Exactly my thought. Sounds like a blown manifold gasket or potentially a leak. Would start with that, and actively search for boost leaks. With modern turbo tech this thing would be a monster
Can hear the boost actively leak as he’s on the throttle haha wouldn’t be a bad idea to tear the motor down anyways, maybe change the rings and touch up those cylinder walls. Just to make the block somewhat “fresh”. Small and cheap
One of the most amazing parts of the adventure with these cars is getting to understand what actually went into them and getting to fully document what's going into them now. I can't wait to see more on this VTTT.
Freaking LOVE it! I didn't think these were even real. just something from a videogame. Props to the owner for building it up right. it deserves to be a killer.
Curated has become one of my favourite channels on U tube, just a stunning collection of amazing cars, every week, looking forward to seeing what you take to Monterey, Rj in Oz
John - As always, thank you for showing us the best of the best. I enjoy your content so much. These examples you show us are just incredible and we’re quite privileged to be shown it.
Pretty sure the TT boost control is the fan speed control knob, in the upper left of the center stack. During the conversion they bypassed the fan speed switch, so it's always running at the same speed, when climate control is on. This leaves the fan speed control unused, then repurposed for boost control.... One more thing, DeMuro's review...
You can hear the ignition break up. The plugs and wires have to be shot. Plus back in the day turbo lag was accepted so I'm sure the hot side was paired correctly with the motor. I would rebuild the turbos with the original housings but change the internals. Possibly contact Borg Warner and see what they have. Their internally gated turbos are fantastic now. Internally gated turbos have come a long way now. 5 years ago I wouldn't even consider one. But that's an art piece. Congrats on the new Diablo. I used to have the red VT TT as a poster.
Yes, I’m from Scotland and when visiting the states in 93 for a two week holiday at 14 years old or so, I bought my first Du Pont Registry. I couldn’t believe the cars I was seeing, so amazing
There were only FIVE VTTTs commissioned through Vik K. and his Lamborghini dealerships. This car is not an official/original VTTT; it was commissioned separately through the owner and Greg Armstrong.
Greg Armstrong is very hard to reach these days. He can confirm. I have No. 4 and have a tethered history on them. Mark C. owned it for a decade, and he was able to learn a lot more from Greg. No. 1 was red and belonged to Mike Tyson. The SVTT was NOT one of the original FIVE. No. 5 was a red, fair-weather car originally sold to the SA Foreign Minister of Finance.
@@jasdhillon9299 Jas, you've got excellent taste in cars from what I saw on your ig. I had no idea you had a VTTT. How does it compare to the F40? Formally requesting that you upload a video and share some of your knowledge about it with us. -Dave B
@@jasdhillon9299 Great insight. I'm a big Tyson fan. I wonder if this was prior to his yellow Diablo. * Edit saw your comment below Jas denomonating which No's were which colours.
7 of these in the entire world. VTTT (Viscous traction twin turbo) A LEGEND. Hopefully you guys can make it live up to it's badge. It's a VTTT which is special and important. Especially these days.
There are actually 10 total according to a few websites. A couple were called VTTT's but actually had twin superchargers instead of Turbos. I would think it would be easier to make a SV into one of these, that way you don't have to worry about breaking the 4 wheel drive Viscious traction system.
LOVE this channel. I would quit my job in sales to work for him and If I had the opportunity to speak with the Diablo client I guarantee I would be able to talk him into a fitting a sequential transmission and a underground racing Diablo twin turbo stage 2 (car# 01 Diablo tt package) and suspension over the phone I miss working in the automotive industry 😌
Heffner Performance was the first shop to twin turbo a Gallardo and his kit whether it be Underground Racing, Dallas Performance or Sheepy Racing that is the kit they all copy. Heffner is the man, he is in Florida just south of Tampa amd that’s who you should get in touch with.
I love it even in its current health condition, thanks for sharing it with us! On a side note, did the Diablo steal the "Twin Turbo" badge from a Nissan 300zx TT too!?
You have a terrible job John ,it must be so hard going to work every day driving and being around all those amazing cars. Love the videos ,seeing all my poster cars on the road. Only managed to own one of my poster cars so far .
I’m with John on this, leave it how it is. Everyone knows about them and only 7 were made. But, now this one will be the famous “Curated/Underground VTTT” so that’s something too. Again, loving the candid footage, and you couldn’t have picked a better song for the end. On another note…Sometime you should do a long (30+ minute) “midnight drive” in a white Countach and put some synthwave to that. Instant viral. Heck, make them a series and do a bunch of your inventory that way. 👍
Knock @ 6:44, thought it was over-turning of the wheel but then you went further. Then it kept making that light knock no matter what the steering was doing. What is happening there? Does the rack need rebuilt?
The necessary turbo technology is now available, make that car what it should have been from the beginning! Just give it to a turbo-refit expert and let it sort out. In this case it is better to have a not- original but working car, doing what it should do, since it's not original anyway, ie modifications wouldn't spoil it.
I’m sure Underground would be great but Nelson Racing Engines did a few built block TT engines, I’ve not seen one in car but I’ve seen them post pics of their long blocks on social media, maybe worth checking out given their reputation in racing
honestly with how old those turbos are that car would benefit greatly by just replacing them with new counterparts , no way those havent lost some chooch over the years, plus turbo tech has come a incredibly long way since those were designed.
I feel like it wouldn’t be right to be in Miami without a Lamborghini or Ferrari. The Miami vice shows and movie and movies that make u want to be in Miami is what also made it. Miami also wouldn’t be right without John and Curated! Keep up the great work
That sounds so good! 🔥👌 never even knew these existed. I wouldn’t care if it didn’t make 750hp, just the looks and sound alone I think makes up for being “underpowered”
What ever work you do to the engine... you MUST ceramic coat the exhaust manifolds to reduce the radiant heat in the engine compartment and i would also use redlines water wetter with the coolant.
Judging by the video, it sounds and looks like the car is on 6psi and not 9psi of boost. hence the 600hp (probably around 520whp). I'd love to see it dynoed before removing the engine. Can't wait to see the content with the rebuild and engine building and hopefully modern tech on the turbos and tuning etc. I'd bet this diablo would hit 1000whp EASILY with a modern build
@amacca2085 Any car can hit any number if you throw enough money at it. A Civic can hit 1000hp easy? Lol right cuz they start with so much to begin with. A turbo Civic making 1000hp is probably running some ridiculous boost like 30lbs if not more.
Those engines were built with thicker head gaskets to lower the compression ratio so they will be less powerful than stock at low rpm until the turbos spool up. They’d be set at 6psi to be reliable and would make less than 550 crank horsepower at that setting. 8psi would make about 650. Add a hundred for marketing purposes and you have 750. 10 psi would make 750 and blow up quickly. Stock compression ratio with low boost, 8psi, modern turbo and engine management systems and E85 would get over 700hp (about 50% more than stock) reliability with extra torque everywhere. The cylinder heads will flow just fine too, no need for extra injectors just higher flow and modern engine management and experienced tuning.
Back in the late 70’s through the 80’s snd 90’s I was a Porsche fan boy the day I drove the turbo I was hooked plus Porsche as a manufacturer was always known for being reliable something Ferrari and Lamborghini never were !! The Italians made weapons of beauty but always and I mean always had problems and Porsche especially when the Turbo hit the market was just perfect in my eyes especially after the movie no man’s land with sheen hit the big screen .. Porsche all day every day
Adjusted for inflation these were just over $1,000,000. That's a lot for an unreliable Diablo that doesn't make the advertised horsepower. It sounds good though.
Sounds like it has a manifold leak. With some updated turbo technology and engine management system. Car would probably be a beast.
Exactly my thought. Sounds like a blown manifold gasket or potentially a leak. Would start with that, and actively search for boost leaks. With modern turbo tech this thing would be a monster

One of the best-looking cars of all time.
I feel the same. I use to own a blue 96 VT and they are just incredible cars and very easy to drive too. Always ultimately wanted a 6.0 version though
Looking forward to the build. Spent two years in Miami. Had a good time while I was there!
Looks like a nissan 300zx twin turbo sticker on the back
Thanks for the flashback. From the title I thought it was the Nelson Racing 1000hp TT VT. Just looked up that video, 9 years since they dropped that!
Eleventy Million Horse Power! Great drive guys! Take that Jetta to school! 🤣🤣
I remember seeing I believe the blue one for sale in a DuPont mag in the 90s - 455,000 is what I recall.

Was the A/C just not working or did they remove it to fit the turbos or something like race car builders like to do ?
Nice video. Can a 32 bit ECM from a 2001 can be install in a 1994 Diablo?
What happened to the Diablo SV that was white and used for a Victoria's Secret ad that had the SV reversed and was VS?
Black always looks great, only thing I hate on US cars are the chrome wheels, looks just cheap
I remember these in DuPont Registry
@8:03 loved the Infiniti trying to 💪. lol
I am a simple man. I see Lamborghini Diablo in a video title and I like the video and comment on it.
Down left is first right? Because dog-leg?
Could it be that it has a torque limiter in first and therefore feel extra slow?
Definitely sounds like an exhaust leak. Or valve issues. Hard to tell. I’m sure it’s a sick car overall.
Curated will have over 2Mil subscribers 🔥🔥🔥
Get it guys, wanna see the results!
Any update on this car John??
Now that is a great sounding car!
You forgot the Diablo SV VS from Vik's creations.
If ur excited, I'm excited!!!!!!!!! Can't wait to see it when it's fully rebuilt!!!!!! Gonna b 1 bad ass car!!
Sick Ontario plates! Boy that's close to me lol
Ontario plates stay with the owner, not the car.
Put it on the dyno before the engine out, car is the definition of turbo lag
VT TT! This is it right here! Wicked! Automotive History Esp this being 007!
So glad you took your girly pony tail out. You look way better this way bro.
That car is probably the last project Ferrucio Lamborghini saw before dying.
CuratedTV is coming to my favorite RUclips channel thanks to down to earth John Temerian.
That car was for sale last year, and it sat for along time at the dealership.
Time to compose a quick email waiting for the turbos lol
Are you still restoring it
Just follow the vacuum lines on the wastegates to find the boost controller.

Hey John, can you tell us one music that was at the end of the video?
I’m okay with it, because it was made in period. I’d still prefer an SV.
What a video, dream car material right there
Be interested to know who's car it is, as its Canadian obviously with the plates
Makes my dreamcar NSX with a K swap with Twins. Seem like a cost effective idea with still almost as good of looks.
The NSX looks way better than the Diablo.
Adjusted for inflation these were just over $1,000,000. That's a lot for an unreliable Diablo that doesn't make the advertised horsepower. It sounds good though.
FANTASTIC IDEA😀😀😀
That cars turbo setup definitely was not engineered…it doesn’t follow even basic engineering principles…it’s super just sad.
