    Feedback: It would help alot if you put the end result before you start the tutorial. It gives us a chance to grasp what the settings will create in the end. So what I often just do is go to the end look at the end result and then look at the tutorial. Easier for the mind to grasp what you are trying to achieve during the tutorial.

    On the latest version of arnold ( 2.4.5.1 actually ), there is no linearize, with what can i replace it?

      This might be a little late to answer but anyway, the "color_correct" node should help

    thanks for the great info Chad. love seeing more Arnold content from GSG. looking forward to release of your HDRI's for Arnold too. I didn't realise that there were colour space differences between some nodes! perhaps a tutorial explaining more on colour space and gamma for Arnold, could be another tutorial with practical, visual examples to help us understand. - cheers

    • @aaronmagee7905
      @aaronmagee7905 6 лет назад +5

      Just connect curvature map to ramp input. According to the docs the ramp node converts it automatically. Double check, but I think that's whats happening, so no conversion is necessary anymore.

    Has anybody found a way to animate this? I have to materials (one clean, one with grunge) and would like to have a sort of transition. So far, I can accomplish this SLIGHTLY with curvature and noise but it only affects the corners and creases. Getting mixed results on flat surfaces.
    So right now I can animate the curvature node, and have the dirt creep in, but can't really affect the other areas of the model. Essentially, I'd like to go from clean to the 100% dirty. I'm currently setting up a few different materials with different levels of grunge and trying to blend them but it's taking quite a while.

    great video! I'm new to Arnold and still working my way through it, so these videos are a great help.
    I have a question though. Is there any way to get transparency information in the alpha channel of a render? As far as I can tell, you can only render out a solid white matte. Where in something like vray, I can get a graduation of transparency if I were rendering out, say, a frosted glass and wanted it on a transparent background.
    any ideas?

    Great Job !
    Thanks a lot,
    A carpaint tutorial (with flakes effect...), an another on skin shader or leaves shader will be great !
    On c4d (and arnold for render) , a tutorial to sculpt hairs (like daz3d characters)

    Can someone explain what the purpose of rendering is? And does Cinema 4d have a render in built? If so, why would one use Arnold or Octane over a C 4d render?

    • @Greyscalegorilla
      @Greyscalegorilla  7 лет назад

      Cinema 4D Does have great renderers built in. But Arnold and Octane can do things that the built in ones can't. This video may help show you some of the differences. ruclips.net/video/FVzZhu4yYz0/видео.html

    Chad,
    does Arnold save the texture maps to a tex folder in the project directory same as C4D does?

    • @chadashley6304
      @chadashley6304 8 лет назад

      Yep, it asks you when you choose a new image texture whether or not you want to save it to your "tex" folder.

      It may be the Arnolds 1.3.0 Requirement "CPU with at least SSE 4.2 instructions", I got E3200 CPU with SSE 3. But the plugin wont return any error message (not even in console) just dont show under plugins...

    Hi Chad, I hate to ask if it was already, but getting the chrome material to shine through in the radius has me puzzled a bit. I believe you said its a map. I tried it with a map but I didn't get the same effect. So i tried piping a chrome arnold standard material into the curvature radius to see if that works, and nothing. Is this possible? What am I missing? This is so f%$k&#g awesome. I have to learn this so I can do it on some sports logos i'm into. Been trying to do this for some time now and seeing your way with it, my man, you killed it. Your Awesome!

    • @chadashley6304
      @chadashley6304 8 лет назад

      Thanks NYCMP1! Are you able to get the curvature map working at all on your model?

    • @NYCMP1
      @NYCMP1 8 лет назад

      Chad Ashley Yeah I got it to work. It's just that the radius is white. I'd like to have that chrome coming through. And the logo is not UV'd either. It was made with text and extrusions alone in C4D. Worked like a charm. If you'd like a screenie or the file itself I'd be glad to send it to you. I'm almost there and it's my very first time and I've never been so close to getting this look. Thanks a whole lot for this and the reply. I'm a new man because of you :)

    • @chadashley6304
      @chadashley6304 8 лет назад

      It fully depends on the project. It is definitely the most well rounded of the renderers I've tested.
