How many 2nd round picks you see from Knicks/Hornets/Wizards/Kings or Rockets become rotation players on a good team. Smith problem is now, he is trying to pick his next location rather than say hey let me go here and become a better player. He could easily sign a summer league contract or even a G League deal. But he probably thinks that isn't good enough for him.
if you have Carr, Wall, and Smith Jr high school level mextapes etc on the top, where do you rates derrick rose's high school mixtape? it can't be too far behind
"Where you are drafted can make it break your career". If it wasn't being overrated/over hyped as an amateur, athleticism robbing injuries, or wrong attitude, it's almost always being drafted to the wrong situation and not getting an opportunity that ends careers prematurely. James Wiseman is having a career like that so far as the #2 overall pick. Injuries in his first and second years and then being drafted to a team in a win now mode and not getting the opportunity to develop. I'm really hoping dude doesn't end up on this channel.
Rick Carlisle stunted his career. Dennis caught 2 bad breaks in a row. He ended up playing with 2 Power forwards who like to play point guard. The coaches made him play off ball and being undersized that’s a problem smh. You can’t win if your coach is creating tension with the Star player and basically “Rondo’ing” you.
From my understanding, Luka was one of his biggest supporters. Apparently Carlisle's treatment of DSJ is what drove the wedge between Luka and Carlisle.
It’s wild that he had talent his rookie year. Lack of development is what sunk his career, he became way too predictable. I still think he can be an Eric Bledsoe type player, and it’s embarrassing to say at one point I thought he was on the same level as Ja coming out of college. I watched a scrimmage where E. Payton was making easy work out of him, and that’s where I gave up.
It was a tough situation for him to begin with he was drafted by the Mavericks in 2017 when most people thought he was going to the Knicks. He has a decent, but not great rookie season. Then Luka was drafted by the Mavs in 2018 which cause a conflict of interest due to both of them sharing the same position. The Mavs try to play him off the ball which isn't suited to his game at all. Then they trade him mid-season to The Knicks which is supposed to be his big opportunity. As a Knicks fan, myself the acquisition of Dennis was intriguing to me due to his explosiveness and athleticism, he played pretty well showing some potential. Then as time went on he ran into some problems that he ran into in Dallas. There was a logjam at his position, he wasn't a consistent shooter, plus he lacked the defense that is needed to play for Thibs. I still believe he has a lot left due to his age & talent if he could get with a team like Santonio, Memphis, or OKC they can possibly develop him into the play he has the potential to become.
I’m so afraid this might happen to Ivey playing with a ball dominate number 1 option like Cade. I really hope the make it work. The fans and the politics can kill a players confidence and potential.
Nah I think it will b good cause Ivey is more of a combo guard he just played lead guard in college cause he was the best player and ball handler on that squad Ivey is also taller than Dennis so I think he can make it work
@@Simon-pt4ox I wouldn't say all that. What killed his career was being traded after a stand out season to a team you was supposed to be the man on but the focus was defense first and could care less about offense which is main part of his game. New York fan base and media is the hardest to play for and blame had to be pointed for not winning and since he was supposed to be one of the best players he was blamed. At 21 22 he felt what got him here ain't good enough and now he's just trying to fit in instead of doing him. I feel ivey will be ok but I know our fan bases patients if him and cade don't produce in the first year together.
@@johndavis9321 I think people under rate Ivey’s shooting because of his crazy plays at the basket. He def is a combo guard and shoots well enough for it to work with Cade.
You should do Kevin Martin Next Bro 💯He was a great scorer but kind was in the same situation similar as Mike Bibby when there were too many great "Elite" 2-Guards at his position that it was hard to stand out and also undergoing surgery to repair a fracture in his right wrist getting traded to the Timberwolves
Dennis has been through a lot. He still is young and has a shot at getting back in the NBA. He may have to tweak his game and become a specialist. He should go to the Lakeshow and grind his way back.
he’s on his way up with the hornets, Charlottes defense improved by 10.7 points per 100 possessions with DSJ on the court, second in the entire league currently among players who played at least 1000 minutes 👀
I always thought he might be a Steve Francis with less handles and longer longevity, but I never expected him to be at the level Ja is currently reaching personally. But he's definitely a stunt growth.
He was just always athleticism even at NC State ppl looked at him as this great talent with raw ability who probably should have gone to a Spurs or a team that had a vet pg that would be patient with him because he lacked skill and basketball IQ and when your a hometown kid who goes to a local school your obviously not focused on developing I feel for him cusz when he was with Knicks and they were knocking him his GMA passed and hes now since been public about it but he had to hold that in while playing i imagine thats tuff on anyone

Wrong. He was not pose to be the next Ja morant. The only similarities they share is athleticism. DSJ doesn’t have the court vision, handle, change of pace, hang time/body control, floater, or finishing ability that Ja has. Nor the jumper. It’s real simple.

@@pettymurphy2243 Check out his NBA shooting splits. Yuck! This guy was the National Player of the Year in college. I was surprised by how poor his shot was.
@@buzzerbeater3350 He won/swept every award in college. And ironically, he shot better and played better than D Fox when they were both drafted by the Kings when he made it to the league. His most stunted growth to me is opportunity. He was drafted in the same year as Fox, then the Kings signed George Hill, then they signed Iman Shumpert. The Kings were guard heavy. Frank is 5'11 so the NBA are always gonna lean towards bigger guards. Frank played better in college than Devonte Graham. Only difference is Devonte went undrafted to a team that needed guard play. Devonte put up numbers in the G League and won MVP too but Kemba left and Terry went down then his number got called and he shined. Frank is good enough to be on a roster but he's 27 I believe now and there are younger more explosive guards. The Lakers could use him off the bench for sure.
I think his biggest stunt has been defense. You look around the league at the guards who aren't great shooters, they all lock up. DSJ must play defense with the same passion that he attacks the rim with
I was rooting for DS, but kinda expected a failed NBA career. Watching him at NCSU, he was given rein to just score at will, and I just recall a lot of bad decisions on the court as PG and little ability to really run a offense. But he got tons of attempts and was able to juice up his stats and loaded up highlight reels to leverage into a high draft selection.Again, not hating on DS as I wished he would have given NCSU at least one decent pro in the NBA, as of now they are only left with one possibly TJ Warren who hopefully is recovered and can be productive with the Nets.
It's a bit ironic how Mavs are now searching everywhere for another PG and a solid Center. When Luka got drafted they had DSJ and Jordan... Couldve built from there...
I love your videos but this one you had an error. Luka and Dennis Smith Jr. got along well. They're girlfriends were best friends and all four of them went shopping everyday. He met with Carlisle who promised he would give them the opportunity to learn to play together. The next night Dennis Smith Jr. almost had a triple double. He was traded the next day. It was big here in Dallas because Luka insinuated he didn't trust management.
He said he was on his way in Dallas even though he was shooting 39%. So let me revise: Stunt #1 Dennis smith jr had poor shot selection. That’s it. That’s why he failed in the NBA
There have been a bunch of guards that shot below 40% their first two years though they ended up being great. I think he just needed more time, and to be healthy.
He just need a team to believe in him. Guys like Jabari Parker, Jahill Okafor, and Dennis Smith just need a team to give them a chance and a role they can thrive in
Personally I feel like the Mavs gave up on him way too fast. Soon as they got Luka they packed him up. no hate for that, but you see that Boston didn’t get rid of Jaylen Brown as soon as they got Jayson Tatum and look at how good they got together
Do one on Donavon Mitchell. His defense was next level in college and his first year or two in the NBA. He should be better than he is and I predicted right before he was drafted and before his summer league performance, based on his Draft FX ( is that right? It slipped my mind.) tape by that guy that used to do the draft analysis for ESPN. He did it as his own RUclips channel back in the day. He got hired by the Portland Trailblazers. His name slips my mind at the moment. Anyway his video for Donavon Mitchell and his video for the number one overall pick Markelle Fultz we're virtually the same with the exception that he was shorter and a year older than Markelle Fultz and played for Rick Pitino and he jumps of both feet instead of one like Markelle Fultz. He didn't even have the confidence that he was ready for the NBA draft until he played against Chris Paul and another NBA player and he was told he was ready. But he was supposed to be better than he has been and he is more talented than he has been showing. I have that much esteem for his potential. I used to laud his potential future as an NBA player even before he was a rookie sensation as much more than it is now. But it's up to him. I see why Shaquille O'Neal challenged him now. Maybe he needs to play for Golden State Warriors so that he can be properly developed. Because the Utah Jazz development coaching failed him in my personal estimation. I don't know if he will reach his potential in New York City as a Knickerbocker. And I am a Knickerbocker fan. Maybe Miami Heat would develop him better? But he sorely needs one of the better development coaching staffs in the NBA to reach his potential. He's supposed to be better than this. Seriously. Don't get it twisted 🥨 I really love his game. But he can be much better than he has been. It's up to him and his development coaching staff. Real Talk 🦜💯💯💯
@@ethermac9015 Now to be clear about Donavon Mitchell, I personally think of him as a very good player. He can be a legitimate Superstar but he has fallen short of that so far. And I would say that since the middle of rookie year the expectation was for becoming a superstar on both sides of the court particularly with his elite measurables , which are perfect for a player his size, and to be the primary go to player on an NBA Finals team if everything were to line up. However his defense has regressed terribly. And has fallen short of leading his team to even the Western Conference Finals. Closest he came was against the Denver Nuggets a few years ago in the Bubble in Disneyland , Florida. The expectation was exponentially higher after that series that he would take the next leap to the next level of players following that and that just has not happened. Real Talk🦜💯💯💯
@@rakhunuhepptaylor2135 he’s still been the best player on a competitive playoff team his whole career. I don’t see how he could’ve fallen short of any expectations. He still averages around 30 a game in the playoffs for his career and honestly besides jrue and smart no guards play defense like that.
@@ethermac9015 Allow me to reiterate. He is a good player. I don't dispute that. Him playing defense like that would be the difference between getting to at least the conference finals. The template for a shooting guard is the Kobe Bean Bryant Mamba mentality and Michael Jeffry Jordan Black Jesus mentality. 5 championships and 6 championships respectively. They played defense. Klay Thompson played defense.3 championships. Andrew Wiggins played no defense. Minnesota Timberwolves won no championships. When Andrew Wiggins played defense he ended up with a Ring 💍 and a trophy. It's not like he is a little point guard with short arms and little hands. He has the ideal measurements for hand breadth , wingspan, arm length and lateral quickness for a guard his size. He has the physical gifts to be the defensive player of the year. It's a direct correlation between scoring on three levels and playing elite defense and winning championships. Especially with a defensive anchor ⚓ like Rudy Gobert back there. The Utah Jazz were supposed to be amongst the best defensive teams in the NBA. AND they were not. With his and Gobert's defensive talent? The tape doesn't lie. Mitchell was not giving a full effort on the side of the court. He has the talent and potential to be the defensive player of the year and he is withholding that from his team, it's a line that he has put in the sand between him and winning championships. You can't blame your other teammates for your teams failure when you are the top 3 or 4 player on the team and you have the talent and potential and you are not putting your best foot 🦶 forward. If he was doing both he would be amongst the top 5 players in the NBA. And he would At least have appeared in a conference finals if not have won an NBA Finals Championship. Smith problem is now, he is trying to pick his next location rather than say hey let me go here and become a better player. He could easily sign a summer league contract or even a G League deal. But he probably thinks that isn't good enough for him.
Man I had high hopes for his career in the beginning! His game was exciting to watch in college and some Dallas clips…
if you have Carr, Wall, and Smith Jr high school level mextapes etc on the top, where do you rates derrick rose's high school mixtape? it can't be too far behind
“Watching jr catch it off the backboard”-Cole
This was my favorite player comin out no cap prolly watched every piece of film on him shit crazy
Just came here to say he’s having a good game vs the pelicans right now
Playing at home, for his hometown team. He looks totally revitalized!!! So great to see.
@@georgekirby7150 facts bruh
Seen a post on IG about DS Jr and I was gonna come on here and request it and you already have it! 🔥
Stunt #1,2,3,4 and 5...... LUKA!!!!!!
I’m so afraid this might happen to Ivey playing with a ball dominate number 1 option like Cade. I really hope the make it work. The fans and the politics can kill a players confidence and potential.
No it’s good for him because he’s not a true point, he’s more like an undersized 2
Nah I think it will b good cause Ivey is more of a combo guard he just played lead guard in college cause he was the best player and ball handler on that squad Ivey is also taller than Dennis so I think he can make it work
Dennis smith jr. has no potential at all. His offensive and defensive tendencies and IQ are atrocious. Ivey has potential.
Rick Carlisle is definitely his biggest stunt
You should do Kevin Martin Next Bro 💯He was a great scorer but kind was in the same situation similar as Mike Bibby when there were too many great "Elite" 2-Guards at his position that it was hard to stand out and also undergoing surgery to repair a fracture in his right wrist getting traded to the Timberwolves
I like Kevin Martin a lot
Kevin Martin got paid, and played like a stud for Sacramento. Totally different scenario.
ogs remember the kevin martin rule
Hey man - dig your channel! Good work.
Glad to see Dennis able capitalize off circumstance and be back in the L playing the beautiful game.
1. If you lead with athleticism, injuries are the kiss of death
2. That 3pt%/inbetween game as a guard is EVERYTHING in the NBA
As a Mavs fan I've been really rooting for him for a long time
Yo!! He is definitely not a bust. Smith made it to the league and made millions. That’s not a bust.
👀 yo his ball is life High School mixtape was in my recommendations a couple days ago 😂
Speaking of mixtapes, whatever happened to Seventh Woods??
Excellent video
Of all the times I've been embarrassed a Knicks fan. The "We want Frank" chant by the MSG faithful is definitely on the list.
Did you do one on Seventh Wood?
Yes, but several of his vids have been taken down due to copyright strikes.
Injury been woopen his ass and bad situations..he always shows when given burn he can produce but boom, injury

I always thought he might be a Steve Francis with less handles and longer longevity, but I never expected him to be at the level Ja is currently reaching personally. But he's definitely a stunt growth.
They were comparing him to D-Rose with a better 3
@@prophecy9521 they and I are two different things I hear you though
Ja stays hurt too!
He was just always athleticism even at NC State ppl looked at him as this great talent with raw ability who probably should have gone to a Spurs or a team that had a vet pg that would be patient with him because he lacked skill and basketball IQ and when your a hometown kid who goes to a local school your obviously not focused on developing
I feel for him cusz when he was with Knicks and they were knocking him his GMA passed and hes now since been public about it but he had to hold that in while playing i imagine thats tuff on anyone
🎯
Nah, staying home for college is a good choice for legacy and getting to the league. He just got drafted to the wrong team. Imagine if he went to Duke and showed he can’t run an offense/ shoot? He would’ve been fucked lol
@@RonnyTheGamer He still would have gotten drafted if he went to a school like Duke look at his numbers and look at Trevon Duvals numbers who actually didnt get drafted DSJ was a HS legend everybody knew of his HS Tape he had a name going to a local school did nothing to help his game physically or mentally he stayed in the same place around the same ppl doing the same thing are we surprised that translated over in the NBA? You could say he got drafted to a bad situation but what about after?
The Knicks shoulda never went and got him when he ain’t wanna be here anyway .. either way I think his feelings were hurt cuz he thought he was gonna be the man then in came luka and that was that lol

Damn that's a name I ain't heard in a minute
Fun Fact thats me in the all grey nike suit at :34 LMAO great game too man dennis was the man
I used to draft Dennis in my league in 2k15 and 16 winning mvps and championships man so much talent what could have been
It’s very unfortunate. I recently saw some footage of him working out and these trainers gave him the Markelle Fultz special.. They added a hitch to his shot!

Great video once again brotha man but I think you meant 2019 instead of 1920. Just be careful and keep up the good work
One of the best HS mix tapes of all time FACTS
Could you do a stunted growth on Dontae Jones sf for MSU(Mississippi State) & a former Knick please?
I still remember when he went off in the tournament with Eric Dampier. Always seemed to be limited to slashing.
@@zeroturn7091 yeah man.. super athletic but jumper was suspect..
Fun Fact: I mistook him as Dennis *Scott*, Jr., aka the Georgia Tech and Orlando Magic star. 😐😑😕🤐
Role player
Gotta play abroad and work on that outside shot. Best of luck bro
Wrong. He was not pose to be the next Ja morant. The only similarities they share is athleticism. DSJ doesn’t have the court vision, handle, change of pace, hang time/body control, floater, or finishing ability that Ja has. Nor the jumper. It’s real simple.
Ja needs lift on his jimmy I hate his set shot lol
No comparison between dsj and ja I agree. But to watch dsj’s rookie season highlights he was scorching some games. The whole luka Dallas thing definitely ruined his confidence
A POINT GUARD THAT CANT SHOOT
poop scoop what did you think.... in a changing league when shooting was required
average handle, which meant he could get to his spot - LETS COUNT - poor defender / below average handles / cant shoot / small hands
to make matters worse Luka got drafted shortly afterwards, COFFIN got nailed shut afterwards, the under taker started humming
@@johncapo2843 it’s sad cuz his first step is lethal af. That was a huge attribute that he failed to take advantage of
Nice take bro
T-Mac stunted growth! Will be your best video yet.
Do a video on Marcus Haislip. Even Tennessee fans couldn't understand why he was drafted so high.
why are ppl so high on PURE athletic players that dont have anything else to their game
yall watching for highlights only??
You are spot on with the title I just don’t understand what happened aside from the Mavs fucking up his confidence
Shame he didn’t take off in the lg!!! Reminds me of Emanuel mudiay!! If you haven’t did a stunted on mudiay that would be a great one also!
You read my mind with this one. What about Frank Mason?
Frank Mason III, has played in the G-League and won the MVP. He has the same problem as DSJ. He can't shoot on a NBA level.
@@buzzerbeater3350 Yeah I know. He's from my city. Every team he's been on has had point guards on and when he went to Orlando he got injured.
@@pettymurphy2243 Lakers already have a guard that can't shoot. His name is Westbrook.
Send him to Miami and him get that confidence/dawg back and be in his best shape
He doesn't fit Miami
If it didn’t happen in Detroit it’s not happening. I understand all the other teams having depth, but the league figured him out real quick.
I think his biggest stunt has been defense. You look around the league at the guards who aren't great shooters, they all lock up. DSJ must play defense with the same passion that he attacks the rim with
Alot of pgs in the league including star pgs have bad defense(mainly bc they have to conserve most of their energy on offense.
@@daebak7370 "guards who aren't great shooters".. Dennis needs to compensate for his poor shooting with stops
The things me and DS jr did on NBA2K...
I remember watching his 9th grade tape and thinking "yeah my basketball career is over if this is what 9th graders are doing now" lmao.
Would love him as a back up on the Celtics💯
It's a bit ironic how Mavs are now searching everywhere for another PG and a solid Center. When Luka got drafted they had DSJ and Jordan... Couldve built from there...
Shout out to DSJ for having a better season with Charlotte. Hopefully, we'll see more of that during the 23-24 season.
T'Mac, D'Rose, Ja'Mo, D'Smith I'm noticing a theme here with a particular type of baller.
You from the Bahamas?
crazy thing is…he was a lights out 3 point shooter in highschool
Good video, I wonder what happened to Seventh Woods.
Derrick Favors video??
Yes, but several of his vids have been taken down due to copyright strikes.
Ruined by the Jazz I heard he was freak athlete at 6'10 250 but he never show it in the NBA
01:49: "that Carmelo spin" 🥶🥶🥶
Damn, seeing Dwayne bacon in that draft, reminds me of Corey Sanders… another PG I thought was gonna be in the league.
Can you do frank ntilikina
He said he was on his way in Dallas even though he was shooting 39%.
So let me revise: Stunt #1 Dennis smith jr had poor shot selection. That’s it. That’s why he failed in the NBA
There have been a bunch of guards that shot below 40% their first two years though they ended up being great. I think he just needed more time, and to be healthy.
Dallas was right all along when they chose Luka instead of him
I blame Rick Carlisle
I thought Dennis Smith jr was nice coming out of north Carolina
I want him to come to Europe! He needs a real opportunity and would be loved over here!
He just need a team to believe in him. Guys like Jabari Parker, Jahill Okafor, and Dennis Smith just need a team to give them a chance and a role they can thrive in
I just gave up on him last year. I always figured he was young enough to turn it around.
In high school, it was him, Seventh Woods, and Qwe Parker all growths were stunted.
Definitely liked this guy slot when he was drafted.
Personally I feel like the Mavs gave up on him way too fast. Soon as they got Luka they packed him up. no hate for that, but you see that Boston didn’t get rid of Jaylen Brown as soon as they got Jayson Tatum and look at how good they got together
Thing is he didn’t fit playing off ball, and with Luka that’s a no go
can you do a chris carrawell and melvin levett episode?
both were so good in 90s college basketball
24 and out the league is crazy
Does anyone know the name of the song in the background?
Think this take suffers from a little bit of recency bias. D Mitch is still a all NBA player. If anything he’s well exceeded expectations.
The playoffs are literally just one week of basketball each round. Don’t think he judged soley on last year’s performance.
He has that kind of talent on both sides of the court. Real Talk 🦜💯💯💯
@@rakhunuhepptaylor2135 where I disagree is with the defense Poteinal. MJ was 6’6, Kobe was 6’6, Andrew Wiggins is 6’7 with a 7 foot wingspan and klay thompson is 6’6.
