  • I have been telling you that connecting a DAC directly to a computer does not bring you the best of audio quality. That doesn’t mean you can’t connect a DAC to a computer, you just need a device that cleans up the power and the signal on the USB bus. A device like the iFi Nano iUSB3.0.

    i dont understand. Why it has to be separate device. Why DACs cant have this build in, as one device. Expensive DACs probably have this. If its possible to make DAC+AMP combo, then why not DAC+AMP+Power/signalcleaner

      Good point, they should have. But they don't. Perhaps out of competition considerations (it will make the DAC more expensive) or perhaps because the special knowledge to design this isn't present.

      The only thing I can think of is that it is easier to upgrade smaller modules. Instead of investing a lot at once. And now you can choose wether you want a reclocker at all or cleaner supply. Also as the hobby grows on you and you improve your hearing & needs you can adjust your gear as well.

    Thank you for this review. I find USB reclockers much more interesting than streaming sources, as my computer is silent and alway on when I listen to music. Controlling my music via PC is just much more convienient than any streaming solution I've seen up to date.
    In this sense, I would be interested in more options for better USB connections, especially low budget ones like the Schiit Eitr, which is extremely well received in forums. A review of that device as an example would be great!

    Great reviews as always Hans.
    I wonder if you are interested in reviewing the Schiit Audio Wyrd, a powered USB hub and reclocker from Schiit Audio similar to this iFi offering but on USB 2.0 interface.
    Since not many DAC utilize USB 3.0 and on a unbelievable $99 USD price point I think many people will be interested in watching your review of it.

    Thanks Hans, I always find your videos informative. I use a Chord Mojo DAC+AMP connected to my PC and Android for mobility. I've heard people saying that by connecting an "Audioquest Jitterbug USB Data & Power Noise Filter" before the Mojo, could improve the clarity of the audio signal. This can be purchased for $79 AUD. Do you have any experience with this product?

    Hello Hans having heard ifi micro usb 3.0 do you think it needs burn in time? Also ifi web site says you can combine the new galvanic 3.0 with ifi micro 3.0. Your comments.
    Thanks.

    • @TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel
      @TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel  6 лет назад

      I can only comment on equipment I have reviewed. But almost all digital audio equipment has a burn in time and need to be connected to power all the time to keep the oscillator stable. I didn't try the combination of the Galvanic and Micro so I really can't say.

    I have the new Pro-Ject Pre Box S2 Digital on order, which has a micro-USB power inlet. Even though Pro-Ject claims this DAC has quite a bit USB noise canceling built in, adding this iUSB unit may be a good approach. Hans, do you know of the power-only USB port in the back could be used with a dedicated cable to power the Pro-Ject DAC, and using the 2nd USB port for data to that DAC?

    • @TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel
      @TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel  6 лет назад

      I have no experience with the Project. Sorry

    • @SimonBelgium
      @SimonBelgium 6 лет назад

      Hans, no worries, and I have since found the answer: When using the USB input on the ProJect, it is powered by it as well, and they actually advise you to remove the power supply. So it's a great candidate for the iFi iUSB! On a side note, $399 for DSD64 to DSD512, and MQA, and up to 32bit/768kHz PCM, I'll use it for my first venture into Roon with Tidal via a Mac Mini. Perhaps a friendly Pro-Ject contact can send you one to test? I wanted the Brooklyn DAC+, but this is 1/4th the price, so I'll try this one for now... Love your videos, Hans!

      I also use the S2 Digital from Pro-Ject (which Hans has reviewed by now). I am considering to use an Ifi iPower 5v micro usb to power the DAC. But I am not sure yet. What did you end up doing?

    Thank you Hans for reviewing USB regenerators. It would be interesting to see a review of the new Oelbach XXL MasterClock voor USB. I am a little confused about the ALLDAQ ADQ-USB 3.0-ISO-PS. What is the difference between this USB isolator and the USB regenerators? They all separate power and signal and re-clock the datastream???

    • @TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel
      @TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel  6 лет назад

      An isolator provides galvanic separation that can help if there are earth potential problems. Regenerators improve the 'readability' if the USB signal to reduce jitter.

  • @pimvanloenen1557
    @pimvanloenen1557 6 лет назад

    Hello Hans, I understand and hear these tweaks when the source is a computer, it's electrical full of dirt. Galvanic isolation is another way to deal with these problems as you describe with the Pink Faun isolator for LAN. I reacted on this matter with some possibilities for the USB side of the story. But is it possible to combine these things? I have also an iPurifier2 and the iSilincer which I even use with my Laptop to an Audio Interface DAC for recording music with Cubase Pro. I think they use the same approach as the nano and Micro iUSB3.0 that is cleaning and reclocking. Is it in an electrical sense useful to combine these technics?I even use an iSilencer in the DAC OUT from mu Auralic Aries Femto to a DAC, no reclocking because there is already working a Femto clock in the DAC OUT. In principle is the Auralic Ultra Low Noise Linear PSU very clean, but I think the sound is even cleaner with the addition of the iSilencer. To improve the sound furthermore, do you think that a sBooster PSU will improve electrical pollution? Have you any experience with the sBooster PSU's? Tey are rather expensive for tweaking the system...
