Then stopped taking pictures when I started flying but coming back right now with the focus on aviation & travel videography 😊 Thanks for the share & best regards from FRA 🤗
It was really cool of you to make this video since i felt like i related to most of your points and since nobody really knew what planespotting was. Ive always had a passion for aviation but only recently delved into planespotting and the aviation enthusiast community in my local area. It’s now my main and probably my only hobby so I’m able to put a lot of time into it which is what it takes depending on what type of spotter you are. To your other point, it’s definitely a nerdy/geeky aspect of me so not really the best talking point in a conversation with a non-avgeek lol. I really admire the quality of your content and it in part has inspired me to share my own aviation/planespotting content on my own channel. Also, it’s nice to see a fellow Asian in the aviation community. Hope to cross paths with you some day in the aviation world. Cheers.
Glad you were able to connect with many of the points I made! Hopefully you won't be shy about sharing your passion - a lot of people actually find it very cool! I'm sure we'll bump into each other one day! Cheers man!

As a aviation spotter in China just like you,i have to say there's no reason why i always go to the airport,we just enjoy the roar of engines,we love watching the landing and take off.Wish you can do well

This is a Fantastic Video Alvin, I totally agree with the points in the video! And waking up at 4am for me at one point to catch a plane is so relatable.
Great video. I've always been thinking of becoming a plane spotter for a very long time as an avgeek. I'm starting to think about making it my hobby from now, and there are 2 questions I would like to have an answer on. 1. What camera do you recommend me? I'm not an expert when it comes to cameras yet... Because I'm very young. I'm thinking of getting a Nikon p1000. What are your thoughts on it? 2. Is there a way I can make money out of plane spotting? If not, where and how can I get myself popular within the plane spotting community, and where can I get my photos displayed to public? Those were the 2 questions I had. I'm here at 2024, pretty late to this video. So chances that you will read my comment is low, but if you do read this, I would appreciate a response. It would mean a lot to me.
Hey! Let me try to answer your questions: 1. The Nikon P1000 is a great planespotting camera to start out with, for a few reasons. It is budget friendly, and it has built in optical zoom up to 3000mm which means you don't worry have to worry about getting different lenses. You can shoot any distance with it. I recommend it! 2. It is possible to make money out of planespotting once you have developed the skillset and built up your portfolio, but it shouldn't be your first goal while getting into this hobby. You should aim to enjoy it and develop your photography and planespotting skills - making money out of it should be a nice bonus on the side. Once you get the camera, I would recommend going out to planespot and learn your camera, learn photography basics, learn editing in lightroom or photoshop. Create a profile on something like Instagram to share your photos. Engage with other avgeeks in the community. Over time you will build relationships and friendships in the community who will help you grow as a photographer and planespotter. Don't worry too much about the follower count or likes, just focus on sharing your best work and improving. Eventually as you get better and better, you can start uploading your photos to professional aviation photographer websites like AirTeamImages, or reach out directly to magazines or publications that may be willing to feature your photos in print or online. Hope that helps. Best of luck, and welcome to the planespotting community!
@@onemoreweektogo wow, a reply in less than 24 hours! First of all, thank you for replying as well as the heartwarming welcoming into this community. I can't agree with you more on your response to my second question. And certainly, your response to my first question as well. Nikon p1000 sure does have a legendary zoom range, making plane spotting possible in almost any location in the world. And for the money making part... It is true that making money from this shouldn't be my main goal. The main goal for this and any other hobbies is to have fun. I intent to start my Instagram after I get my camera for my birthday. Hi Alvin, I like your channel and I just got my new Sony a7rv . Also I got the Lens 200-600 but is huge to carry every time. Can you give me an advise between the 100-400 or the 70-200.. I like the aviation photography but also when they are approaching to the airport. So, sometimes I just need to take the lens faster from my bag.. thank you!
Hey Harold, it depends on the locations you'll be spotting in mostly. Do you have any spots that are very close to the airplane? If so, I would say the 70-200 makes more sense, since you'll be covering a focal range you currently don't have with the 200-600. But if you want to have a very versatile lens you can use on your travels, maybe the 100-400 might be better.
@@onemoreweektogo Well, more or less I’m around about 3-4 miles from the target. That should be enough or maybe is necessary the teleconverter? Thank you!

I'm sure you can still get some amazing results with that gear!
Loved the story! I am 100% gonna start plane spotting (like real life not online) when I get my car. From now I just do online plane spottings, are those good?
Thank you! Hope you get your car soon then! How does online plane spotting work? I’ve never done that!
@@onemoreweektogo Oh! Online plane spotting is where you take a flight simulator, (lets say Microsoft Flight Simulator or Project Flight Roblox) and you go to an airport in the game then start screen recording peoples landings or takeoffs. then the editing process is probably the same
Loved the video…. Hoping to grow my channel. Currently looking to update to a mirrorless ….. Boy that’s confusing…..
Hope you will come back to Zurich soon
Definitely want to as soon as I can!
This is amazing
what kind of microphone that you use to enhance the plane engine sound and get rid of the wind sound disturbance?
You can use any directional microphone that mounts onto the hotshoe of your camera. Make sure it includes a deadcat to eliminate any wind noise.
Nice Video!
Cheers Brodie!
Fantastic video!
Thanks Jeff!
Hi, I'm a Highschool Aviations Lover from Hong Kong, thank you for introducing a great Hobbie for all the Aviation Lovers, well, I want to be a Aviation Spotter and also my dream job also want to join Aviation jobs, my most favorite Aviation job is pilot
Just wondering what a good starting camera is to get into planespotting in 2023?
It will be fantastic if you could elaborate how the plane spotters getting rewarded for their daily living expenses.. I will obviously watch the video.. Cheers
I probably did too much spotting cuz I’m getting bored going up there now lol
Probably my next spotting is from the gate n inside the flight.
My a geek started right after I was born lol Took my first flight on the JAL 747 when I was 2 months old lolol
Haha there are plenty of other spots around YVR. Gate spotting is great too!
Thank you!
Nice video... feel free to be my guest if you ever come to the SANICOLE AIR SHOW in Belgium.
Can you activate the vivid mode with planespotting set Picture Control because the colors are pushed out better
What is a good budget 300-400 dollar camera for taking pictures of planes? I really want to get into this.
What an awesome video Alvin. Love watching videos like this. Waiting for more videos from you! 🙌
Thank you Christian! Glad you enjoyed it, it's a new style of videos on my channel! I'll be releasing another one soon!
