My reptile hobby is what got me into plants.
Now just a few months later I find myself here with not only my terrarium plants but also over a dozen houseplants that have nothing at all to do with my reptile keeping.
Yeah it's addicting! I can totally relate, I started with planting vegetables then someone suggested to try plants then I just can't stop. 😅
Thanks, you answered all my questions.. I let mine get leggy but after trimming, I'll stick the cuttings into mama plant pot to make it fuller.... GREAT VID
i just got two pink polka dot plants and I'm so excited for them to grow so I can propagate them! thanks for the video, it was super helpful ☺️
you are most welcome! thanks for dropping by, and enjoy your new plant, Goodluck with the propagation! 👍😊
Thanks for this video. I am a beginner Hypoestes parent plant.
You are welcome! Thanks for dropping by and enjoy your hypoestes ❤
Thanks for sharing this one. I am planning to propagate this plant too. God bless yaa.
i bought one for my boyfriend but it’s so beautiful i want one for myself too 😂 thank you for the video!! 🥰
Yeah the color is great, propagate it first before giving it to your boyfriend, goodluck! ❤👍
I bought a beautiful green/white one. Its so pretty, I went looking for his girlfriend:) now I have a beautiful pink/green one too. They make the perfect plant couple 😉 maybe try to find a diff color so you guys can have a polka dot couple as well:) best part, my new one came ready to propagate too, 😀
Ganda!
Bushy na po sya now and looking great 👍😊
This is one of the first plants I got some months ago when I first started getting into plants. It's still healthy and I've got two propagation working right now. In water. Wasn't sure when I should plant it.
Hi! Once rooted you can then transfer it to soil. Direct soil propagation is also good, since if from water some of them don't adjust well with the transition. Good luck with your propagation! 😊👍
Re RT really really
I started propagation in water, and they have taken off! Now I'm not sure where I'm going to plant them, because I didn't think it would work. 7 out of 10 cuttings have roots like crazy after 3 weeks. 😀 ❤️ 🪴 🌱 🌿
Did the stem cuttings got roots in water propagation?
Great video, thanks for sharing!!!
THANK YOU !!!
You are welcome! ❤😊
thank you so much
You are welcome! ❤
Thank you
Most intresting video.
Thank you! ❤
awww I love this post!! request pls, nerve plant naman! which is best method?
On process na po, will post soon. Under propagation na sya 👍😊
Thank for shating
Thanks too for dropping by our channel! ❤
Beautiful plants, stay connected friend
thank you! ;)
Hi, thank you for this information. I’m new at this and was wondering what’s next after propagation honestly? Like how do you feed the water and soil ones like the regular potted plant or how to keep up with it? Sorry for the confusion..
When I propagate plants in water, I just change the water once a week.
Thank you po! ❤
Hi! 😍 Indirect sun lang sila, if indoors put them beside the window kc pag dark tumatamlay yung color ng dots nila. Last month na magkasunod ang bagyo antabang ng colors nung akin, now ok na ulit. Every other day dilig if indoors is ok. Outdoors water them everyday. 😊
@@EdViAriah thank you pooo. ❤❤❤
very informative video, thanks for posting!
Thank you so much ❤
I think if you want to grow it in a garden bed or pot then just propagate directly to soil, giving it some shade and moisture. It's not just about growing roots but accustoming the 'cuttings' to the soil it will be growing in. I would cut the cuttings into little sections. As long as the sections have a node each and do not rot or dry up, it should eventually grow out new leaves. I would make little 'columns' in the soil with a toothpick if the sections aren't too thick and insert the sections in these 'columns'. Sometimes just sticking the sections in the space between stems of existing plants with the surrounding soil is sufficient to propagate. I move the stems of existing plants around a bit to create 'space' between the stem and surrounding soil, insert the sections, and release the stem. The stem of existing plants would help keep the sections in place which would otherwise be dislodged by various activities around maintaining the moisture and tidiness of a garden bed or pot
Thank you! I am working on propogating mine in water currently, however I'm noticing the leaves and stems are starting to droop. Some cuttings are larger, some smaller. Will they still root even if they're wilting like this?
Hi make sure that the ends of the cuttings are reaching the water and put them away from direct sun exposure. I normally experience drooping and wilting if I put the cuttings direct to soil but not water. Check the condition of your water, make sure they are deep enough to reAch at least 1/3 of the stem cuttings. Remove the wilted stems, change the water again to give the others a change to root. Good luck!
@@EdViAriah Tha k you for your reply. I took your advice and removed the wilted ones. I have four left that seem to be fine in the water. They haven't fired roots yet, though they haven't wilted. I wonder if the tiny buds on the nodes needed to be removed in order to promote root growth. I had left them in tact, however today I decided to plic all of the tiny buds off in hopes that would speed up the process :)
@@EdViAriah Had the same issue with the all of the leaves drooping on three propagation stems I cut. My cuttings were only about 4 inches in length but each had about 10 leaves, and now they are all half dropping. I took off the ones that were the worst and hoping they will catch. First propagation I have had that hasn't worked.
For the one on soil, do you water periodically within that 7 days period?
For the one on watet, do you add or change the water during tht period or just let it be
Hi! For the soil I water it regularly like my regular plants, just avoid sun exposure. For the water propagation, you have to replace the water after 3 to 4 days. Hope that helps! 😊
Good to know you can propagate both ways. My question is, will the pink color return to the propagated plants. My original plant is very pink with the shoots I'm propagating less color. Thank you.
Hi! Yes, the color will revert to normal once place in its ideal condition. I experienced the same when I propagated coz I placed it under a shade, the color revert back when I finally transferred it to soil with some morning sun. Good luck with your propagation! 👍
@@EdViAriah Great! Thanks for your answer.
They polka dots turn white when the conditions aren’t ideal. With the proper care and sun exposure, they’ll turn back pink again.
Just bought 1 pot of pink polkadots last sunday and divided it into 3 pots already! May I ask that when you propagate yours did you keep it inside the house or let it grow outside your garden for a week?
Hi! I let it grow outside, it will need enough light for the propagation. If inside the house please put it beside a window with ample lighting or use grow lights. Hope that helps! ❤
👍👍👍👍
Do I put the plant in a really sunny place outside or do I put it next to a window or do I put them in shade 🤔 im killing all my plants i don't understand please help I only have problems with the polkadot plants they get leggy and drop leaves or the tips of the leaves curled and fall off ???????
my polka dot plant has nice small purple blooms. where did you buy your small white pot? thanks!
Yes they have flowers din, I bought the white pots online lang. FB sellers.
EdVi&Ariah Thanks! happy planting!
Did you add rooting hormone to the water propagation or the soil propagation? Or just plain water to both?
Hi! I did not used any rooting hormone for this propagation. The water should be replaced every 3 to 4 days too so it will just wash off the solution. To compare them fairly I did not used any for my soil propagation too. Hope that helps, happy gardening! ☺
@@EdViAriah thank you so much for responding! I just trimmed my polka dot plant yesterday and I didn’t know I could propagate it so I threw it away! 😭 I will try it next time though
@@ckiker72 oh no! But don't worry, they grow fast and in need of regular trimming 'coz they get so leggy most of the time, propagate them next time. 😊👍
Mine got extremely wilted in the water method. Is there any way to help them?
Hi, were they exposed to direct sun? Just indirect sun then change the water after 3 days. Water should be an easier transition for the cuttings, they normally wilt for a few days once planted direct to soil. Change the location and water condition. Hope that helps. Good luck with your propagation 👍
Yung soil propagation, did you water them? If yes, pang ilang araw?
Can you propagate from a single leaf with a bit of stem?
Yes there's a chance it will survive the propagation. Make sure the cut is below a node on the stem.
Can they live in water? I've propagated a cutting in water and it seems to be starting to die? Is there something else I need to do?
Hi, yes you can propagate them in water. Make sure that the area where you placed the cutting is well lighted but not exposed to direct sun. You need to replace the water too like every 3 days, make sure the water is deep enough to cover the cuttings. Chop off the lower leaves and stems. No need to put anything in the water, those should work. Goodluck!
How come all of the new leaves don’t have dots?
Hi, the dots will appear as they grow and if you transfer the plant in a place with better lighting / indirect sun. Mine was during the typhoon season so not much light. The dots/ colors are bAck now. 😊
pano ba to alagaan morning sun lang ba cia ,,
Yung akin is 4 hrs of morning sun ganda ng color nya. I tried putting some indoors thriving but maputla color kahit beside the window na with few hrs of indirect light. Better if at least 3 hrs of morning or afternoon sun 😊
What kind of soil did you use to propagate?
Hi, I used soilless mix for the propagation.
@@EdViAriah thank you so much!
😂I’m watchn this on my phone n I legit thought someone’s dog was barking outside
Pwede po banh indoor plants ang polka
Hi! Yes but dapat beside the window with ample lighting or in a well lighted room. The first time I tried putting mine indoor nag fade yung dots nya and nagmukhang pale medyo madilim kc sa bahay namin. So i put it back outside and bumalik color nya.
Is this indoor or outdoor?
Both, but if place indoors make sure it is placed in a well lighted room. Thanks for dropping by.👍
Hi, I experienced that too nung antagal na maulan. They need indirect sun kc, makaka-recover yan now na umaaraw na ulit.
@@EdViAriah ahh... Thank you.
Hi! Mahirap ba alagaan ang polka dots? Bumili kasi ako online. Nung dumating, ok naman yung plants (i bought 3). After a few days I noticed yung one plant, the lower leaves were curling and drying up then eventually would fall off. Even the little leaves growing off the stem itself were drying up.
I mist them everyday. Im in the UK and wag daw masyadong water pag winter, so yun yung sinunod ko.
And isa pa, when it arrived I put it beside the window that gets the afternoon sun. You think nasobrahan ng araw?
It started with one plant, pero ngayon pati yung dalawa may curled lower leaves na din 🙁
And also, ang advice sa akin dapat gamitan ng humidifier. So that's what it has beside the plants for a few hours eveeyday.
Hi, actually madali lang sya alagaan. For me mas nahihirapan pa nga ako everytime I put some of them inside the house because of lighting conditions, not enough light kc sa house namin, but they are doing good outside even with few hours of sun in the morning. Curling could be a sign of too much sun, try moving it to a shadier spot with indirect sun. Yung pag dry and falloff ng leaves sign of underwatering e, we need to water this plant regularly. Yung plants ko indoors i don't mist them, to help with humidity i place a small glass of water with pebbles beside them or a saucer with pebbles and water ipatong mo yung pot dun, they do better pag ganun. Makikita mo lagi nag da dry out Yung water, replenish them regularly. I hope that helps, Goodluck with your polka dot plants, probably adjusting too kc kakabili mo palang. 😊
Thanks sa quick reply 🙂
One more question.
How do you water this plant? Dapat hanggang ma drain ang water sa ilalim or wet the surface lang?
When I said the leaves are falling off, the lower part looks like it's dying, pati yung super small leaves. Balak ko to cut the upper plant and put it directly in soil. Is the plant too young to use cuttings?
@@maec8014 watering should be full. Then pag medyo dry na 25% from the top dilig ulit
Is it normal that the leaves look wilting during the first few days of soil propagation? I water them regularly as the normal plant but the propagated plant still doesn’t looks healthy as the normal ones.
Hi! Yes it's normal, it takes time for them to recover in soil. This is one of the advantage of water propagation, you rarely see the stress in them when you direct the cuttings in water. For your soil propagation, just wait for a few days and they'll be fine. 😊
EdVi&Ariah thanks for the info! I’ve been really worried after the propagation 😂
@@aubreyadoptante5771 yes wag paarawan pag water propagation. Sa lilim lang ha. Goodluck!!
anak may ganyan ata si Marivic a white naman
Sige check ko tay para makahingi 😅
I just tried the water prop way & all the plants shriveled & died. I have a couple more cutting in water again but with a baggie over it. Why do y'all think they died? I live in the midwest. It's been dry & hot so I thought maybe not enough humidity.
Hi! How's the temperature where you placed your water propagation? Make sure the place is warm or put it beside the window with ample lighting if placed indoors. Big factor is the lighting and make sure the cut is right below the node. Good luck with the rest just keep on trying. 🙂
Thank you for the great video! I have 2 polka dot plants, one especially leggy. Was scared to propagate cuttings, but your video gave great closeups, you got straight to the point and showed 2 ways to propagate the cuttings. Then you showed how well the cuttings did and planted them in pots once they rooted, and then showed the mama plant. All 3 looked beautiful and healthy!!! Now I can do this with confidence! Again, great job on the video!!!! You are awesome!
Canisters leave in water
If the bad music was gone I would be able to hear you. It is very stupid to have music when you are speaking. What is your deal?
informative video, however the awful unnecessary background "music" is unnerving and distracts from the content!
Hi, I appreciate the feedback thank you so much! Yes I'll try to minimize the use of background music. Thanks again! 👍
