Nothing beats a nice crisp bottom. I really enjoy these 'basic skills' videos Karl. Not only do they teach how to do things correctly and safely, they also help to correct bad habits that may have crept in over time. Good job mate. Keep up the good work. All the best.
Thank you Brian 😊 appreciate that mate.
These tutorial style videos keep getting better Karl.

Nice video Karl - I could of done with this video on Thursday when I was having a conversation about chiselling with one of my participants at work - he's one of those I know everything, I've done everything types but rapidly proves he knows very little and blamed the pine he was butchering with a 2" chisel as being rubbish when it split on his first Thor over the shoulder type blow into the grain
Haha ye people always blame the timber 🤣 that's another reason a knife line is so important. 👌
Hi Karl - another great video with really good solid advice. I like the emphasis you put on ways to control the chisel to be safe and control the cut.
When would you use a router plane for this type of work?
That base you used, is it a piece of solid wood kitchen worktop? I’ve got a nice piece of worktop I could use. And are the dog holes you’ve put into the wood?
I’ve no excuse now to not break out my Richer chisels I’ve just received recently as a retirement present 😂
Ken from Sunny ☀️ Southport
Hi Ken thank you, the router plane is great for getting the final depth on a half lap or even when trimming a tenon. Yes the piece of worktop is solid beech with dog holes in. Nice simple cheaper alternative to a solid hardwood bench.
