  • In this video we take this inexpensive stratocaster guitar kit and put it together with all the stock components so that we can test it out with nothing down to it except basic assembly. I'm honestly pretty please with how this guitar kit performs straight out of the box. I can't wait to go in and customize and upgrade it until it's a truly unique instrument.

    It has a Strat type sound already. Which, is a nice surprise.
    You could try a stacked Humbucker pickup. They look like a single coil. And, fit in the same single coil slot. They've been around since the '80s. But, a lot of people still haven't heard of them or, tried them.

    • @BradAngove

      Right, several coats of shellac and call it good. I just did that by accident, I was intending on shellac being just the sealer on a guitar I was going to paint, but ended up liking the shellac look so much I kept it as the final finish.

    • @BradAngove
      @BradAngove  5 лет назад +4

      Finishing is subjective, so you're definitely not wrong haha. I did a video fairly recently on how to tint your shellac, and I think the finish I did in that video would look great on a guitar.

    Considering that you did nothing, not even a basic setup, that doesn't sound too bad. I think the Tele sounded better in stock form though. Of course a setup would make a huge difference, but straight out of the box, on the supplied strings, that's not too shabby at all. Solo really does great kits!!

    • @BradAngove
      @BradAngove  5 лет назад +1

      I agree; I'm pretty happy with it. The tele was great for straight out of the box. I did the neck work on that one before the demo though. Let's see how a very basic upgrade affects this haha.

  • @adambilge2834
    @adambilge2834 5 лет назад +4

    Brad you should always play with lots of distortion. Lots and lots of distortion. I know from experience. I play the same style and the more distortion I use the better I sound. With 2 metal zones I'm damn near pro level.

    • @BradAngove
      @BradAngove  5 лет назад +4

      Yeah, if I could go ahead and add in enough static to make me almost impossible to hear, you wouldn’t even be able to tell that I’m not any good haha.

  • @Bloosee
    @Bloosee 5 лет назад

    According to Fender. The outer two bridge screws should be tightened to the point where the back of the plate begins to lift, the remainning screws should be backed off so they are sitting about 1mm above the plate. That's how I've always set up my trems.

    • @BradAngove
      @BradAngove  5 лет назад

      Interesting.

    • @Bloosee
      @Bloosee 5 лет назад

      If you look at your video, when you screwed down the bridge screws the back of the plate lifted slightly. That puts binding pressure on the tremolo system so it would move freely. I've set up a couple dozen trems over the years, I'm no expert but the description I wrote seems to work well.

    • @BradAngove
      @BradAngove  5 лет назад

      Yeah, it makes sense. I always have the back plate lift a bit, but I use a consistent 15 torque all the way across.

    Hi, nice video. My question is, considering only neck and body, are these kits´s elements good enough to build a high end instrument? I'm thinking in puttin quality elements on it, like a good bridge, pickups, tunning machines etc.-
    Is it worth it? or you recommend buying a Squier and upgrade it?

    • @BradAngove
      @BradAngove  4 года назад +1

      It depends on how good you are at fretwork and setup. These can be good instruments, but it’s easier to just upgrade a squier generally.

    In order to solder the ground wire to the spring claw do I need to heat up the claw? I cant seem to get it to stay soldered to the claw.

    • @BradAngove
      @BradAngove  5 лет назад +1

      Yes, you need to crank up your soldering iron and hold it against the claw for a while to heat up the area so that the solder will stick.

  • @neillawton6076
    @neillawton6076 5 лет назад

    Are you stripping out the threads on the neck pocket after initially installing the neck? You'll get a better pull on the neck if you do, not to mention a massive increase in sustain.

    • @BradAngove
      @BradAngove  5 лет назад

      You figure that actually makes a difference? I often do it regardless, but I’ve never really had difficulty getting a good joint there.

    • @neillawton6076
      @neillawton6076 5 лет назад

      @@BradAngove it really depends on the guitar. I've got a 2004 squier showmaster that had a good join, but the threads from the factory were still in the body, drilled it out with a 6mm bit, and the difference was immense. It enables the screw to slide through the body, and only pull on the neck, giving a greater contact between them, which I've always found increases the sustain. (I know you know what it does, just explaining for those that don't.)

    • @BradAngove

      cool... is the durability good? because i would imagine that its quite scratch resistant and wouldnt get patches that have been polished out from playing, since it is basically made to take on a bit of friction... and players can have a different design for every gig! i feel like its worth it just to draw on it whenever!
