    I'm guilty of the opposite - reaching for the chisel first and then deciding the task would've been much more efficient with the table saw or router table lol

  • @allenwc

    Another good one. I use hand tools more and more. Doing only one off items or very small runs makes hand tools more efficient. I put away my table saw a few weeks ago. Missed it briefly when I looked at a sheet of plywood I had to break down, but then ye olde Disston panel saw came to the rescue, and as a bonus, it forced me to cut the plywood with the least cuts, rather than the easiest cuts. Ended up creating far less scrap. Yesterday I got a hand cranked drill press, we”ll see how that goes over time.

    • @wortheffort
      @wortheffort  4 года назад

      Remember, the blue tape trick on plywood works with your hand saw just like your table saw. Prevents blowout.

    hi there I have a quick question
    are all chisel set's double beveled? I just got this item and so far i like it but I don't if I can use both sides, as a small test I use a flat chisel and its seems to work on both sides, I hope i'm right, any help is much appreciated please and thank you. This is the set I have, and that for the sharping stone it comes with am I supposed to wet it then use it? Or can I use it dry as well?

      phil millar without setting up a fence (and even then) you’d have a hard time making a straight dado. That tool is usually used in combination with a saw for this kind of situation.

    You must be slow setting up your router table because it literally takes me less than 2 minutes to get a bit in, set the fence and set the initial depth. That said, I think chisels are fun to use so if I'm doing something that doesn't require a chisel and time isn't an issue I might use a chisel anyway.

      Prove it! Do the exact same thing. Film it and upload a video here, showing - in real time - what you do and how fast you can do it. Otherwise, you're just another jackass full of it. I am sick and tired over all the keyboard craftsmen commenting on how bad other people are, when they cannot show ONE video of them self walking the talk.
      Prove it! I dare ya. Post a link here when you have uploaded your video, tag me in the comment - and I will give a reply worthy of the result.

      The chisel is right behind my back. The table is on a shelf in back of shop. It take more time and waste setting up the router for a few cuts. It takes about 30 seconds to cut a groove with a chisel as shown in video.
