  • This video was made by Neil Wall, (Johnny Kilbane is my mother's "Catherine" third cousin and her father's "Brian Kilbane" second cousin.)
    John "Johnny" Patrick Kilbane (April 9, 1889 -- May 31, 1957) was a featherweight boxer in the early part of the 20th century. He held the featherweight title from 1912 to 1923, the longest period in the division's history. He was the second longest world title holder in boxing history, behind only Joe Louis.
    He was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1995
    Johnny Kilbane has relatives in Achill, County Mayo.

    my mother in law was a cousin of johnny her name is nellie joyce of mewwilin corraun her mum was rose mangan from cloughmore just returned fro the house in corraun saw the statue outside pattens lovely.she is so proud to be distantly related to him

    hi maurice just read your comment your mother inlaw must be related to my family my grandmother was bridget kilbane from saula achill she was johnny kilbane cousin my family still live in achill i also am proud to be related to johnny i have his great grandson keven o toole email in cleveland ohio if you would like to get in touch with him best wishes catherine

      Im also related, my grandmother was Mable stynes whose father Albert married Delia Kilbann in 1893 Athlone Co Rosscommon. Johnny Was in the Army he served in the British army in 1900 in India, China ,Boer war in South Africa then I1914/1918

      My family are related on my mothers side.Hi Philip. Thanks for sharing the photos. I'm familiar with a number of them so my sister must have shared them over the years.
      Irish connection? Mmm, Nanny Facey 's maiden name was Styles. Her father was
      Albert Styles who married Delia Kilbann in 1893 in Athlone in the county of Roscommon.
      I researched some of this in 2007 and haven't looked at it again.
