    Now that I've had the air fryer for awhile, here is a new and improved Ginger Beef recipe! Much more simple than the original but with maximum flavour! Enjoy!

    Flo, I made this this evening and had Shao Shang wine, which I wish I could share with you, and I was totally shocked at the taste. It’s the best Asian meal I have ever had and you know I make your recipes at least 3-4 times a week so I know what I’m talking about!

    You are my kind of cook for subbing the bourbon for the cooking wine! In real life you've got to improvise and the "gourmet" cooking channels never do that.

    I made this dish today. It was delicious!!! I added green beans for the colour and it worked. I'm definitely making it again. Thank you so much for another wonderful recipe :)

    This looks so good! I just got an air fryer for Christmas and have been putting it through it's paces and learning how to use it while making some really great stuff. This will be one of my next meal in it! i also love how you update and improve your recipe for us as you discover better ways to make them. Thanks so much!!

    I never heard of Ginger Beef. Now I know why. According to Wiki, it's a Canadian Chinese dish which originated in Calgary. I'll have to make some as soon as I get some flank steak.

    That beef dish does look so delicious and I can't blame Dude for speaking so proudly of it and how you cooked it. That is a dish I would try as I do have ginger, but don't have any beef right now as I need to go shopping again. My Schwan's delivery man didn't come last week or I missed him and I have to go to the local stores looking for fresh supplies.

    Thank you for the recipe Flo! I’m not sure if you have a video for sauce substitutions yet, but I think it would be a helpful video to have on your channel. I’m always curious what is the difference between shaoxing wine, rice wine and mirin and what is the best substitutions for them since I don’t cook too much Chinese or Japanese dishes. All the best to you both and your family 💜

    Why do you use potato starch instead of corn starch to silk your meat?

    • @FloLum
      @FloLum  4 года назад

      I find the potato starch makes for crispier texture in the air fryer. So the purpose was not to silk the meat here. I still prefer to use cornstarch to velvet meat.

    Making this tonight!
    Interesting, the shortage have really driven up the meat prices, as was discussed. $18.00 for 2lbs of Flank steak!! 😢

  • @unclefreddy2009

    Any reason why you used potato starch with the beef vs just using cornstarch for both the sauce as well as the beef?

    • @FloLum
      @FloLum  4 года назад +1

      I find potato starch makes things crispier in the air fryer. I use cornstarch for the sauce as habit. Have not tried using the potato starch as a sauce thickener.

      Flo Lum I made this tonight, it was delicious, thank you! I just used the convection oven with the beef on a rack and it worked well enough!

    Idk what I did wrong but I tried the potato starch in the air fryer with your gene real tsos recipe and it didn’t turn out. I’ll have to try it again with this one. 😋💜

    • @FloLum
      @FloLum  4 года назад +1

      Hm... my guess is either too much starch or not enough oil.

    I’m just looking at this on Thursday! I have no plans for dinner and now I’m hungry. I was wondering how you would adapt this recipe for just one or two people it looks like you have enough for four portions plus rice. Any suggestions?

    • @FloLum
      @FloLum  4 года назад +2

      I’d just cut the recipe in half, John. Although it would be plenty for 2 very hungry men!

    All meat prices have gone through the roof here in my neck of the woods in Florida, plus the quality has really gone down the tubes.
    Nice recipe, but being a single retired man, that's a lot of ingredients to have on hand. most recipes I follow are too much food, even when cutting back, and I end up eating the same thing for 4 days. Oh well, not the worst problem to have now a days. :)

      Try adding a little plum sauce into the sauce mixture. I did that, and I also added some sriracha sauce, because I like a little bit of heat in my ginger beef. (Restaurants around here sometimes add a little bit of pepper flake to their ginger beef)

    Is there a benefit to using potato starch rather than cornstarch to coat beef?
