most recent save right when i heard the gun shot. i searched for this video to see what happened and that final quote at the end made me choke and cry. "i dont think you knew just how many friends you really had." just write that made me tear up again. i usually show no attachment to characters in games and movies, but for some reason this really fucking got me. it was a great ending, but i was not ready to let it end yet. i am excited to play throught the rest of the game with johnny and v. idk how many people will see this, but thank you for reading this.

    Given that most of everyone in the comments are talking about Judy's VA's stellar acting, I should give a little insight as to why her acting needs to be as stellar as it is. If V kills him/herself, depending on if you helped Judy with her side quests and even romanced her, V will be the 2nd person in her life who was close to her, in a pretty short timespan, to commit suicide. Evelyn killed herself in Judy's bathtub, and she called V for help at the time. As you get to know Judy more and, depending on how much she opens up to you about things in her life, she'll eventually admit that she's always felt alone. Let these factors and context sink in and try to be in Judy's shoes; She's never been truly happy in Night City, and seems like for much of her life she hasn't been, and the two people she truly cared about, one that she would even get into a serious friendship or relationship with, killed themselves. This ending gets more horrible the more you think about things in the long run for these characters, especially Judy.
