I found your channel this evening, March 2022. You are completely delightful. Clear instructions, cheerful personality, beautiful showroom, and, you remind me of Winnie Cooper. I look forward to more videos from you.
Great reminder of embroidery stitches learnt years ago, and nearly forgotten. Just taking up again hoping to impress my grand children. Thanks for the lessons, beautifully presented, from me in England.
I've watched several hundred youtube tutorials on everything from crocheting and knitting to makeup and hair. Your videos are among the best!! You are really good at encouraging your viewers and making it simple. Thank you SO much for your videos. Keep on stitching! :D
It is so important to keep the video constantly, at all times on the work you are doing. Reason why...to build our confidence, that I'm able to do what you do...this is SO important. It would also help us/me, if you showed us the back side of the work, because that shows me how the stitch is created to keep my work ongoing....this is another confidence booster. The creation of the stitches, depends on the backside and front side.
I have just made my second patchwork quilt, and am giving it to a friend with new twins. I have watched your U-tube helpful information for learning basic embroidery as I wish to embroider their names and date of birth in one corner. This video has half enormously, and I am now about to start my first embroidery in many years.
Very easy & simple tutorial to understand for a beginner. I love the examples of stitches made ahead and then the actual making of the stitch. I am very excited to start my first project...but first I'm going shopping for my tools!
This is probably the best video tutorial I have ever seen. You took your time and made a well organized, precise and interesting presentation with the emphasis on helping your viewer to understand the what, why and how of each step and each product. This is excellent. Thank you.
Wow, that is what I call a nice background!!!!! Loved you teaching. I haven't embroidered in a looong time., and it was good to refresh the stitches. Thank you.
Thank you I enjoy this my mom tried teaching me when I was a child, I found it difficult, you made it easy thank you again can't wait to see what I can do
Thank you for this. My urna’s embroidery has been falling apart and I didn’t know what stitch it was or how to make it. Turns out it is a stem stitch as near as I can tell. Now I can make my repairs!
I think mine fell apart because it appears to have been pressed at too high a temperature. The embroidery on the other half of the urna has been doing fine. Just watch your temperatures for drying and ironing, and it should last quite some time. I have some embroidered handkerchiefs that have held up over 25 years at least.
going across helps the integrity of the medium you're stitching through. if you go right next to it, it's very easy to tear the stitch through your fabric. if you go back across, you're more likely to keep your threads in the fabric.
Thankyou for this video. You outlined everything very well and it was clear and easy to follow. I can't wait to go out and start my own embroidery project.
Fantastic video. Really helped me and made me feel more confident to try. Thank you. Also You look as happy and excited as I feel when I'm being creative! ☆
Excellent as I will be making a luxury crazy quilt out of all my favourite silk, wool, velvet clothing that no longer fit me. I then intend to embroider all of our life experiences into it. Wish me luck as this will be my first quilt
+bloodrebel1 Thanks for the support. I have started by dismantling about 12 + outfits, also have supplemented with silk ties bought at Op shops whilst on holidays in the USA. It is essential that I pre prepare all my material supplies first but find I am 'winging it' as I go along, and doing lots of research. I have also started a private blog to track my progress as I have allocated 2 afternoons a week, and each night to the actual physical side of the quilt.
Your video is very helpful. I will start by saying I am a man. My Mother and Grandmother both embroidered as far back as I can remember (I turn 64 in December.) There were 5 of us kids 3 boys and 2 girls. My Mom tried to teach all of us but only my next younger brother and myself ever did anything with it. It has been quite a few years since since I have done anything with it. When my mom passed away I inherited her hand painted wooden bucket that she kept all her things in. I went through it to see if there were any unfinished pieces but there weren't any and it got to the side. My brother had kept up with it. He passed away in August. I got his things. There was set of 2 doilies and a dresser runner. The runner was not complete and when my oldest sister gave his things she informed me that he was making that for her for their anniversary. So now I have gotten back into it have to say there is a lot I am kind of rusty on. It's coming back but your video is very helpful. The one question I have is which ehd of the thread do you use. Sounds funny but mom always told us that putting the needle in one end verses the other makes it much less likely to tangle as you use it. I want to say that she said put the needle in the end of the floss comes off of the skein before it is cut. Any thoughts on this? And by the way my wife noticed that I am more relaxed since I got back into it.
I have completed the knitted “sheep blankie” and find myself apprehensive as I look at one of the last steps: EMBROIDERY The last time I embroidered was in grade 8 Home Economics. Only the legs, tail, ears and face need doing but it’s still a little daunting as the sheep stand out as the cutest feature. Any tips when embroidering on knitted pieces? Cheers Susan 🐾 This video has eased my fear
Thank you found this video very interesting I learned to embroidery when I was young by my grandmother and at school I Love it! Thank you for sharing just Subscribed to your channel...
FYI-The DMC site you described at the end of the video, has expired on 2/18/19 pending renewal. Would love to see and watch more designs with the DMC threads for ideas on my crazy quilt blocks
Great tutorials! I've gotten to where I enjoy stitching with perle cotton more than standard 6-strand floss. And to fill large areas, I love to use the really thick size 3 perle floss sometimes.
thank you soooooo much! I am also beginning to start and trying to teach myself, thank you for the very easy to understand information. Do you have a whole tutorial for making a whole project? I have gotten a bunch of books, but the wording is so confusing. I don't know the "lingo" yet. lol Thanx again!
I have a question after watching through this wonderful video: I pay attention to the quality of my stitches in the front, like everyone else, but (1) how do you cover up the back? and (2) do you tie a knot at the beginning and the end in the back?
i tie a small knot in the beginning and a small knot at the end. there are other ways but i find this the best way. to keep it neat in the back, end and knot and move to the next area, instead of reaching over with the thread. It takes longer but it makes it easier. also, don't go crazy about the back if you are just beginning. try to keep it neat but focus much much more on the evenness of your stiches. Good luck to you.
How many pieces of floss do you have through your needle for the satin stitch? It looks like the full 6 but I am not to sure. Great video by the way. I don't see much wrong with the quality. Anyways a quick response would be great as I am about to start a project tomorrow. Thanks in advance.
She’s using a Purl Cotton that’s non-divisible. They come commonly in the US in 5 & 3, I think. There may be more sizes in the skeins (an 8?). They are made with two twists of threads that are wrapped tightly and give off a lot of sheen
PS do you usually work close to your body, moving away as you progress, or is this done for the camera. Knowing that will help decide how I should hold my own project.
I might have missed it, but I didn't see an explanation for the paper/fabric under the material. Are we supposed to use that to stabilize as we work? How do you get it back off after you are done?
How did they make a paper frame & cloth holders? Looks like a great option for teaching group of children instead of investing & storing a bunch of hoops.
You are completely correct I had those thoughts myself and although there are other tutorials on RUclips none of them are as simplistic as this tutorial.
excellent video. There are many more people who could learn a lot on presentation from you. No shouting, no unnecessary talking, having all the tools and items you will use ready and working and my pet hate...no awful music over the top. Beautiful rings too, by the way.
🌎❤️🕊😊 😊Hello! Thank You So Much For Sharing Your Skills ! This Is My First Time Watching You On RUclips Video. Your Video Is Awesome! I Hope You Will Makes More Video.
If I use the satin stitch, do I need to do a running stitch or something first to outline my letters? Also, how do you end it? Just a regular knot in the back?
On this last stitch where you're piercing the previous stitch you have multiple threads. How many threads do you use? It looks thicker. Am I wrong? I'm just starting and when I take the skeen apart it's just single individual threads. I'm not sure how many threads I'm supposed to be using. All of them at once or one at a time. Sorry for the stupid question.
I'm a right-handed person and I've already watched several embroidery videos. The camera perspective makes everyone appear to be left-handed! Makes me crazy!
I have stitched a very large cross-stitch of a Indian maiden which has beading on it plus suede frig on the dress the instructions are not too clear, any solutions on how to apply the suede , plus should piece be washed before or after beading & fringing
Do you always have to use all 6 strands of floss/thread? when do you use less strands or more strands? Does every stitch need/use/ requires different number of strands?
lizbz I guess it's called the chain stitch. Just learned it from my mom when I was young (who learned it from her mom, etc) and never looked up the name before :)
DMC needs to come out with a hard bobbin to which the pre-printed ### will stick. After some time, those little adhesive labels detach from the hard white bobbins DMC sell.
Thank yew so much this really help trust me i thought that i wud of gave up buh u let meh feel like i wanted tuu sew all day long! :) once again i thank yew
My mom who was raised during the depression years had always taught me that the one length of thread was or could be divided into a set of 2 three threads each. As there’s never enough money to buy expensive enough thread when you can buy food for 5 children as a single mom. And personally I still find it very expensive to buy anything other than the bland solid colors.
No, you don't need to do running stitches to outline, but you soon find that doing outlining results in better satin stitches. To end you might use various kinds of knots, used in embroidery or sewing techniques, but a simple knot might just do. You can also make several small backstitches to finish it.
I really enjoyed your tutorial, but if you could add just basic instructions on the bottom of the screen for those that cannot hear, that would be great.
I would love to see more video tutorials from this woman, she did SUCH a great job.
Anyone else get jealous at the multitude of threads 🧵 at the beginning? I would have the best time in the room she filmed this in.
Bonnie Scott I was thinking that looked like a glorious room as well.
Wonderland
I really appreciate how clear and pleasant Kristin is! I feel as if she really outlined the basics of embroidery.
I found your channel this evening, March 2022. You are completely delightful. Clear instructions, cheerful personality, beautiful showroom, and, you remind me of Winnie Cooper. I look forward to more videos from you.
the background looks like heaven oh my god
lols yes.. my eyes kept going back to the background and i start day dreaming .. lols .. hopeless 🤣
😁you'll have to open a shop!
i wish i could get a free for all and pick out any thread i want in there for 3 minutes p-p

Very easy & simple tutorial to understand for a beginner. I love the examples of stitches made ahead and then the actual making of the stitch. I am very excited to start my first project...but first I'm going shopping for my tools!
I was worried that filling embroidery would be hard, but now seeing how simple it is, I think I can actually do it myself.
I really appreciate your demonstrations of stem stitch and French knots. I feel like I'll be able to do those basic stitches better now.
This is probably the best video tutorial I have ever seen. You took your time and made a well organized, precise and interesting presentation with the emphasis on helping your viewer to understand the what, why and how of each step and each product. This is excellent. Thank you.
Where were you when I was teaching myself with a kit I received as a gift when I was about 9 (1974) . Really good instructions, I will subscribe.
this video is sooooo helpful! Thank you so much for taking the time to go slow and explain each stitch!
Wow, that is what I call a nice background!!!!! Loved you teaching. I haven't embroidered in a looong time., and it was good to refresh the stitches. Thank you.
Thank you I enjoy this my mom tried teaching me when I was a child, I found it difficult, you made it easy thank you again can't wait to see what I can do
Thanks for sharing. This video helps me brush up on my hand embroidery that I learned in high school.
This is a great training video for left handed people. Thank you for making the stitches so clear. It all makes sense now. LOL
GREAT step by step! Im completely new at this, I know NOTHING! So this was incredibly helpful and thorough. Thank u very much!
You are a natural teacher. I am so excited to get started!
This is my first video and it helps tremendously. Thank you very much
OMG!!!! millions of thanks for sharing your knowledge with me, I am so excited to be learning this fabulous hobby!

This makes so much sense!!! Thank you for an easy tutorial that is short sweet and clear!!! I went out bought supplies and got started. Good times!!
Que linda essa visão de tantas linhas coloridas no cenário, atrás de você.😍😍😍
The knot she used in the beggining is what I call a "booger knot". It's a really nice "basic" we learned in school.
yuk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol
Oh that room!! So fun! I would never get out of there lol!😍
Highlighters work for the water soluble pen if you don't have one.

great job of explaining the stitches and so forth!

Good teacher; good energy. :)
How did they make a paper frame & cloth holders? Looks like a great option for teaching group of children instead of investing & storing a bunch of hoops.
I wish this video was higher quality. The fuzziness makes it hard to really see the detail of what she's doing.
Luckily this is youtube and there are tons of videos showing the same stitches.
You are completely correct I had those thoughts myself and although there are other tutorials on RUclips none of them are as simplistic as this tutorial.
maybe your dpi is too low. I had mine on 360 and it was okay.

Really great video! I am a bit envious tho, live in Belgium now, and have limited access to all the materials I see on the wall ......
This is too funny - Isn’t Belgium really close to France where DMC is based? Are the borders closed?
I'm a right-handed person and I've already watched several embroidery videos. The camera perspective makes everyone appear to be left-handed! Makes me crazy!
Good vid, I learned embroidery stitches, thanks gal dem.🤓
Ooh my lord... her voice....❤❤❤
What number of pearl cotton are you using? Thanks!
Please tell what kind of fabrics to be used for cushion covers and table cloths. Can I use Perle cotton floss with most of my embroidery. Thanks
Fantastic Video! Thank you!

What a nice store 😍
Do you always have to use all 6 strands of floss/thread? when do you use less strands or more strands? Does every stitch need/use/ requires different number of strands?
I use a looping stitch not shown here, and on finer detail, I never use more than 2-3 strands, or else it distorts the detail.
