Dude, The Magic Roundabout was originally a French animation called Le Manège enchanté but when the BBC imported the show, the scripts weren't translated, so Eric Thompson (father of Emma Thompson BTW) thought "fuck it" and just made the scripts up while watching the animation. That's the main reason why it's so weird. Also Weinstein totally fucked up the movie, adapting the UK one and adding shitty jokes about celebrities. If you want to see a proper Magic Roundabout movie, watch Dougal and the Blue Cat. And PLEASE Don't generalize Europe as one country, there's a whole host of cultures completely different.

Since then I've watched the older stop motion shorts and Dougal and the Blue Cat and liked them all, some parts of the Blue Cat especially creeped out my younger self.

There was a LOT of subtle (yet direct) commentary on Weinstein way before his horrid behavior was made known to the public, mostly by comedians. So many people clearly knew about Harvey's shit, I'm amazed he got away with it for so long. Shame on you, Hollywood. Harvey himself was obviously the ultimate piece of shit, but your complacency was the reason he was able to victimize so many people!
Okay so, let me get this straight: - The man behind the idea of this movie is outed as a sexual deviant 11 years later. - The man behind the script of this movie creates a kickstarter for a pointless TV service 12 years later. This movie is more than just bad. It's cursed.
Casey, Scottie and Dalek Considering the fact that that edit was released by Miramax, which was founded by the Weinsteins, I wouldn't be surprised honestly.
@Duck The 30 years of development was the legitimate version of the film. When it fell into the hands of other studios they edited the film and dubbed a lot of voices.
Well, Disney tried to make a director’s cut of The Theif & the Cobbler to make it the way Richard Williams intended it to be. But, it didn’t happen, fortunately, there’s a fan edit called The Recobbled Cut
22:48 Kiss Cartoon has a non-shitty version of The Magic Roundabout. The real kicker is that their version of Doogal is at a lower resolution than their version of The Magic Roundabout.
I received this on DVD from my grandparents when I was 7. Not knowing anything about it, and y'know, being 7 years old, I was like "Cool, thanks!" and I watched it. I was HORRIFIED. This movie felt like a fucking fever dream! And I would always ask my friends if they had seen or heard of this movie, and, of course, no one ever had (because this movie is garbage). Even as a 7 year old I knew this movie was terrible! To call the pacing glacial is generous and the plot is convoluted and weird as hell. I remember being annoyed endlessly by the stupidity of the characters and overall just wanting this movie to end. Fun Fact: I still have my original copy of Doogal on DVD, mostly just to convince myself what I saw was in fact, a real film and not just a nightmare I repressed from childhood.
tia thomas The only reasons I had to watch this movie was because: 1.My mother's ex boyfriend was from England and it was just nostalgia for him 2.My mother is a Jimmy Fallon fangirl
18:48 oh fuuuuuuck I remember watching that episode on DVD back in the day. It still gives me the chills to this day (pun unintentional). The music is so good.
I think there's one good thing about the American cut, and it's that Doogal has a cute voice to match his adorable puppy appearance. I really have no interest in the show or the movie, but I want a plush of Doogal so bad. He's just so cute and fluffy!
"I didn't know they were shooting Ice Age 2 in here!" 1. How does this sassy black cow that doesn't even look like Whoopi Goldberg's voice should be coming out of it know what Ice Age is? 2. Ice Age 2 is an animated movie. It was not shot and filmed, it was rendered on computers to match the pre-recorded dialogue by the actors. This animated movie doesn't know how itself works.
Fact: the original British version of the film was concieved and directed by the Bolexbrothers, a studio in Bristol known for their disturbing stop-motion films, particularly their only other feature, The Secret Adventures of Tom Thumb. A film in which Tom is a half-fetus, born from a test tube, who gets captured by a genetics lab and narrowly escapes mutilation, before witnessing his alcoholic father being brutally murdered in an alley outside a pub. Great movie. Also, the British dub for "Roundabout" contains several blatant drug references in its dialogue, a nod to the TV series' popularity with stoners and the many theories that have spawned throughout the years over the show's "inspiration".
Hard-working monsters set on scaring humans, harbor a child they need to keep secret from the rest of the world or suffer the consequences. Oh my god...
"Harvey Weinstein decided to do an English version, re-dubbing many of the voices which were already in English." Me: Okay... "-he cut several minutes from the film-" Me: *THERE IT IS!*
After watching both versions, I solved the mystery of the disappearing fog at 18:21 in the video. The American dub skipped over a dream/nightmare sequence Dougal had involving candy and too many Florences, and when he woke up, the storm had died down a bit. Still doesn't explain how they could all just sleep out there in the snow and be fine in the morning.
I actually remember something about the original show- and it’s hilarious. The english version of the show, due to none of the people working on it having any idea how to translate french (I think it was french) and not caring, didn’t know what any of the episodes were about and just made up stories that wouldn’t make any sense that also had felt like they were making it up as they went (which they were) so it was nonsenical dialog from characters that were just doing random shit. So that explains stoners enjoying the show, as it was batshit crazy.
This brought back some repressed memories of the McDonald’s toys, I remember the soldier had a chest that would open, and a button on his back that would make the crystal inside glow red.
I loved the Magic Roundabout. One day they played Doogal on Cartoon Network and I was expecting the original UK dub but I was horrified seeing that english dub
"Did Nintendo rip off Doogal? Find out on Game Theory." Wow. After watching this review, I might actually consider purchasing Arms. Never dropping 60 bucks for it though.
DYLAN THE RABBIT IS A SOCIOPATH WHY I GAVE A COPY OF DOOGAL TO THE POPE WHY DOOGAL IS JUST A DREAM DOOGAL'S 20-MINUTE TIMELINE, STAY AFTERWARDS FOE THE DOOGAL LIVESTREAM
I love how the skeleton just makes a god awful one-note reference, only for the other the save it with some ironically funny dialogue. These voice actors are on another plane of existence and I don’t know if that’s good or bad anymore. No wonder this franchise is associated with drugs lol
I watched this as a kid (I'm one of the lucky few who actually saw it in theaters), and I was so confused by the "hey, I thought we said no Disney?" line. As a child I didn't understand ad-libbing and was so confused as to what it meant and why it was there. Rewatching it moths later when it hit DVD didn't help.
eyeoftheredgiant he did include the lost Phantom Blood movie in his lost media countdown, and in his Room tour video he has a jojo video game in dream cast
Weeaboss he boasts about his fucking Eva video game, yet mentions nothing about the JoJo game, not even acknowledging it in his room tour. And nice snek.
Marty Araragi I love snek girl, I'd Senran her Kagura~ But yeah, ikr? He said he bought it before JoJo was cool (i.e 2008). He also had it in a previous video, forget which one. I've been a fan of his stuff since the beginning though, sent him stuff before.
So, America took a movie that is the equivalent of Sesame Street, redubbed it in English even though it was already in English and somehow dumbed it down? Christ, executives in America must think children are dumber than bricks. I'm surprised the Yanks didn't add idiotic dialogue to the Shaun the Sheep movie. Like goddamned. What is America's obsession with dumbing down and/or redubbing European entities for kids? Are they afraid kids are too unsophisticated for a freaking English show? Also Judi Dench sounds super bored and like she disapproves of the script she's given. Not that I blame her.
+someone random American executives dumb down and redub other American entities for kids, too. American execs do have little faith in the intelligence of children. That's why everyone in America hates them. Or at least, anyone in America with more than 2 brain cells.
I remember this film. Well, not Doogal, but The Magic Roundabout. Best scene IMO is the railway chase scene. Also, this film is kinda dark. Killing kids via hypothermia? Check. Zeebad shooting Zebedee of the cliff? Check. Being chased by a fucking steam locomotive with a drill front? Check. Killing your former minion and ripping his "heart" out of his chest? Check. Also, Doogal is an asshole. I hated him. Should've been chained in a cage.
9:45 They needed footage of Kevin Smith talking about the film production but when he ended up having very little positive to say they just asked him about his film making career and carefully edited it so that it only showed these details.
When I watched the Magic Roundabout (in the U.K.) when I was younger and I was terrified of it. It's weird hearing narration on this as I never thought that film needed narration.
ThisIs ReadyMade Yeah, Train does come back as a little bit of help and a brief deus ex machina to distract Tom Baker's Zeebad... Train is voiced by Lee Evans this is some of his standup material on his YT page! ruclips.net/video/pEHrR_zjdXc/видео.html

It's funny looking at the clips in the video with what we now know about the Harvey Weinstein, turns out they weren't joking about how evil they were.
Theo Winters every instance made me wonder why nobody did anything before 4 months ago.
"Oh dear." said Doogal
Okay so, let me get this straight:
- The man behind the idea of this movie is outed as a sexual deviant 11 years later.
- The man behind the script of this movie creates a kickstarter for a pointless TV service 12 years later.
This movie is more than just bad. It's cursed.
Also Jimmy Fallon

It’s not even the original movie, it’s the American version lmao.
It's even more cursed when you know that Hartman is one of those psychos who thinks you can just pray away autism.
It hurts me because I am an autistic person myself.
This re-edit voice over thing seems like what happened to "thief and the cobbler"
That's the most putrid way to make and/or localize a film. Just putting it out there.

Fun Fact: I still have my original copy of Doogal on DVD, mostly just to convince myself what I saw was in fact, a real film and not just a nightmare I repressed from childhood.
tia thomas I think you described what I feel too. Except I was 9.

Harvey Weinstein's DOOGAL, a Butch Hartman Film
I think there's one good thing about the American cut, and it's that Doogal has a cute voice to match his adorable puppy appearance. I really have no interest in the show or the movie, but I want a plush of Doogal so bad. He's just so cute and fluffy!

"I didn't know they were shooting Ice Age 2 in here!"
Benjamin Johnson It was a reference because Ice Age 2 was coming out like, a month after Doogal was released.
This movie is a cash cow.
Topicality
Actors take advantage of animation... they dont know or care about the struggles of what the animators go through.
@@asiabrown99 And Owned by a Mouse in 2019.

No better way to celebrate this film's 15th anniversary than watching this video.

Yeah, but they mostly do that for foreign stuff. Domestic stuff has more freedom to be itself.
At least Sesame Street is a smart show for little kids. This is not!
She does
