The developer actually posted this on an indie games subreddit the other day. Apparently he just loved the shit out of Road Rash and wanted to make a modern version.
@No Name - Yup, I'd say this is a great pick-up-and-play kind of small title to enjoy in short bursts. And the goal was to create a modern version of Road Rash in everything but name, so, a success. It may not be the Game of the Year, but it didn't mean to be one, either.
This is similar to road rash how? Apart from the aesthetic it feels more like a mobile racing game. Also the crowd source video was basically a lie and not similar to the end product at all. Just hype video.
After seeing this, watching a Ride to Hell LP sounds rather good. That game deserves a sequel and redemption, we need more awkward dry humping, reused explosion effect, shitty QTE events, and floaty cheap vehicle effects...GO TO THE RIGHT AND EXPLOOOODDDDEEEEE!!!
I got to say its ones like "Roadlike Elements" that make me love Jim's titles. It's something i think ive taken for granted. A heart? Well... honestly didn't think I'd be heard (youtube comments and all that) Jim Stirling, you've made an Australian fan very very happy :)
later on there will be microtransactions that let you dress as a stormtrooper. Maybe Worf from the next generation or pepper pig. a full expansion will then arrive that themes the whole game so you have star wars levels where you are on a speeder bike and there are trees on the road. Then a Star Trek addon where everyone is a character from all the shows and you can shout things like "Shut up Wesley!" as you kick him into an oncoming truck. The Game of the Thrones addon will be the best of all because a little person on a harley with a sword up against wolves riding little wolf bikes and umm dragons that just fly in and you have to bash their head in. It really can never get any better than that in gaming. Hundreds of dollars later you'll have the full sci-fi / fantasy collection and you'll be fine with that.
To be fair, this feel way too far from what i like(d) in Road Rash. The roads were tighter and diverse (Entering a city was always... kinda... interesting) and the enemies were hard to get rid off. And falling from your bike was a big thing, as you had to (dangerously) run back to it. Here the road is super wide, no try-your-luck crossroads, enemies are just here to be beaten repeatedly, and you just pop back on your bike when you fall. So, looks good, but not what i personally want. I'll still have to wait for an actual Road Rash successor.
I do too, but the chances of EA making another one would be as likely as Konami making Contra 5 without microtransactions, DLC, and not being turned into a mobile pachinko match 3 game.
LtnCorrsk Exactly. Road Redemption's level design isn't as daring, it's too easy (took _ages_ of whaling on a biker to get a KO on any Road Rash ever), and in my case, the gore is gratuitous - I preferred the over-the-top cartoon violence style of Road Rash, and it allowed for foe bikers to be long-lasting characters with their own charm. And running after your fallen bike really was a shining star of the game, a great way to say "you fucked up, and this is what happens when you fuck up, so don't fuck up".
Videos where Jim is having fun are the best videos. His childlike glee is like a glowing aura and brightens the day. A nice treat for me and thank god for Jim~
I remember when road rash is the only game my win98 PC could run. Well that and Westwood's red alert 1&2. And my computer makes a peculiar smell, like burning plastic and metal. Now whenever I smell that, it reminds me of games I played decades ago.
I had it same, I blew all my money on computer itself and than couldn't affort any games for a long time. Baldur's Gate and Red Alert 2 were my only PC games for pretty much year, and it was a hell of a year. Still love Red Alert 2, my most favourite game ever.
Jim please create your own biker gang and let me join pretty please..... I have a really fast BMX! We can call ourselves the Sons of Sterling or Jimmies Angels or the Hounds of Homunculi 😎😎😎🚲
Lovely to see Jim actually enjoying a game. Feels like he deserves to play some good games every now and again. Thanks for bringing a smile to my face jim :)
Mouse and keyboard is a must, the feeling of precision shooting while barreling down the road (or through the sky), each kill adding to your nitro pool creating an exhiliarting cycle of SPEED, is so fucking brilliant
Not only am I a sucker for Roguelikes, you'd be surprised how well you can transition some roguelike elements into game genres you'd never think about (kinda like mixing soy sauce & ketchup, not as bad as you'd think) the game looks like a racing game, it feels like a racing game, with the added touch of bloody combat and randomized goodness. and as a bonus, your gameplay was downright entertaining, thanks for showcasing this hidden gem.

I loved this game and the dev is really really involved and responds to loads of feedback and updates the game whenever it needs something. They even have an customer input hotline!
This is such a great game and I'm so glad I took a chance on backing it. I've always loved the old Road Rash games on the Genesis and PSX, so backing this game was a no brainer.
Love this game. 4 player splitscreen makes it perfect for hanging out with friends and you can kill each other so it gets really competitive with finding shortcuts and glitched finish line areas
It's fun watching someone experience this insanity initially. It's such a fun game and really captures the spirit of Road Rash without just being devoid of originality.
Bought this when it was first released on to steam EA. Never played it much then never installed it when I got my new pc. Glad to see all the improvements
Not gonna lie, this game looks super fun, plus as a bonus, get to actually watch a video where Jim has fun and a good time, and not just pissed off at something. Nice to see him have a break and just enjoy himself!
ye're right Jim, the switch is too goddamn tempting, this has never happened with any console before for me, but now I'm constantly like "Skyrim looks so fun on he switch, but i already have it o n PC, but it looks so cool" "Rocket league looks so cool on the switch, but I already have it on the PC, but it looks so cool", and so on for Stardew Valley, Isaac, and shovel knight, and sonic mania, and rayman legends, and thumper... and so on and so on, it's just so goddamn tempting the whole hybrid gimmick is turning into less of a gimmick and more of an actual feature to consider
Man they've really smoothed this out a load since I last played it about a year back. Gonna have to play this some more. Glad they got it finished after their studio got flooded and wrecked.
Been watching you for about a week. I like that you don't insult my intelligence by telling me how RUclips works at the end/beginning of every video. XD
I haven't had the time to get back to this game since some of the multiplayer beta a little while back, but it really was a blast. Eventually there are other game modes that just make things insane, like having all of the cars actively trying to kill you or making cars literally rain from the sky, or both at once. It's just crazy, nonsense fun.
This game is a lot of fun. :) Can't wait for when they implement online multiplayer since the campaign is playable in co-op, local only at the moment. And it feels so satisfying when you take out an enemy biker and watch his ragdoll corpse fly away, especially when you slap a C4 on their bike. XD
I should tell some stories about my biker roots. I don't have many because I was really young at the time, but there were some strange atmospheres in my formative years.
I'd be interested in watching that. I've grown up around bikes and ride one myself but, while I've had relatives that take part in the more benign clubs and meets, I've never been a part of the culture of it. I can only imagine how differently the British do things... more Triumphs, less Harleys, and probably plenty of jaunty hats.
I got this game way back when it was still in early access. I grew up playing Road Rash. So as soon as I saw something that had a good chance of reliving that feeling I got it. I'm glad I did. This turned out into a pretty good game. But damn is it hard!
Hey Jim, just a quick one really quick to get some more fun with the game: get in range of a chosen victim, then press RB. Then, head to the nearest car/wall/solid object. Watch the chaos. Laugh. Not going into too much details because the discovery of it made me laugh so much, but still, you gotta try that :p This game is a lot of fun, and it went such a long way since the early days of its Early Access. We don't have an horror story with this system for once, which is still good.
The word "rozzer" really deserves to spread abroad, to places outside the UK, Australia, and NZ (let me know if there are other locales I missed). Remember this slice of wisdom from MAD Magazine: "It's crackers to slip a rozzer the dropsy in snide". And ask your doctor about Veeblefetzer, the most trusted brand for relief of squamous Squamish sequilae.
Got it a couple of years ago when it was in EA, forgot all about it... ...Then suddenly it's finished and I keep going back for another go. Really, really fun stuff.
Just going to point out two things here. 1 - I don't usually watch Jimpressions, but this is the one time so far I did and HAD to get the game. I was compelled to, for my love of Road Rash 64. 2 - Shovel Knight is in this game. Of course he fucking is. Shovel Knight is in EVERYTHING.
This game reminds me of Full Throttle's bike fights with the dial cranked up to 20 and you know what I love Full Throttle so I am very much okay with this! Looks like a fantastic game, might pick it up sometime!
Love this Jim, with some updates and some modifiers like turbo speed and one hit kills it would be ace, oh and being able to jump on others motorcycles and bullet time and we have a winner.
I like how the rear view mirror is clearly the rear view mirror from a car, not a bike. Looks like a fun game, although I feel like I've seen all the game has to offer in 5 minutes. Road Rash was a good game back in the day but the gameplay hasn't aged very well when you consider just how much gameplay there really is to offer. I feel like they needed to take the formula and expand on it, not just give it better graphics.
Watching Jim playing a game he's genuinely enjoying is wonderful.
It honestly is!
Definitely.
Road Rash on PC was great.
The grunge music and Real Cut Scenes with the cops.
Seems like one of them Kickstarters that turned out pretty great, always a happy sight.
The developer actually posted this on an indie games subreddit the other day. Apparently he just loved the shit out of Road Rash and wanted to make a modern version.

I grew up with road rash on the Genesis as a kid. This game is right up my alley. Bought it for 20 bucks. No regrets.
This is similar to road rash how? Apart from the aesthetic it feels more like a mobile racing game.
Also the crowd source video was basically a lie and not similar to the end product at all. Just hype video.
Jim is genuinely having fun, no sarcasm or pisstaking involved ? WHO ARE YOU, IMPOSTOR ?
LOL
It's like Ride to Hell but watching it doesn't make me want to die!
I was thinking that...it looks like what Ride to Hell would've been like if it was actually a decent game.
it HAS to be made out of that crap game, surely?
Khornebrzrkr1
Not enough awkward dry humping.
-69/10 No clothed dry humping segments.

WTF, what's the point of driving a motorcycle if you can't even play card games on it?!
*ITS TIME TO DD-D-D-D-D-D-D-DUELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL*
What do you mean, whats a motorcycle? Now, lets play a childrens card game standing completely still ONNNNN TTHHHEEEEE GGGRRROOOOUUUUUNNNNDDD.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
Children's card games on motorcycles?! I thought that was a myth
CARD GAMES ON MOTORCYCLES!!!!
No lootboxes? this game never going to succeed ...
ZeDlinG67 How am i supposed to enjoy a game if i cant pay for it forever?

What will the poor birdie do without his skinner box?
I miss Road Rash...
Same here but Road Redemption is the next best thing. I've been playing it for ages during the EA period. Really fun game and runs like a charm.
To be fair, this feel way too far from what i like(d) in Road Rash.
The roads were tighter and diverse (Entering a city was always... kinda... interesting) and the enemies were hard to get rid off. And falling from your bike was a big thing, as you had to (dangerously) run back to it.

I remember when road rash is the only game my win98 PC could run.
Well that and Westwood's red alert 1&2.
And my computer makes a peculiar smell, like burning plastic and metal.
Now whenever I smell that, it reminds me of games I played decades ago.

So bad your old machine didn't explode.
haha lovely anecdote about the smell conditioning
also, are you a 4 or an 8-pole filter?
Butterworth Filter ya thats not good mate. (The smell i mean not the memorys those are fine)
If you grab the EA C&C collection, there's a fan patch over at cncnet that makes it run online on modern PCs. Pretty great
Couldn't help thinking, "But that's a CAR rear view mirror!".
Dahn except it's unrealistic in this game...
Yeah, if it was a bike's mirrors all you'd be able to see is your own elbows.
sgradone realism in a game nice meme
Background Character it's not...
joedoesracing You've never ridden a motorcycle, then.
Jim please create your own biker gang and let me join pretty please..... I have a really fast BMX! We can call ourselves the Sons of Sterling or Jimmies Angels or the Hounds of Homunculi 😎😎😎🚲
The Boglin Boys
I’ll join that.
i'll get thelatex
Chgus? Or chunky fuckas?
How about being the Skeleton Warriors?
The genuine joy at 7:17! Someone please give Jim more games that'll make him this happy!
At 10:10 he was fighting someone named 'Donnie Sexbag' nice. Now we're just missing Ninjab Ryan.
Apparently there's a DLC that lets you add your name to an NPC so everyone can see it when they play.
Lovely to see Jim actually enjoying a game. Feels like he deserves to play some good games every now and again. Thanks for bringing a smile to my face jim :)
I would play this but then there are no loot crates that cater to my Gambling addiction. 2/10
Thank GOD for Jim...turns this into a Nintendo Switch review.
LOL!
Mouse and keyboard is a must, the feeling of precision shooting while barreling down the road (or through the sky), each kill adding to your nitro pool creating an exhiliarting cycle of SPEED, is so fucking brilliant
Lol. Not only did I get a Game Stop ad on this video, but it was an ad for Shadow of War Pre Order bonuses.
I like how your voice over/narrator/Aussie helper-buddy-thing, only speaks when he's needed to.
Oh my god, so much road rash nostalgia. Must buy immediately. thank you Jim, THANK GOD FOR YOU SIR
I see this and immediately think "Akira" If this game has mod support and ever gets an Akira mod, I'm buying...
Wouldn't be surprised if those were unlovable. You could get Akira like bikes in the 64 version.
speaking of, there is a couple of bikes that look 'inspired' by Akira, but you still sit high on it like a sports bike.
It's so good to see Jim having fun with a game. It makes me happy.
Glad that you covered this!

Jim Sterling 2017~
A happy Jim playing a good game is a nice change of pace.
I loved this game and the dev is really really involved and responds to loads of feedback and updates the game whenever it needs something. They even have an customer input hotline!
This is soooo amazing! All it needs is a children's card game while on a motor cycle game mode
Wait a second, Road to Hell taught us that cycles explode when their rider is killed. I call shenanigans!
This is such a great game and I'm so glad I took a chance on backing it. I've always loved the old Road Rash games on the Genesis and PSX, so backing this game was a no brainer.
everytime jim hit the players i bit my lip everytime fuck yeah!!!

Roademption
I was gonna say red road redemption lol
Love this game. 4 player splitscreen makes it perfect for hanging out with friends and you can kill each other so it gets really competitive with finding shortcuts and glitched finish line areas
It's fun watching someone experience this insanity initially. It's such a fun game and really captures the spirit of Road Rash without just being devoid of originality.
Road Rash is one of those games that has stuck in my mind since I was a kid and yet I honestly didn't realise that many others also remember it.
8:26 "You- you get a bomb. Everyone gets a bomb!" Jim Sterling, the Oprah of bombs.
It's so rare to see Jim actually enjoying a game
Bought this when it was first released on to steam EA. Never played it much then never installed it when I got my new pc. Glad to see all the improvements

The excitement in your voice, I can taste your joy

Eventually there are other game modes that just make things insane, like having all of the cars actively trying to kill you or making cars literally rain from the sky, or both at once. EA had the rights and cancelled Road Rash into limbo. It took an indie developer to cash in on the bike-fight genre we so lovingly missed.
This game is a lot of fun. :)
Can't wait for when they implement online multiplayer since the campaign is playable in co-op, local only at the moment.
And it feels so satisfying when you take out an enemy biker and watch his ragdoll corpse fly away, especially when you slap a C4 on their bike. XD
This takes me back i remember this well the old one was part of a PS1 bundle with Road Rage/Mist and Broken Sword
I remember playing this back in 2015 at a gaming event. It was awesome.
As a guy who still plays the original Road Rash on 3DO, and is a massive fan of Burnout's "Road Rage" mode, I feel like I'm gonna love this game.
I genuinely love it when Jim likes a game.
The sound of Jim Sterling genuinely enjoying a game is life, tbh! xD
Forged in the crucible of bike meets, bike meats, and leather tassles...Jim, you are a frightening man.
Hearing Jim Sterling having fun with a game is utterly life-affirming.
After you died "Having fun? Let developer Ian Fish know" followed by a phone number i fucking lost it man hahahaha
It's nice to see you playing a game you enjoy for a change.
"Its a lot of fun to have fun with fun" Jim Sterling 2017
god damn you Jim, i told myself no more games... but this looks awesome, from a guy who LOVED road rash back in the day, hundreds of hours
I was on the fence on whether to buy this but listening to Jim's pure joy pushed me over.
Been a while since I heard you have that much fun, makes me a little happy.
These videos are roughly 340x better when you enjoy what you're playing.
I got this game way back when it was still in early access. I grew up playing Road Rash. So as soon as I saw something that had a good chance of reliving that feeling I got it. I'm glad I did. This turned out into a pretty good game. But damn is it hard!
I love how the immediately used Jims "god damn, i love this game" in their marketing. gonna need to buy this sometime. devs seem cool. :-)
good memories, played road rash quite a bit when i was a kid
Hey Jim, just a quick one really quick to get some more fun with the game: get in range of a chosen victim, then press RB. Then, head to the nearest car/wall/solid object. Watch the chaos. Laugh. Not going into too much details because the discovery of it made me laugh so much, but still, you gotta try that :p
This game is a lot of fun, and it went such a long way since the early days of its Early Access. We don't have an horror story with this system for once, which is still good.
This is the most fun I've seen jim have in a game since.... no, its just the most fun I've seen him have in a game.
"It's fun to have fun with fun!"
~Jim Fucking Sterling Son
Loved watching you play this because it really is nice to watch you have fun 🤘
So fun Jim having fun for a change.
This looks sweet.....simple, straightforward redux of Road Rash
Oh dear. You hit Officer Murphy there. Let´s hope he wont come back as a cyborg to hunt you down.
The word "rozzer" really deserves to spread abroad, to places outside the UK, Australia, and NZ (let me know if there are other locales I missed).
Remember this slice of wisdom from MAD Magazine: "It's crackers to slip a rozzer the dropsy in snide". And ask your doctor about Veeblefetzer, the most trusted brand for relief of squamous Squamish sequilae.
shrugs havent heard jim having such a good time in a long time ^^ hahah
I'm not really into racing games, but the idea of beating people as I race them makes me way more interested
Got it a couple of years ago when it was in EA, forgot all about it...
...Then suddenly it's finished and I keep going back for another go. Really, really fun stuff.
never seen Jim have this much fun in anything.. I am gonna get this..
I remember watching Jerma play this a while back, but I completely forgot this game existed. Holy shit, it looks great now!
This looks awesome! And great timing as i've been pretty addicted to Road Rash 3 recently on my phone. Sold.
8:20 This would have been the moment that sold me on the game, but I've owned it for more than a year.
I'm guessing the advert for an 8 wheel russian ATV is a result of the title. Excellent.
Been playing this in EA for a long time now, glad to see that's it's released. A really great game.
Nobody noticed the "Officer Max" at 9:38?
That was a pretty cool subtle nod to the Mad Max franchise.
Went to the release party last night held by the game devs of the game. Bunch of cool dudes
*Blooday 'ell, it's the jolly rozzers!*
So if nothing else, I enjoy that the negative space of the "D" in "Road" is a knuckleduster.
Thank you jim, i am now going to install the free copy i got and enjoy it, and all it took was 8 minutes of you having a blast.
Jim enjoying himself? Well call me a stranded salmon I got nothing to say. It's nice to see.
10:18 that's one badass winning shot
It's like the FF7 Bike race in the Gold Saucer :D
Looks good! Got a huge guggle out of the racer called 'Jill Barry.' 😆
Used to love Road Rash. This looks like good fun.
Great video Jim!
That game had the kick stand song right ❤️❤️❤️
This game reminds me of Full Throttle's bike fights with the dial cranked up to 20 and you know what I love Full Throttle so I am very much okay with this! Looks like a fantastic game, might pick it up sometime!
"Road-like elements" - I've been slayed
Glad to see it has come such a long way, hoping the Helloween reference is still in there tho
I feel like they needed to take the formula and expand on it, not just give it better graphics.
but they have expanded on it by adding the roguelike elements, online multiplayer and local coop. The guns and explosives are also new.
Give it a chance, invite a friend and do split-screen campaign. The progression system also adds a lot to replayability value.

Halfway through this video I had to go and buy the damn thing it looks like a lot of fun. Thanks Jim.
