Fantastic, clear explanation from the experts! Question, if you have a car that's already had a GVM upgrade done, not necessarily by Lovells, but reputably, such as TJM, Ironman, Pedders, can you just get what is needed to do the GCM upgrade done? (in Vic for example, where they are legal)
The problem with GVM and GCM upgrades is those limits are set by the manufacturer and if you modify it I would imagine the manufacturer wouldn’t give warranty to your car in the case of an issue with engine/drivetrain etc Does lovells stand by that the manufacturer warranty would be honoured? You might be able to do it “legally” I would think it’s a horrible idea to modify the limits set by the manufacturer of the car
You omitted the axle weight limits. And now that the towing weights are greater and for crew cab vehicles are st greater risk of chassis bending. Question will lovells provide equivalent new vehicle warranty if drive trsin or chasis bending occurs?
Do not know if you have heard about this... NHVR ran a large blitz for a week at Border Village. As well as the trucks, all RV's and caravans were weighed. Over 600 recreational units were weighed, and only 3 were legal!!! What does that tell you about the car and caravan / recreational industry???
Hi Derek, could you please offer a view on the new Ranger Wildtrack V6 for towing a van ATM=3500kg, Tare 2750Kg. With a conservative 500kg van payload and a GCM of 6400kg I think towing should be theoretical comfortable. do you have a view on the standard towing ability or if any upgrades should be considered ?
Hi, that combination should be fine legally and you will have about 600kg of available payload left on the car for fuel, people, luggage, bullbar, canopy etc. So, keeping car accessories to a minimum will be best to keep the overall payload for passengers & camp gear.
Hi team, I know this is a late question but how does the GCM upgrade handle when the van is not hooked up. I have a 3500 off road van but will not always have it on or a large payload in my Wildtrak. I could keep some weight in the tub if required. There is only two of us in the veh.
Hi, generally speaking the kit is firmer than the standard Ford setup. However, most owners do appreciate the greater body control and stability of the car at highway speeds. If you contact us, we may be able to organise a test drive for you!😃
yep subtract gcm from atm divide by 67, minus 45kg plus your towball weight, divide that by your mothers weight, then half that multiply x 7 divide by 3 subtract payload max by your 3rd childs weight at aged 3 then times that by your wheel size and you have your safe working weights---simple
Hi, our testing procedures follow the same international standards as the OEMs use. We did test a variety of combinations and always assume that the trailers brakes are also in good working order. There is far more to it of course and lots of other factors are taken into consideration! 😃
Excellent advice and well presented.
Thanks
Excellent explanation and poster. Thanks you!
With gvm upgrades what’s the go with axle ratings and changes? Thanks

Lovely. Now I clearly understand. Thanks
OHHHH Now i get it. Might go see if i can find a public scale, just so i know where I sit.

@@LovellsAdelaide but what about the killer in tow weights. Rear axle loads, this is what most will be overweight on regardless of gvm
How is factory Warranty affected on a new vehicle...?
These aftermarket modifications and manufacturer warranty don’t like each other.

@@LovellsAdelaide would you say Id be better off with the lighted GCM and load up the tub with gear and electric bikes.

this should be made into a sticker and be put on every new caravan along with other info
How is a GCM upgrade legal with the vehicle can hook up different trailer's, boats, caravans with different size brakes! ??
