The subspecies actually serve a really important purpose: create more elementally weak monsters. In the base game, there were basically no monsters that were weak to water that were worth hunting. So what does SB do? Make three subspecies to fill that niche.
Could they have done it better, with more varied monsters? Maybe. At least I think some of the subspecies are more fun than their base forms.
I think the "monsters are evil" thing was cause of the Yokai theme they were going for which there are definitely sinister Yokai out there but I do under stay how weird that feels since most of the fanbase has always just seen them as just big animals just thriving on instinct and experience.
But even then there are benevolent Yokai. And good ones or neutral ones, sometimes the same species goes either way, Tetranadon has kappa roots, which are sometimes harmless tricksters who may even be helpful and sometimes shove their arms up your are and rip out your colon.
I can't remember the specific yokai but there one that some of which are litterslly Kami (basically gods) who are worshipped and do good, while others are territorial murderers.
@@Brex10 kinda like how fatalis is a evil dragon
@@macvadda2318 I don't see how that's all that relevant but yeah, Fatalis is evil. Congrats you pointed out the obvious.
@@Brex10 I mean sure there are good Yokais but base Rise is clearly based on the Night Parade of one hundred demons and Sunbreak is based on classic horror monsters. I don't see them harm in them for one game playing up that "Monster Slayer" stereotype over the more normal cultural hunting the rest of the series is. Gives Rise a unique identity with the intros being almost like an old horror movie.
@@MidnightClip true,
But "bloodlust incarnate" Arzuros is still hilariously stupid.
Hearing a complaint about the Hunters talking is certainly new, cause I just turned it off and that's it. As for the cutscenes portraying the monsters as evil, I found it more funny when something like Arzuros is called "Bloodlust Incarnate".
I turned the talking down during my playthrough and then realized how often the hunter tells you about an attack. Now most of the time the players warns of an incoming attack, the monster is very visibly going for said attack but there are moments where it is overbearing in giving you intel to easily.
Yeah some of the stuff said is funny but most of the lines seem to be from someone who is hunting for sport, much less the hunting for a living and being the hero that 5th keeps propping players up to be. I just find most instances distasteful.
@@lijahgil I mean that's what the hunters are. If you look at the quest requesters most of them are about getting birthday presents, researching, and tropies. There are rare ones like someone dying , or a monster blocking a major porting road. But most of the time monsters are hunted for really stupid reasons
@@notimeforcreativenamesjust3034 Thank you for correcting me. I would change my statement to there is little respect or reverence. The goal of maintaining balance weather it be between hunters and monsters or caring for the ecosystem. I think that the hunter speaking takes this past the line. 5th Gen had made the player the hero and center of the village, I would just like to be portrayed and seen as a skilled hunter.
Its nice being the hero of Kamura or the Sapphire star, but I'd like to just be a single piece to the village's entire puzzle. While we get see other in action and now even hunt with them, but it still feels like MH would be screwed without the player.
@@lijahgil haha not always, the hunter are bounty hunter too
@@notimeforcreativenamesjust3034 Haha I totally agree. The dango chef girl really had me capture a somnacanth so she could butcher it for a new dango recipe. Savage chick, lol.
Ngl I was pleasantly surprised when I played through sunbreak. Way better than rise and now makes the game feel complete along with an actual endgame with more afflicted monsters to come.
Definitely 9/10. Not 10/10 because of the gunlance shelling levels
Rip gunlance mains always getting shafted. They even dropped the rath gl from 8-7 Going up a rarity 🤣🤦♂️
With the QOL wall running, there is an option that disables it during a fight.
I feel for Sunbreak exactly how I did about iceborne, just a complete upgrade over the qualms the base game had and while neither were perfect, my favorite mainline and portable games ESPECIALLY after the title updates with iceborne. With how massive Sunbreak’s first title update was, it may even become my favorite monster hunter overall.
except that Iceborne mandatory clutch claw because they increase the monster hp too much
Ragna Kadaki is one of the best monsters in the game wtf
Yeah well yknow that’s just like… your opinion man
I agree Rakna is awesome
For me the "monster are evil" thing seems logic cause it is not like other recent monster hunter games in the case of rise those same monster nearly wiped out the village so for me it seems logic that they are portrayed as evil. (sorry for my bad English it's not my native language)
They wipe out villages by chance not evil intent. They were always portrayed as natural creatures with insane power that might run over you or your village trying to chase other prey.
Peak Ginge, please go into your wall running settings and look through all the options. There is an option for autowallrun always EXCEPT for when in combat. It's the way to go.
I think what makes the new subspecies even more disappointing is the lack of variety. We got Aurora Somnacanth, which uses ice as it's main form of attack, and then we got three new subspecies that have a new colour scheme of black and orange and now have alot of fire attacks. And let's be honest, the new moves that Pyre Rakna-Kadaki got could've easily just been added to base Rakna-Kadaki. Here's hoping any new variants we get in the title updates are a little more creative
Also, you can change the settings for the new wall-running to not be used while in combat. That way you can enjoy the smoother transitions without getting yourself carted in a hunt. Hope that helps.
Still love the implications of the “I’ll see you in hell!” comment
Bussin review and i gotta say your sense of drip is on point my guy!
Hot damn this is exactly what I am looking for. I hope I will decide if I buy it or not based on your vid!
Also the lead up to gaismagorm pog quest
Yo Ginge how do you get that coat thing you were wearing? The video was really well formatted and I like how you went over the new map I thought it was a little small too so it's nice to know I"m no the only one lol.
Glad you enjoyed the video! If you mean the pirate outfit with the coat over the shoulders, it’s just one of the hidden armour sets I think it’s called Barbania Set or something there should be a guide online 👍
Another banger Ginge video. This a really good review and I hope it will convince my freinds to buy it
I don't see your point with Rise base. They're supposed to be evil monsters menacing the local villages, not just big animals. The ways in which world tries to explain that you kill them to have a "balance with nature" makes no sense and sometimes even is very stupid
yea because they turn out the one that messing it up by killing the monster
Almost 100h in and I never even noticed the hunters were talking
I agree on your official review of Rise. I much more enjoy Iceborne and Generations Ultimate. Mainly because World was my first game and then Iceborne came out and I absolutely love it, good blend of difficulty and fun, but not quite there yet. Generations Ultimate got me good because it had cool skills and great monsters. Then again I haven't fully experienced Rises skills but overall so far they've felt just less. Overall, Rise felt like an arcade where the point to playing was an adrenaline high of constant beatdowns on monsters which I don't quite enjoy since it never felt challenging. Still fun because it's an arcade, but I just like challenge more.
I agree with the monster implication for them being evil, i prefer them based on instinct
Shogun Crabby fucks and looks weird
There's so much more content than compared to the base game
love scornny maggy boi
I've used the switch dodge quite often and I can say that the bowgun skill all seem balanced compared to a few others.
Btw I think something of note for base Rise is that it was a fun game for those just getting into the Monster Hunter franchise. Even more so compared to World, which was a bit hard for a newbie like I was if I'm being honest. I didn't know much about MH and didn't really understand the best ways to use most of the weapons.
Also how and why is it a good thing to lose and thus lose out on the parts to make more gear? It was the thing that frustrated me the most.
tfw remembers surge slash combo was gen1 GS gameplay
i don't think the game is saying the monster's are evil, but the villagers, i think the haikus are from the villagers pov.
Late here, but same thought. The whole first part of the story of base Rise was telling the player how the villagers resent the events of the last Rampage. And knowing that it's a recurring phenomenon on that region, I think it's understandable that their perception of those creatures is equally spiteful.
On the other hand, Sunbreak's introductions don't hold much if any spite and seem to just give the new roster some sort of contextualization of their behavior or traits, with the most notable exceptions being Gaismagorm and Malzeno, which fits due to the fact that they have some deep connections with Elgado.

You mean spoiler-heavy?
I always took it as the human culture to just believe themselves to be right and that monsters aren’t just animals in an ecosystem but actual monsters with intentions and a hatred for mankind, which the humans probably cultivated anyway.
The wyverians have always been a more druidlike ‘balance with nature’ culture, even since the beginning, but even they know that the hunting of certain monsters is necessary.
Also, monster parts are literally the entire economy/building material market for most cultures, at least in the earlier titles, they’re creeping more into steampunky kinda stuff more recently
My biggest complaint of sunbreak is, the switch skill they add for the weapons I main, and the whole concept of scroll swapping. I just have the same load out because there no point of having anything else. What they add to the HBG,LS, and Lance I don't really like at all. All the new switch skills for HBG are virtually pointless. Setting sun is amazing when it works, forcing the hunter to stay stationary in a G rank expansion goes as well as you think. Falling moon( I think that what it call) extends the rang of other ammo types, if you play any bowgun then you understand this is pointless and faces the same problem of being force to be stationary. Capcom was so scared of crouching shot that they made it so weak that is pathetic compare to it former self in gu. The only thing lance got was gaurd dash. The silkbind skill we to do a back hop and sheath your weapon is pointless because when you get hit you can just wired fall to safety. The haven pericer has to much animation commitment for mediocre damage . Though the increase the timing of parrying shield so that a pluse. I main the hell out of LS but I hate what they did to it. The nerf how I want to play it in the 5 gen. Just to make all the LS go and use the new skill on the block. Making most LS player just spam the silkbind move that gives you an spirt level and use sacred sheath. Then they nerf the ISS counter damage by 50%, cooldown on helmbreaker, and the motion value of it too. Focus you to stay in a circle, yes is a big circle but the monster easy just leap or dash around the edges of harvest moon and you set there waiting to play the game or say fuck it and just go out and fight, and making this play style impossible in online play. Sunbreak did nothing but let my favorite weapon just be left out big time with all the new cool shit the others weapon got(yes LS got cool new move but I don't like playing that ways, It just brain dead compare know the monster move set and counter there ever move. That take a lot of time to get down ). They the end games is now going to be me gambling my soul to get the skill I want on my augmented armor then hope I get a decent tails man. I love what sunbreak brought to the table but it just did my favorite weapons dirty. When rise first cam out I bout 150ish in the first week. Compare to I beat sunbreak story ( did all the quest I could before the credits roll) and did not touch for around two weeks. It just not fun as it should have been. The story an characters were superb and can't wait to see what they do in the 6 gen.
A5 does exist, but it's a pain to unlock
A bigger pain to complete
Gore Magala evolved into Shagaru Magala
Review: Its Good. 👍
3:59 oh come on that ecology intro was clearly a joke 😔
All the intros seem like jokes, especially when watching in English. The announcer was hamming it up with that "ominous poetry" portraying the monsters. I skipped most of them tbh, but the few I did watch just made me laugh with how silly it ended up coming across. Maybe that was the intent, though.
God dammit the frickin crabs man. I recently got a switch to play Sunbreak and when I eventually got through village and high rank, to learn my first MR Master would be dymo? I was shell shocked 🥸 For players who never faced Dymo before I'm sure it was the perfect introduction to sunbreak so I get it. I will say later on Dymo grew on me, we together have managed to jump and kill over 15 different monsters(mounted final jump for Dyno does hella damage)
I thought im the only one who dislikes rampages. If I want to play tower defender i play FF crystal defender on my psp XD
“Fix” as if it was broken
Rampage was so bad yeah. Also the game is extremely easy; you just can't die.
Don't know why they are going the route of a mobile game in the future but I won't be touching that one. Monster Hunter shouldn't ever devolve into a phone game.
I'd have to play rise again to be able to do sunbreak and that's never going to happen. I hate rise and I hate wirebug and silkbinds, not to mention they fkd my weapon and I hate them for it
If I had to use 1 word to describe Rise/sunbreak
Disappointing
Nothing special or good
At this point just waiting until the next mainline MH and hope it keeps nothing of the rise mechanics
Cringe, hunting helpers are glorious
The game is absolutely fantastic but okay
The depth of combat is so good though take out wirefall but keep silk binds(won't happen).
Keep palamute
Keep unique weapons and armors
More diverse roster world lacked variety need more spiders insects etc hoping narjala and seltas queen return in an update or the next title.
Will be severely disappointed if they don't at least keep palamutes and the weapon armor designs in the next home console title.
Oh and if they do forced cutscenes again Imma cry.
Honestly if the next couple title updates are as good as this one it might become my favourite MH.
@@therealbalto24
I Agree with the unique weapons and roster but those are not rise/sunbreak mechanics they are more a return to old form
But I do not like the silk bind moves in the same way I didn’t like arts in XX
I find they get in the way and turn MH into more of an action game not MH anymore
If they keep palas I’m cool with it but if not it won’t make much of a difference to me as I don’t use them
As for the “new” monsters there is honestly not one that I want to see again they are so over design that turns back around to boring
@@sonofthefakegod yes I I know it's a return to form I've played since 4u. I'm saying i want those features to stay and not have that crap bone/iron design from world.
Mh is an action game though? Always has been.
Silk binds add another layer of depth which personally I really like.
Hunter arts were cool aswell but there was no thought to them just build up the bar then use them.
Silkbinds make you think about their use. Do i use this skill now? Do I wait and have both available for a counter etc. But you shouldn't worry much they won't implement them in the next home console game anyway.
