I love how you never make it about you and always about soap making. I don't think I've ever even seen your face. I've learn a great deal from your videos keep up the great work.
I am sending you my warmest greetings from Morocco. Every time I watch your videos and hear your voice I feel the need to make soap. Thank you for being this genereous
Stockholm tar is what I made my soap with. The shot at Tractor Supply was simply a demonstration to show where pine tar is located in the store. Many farm stores carry creosote free pine tar and I mentioned in the video that this was the one to look for if using the pine tar for soap making.
Your videos are far the best out there in you tube land. You explain and demonstrate every step in such a simple way and you don't throw out so much information as to confuse a person. I am so grateful to have found you since I have seen so many videos but I just got more confused with each one of them. My new favorite you tube channel.
Made this last week. Worried about that rapid set, I just whisked like crazy with a hand whisk and poured into mould. By the time I finished the pour (3-4 seconds) it has started to set, and look grainy. Left overnight and next day had (and still have) an oily tar slick on top! Note to self: DO stick blend, fear not about possible seizure, it can always be dolloped!! Off for a re-batch as its not going to get better by itself! Thank you so much for recipe and tutorial - Loving this site!
I have been a psoriasis sufferer for over forty years and I have found around 2% salicylic acid works well with pine tar or coal tar in soaps, ointments and shampoos. I bought my acid off ebay so I had to grind the crystals into a powder myself but I notice that the 100g of Salicylic Acid from Amazon is already powdered. As well as relieving itching it also removes loose skin particles so I would consider giving it a try.
the first time i saw someone making pine tar soap on youtube i wondered why they used their stick blender when they knew it would be really hard to clean up. thank you for showing how it should be done. i love my stick blender and wouldn't take a chance of ruining it if i didn't have to. i will try making pine tar soap now. YOUR WAY!!! the correct way! thanks again for another great lesson. i am watching and listening!!!
I was just getting ready to make my first batch of pine tar soap, and decided to look for videos to see how others made it. I am so glad I found your video or I would have not have been prepared for how quickly it traces!! That is super fast.
Lovely recipe. I buy my pine tar soap from an Amish shop near my rural home and I do like supporting this store, however I would enjoy crafting some myself as gifts.
This was a great video. I was astonished to see how fast the pine tar settled into its soapiness. It is a really attractive bar of soap and I hope will be of relief for those with the particular skin problems you described. Thank you so much. JBT....I cannot wait for the peacock swirl as those fancy fellows have always intrigued me!
OMG, Teach you are reading my mind! I have been researching pine tar because my family is plagued with skin ailments (including the dog). I will be making this one in a couple of days. Thanks for showing us how fast pine tar accelerates trace. I would have been in the kitchen crying had I tried this on my own :) And BTW you're reading my mind for next week too.
Great video Teach thank you i have too daughters with eczema and that is how my journey into started looking for a soap that would not dry the skin , i will definetly give it a try ,and your soap looks great Teach!!
psoriasis is an autoimmune issue not to be taken lightly. had your hubby seen a dr lately for it? there are always new and better meds for it all the time to help improve symptoms. unfortunately there's no cure but at least there's ways to improve the itching and irritation. the soap is one of them! good luck to your hubby.
Tessa Brayden Search "psoriasis" and RUclipsr "Lamblike." They successfully treat their psoriasis with overnight Hemp seed oil scalp mask and wash it out with liquid Castile soap. She explains all the directions and why in her video.
My dad had it so bad that there was hardly any skin left on him that was not bleeding. He used ponds cold cream and sun and salt water. I know it is harsh, but he only had it on his legs, because he used to always wear long pants, even in summer. He was part native American, I think skin issues are common after the old ways were forgotten.
wow that' is so awesome didn't know you could add that...We use to have this come out our pipes from burning tree logs during the winter but i wouldn't know how you would clean it to get all the debris out.
I've been buying the grampa's pine tar and I'm in love with the smell and lather. Its just very pricey and finding a way to make this with the smell of the pine would be awesome. So my question is how is the smell and lather. I'm assuming it doesn't leave any residue or does it?
Yes, I will, Catie. I'm going to the local pet supply store this weekend to get the Stockholm Tar - that is what it is called here; for use on horses' hooves. We used to use this soap on dogs years ago for their itchies - it was so good :)
I never add EO's to my Pine tar soap the smell of the pine is super strong and I use less in mine then you do. I don't know how you smell the EO's over it. Love your videos.
Thank you for this video I made some last week and was worried about how it looked. But after watching your video I think it is ok. I had some spots in some of the bars that were lighter and I was just wondering if it was the nature of the pine tar? Love your videos they have really helped me learn a lot! I can't wait for the soap to cure to give it a try. Pine tar is an acquired smell though.
I've been looking for a recipe for pine tar soap, but they all seem so complicated. Yours looks so easy. I'll have to try it. I have a Tractor Supply right in town, too.
Woooo that was fun, Catie. I'm going to give this a try this week - I may HP it though - we'll see. Thanks for another great video and class, enjoyed watching you xx LInda
I know this is a really old video, but it showed up in my feed… Question: looking at the recipe you showed, the oil percentages seem way off…or am I reading it wrong? Those numbers don’t add up to 100%, but rather a weird number over 220% Also, is it possible that it thickened so quickly because of the chosen oils rather than pine tar issues?? I’ve seen more recent videos where soap makers have managed to keep the batter at a light trace long enough to pour it in the mold.
something i noticed no one so far has reminded people NOT to use aluminum utensils and to keep vinegar handy! the vinegar is just in case you splash lye water on yourself, and aluminum will dissolve in lye
I so love your channel, i wanted to use pine in my soaps although i don't have the tar/essential oil, so i just went out and got some off my tree and soaked the needles and twigs in soybean oil/sunflower oils, and just wondering since it's infused for a few days can it give some basic benefits if i make the soap from the oil infusion?
Her loaf weight doesnt matter when your dealing with percent. You could have a 10 pound mold and all you need is those percentages. You just have to calculate how much your mold holds in oil. To do that: i think an easy way to do it is W x H x .42. That will give you the most OIL you can use in your mold. The water, lye and fragrance dont worry about. It will fit. Than take the oil amount and multiply by each oils %. That gives you the amount for each of your oils in your mold. Or, once you have tbe total amount of oil for your mold, plug the % intoa lye calculator and it willgive you the amounts of each.
@@grant242 The extra 3% can be considered superfat. Although its not too helpful in calculating amount for your mold unless you have a custom lye calculator like i have. But what i posted is correct. I made a calculator and i can figure percentages with it pretty fast.
you read my mind, i have been wanting to try a pine tar soap for my husband and friend who have serious eczema. What i'm wondering is how you determine how much pine tar to use. I want to use my own recipe but not sure how to incorporate the pine tar.
Would you mind giving the dementions of the mold? Perfect size for the soap! Also...the essential oils....what is the amt of each? Thank you for this...I have had so many people ask me for this soap but this is the first recipe that I truely like. Thanks! :)
Just looked at the revised total amount of oils and it totals 99%! Which oil should I be allocating the 1% that has not been calculated? (also, assuming that the cocoa butter is 11%, not 1, due to typo)
Thanks so much for this video! I thought I had to order pine tar but I think I actually have some here in my town. Have a great day and the soap looks great
hi, I try this receipe it did not trace fast for me. but I have a question, I left it 2 days in the mold because it will not get hard. finally out of the mold but very soft. what can i do? can i rebach it?
That moved real fast. Looks like it would be a nightmare in a bigger batch size. I have heard of pine tar soap for skin issues but how exactly does it help?
Why when I made this recipe mine did not harden up like yours in the bowl actually quite the opposite! I was even able to use the stick blender with it after many hours it's still "wet" ...?
can castor bean oil be substituted with something else since i can't find it where i live? ty! i really want to make this soap for my brother in law that has exzema.
Ok I'm back because I really want to try this, as my husband likes pine tar soap. You failed to mention a quantity or even identify the essential oils used. For a masculine appeal, I'd use tea tree oil with a hint of Rosemary. This conundrum is like telling someone to bake a chocolate cake and make sure not to forget the vanilla, without saying how much vanilla to use.
Love you videos!! I wanted to know if this soap would be okay to use on my 2 year old daughter who has a very bad case of eczema? I usually make oatmeal and honey soap, but I was thinking of trying something new. Thanks in advance!
I suggest you check in with your child's doctor or a dermatologist. A medical professional can tell you if it's gentle enough, because she did say pine tar is typically used for horse hooves, but might be too harsh for a baby's skin.
could you heat the soap mixture before pouring into the mold to help reduce air bubbles/ make a smoother bar? or would that denature some of the properties of the oils or pine tar?
I love how you never make it about you and always about soap making. I don't think I've ever even seen your face. I've learn a great deal from your videos keep up the great work.

If you moisten your spoon with a little olive oil while smoothing out the top, it would not stick to your spoon.
I was just getting ready to make my first batch of pine tar soap, and decided to look for videos to see how others made it. I am so glad I found your video or I would have not have been prepared for how quickly it traces!! That is super fast.
Just made a double batch!! WOW why did i wait so long it was SO EASY!! Thanks so much!!
That is the best pine tar soap video I have watched yet .....👍👍

I love this recipe and I have changed it up many times and it still turned out wonderful.
I've tried to heal my eczema for a long period, and luckily found a method. It worked for me, my pals & you, too.

I use it once a week and love the smell
I personally love the smell of pine tar AND I have major eczema. Definitely going to try a pine tar recipe.
Thank you for this recipe, my husband has battled psoriasis for years, I'm going to give this a shot.

Loved the tutorial :) that thing thickened real fast, think might make some of this. Thanks Cath ! x Mariella x
Just the normal 4 to 6 week cure time. Hope you make this soap too!
Thank you for the video, very interesting how quickly the mix moves once the pine tar is included!
Great informative video! Thank you so much!!
I'm making pine tar on my pac stove. Had to look up its use in soap. Your vid came up. Good vid. Thanks!

I made pine tar one time and it did the fast move on me too, I thought I had done something wrong , now I will give it another try.
Yes, I will, Catie. I'm going to the local pet supply store this weekend to get the Stockholm Tar - that is what it is called here; for use on horses' hooves. We used to use this soap on dogs years ago for their itchies - it was so good :)
I want to start my own soap line next year to sell on ebay. This lady is awesome.
Great lesson once again!
I got one from Turkey i love the smell it was pine tar an olive oil

stir more, often and harder
I've been looking for a recipe for pine tar soap, but they all seem so complicated. Yours looks so easy. I'll have to try it. I have a Tractor Supply right in town, too.
That soap looks super
I was in Shelby, NC today and bought some at Tractor Supply for $10.99. Sounds like your store has jacked up the price!
This was nice! Makes me wonder how many other things I can add to soap making.
Woooo that was fun, Catie. I'm going to give this a try this week - I may HP it though - we'll see. Thanks for another great video and class, enjoyed watching you xx LInda
Beautiful demo.
Thank you. Very interesting video.
Can you add tea tree oil to this as well?
Given the pine tar, you REALLY don't need to!
I use pine tar in my hair! Works good
Fantastic video..
wow, you do beautiful work!

I was surprised this was included in the oil weight. I thought is was just an additive.
what oil do you use? my great aunt Bliss always used clean lard
Please let me know how it works for you in hp.
Annnnnnd now I want fudge.
Same here. I was thinking 'ooh dark chocolate'.
I want fudge too.
Haha 😁
lol
I used 18% ppo of pine tar.
something i noticed no one so far has reminded people NOT to use aluminum utensils and to keep vinegar handy! the vinegar is just in case you splash lye water on yourself, and aluminum will dissolve in lye

If anybody is wondering, these are her percentages.
41.3% Olive
18.2% Coconut
18.2% Pine tar
11.2% Cocoa butter
11.2% Castor
But, what about the whole loaf weight? She said 2lbs right? I can't see how her percentages work out based on what is on the recipe...
Yeah that 103% threw me off

Hello.....what essential oils did you use?
Hi, i would like to make this for my nephew and myself, how long does it have to cure and is it a soft soap?
The link doesnt show where you get your pine tar.
Can you make hot process soap and add the pine tar after the cook I add super fat and other things after the cook so I just wanted to know thanks

Legends Creek Farm goat milk pine tar is off the hook in the smell is wow!!! I'm going to try this recipe though
I’m so sorry to bother you but I couldn’t find the amounts of lime and tea tree oils anywhere
Can Shea butter be substituted for the cocoa butter? I have to be very careful of certain ingredients because of dermatitis in a few forms.
I used it with no problem. Hubby can't have cocoa butter either.
Did it successfully and made a lovely smooth soap hubby really likes.
Can you use this on your scalp?
yes helps with dandruff :)

Is this recipe 5% super fat? When I added this to soap calc, the lye and water aren't coming out correctly.
You can do it!
I might have missed it but what is the superfatting level for this? My forms are different in volume and need to calculate it. Thanks
