  • I've had problems in the winter, but I attributed it to the cold weather. Then I had engine randomly not getting sparks - I don't know if this is related. This was around noon on Monday, after the bike was sitting over the weekend. It was probably 80 degrees. Once it started, it ran fine, and I had no problem starting it a few hours later coming home.
Note the backfire at the beginning.
    I apologize for the profanity.
Let me know if you have an idea.

Ugh that cranking is so hot. I would love to be on that bike stranded someplace and have it not start

    Check out your air filter

Weirdly enough, this only happened once, so it's probably not the air filter. My best guess is that it was either a piece of dirt in the carburetor, or the igniter.
The igniter was failing intermittently around that time, but then it fixed itself, and it ran fine for months.
Now that it's cold again, I have starting issues again, but I know I can probably fix it by enrichening the idle mixture.

@@innocuousmerchant8766 I haven't found the problem. It worked well all summer long this year. I haven't changed anything.

@@bikebear893 , when the cold weather sets in, you should only need to use the choke. Messing with the idle mixture is not good, because that will affect when the engine is warmed up, and also when the weather is hot; it will also lead to your plugs being fouled quicker. Also, dont be afraid to hold the starter button longer.
