I studied this for 2 years and came to the conclusion i can just buy a light weight fitted 4100 mah mini 2 battery that just pops right in and i get 60 minutes in air flight

Fantastic video. I love to know about hacks and your sound and video quality is perfect. What do you use to record? I use a canon m50 with the canon 22mm f2 or thé canon 50mm f1.8 using a speed booster, with various microphones. There are probably better cameras out now for making talking head videos and vlogging at around the same price range. But I really like being able to change lenses for when it makes a difference. Sorry for digressing so much. When sone thing comes to mind, I let it out. Have fun.

That blue epoxy is definitely no joke.
If it works out there in the open with RTH, this could be a good business idea. I would buy such a mod, I am sure there are many people who would like to stay 35-40 minutes in the air out there in the open instead of just 20 to 25 minutes.
RTH should work just fine. I will test it. I am sure people are interested to have more flight time. That is why I try to make it as simple as possible and give all the info I have. I believe in Open-sourcing things. :) I think we all can learn a lot from each other!

i got 2x 21700 cells with a capacity of 5000mah and discharge rate of 20a. hopefully it goes well using your video :)
only concern is the weight. total weight is 120g for my new battery.

Уважаемый Золли,на 8 минуте видео вы с оговоркой "Внимание" что-то рассказали про крайний вывод на распиновке,который рядом с минусом и припаяли туда провод.Не могли бы вы мне лично объяснить для чего он нужен.Дело в том,что я не знаю английский.И ещё вопрос,надо ли выравнивать по напряжению каждую ячейку перед пайкой и подводить их к значению напряжения на родных ячейках с контроллером.Заранее спасибо.
A lipo wow. Thought there was a li-ion in there .. nice mod.
I ended up building custom 5" with rth and position hold and alt hold so I could do over 30mins flight and top speed 85mph. Ended up getting over 40mins flights on 3000mah Li-ion.
Has dji camera system and can carry a hero9. 12min flight on lipo 1300mah carrying hero9. Flights are on my channel.
I want to mod my mini 1 though. Mine just sucks so bad. Something wrong with it. I think I got a factory reject. Needs better motors or new esc. Thought swapping for air 2.

This is Wonderfull Zolly! Any idea to build gimbal of similar mass and nice lens with sensor?
I am not sure about control, but those free parameter setting softwares seem capable of building stability of similar quality.
Just the number of new drone manufactures is apparent. I searched for a while and found all gimbal-axes big, only 1 or 2 barely small ones that got expensive. The photo module was something I haven't look into yet, don't know how to search for it.
That is a tough project. I may look into it in the future.
nice video, i thought about the same :) but do you think the 10 minutes flytime are worth it outdoors? its windy so the drone has to struggle even more so realisticly you get about 5-7 mins more.

Right. I think there will be a sweet spot in energy density which will work fine. probably LiPo cells.
I think if another 2000 mAh can be added to the stock battery with the weight of some 60-70grams, then it would do 40 mins outdoors too.

Could you please make a video on boosting the signal for the Mavic Mini (more stability by boosting the signal without replacing the antennas)?
I will look into it. To be honest I don't really see how to boost the signal without antenna change. Or do you mean the FCC vs CE issue?
Or use passive snap-on signal booster on the controller. Search : mavic mini signal booster

I would love to have all the drones in the World, but I do not have it (yet). If I ever get my hands on this one, I will for sure look into it. The principle should be somewhat similar I think. :)
What is the voltage of the battery and is there any problems with cells balance?

Yes! YOu will need a software called TRB! Look it up from PatboonLab
The only problem that the drone actually calculates the return distance as well, which means that the calculation is for both directions and not one.
The farther you go the more consumption you will get to return back.

is that the same second battery? can 2 original batteries be connected at the same time?
Why put the case back on the MINI 2 Battery. Save weight and just foam shim to keep tight. Put a second set of cells with just the shrink to save more weight. Looks like a good job. The blue did make it easy to pull tiny parts. Good repair and extended flight time, but how much performance loss with the extra weight. It would be nice to get the battery telemetry back.
Yeah. I wanted to keep it as safe as possible, but yes for the max flighttime test I will do just those you suggested!:)

For changing the cells you need reconfig. For adding a cell like in the vid you are cool as it is:)

If if possible could you do a test with just the stock battery with the telm. disconnected for a comparison I think the result may surprise you
I think you are right. The reason why I did not do it because then the drone drains the battery all the way down to under 3V per cell. I do not want to destroy these cells (yet) :D
When I added more capacity it was Li-ion and that can be drained to 3V. In that case the LiPo also went to 3V but at least the majority of the current came from the Li-ion cells due to its discharge curve. I hope it makes sense.
I did orded some additional LiPo cells. Once they arrive I will do the tests you suggested! 🙂
Please, can you tell me what is the name of this power connector on a battery? What model is it, I can't find the name anywhere and DJI won't help.

There is software someone on RUclips makes for moding the battery so mini one can take poly and think it can mod size too i will look for the name
I know the software. TRB. I am in contact with the developer and at some point I will also make a video of that! :)
Otherwise I can hint, that I have used my earlier design of Mavic Mini starter successfully on the Mini2. So far it looks promising as to not having a capacity limit, but more testing is needed. It will come in a future video. ;)

If the cells that are used in the Hubsan Mini,MiniSE and Mini Pro can be transplanted to the PCB of the Mavic Mini or Mavic Mini 2, then there is a guaranteed 30 plus minutes of flight time every single flight with 15 to 25% battery left at the end of the flight.... I consistently get 30 minute flight times with 20% battery left and I have flown a full 38 minutes down to 5% on my Zino Mini SE... I can even charge the Hubsan batteries using an aftermarket Mavic Mini charger... I have uploaded the video and I know that you are far more knowledgeable but I do believe that if you knew about these cells that you could use them for your projects they get extremely good flight time... they are 3,000 milliamp 18650s that are in the Hubsan batteries.
Can be good for the Mavic Mini. The Mini 2 is different chemistry so that does not work well.
Can you run mini 2 batteries in mini 1?

Maybe this is a stupid question but I can't find it anywhere...what are all of the pins for, like what does each one do because there's not just a positive and a negative.
There are no stupid questions. :) In one of my videos I explain the pins. from left to right: Data pin, negative, positive, positive, negativ, data.
The 2 data pins are for the SMBus communication between the drone and the battery board.
i have question can i charge mini2 battery on mini1 charger is this the same port i know doesnt fit if i make t fit it will charge ???
Haven't tried, but I am kindof 100% sure that NO, you can not.
The diode was smd (F4) zener diode 9.1v 0.350watt.
U can use here 9v 1/2 (half) watt zener diode. Then the battery will be ok.

The battery works longer if you lower the resolution of the camera to the lowest setting, don't record video and you will reach a flight time longer than the flight time DJI names in the manual. Destroy things is also a job, I guess.....

They already have extended 3850mah batteries. They're called PLUS batteries. That gives you about 40+ minutes. That's more battery than most need.
A kill battery data mode would be great if you was going to die over water bodies! Sacrifice a battery for a better chance of getting your drone back!
I agree! :) Even if it is unsafe, In that emergency scenario it is still the best thing to do. I will look into it in my further testing!

hello my mini se battery swell up is it safe to fly or charge it?
It is not. Even if it doesnt do damage to anything (it could swell more and get stuck in the drone) it will probably perform very poor
Would it be possible to connect a cable to the mini 2 battery to connect with my naked gopro hero 8?
I don´t fully understand your question. Tapping into the Mini 2 battery you can power additional devices, but there should be a limit to what current. I did not test it, but I would not go over 0.5 A.
@@ZollyD have to check what power my go pro needs then. I have a naked gopro 8 that i would like to use with my mini 2 but the naked gopro has no battery and it would be powered by a 4s battery on my protek drone.

Maybe this is or isn't a good idea but could you just hook up 2 of the mini 2 batteries together?...as long as you can bypass the app lock and let you take off?
You could do that, but then the data (SMBus) lines should be connected from only 1 battery, otherwise they will talk in the same time and you will get an error. But if the data is not connected, then it is just like connecting 2 naked batteries anyways, so it would be a waste of resources.

@@ZollyD you may search Mini2 3600mah in RUclips and you can see a plenty of video talking about this, they change the battery cell and modify the value of the battery board, it is more safe and effective.

Have you tried changing the shunt resistor it uses to measure current to match the additional capacity? Like if you have doubled the capacity use a resistor that would cause it to read half the amperage of what it reads now? Just brainstorming while I watch lol

It's using way more power to keep the drone flying. Your phone is not an aircraft.

Yah if you hover like this with no wind and also you fly inside your house you get 39 or 40 min of fly time. but if you fly outside and flying at the wind and fly at high alti well your wasting your time and upgrading the batt, This is waste of diy upgrade for your dji mavic mini

Agreed. It's extremely inventive and a great watch. I love technical stuff.
However in the real world these battery mods are a little pointless unless you can reduce the weight of the drone to its original.
The drone will be balanced at the weight it already is, the motors can only create so much thrust to keep this balance. In windy weather the motors can max out. If you add weight and already max out the motors you may not get your drone back.
You should have a look at the dat files so you can see how it affects the motor speeds.
Is the risk worth it for an extra 10 mins?
