Yeah, I was thinking something similar. He never should've reclassified....Man, his dad, while he may be a good person has just made one wrong move after another with his son. But anyway, he should've just played his senior year at, as you said, Oak Hill or Montverde or IMG or any other of those basketball factories so he could learn how to play with other talented players....it was so obvious he wasn't ready for college bball last season, and another yeah of high school against top competition would've done so much for him
There 4 Legendary player's that have helped the modern game become what it is today in their own way but also have lowkey ruined basketball because people and scouts overreact trying to find replicas which will never happen. MJ, Dirk, KD, and Steph. In the last 25yrs people have been trying to find the next them and alot of draft picks have been wasted trying to do so.

the truth with Bates is that he got way too much notoriety and money early. it cut off his fire and ruined his development. He stopped pushing and became content
Bro your insight in regards to player development and the process is outer worldly. I imagine your impact on the game when it’s all said and don’t will be great!
Youth sports has become TOO MUCH of a business. Everyone trying to make business moves instead of following the CHARTED process that has been successful so many times over. This young man’s father was thinking too far ahead on a faulty strategy. Instead of letting a good thing continue to be good, he jumped in to halt the process, and recreate his own, “better” way. Which may end up being THE WORST way. And the damage could already be done. Who knows what Emoni feels about himself, about his efforts, about basketball in general.
I watched Emoni play twice his sophomore season here in Michigan, I loved his game, but he still had plenty things to improve on like using his teammates more, his mid range game and his understanding of the game. He should’ve never went to Memphis! I still think he’s gonna be a good player, but i blame his Dad for all this SMH
It’s 1000 of players like this at an early age... now with the media of today a lot of them get blown out of proportion... To put things in perspective I was ranked top 100 on Maxpreps in my sophomore year... I ended up playing JUCO Div 3....
This is crazy. Cause while I was watching this video i got an alert from ESPN that he got arrested for possesion of a firearm. Craziest downfall ive ever seen
at this rate he ain't getting there bro the worst thing is that his athelticism and measurements are sht which means he has no potential to grow as much as other athletic guys.
Went to Lincoln and I’m a Spartan fan, was glad to see him getting recognition but was ecstatic that he decided to go to Memphis instead of State. Hope he can turn things around, get his dad out his ear and get drafted, would be a huge win for lil Ypsi
I agree with all of this but the third stunt said "Supposed to be one and done" but technically he wasn't going to be eligible after one year at Memphis anyway because you have to be 19 years old and he was at Memphis while he should've been a high school senior. I don't understand these dad's creating a whole school just for their son's to play at lol. That's so stupid. As sad as it is some father's think about their own well being over their son's so they just have them making all of these crazy decisions. They expected him to dominate at Memphis because he was dunking on 5ft10 centers in high school i guess. D1 basketball is no joke. Those guys are not bums
@StuntedGrowt this was a phenomenal breakdown. Gilbert Arenas is sharp bball mind, but he poorly advised that athletic kid from Duke, as well (Cassius Stanley)

Everyone had a problem with him saying and I don't. I don't have a problem with Gilbert being a Og in the game someone that has played in the league over a decade someone who was a all-star and had Kobe Bryant respect remember he put like 66 up on Kobe Bryant so yeah I don't have problem with him talking with these youngsters getting to no them putting them on game because that what the young guys need nowadays. The problem is the league is to young we don't have a lot of veterans in the league like it was when I watched basketball in the 90s. Now with Emoni he should have stayed in High school you can't rush shit . Tracy McGrady came out of High school Class of 1997. Kobe Bryant came out of high school class of 1996 it was risky still for both they did get things going until 98-99 it took like 2 years. Dwayne Wade same thing tried to rush shit instead of going to a D-1 school small school. Just because you think you can dominate your talent no show me.
This one tricked me! I thought he actually had LeBron KD Magic like potential given how great he was at 15! I was shocked at how far he fell after freshman year at Memphis. He looked WAY better at 14/15. His dad def didn’t help him and he didn’t handle the hype well.
its almost like people are afraid to say that the man is past his prime and never ever going to be considered an all star again. the rule change and the injury both are there to stay. and regardless of if he can kind of recover, he has always and will always be terrified and terrible in the playoffs.
As a memphis fan and someone that watches him play all year for my college and I knew and heard about emoni and his crazy ass dad and his antics at games. Emoni wasn’t ready memphis doesn’t play in some super league they play in a league where your going against 3-5 year college players some maybe late second round draft picks and a lot of future over seas players, my point is he went against older guys and they understood the game at the college level better and took advantage of emoni for being to weak to guard and him getting lost on switches and letting him think taking long 3 points is a good shoot in college. Emoni was a good guy but his dad is the truth stunted growth this video should be on him, he made the prep school he took emoni out of traditional school and made his son go to college a year early while he should have been going to his senio year of high school and when you see other guys reclassified it’s because they’re physically ready and also they are joking they’re correct class. A lot top prospects play a year behind in competition in high school and aau because they’re more developed so when they say I’m graduating early and going to college it’s they’re correct class that’s all.
...the adults usually fuck up the children smh this generation with all the individual advantages are losing sight of the importance of structure, criticism and teamwork
I was lowkey sick when he hosed my Spartans and went to Memphis after verbally committing to us. I still think Bates has potential and he's from my home state so I'm still rooting for you young bull 💯
He didn't do good at all for us...lol. We were clearly a better team without him. As soon as he was benched we went on a crazy win streak and ultimately made the tournament...with him we were 9-8. I honestly don't think Izzo would put up with his dad and the we Emoni play on the ball, so it wouldn't have ever worked for y'all.
I think him predominantly turning into a scorer hurt him... In middle school he had a lot of playmaker in his game he was round 6-6 , 6-7 at the time more of a ball handler fasho he started shooting more I think they were tryna change his mentality and what he did naturally
Already getting caught up back home. Arraigned on a gun charge, the youngster needs someone like Shaq in his corner to whoop that. Here's to hoping he has the strength and hunger.
Everything fell apart when his measurements came out add that with a thin frame and sub par athleticism it was a huge turn off. I think that he could still be a good player but he won’t be anything near that Kevin Durant label that the media threw on him
Honestly like him or not Lavar ball is the best dad a highly ranked basketball playing son could have. Outside the youngest to an extent he let his boys just ball out at the public school they were at instead of shipping them early or trying to make a school for them to “succeed”. I truly believe all 3 would be in the nba if the middle son didn’t do what he did in china. Or at least hang around the wrong crowd over there. As for baits at worst case scenario he gets drafted second round because all it takes is one decent college season for him to get drafted in general. Especially at the very young age of 18, scouts just love any type of young athletes with good potential. Do i believe he can do it? Yes I do think he can if he’s willing to change his mentality. The problem is will he be able to, but like I stated before with his age he definitely has time.
Well the other difference with Lavar is he got on young LaMelo about selfishness and he lit him up about that right on camera. He also put him on a weak summer league team to push LaMelo to learn how to utilize the teammates and make them better. So he was coaching him on playing the game the right way. This is where, as it's pointed out in the video, Emoni has not been properly coached.
Emoni Bates is still 18 years old. Should he be worried about his potential already?
No , I think he'll adjust with the right system, but I think a change in mentality may benefit him too
Nah he has hella time. He could be a lottery pick still, depending on how he plays at eastern Michigan

the truth with Bates is that he got way too much notoriety and money early. it cut off his fire and ruined his development. He stopped pushing and became content
The vicarious vision of a parent smh smh. This was great Stunted you were fair in thjs. I'd love for you to do Stunted Coaches.
He'll be on the Jazz whenever he comes out of school.
Ypsilanti, Not Ann Arbor ( His HS is 1/4 mile away from me) Nice Video!
What happened at Memphis wasn't good. But he's still a kid. He has time to become great still.
He should’ve went to Michigan State, but after his SENIOR year of HS
Bro your insight in regards to player development and the process is outer worldly. I imagine your impact on the game when it’s all said and don’t will be great!
lol i watch alot of yo videos but you reached with this one now if he is at least an allstar u gotta make a growth video
I think it's time for a Lonzo Ball video 🤔
Youth sports has become TOO MUCH of a business. Everyone trying to make business moves instead of following the CHARTED process that has been successful so many times over.
This young man’s father was thinking too far ahead on a faulty strategy. Instead of letting a good thing continue to be good, he jumped in to halt the process, and recreate his own, “better” way. Which may end up being THE WORST way. And the damage could already be done.
Who knows what Emoni feels about himself, about his efforts, about basketball in general.
KIDS CAREER THAT NEVER WAS .....
never will be. His lack of development will give him a starting position with Barranquilla of the Colombian League.
He should have went to State. Tom izzo would have got him right
@@MichaelLee-pl4sh, You have a good point.
It’s 1000 of players like this at an early age... now with the media of today a lot of them get blown out of proportion... To put things in perspective I was ranked top 100 on Maxpreps in my sophomore year... I ended up playing JUCO Div 3....
Bro just got arrested as I see this video.
All the hype was too much too soon for him this process might have humbled him and he can really reach his potential now
This is crazy. Cause while I was watching this video i got an alert from ESPN that he got arrested for possesion of a firearm. Craziest downfall ive ever seen
Naw fam, let him get to the league first. He ain’t even declare yet 🤦🏾♂️
at this rate he ain't getting there bro the worst thing is that his athelticism and measurements are sht which means he has no potential to grow as much as other athletic guys.
IF
Bro called it. Bates was trash at EMU and his team lost a bunch of games and he still got drafted off the strength of his high school resume.
He’s still young don’t give up on him!!!
Nope, its over. Once that tape is out there no NBA team would touch you. Look at Gelo Ball, quit college as a bench player and can't get on a team.
@@KNByam What tape
@@CharifRocka that part
I remember when you first start doing theses videos back when we played play now on 2k20
Who here after bro got booked lmao i know yall comin to see part 1 again cuz part 2 about to be lit
Too many praises can turn into too much pressure.
Went to Lincoln and I’m a Spartan fan, was glad to see him getting recognition but was ecstatic that he decided to go to Memphis instead of State. Hope he can turn things around, get his dad out his ear and get drafted, would be a huge win for lil Ypsi
Clout is super important to making it nowadays. With him getting arrested its not a good look
His arrest stunted him.
You have to be a fool to listen to a guy who brought guns into a locker room and pointed it at a teammate who is currently serving a life sentence for murder thatvowed him money.
@@KNByam Gil is a immature goof ball why listen to him? Unless we talking basketball plays.
@@KNByam Why we bringing up personal shit that the problem I have with you guys Gilbert average 25 in the league one the most effective scores in the game at his time period. Niggas need to stay focused on the game not on a personal issue.
@@traviscarter1023 Yes great player , but advice to these young players has been pure garbage. Gilbert is pre /early youtube . During that time their was probably one or two major camps that players of Emoni caliber had to attend ABCD or Nike .
@@greggcrawford124 I mean do get me wrong I love Gilbert and he just now starting out in this zone. Now is he right all the time no but to a degree he is like what said about the Greek Freek is true. He doesn't 100% understand the game and how it played over her in the US yet he's almost there. He still can work on his IQ and add more fundamental to his game.
Hope the kid and his pops get it together. There is still time for him to turn it around and have a good/great pro career.
Stunt #4 Arrested and charged with 2 felonies.
Damn I love your channel. Love these stunted stories.
I humbly apologize for my comments about this video as emoni has been arrested n facing 2 felony charges it’s unfortunately over for him
It's crazy because his first few games he looked like he was ready...then boom, down hill..it was like he never played against good competition
This one tricked me! I thought he actually had LeBron KD Magic like potential given how great he was at 15! I was shocked at how far he fell after freshman year at Memphis. He looked WAY better at 14/15. His dad def didn’t help him and he didn’t handle the hype well.
I'm not gonna hold you sometimes I just play these videos to hear the Stunted Growth theme music. Shit really is like some soundtrack to my life
its almost like people are afraid to say that the man is past his prime and never ever going to be considered an all star again. the rule change and the injury both are there to stay. and regardless of if he can kind of recover, he has always and will always be terrified and terrible in the playoffs.
He should’ve went to Michigan State. Tom Izzo would’ve mentored him into a serious baller
Love your channel…. How about a Erick Sermon sorry wrong channel but your amazing at what you do
Fast forward to now he ballin out
Do John Salmons. Very intriguing player that played with the Bulls
He just got booked in jail for a gun charge smh. Talk about stunted growth..
...the adults usually fuck up the children smh this generation with all the individual advantages are losing sight of the importance of structure, criticism and teamwork
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
This Finna be a bangerrr
Although you’re right, I think that it would be better to feature guys that made the league only.
Ed Cota is the exception.
The intro have me all the time son 😂
He's not from Ann Arbor.
Very close, but he's from Milan, a town just South of A2.
Following the recent news after his arrest, his growth has been monumentally stunted.
If I was this kids trainer, I would make him watch film for at least an hour everyday, if his pace & decision making improves he'll be a lot better
Do one on Xavier Henry or Stevie Clark.
Already did
Wow it just got worse with Bates and the felony firearms.
Already getting caught up back home. Arraigned on a gun charge, the youngster needs someone like Shaq in his corner to whoop that. Here's to hoping he has the strength and hunger.
he’s still young asf we can’t give up on him yet
just watched this yesterday and the news today comes out smh
Everything fell apart when his measurements came out add that with a thin frame and sub par athleticism it was a huge turn off. I think that he could still be a good player but he won’t be anything near that Kevin Durant label that the media threw on him
Nobody is ever gonna be on KD’s level he’s one of one, he can be himself and still be extremely good
@@Fick45 I know Just pointing out how media keeps throwing that label around on prospects and young players
fasho shit was wild dude is 6’7 height but everything else on him is regular size
He’ll be just fine. People forget how young these kids are, hopefully he balls out and puts himself in position to go lottery.
No…..
Nah bro did u even watch the video?
Good video, I was wondering what happened.
Wow he was 6’9 in eighth grade that’s crazy & he was a problem on the court
Lavar has a big mouth and his kids would have made it without him
