Hi Mitch I would just like to say hello to you and introduce myself. My name is Howard and I live in Montreal Canada my wife and I purchased two Vespas Midsomer and I fell in love with scuttering. I’m keeping the two Vespas and picking up a brand new 2024 Bergman 400 this afternoon if my wife will ever wake up and come with me, I discovered scuttering and am so happy, I did love touring so much and now will be able to go the whole family. I have two children one more ride as a passenger and the other one is 23 and the other Vespa, I will take my daughter on the back of the Bergman and my wife will be riding the Vespa as well lots of beautiful country rides that we’ve already done and looking forward to next summer it can’t come fast enough unlike you we have to endure a real winter here in Quebec. I just wanted to tell you that I’ve spent the last 24 hours furiously watching all your videos and I will be doing my own maintenance, you make it look so easy. You are such a great producer of these videos. I cannot get over it. You are so helpful. I will also buy parts from your site. Eventually I thank you again. Your production values are absolutely incredible. Your attention to detail is unmatched and you also make me laughwith your more personal videos 12th anniversary example as well as your move to Hawaii even how you appreciate the shininess of the new clutch bell you are amazing!
This is such an excellent video, you don't waste any time but also manage to be super articulate and go slow enough for complete beginners like me to understand. The followup 2 months later in the same video is really above and beyond too. Thanks for an awesome upload!
I just acquired a Low Mileage 2005 Burgman 400. I had a couple of Honda Helix scooters a few years ago and I will say that the 400 Burgman is head and shoulders above the 250 helix. I thank Mitch for his videos as I need some catching up in order to get the most from my Burgman.
Love this guy. So easy going while showing in-depth repairs. Had a 2004 400 as my 2nd bike ,now have a tmax and there is nothing in the way of Mick s video s . Peace.
Yeserday i did the same thing on my 2000 burgman 400. 18Gr DR Pulley sliders and 5 segments clutch and new belt. Nice upgrade, drives much beter and smoother and quieter now. I also smooth out the sharp edges of the varioplate this will make dr Pulley sliders last longer! Puls like crazy now ;-) no dips anymore Don't forget to spray a litle bit dry PTFE grease on te inside of the vario, varioplate and also on the the sliders. Thanks for your video's
Hi Pal I bought an burgman 400 2014 Black and I love my bike, thanks to you I get from Ebay the whole Clutch set Malossi with bell and the Sliders Dr. Pulley 21 g. Im so excited and waiting for it to install this right away. I love your channel keep going making awesome videos. You Rock!!!!
I went and put Malossi clutch with new belt. Already had Dr Pulley sliders. Yes! It lowered my RPM'S at 80 mph to 5500 rpm. Nice! Thanks for the great suggestion!
Before that change and with only the Dr Pulley sliders, how much was the RPM at 80 mph ? I just want to see how much the Fly Clutch improves or not the smoothness on high speeds
George, it dropped RPM's approx. 1100 RPM to just under 7,000. I feel my scooter runs best between 5 - 6000 rpm. I ride by myself. The Dr Pulley Sliders was good but with Malossi Clutch Assy wonderful. Can ride all day
@@almikelipscomb That's actually great news. I didn't know a Fly Clutch makes the ride so much smoother. I only thought it helps with uphills and when riding with a pillion. My Kymco X-Town 300 has a clutch with 3 shoes and Malossi makes one with 5 shoes, so I believe it will perform better. I really want to reduce RPM, since at 120 kph (which is around 75 mph) I have 7300 RPM which is a lot !!
George M. What year is your Scooter? I have clutch assy, still in the box, that I didn't realize was for a 2007 + models. Won't fit my 2005 400 and they would not take it back. My fault though, I waited a couple years before trying to tackle the job.
Greetings and many thanks for your instructional videos. Very helpful. I would like to ask for information on the 21 gram Dr Pulley sliders you installed. What was the marked improvement seen? Lower RPM at high speeds or faster acceleration from 0 mph? I am trying to determine what part numbers to order if I choose to go with 21 gram sliders.
Mitch, buddy! I just did this procedure after re watching this vid a dozen times first and learned something new I wanted to share here...maybe sticky this? If the clutch pads show lots of life on them still (like mine did), and the transmission surges just after take off (just like you say in the vid) than the issue is could be glazed pads and clutch bell. All I had to do was take some sand paper and scuff up the clutch bell and clutch pad mating surfaces for 5-10 minutes and it fixed the issue. Just needed some grippy scratches on the mating surface. $0.00 dollars spent.
Well, whenever you want to open the CVT housing, you should clean the whole thing. That means rubbing the variator, the half pulley, the clutch bell and the fly clutch shoes with sandpaper, in order to remove any glare or small metal pieces due to friction and high temperatures inside the transmission. And it is also good to take a brush and apply brake cleaner(it is the best cleaner since it evaporates fast and doesn't leave residue) inside the housing, in order to remove dirt, dust and metal pieces..
Thank goodness for your channel! Now. I have a 2006, but I always watch your vids so far only 2007+ so I know it's a little different but I always watch yours first and then see if I can get any other videos to get a little closer to exactly what I'm looking for but you explain everything point on as you're doing it!! Sorry so long and thank you again!!
Thanks for another awesome video Mitch! This has taught me a lot, and it will be a really handy guide when I’m next changing the clutch on a scooter. I didn’t know about checking them with the mirror before, so that’s really good advice. Cheers dude! 😎👍
Thankyou mitch's scooter for the two channels mrs.bergsma too. Recently i bought a burgman k7 400 and i learn a lot from you and your videos. Is so easily, optimistic and happy videos, thankyou again. I wrote from Barcelona (Spain)
Hello Luis! You're welcome! :) That's awesome you got same bike like ours!! Glad videos help you out very much!! You're welcome and please come back for more!
Hello from Scotland Mitch ! Just bought myself one of these scooters and stumbled on your videos. Great work man, can't find any of these rollers though, guess all the Burgman owners must have bought them after seeing your video 😄
HI Mitch great video. My Burgman CVT seems to rattle when under hard acceleration and the noise seems to come from the CVT area. Like a loud induction noise could that be a sign of a worn clutch or sliders? or both? Sluggish from start off and engages around 3600rpm. Any suggestions? thank you
Hi, I own a 2017 Burgman 400. Do you know if the machine and mechanics like CVT and brakes are the same as the previous models? I'd like to maintain it by myself following your very instructive video.
You help me out because mine is doing the same thing it seized and my bellhousing is definitely purple blue and yellow thanks so much you see me a lot of time
Excelente Mitch!!!! Saludos y siempre bienvenido Mitch.
Does the new setup effect torque for hill climbing ? I'm looking at buying a used 2005 400cc Burgman, it's got 20,000 miles, just wondering should I replace the belt if I do get it and what about the clutch and rollers ?
Mtch, I have watched several of your videos on scooter CVT's. Right now I do not own a scooter, but I'm looking at Burgman 200 scooters. Are there any hop up parts for the BUrgman 200? Like different weigth rollers fot the variator so it "up shift" sooner, lighter clutch springs so the clutch will engage sooner.and what ever else would help. If I buy a Burgman 200 I will be riding two up most of the time with my wife on back. We rarely go faster than 60 to 65 mph but I don't want to wait for a mile and a half to get there, if you know what mean. I don't care if I ever go past 75 or 80 and the videos say even the 200 can run 85 to 90. I just want good performance from 0 to 65. You know a lot more than I do, so what do you suggest and where can I buy the parts?
Many of the parts links are no longer working or the products are not available. What will this cost to do in parts? Are there cheaper high quality options available? Thanks
i just bought my 2009 and hear tapping on the cvt cover. is it the belt doing that? i will take apart to see. but it vibrates and bike on acceleration too. im thinking i might need to change the belt, rollers and the pads just to play it safe. but just wondering on this. will take the cover off soon to inspect.
I would suggest displaying the service limit and current wear limit when measuring a belt. I also advocate in doing a transmission service a few times per year to get the crap out of there and inspect the shoes. I measured the clutch shoes on my Honda PCX125 2015 and they are just about in service limit at 2.5mm when official limit is 2.0mm. Not bad for 40,000 miles and from factory. I bought brand new.
true. light weight roller for better acceration heavier weight roller for better top speed and relax rpm. i go for heavier weight roller , racing clutch, power grip clutch bell. goof for city , long highway and steady ride. not only that, also i have change racing ignition coil which is x2 voltage and spark very efficent and smooth.
As always, a great video Mitch. I am surprised by the 5,000 rpm at 70 mph though given that can only be down to the sliders. That is a big drop in rpm.
EuropaWill if it runs at lower rpm and higher speeds, It will definitely make difference. But I'm not sure if only sliders makes changes. This case a bit extreme.

higher engine speed means faster wear of the material in it, the same for the clutch and the variator and the belt. Sometimes higher speed is not better, but structurally sustainable machine life without additional service costs.ah ye i have an burgman x/y 1999 and still run
Hi Mitch. I tried changing the belt on my 2018 Burgman but was really struggling to get the front variator (the outer most side) fully seated on the spindle. I needed to get the belt to ‘ride up’ the variator a little. How were you able to spin your front variator so freely as mine didn’t seem to want to move hardly at all! Cheers.
Hey, on driven pulley, pull the front outer pulley up and push belt further inside then install on the bike then it will give you room to push variator all the way in on shaft to touch the spacer
Mitch, I fitted 21g Dr Pulley sliders about 4 months ago and the scooter was amazing. Really lowered the Revs and gave more top end as I’d hoped as I do a lot of highway riding to and from work. But lately on the last few rides my revs aren’t as low as they were. Approx a 1000rpm up on what they had been when first fitting the sliders. Any ideas what would cause this to suddenly change?
Hi Mitch thanks for all your videos, they are fantastic. Just one thing. Could you tell me how many newtons the nuts should be tightened to? Thank you again!!
should i go with Malossi clutch or Dr. Pulley clutch... Malossi come with the Bell and Dr. dont both i can get both for the same price way under 200.00
Hello I have a Burgman 2014 200 and I would like to know if I could use the 5 shoe clutch and a new pulley on it like the one that you used thanks for your help
Ur awesome brother.I work on sportbikes but now i changed my ways.SCOOTERS MAN.easy money. Were are u located.U gotta becareful with the aftermarket stuff.Ibonly like dr puley sliders and the roller bearing for the contra spring and stock contra or 1000 rpm for 125 or 150scooters.i like mine set up for freeways.i have a vino 125 bored to 143 a honda silverwing a kymco 200 a vespa lx 150
I. Have a trike kit on my k7 burgman just bought hitclutch and bando belt with 18g sliders. Had to buy oem torque spring and clutch bell. I hope this all improves my riding and lower rpm at highway speed. Any suggestions on slider weight to go eith would be nice? Bike weight with me on it is about 750 pounds any suggestions on trans setup would be appreciated.
Awesome video as always Mitch! I have a BMW c600 2013 model. I was worried about changing the clutch because I don't have the special compression tool to push that spring down, was it easy to press it down with your feet? Regards Brendan :D
Thanks Brendan! BMW cool!! Yeah you can use c-clamps or feet... here's video how I did it without special tool :) ruclips.net/video/ckQty3EYxFM/видео.html
Just bought my 2012 Burgman 400 and I've noticed that the revs and speedo read the same, sort of.. ie. At 60 mph revs are 6000 and at 70 they're 7000 etc. As far as I know it has standard parts. Does acceleration suffer on adding more weight to rollers?
Good morning Mitch, I'm a fan of yours and I follow your videos on the Burgman 400. I have two problems that I would like you to help me with. one of them is that when changing the rear brake pads, the other hand will be left without the hand brake and that the transmission will go out at idle, it will shake a little and make a strange noise in the clutch part. can you tell me how to fix this? congratulations on your videos, help me a lot !!!
@@MitchsScooterStuff do sliders have impact on other parts wear ? Like wearing variator faster or something else ? Sorry im new to this, and do you recomend tech fly or pulley sliders ?
Changing the entire cvt with malossi or polini also makes a big difference, acceleration is much snooter and has some gain in top speed, I have a 250cc burgman, made a video with stock cvt,put on a polini cvt and new belt, now the engine runs lower rpm at high speeds i even got better mpg Il upload a video wit before and after as soon as i finish editing
You manage to turn a scooter repair guide into performance art! Very cool and inspirational.

I wish you lived in my area... would be awesome to have you as a local Burgman mechanic!!!!!

Hi Mic, Can you place new links to the Dr Pulley sliders and Malossi clutch shoes / Bell?
Just updated in the description 👍🏼
Hello I have a Burgman 2014 200 and I would like to know if I could use the 5 shoe clutch and a new pulley on it like the one that you used thanks for your help
Hey, you could do the same way like in this video but 200 and 400 don't use same parts :( 200 parts are little smaller than 400's
Outstanding stuff Mitch!!
Does Malossi make clutches for 2007 Burgman 400? Should I buy a Dr. Pulley ? What weight of sliders or rollers should I buy? Many Thanks

Anytime!! Happy to help.... awesome!! :)
19-20g sliders would be good
Anyone tell me what part number and such for the clutch needle bearing.
I'm using 21 gram Dr. PULLEY sliders and I haven't noticed any loss in acceleration
I want to upgrade only to tech pulley rollers,is it worth ?
Yes worth it to upgrade 👍🏼
@@MitchsScooterStuff do sliders have impact on other parts wear ? Like wearing variator faster or something else ? Sorry im new to this, and do you recomend tech fly or pulley sliders ?
Wow 5k at 70mph is good nice one!!
Changing the entire cvt with malossi or polini also makes a big difference, acceleration is much snooter and has some gain in top speed,
I have a 250cc burgman, made a video with stock cvt,put on a polini cvt and new belt, now the engine runs lower rpm at high speeds i even got better mpg
Il upload a video wit before and after as soon as i finish editing
You link to the sliders takes me to the mirror.
Weird! Try again? I fixed the link
Hey Mitch what u think of the piaggio x9 500ie evolution with abs I just got my first maxi scooter was wondering if its reliable its a 2006 btw
I think x9 is pretty cool... not so big scooter with a 500cc in it. It's Piaggio like vespa... good quality :)
