I just subscribed, this information is amazing and you make it look so easy. I love your knowledge,, my mother was a homeopathic enthusiast, when she died a world of information had passed, her grand mother was what they called; in that Appalachia area a “Granny Woman”. Therefore my mother came by it naturally. I have many of her books. I would like to be more like her.
I was searching for information on how to use dandelions and your video is one of the best I’ve watched so far. Great informative video! You obviously have a gift for teaching - I can’t believe you don’t have more subscribers. I picked some nettles today and they are in my dehydrator- tomorrow I’m picking dandelions and plan on making salve and then drying the remaining petals. This is my first year foraging and I did it today in our back yard - the dandelions are there too.
My dandelions are infusing now for a few weeks. I’ve never made salve before but I’ve found a few recipes online. Most made with beeswax, shea or coconut oil and a couple of essential oils. If you made a video on how to make dandelion salve can you post the link? I couldn’t find it here. Thank you! ❤️
This vid is packed with much informative, pillar of health ways to utilize❣ I just had a dandelion leaf salad with figs & almonds, ACV with Mother & extra virgin olive oil😋which I picked in front of my apt building* I rinsed it a few times & patted dry with a linen towel* I feel so good right now 🥰 Thanx so much Luli 💝
I love the way you bring us into the *gorgeous smell* of the blossoms. I only picked like 5 this morning for my smoothie, and I can agree 1000% .. the scent was heavenly. Simple, natural, floral, herbal, and just simply *HEALING* ..... to the soul and spirit too!
I LOVE that you explain how they help and explaining what diuretic is and anti inflammatory. I have heard ALL of these words and as a beginner I do not know what they all mean. Lol. So Thank you
You laying them out for the bugs to escape made me chuckle. I made a tea from various mints and rose petals. In one cup I saw one dehydrated beetle like bug! It made me look more carefully in the future! I am going to give a few dandelions a try this year.
YOU can mix dandelion flowers and leaves for mixed salads. The leaves, alone, are bitter, but fine in a mixed salad. I learned this from elder relatives and it was great. That was with fresh dandelions. I don't know what the health benefits are, but it is good, and that was with fresh dandelions. Some people made dandelion wine and that apparently was pretty potent, but I don't have a clue how it was made, only having spoken with a few people, including one of my grandfathers, about this. One of my grandmothers also made medicinal herbal tea with dandelions and that was said to be good. My grandmother certainly like it anyway. Anyway, I would not shy away from consuming dandelions, as long as there aren't any toxic pesticides, etc. Doesn't seem like much for a plant, but I learned that it is good for us. Of course that is assuming that a person is not allergic to this, but I never heard or even read that this plant can cause allergies. Maybe it could?
I've made dandelion wine and it was wonderful. The secret (sometimes secrets should be told 😅) is no green foliage in the wine. It will make it bitter. So it will be time consuming. I pick the flower with the hard center. Just dig that out with fingernail and measure about one quart of yellow blossom per gallon, oranges, lemons to taste, 2 cups sugar, 1 red star wine yeast packet, 7 pints water. Set on must 7 to 10 days. Remove from must. Put liquid in bottle. No plant matter. 2 cups more sugar. U may have to top up your water and to fill your gallon. Add balloon on top.21 day latter add 1 to 2 cups more sugar depending on how sweet it is. Leave alone for at least 4 to 7 or more months.😊
Anything can cause an allergic reaction. It just depends on the individual person's response to being exposed to something. Some things are more allergenic though. For example, I didn't know this until I learned it in college, but a lot of people are allergic to strawberries. I also recently heard of someone having an allergic reaction that was attributed to mangos. She was told mangos are related to the poison ivy family. I looked it up, and pistachios and cashews are too! 😮
With regards to your oil firstly if you remove the green base you will eliminate the problem of more moisture which is what will spoil your oil... what you should be using is plain olive oil not extra virgin and also it is very important to use a wooden stick like the end of a wooden spoon or a skewer each day making it keep poking your flowers down keep poking your flowers down keep poking your flowers down as that will allow any air to come to the surface and bubble out. Doing this each day will ensure that your oil does not spoil... your tincture must be made with 100 proof not 80 100 proof is what will extract the medicinal benefits anything higher than 100 Proof will burn it off and anything lower will not extract
Thank you for sharing !! I very much enjoyed watching you show us how to prepare the dandelions. They grow in my yard ; I never knew the benefits or how to use them . Yes, it is a nice family activity. 💞 Many Blessings to you.

I just had to give this a thumbs up at babushka 👍 brought back childhood memories with my grandma 💕 Plus, I love dandelions! Use the flower heads in mason jar with water - refrigerate for a day or so and it's so delicious and refreshing. Some people add sweetener but I prefer it without any sweetener.
Lovely presentation. When you said Babushka it instantly reminded me of my great grandma. The young dandelion leaves can be used in salads, or steamed/boiled like spinach, the root dried, makes a nice tea. Thanks for the memories...
Thankyou so much. I had dried some dandelion last spring by letting them dry then I had them in the fridge for a few weeks. They were dried and looked good but after two weeks upon opening my dark glass jar it smelled like its spoiled or like mildew. Sadly I have to throw it away because I'm just not sure. It probably had moister in it even though they felt dry. I'm going to start fresh next spring or purchase fried dandelion. I also used cold pressed fractionated coconut oil so I'll use olive oil next time. I'm thankful I found you. Thanks again and happy new year 🕊🌼💗

I never know what part of the dandelion plant to use because I know the whole thing is pretty amazing. But with this one it looks like it's mostly the flower. I'm gonna get started with one of these. Thanks for sharing.
The whole plant is excellent... flowers, leaves, and even the roots. I buy organic roasted dandelion root tea but have not made it from fresh roots, myself.
Yesterday I was waching a dandelion flower and I was thinking it would be nice to try it in pancakes dough or just fry them in a beer dough. I must try. And I'll try your recepies too. Thank you😊 I suppose you are a Slavic person, I'm from Slovenia😊 and the herbal book you have is precious because books from that part of the world are much better, read not censured, than those from the west 😊. 🤗🤗🤗
On the making of oil, my first oil was spoiled by mold . Then I learned to put a piece of fabric over the top of the jar and not close it with a lid. This way the moisture that is in the plantmaterial will be able to evaporate and leave the jar and there will be no chance for mould. The plantmaterial kind of dries out while being in the oil. When you find it has steeped long enough you can seeve it and THEN close it with a lid.
I'm a first-time viewer of your videos.😢 you Thank you for this information. May I offer a suggestion? I hope so, haha, as I'm going to. I plan to use something other than newsprint because both the ink as well as the paper are made from highly toxic chemicals e.g. chlorine bleach, formaldehyde, etc.. What I think I'll try will be an old drapery sheer possibly over a thin piece of scrap cotton e.g. an old pillow case with the seams ripped out to lay flat. Both are slick enough for the bugs to crawl across easily. But the cotton might help to keep the sheer from slipping around. Just a thought. But thanks for the info!
Enjoyed watching. I used to make jelly, syrup and mock honey with dandilions. Now i would but no one to pick the flowers for me. Best picked in the middle of the day at high sun.
You are absolutely correct, on a sunny day after the morning dew has dried up. I don't make dandelion jelly anymore, too high in sugar. However, I made dandelion wine, oh my, so booze 😜, too much for my taste.
@Luli's Homestead Hi! Thank you for this video on the beautiful dandies. I had picked a ton of them for my sister to make wine. However, she did not remove the greens. 30 bottles of awful bitter wine. Do you think the wine can be turned into a tincture by adding vodka? Hate to pour all that wine down the drain.
With the oil infused oil, I know you're making a salve with it, but would there be any benefit in straining the flowers out and just using the oil for cooking? I'm new, this is my first time watching, and looking forward to learning. Thanks!
Very interesting and informative video! Did you rinse the flower heads before you used them, or just use them straight off the plants? I enjoyed hearing you pronounce the "R" in "turmeric." In America, people always pronounce it "tumeric." It didn't seem right, so I looked it up, and the "R" is supposed to be pronounced. It just doesn't happen.
@@barba5537 I had not really noticed that. Maybe that is a regional thing. Edited to add: I'll be paying more attention and watching for that now! lol 😄
Yes, it depends on the area of the country you were reared in. Now with travel and relocation and aliens coming into the country, the pronunciation distinctions are becoming less apparent. Fifty years ago I learned of a man who would ask a person to pronounce several words. He could locate their place of residence within two miles because of the way they sounded those words. He must have been extremely gifted in that area of knowledge.
Dandelion root makes good coffee, too. If you have a lot of dlions you can dig up the larger ones for some roots to roast. You certainly won't have to stress over next years crop. There will always be plenty.
Definitely going to subscribe, I appreciate you SO MUCH, thank you thank you. I just picked the dandelions today but do I have to do these right away after plucking or can they sit for a couple days. I didnt know i needed vodka or extra virgin olive oil
In my video I have mentioned that it may be contraindicated for people who take potassium supplements on the daily bases. I have no information regarding iodine supplements.
Hi Christina, that's what some literature says. However, I use it all the time. I even made dandelion root tincture and I take it before meals to prevent GERD
Fantastic video, thank you! Question: Do you know what the best way is to dry the flowers so they still look somewhat pretty and without trying to seed? I've tried air drying but they close up and fall apart. I've tried oven drying but I think it'll need a lower temperature to keep them from getting brown on the edges. Dehydrator maybe? This would be for full flower heads, not just the petals. Any help would be greatly appreciated 😊
I know what you mean! I use dehydrator and some flowers still turn into fuzz. Sometimes I remove the green part and dehydrate the yellow flower, because the greens are bitter in my tea.
UPDATE: I experimented with the dehydrator and they came out perfectly!!! I'm noticing that it also depends on how many days the flowers have already opened....so if theyre harvested the day before they would go to seed naturally anyways, they will not turn out pretty being dried. If you grab them when they're in their biggest, most beautiful lush state and put them yellow side down on the trays, they come out perfectly!
So many people tell me to Weed and Feed my lawn and I refuse! My response is always, "no because there is a lot of food and medicine out there. Now get the f off my land!" Lol
The chemicals in the weed and feed are not what you want in your body! I bought feed for my goats from a nearby farmer, not knowing he had used herbicides on his land. I compost EVERYTHING compostable, so that's where the goat droppings went. This is the ninth year since I put the compost on my garden plot. The weeds are now beginning to grow. If it had such devastation on the soil, I wonder what effect it had on my goats. What was in the cheese I made? What in the milk? Be careful where you get your dandelions!

How wonderful! I bet all the books are beautiful 🌸
What is your salve recipe?
What else do you put w/dandies for your smoothies please
I LOVE that you explain how they help and explaining what diuretic is and anti inflammatory. I have heard ALL of these words and as a beginner I do not know what they all mean. Lol. So Thank you
Happy to share.
You laying them out for the bugs to escape made me chuckle. I made a tea from various mints and rose petals. In one cup I saw one dehydrated beetle like bug! It made me look more carefully in the future! I am going to give a few dandelions a try this year.

Hi Carole how are you doing. wish you a pleasant weekend 😊❤️
Would love to see a video with some of your tea recipes!
Thanks
Thank you for sharing.
I made dandelion wine and it was horrible!
@@Katesharpandvoice You'll get it right the 2nd time, I'm sure*
I love deep fried dandelion flowers. Quick fry with a very light batter.
Just like zucchini flowers?
What kind of batter do you put your dandies into before frying lightly please?
Your care for bugs is inspiring and intelligentle. I metalove you!
They grow in my yard ;
I never knew the benefits or how to use them .

Many Blessings to you.

To share so much information about the dandelion in one video is brilliant. Thank u 👍.... I've subscribed.
Thank you, I can't wait to do this however we are still waiting for the snow to melt and the sun to shine. Spring is late in western Montana. I have my homemade ACV too so I really want to try it for salad dressing recipes.
Thank you darling woman for this great video ... your love for the earth / country living shines clearly. I am looking forward to making my dandelion delights as you have taught us.

They are delicious dipped in egg then flour and lightly fried in butter. Sprinkle a tiny bit of salt & garlic pd.
Hi Maria how are you doing. wish you a pleasant weekend 😊❤️
I just had to give this a thumbs up at babushka 👍 brought back childhood memories with my grandma 💕
Plus, I love dandelions! Use the flower heads in mason jar with water - refrigerate for a day or so and it's so delicious and refreshing. Some people add sweetener but I prefer it without any sweetener.
That's a great idea!!!

Wonderful memories with your grandmother
I can’t wait to share with my granddaughter 💫⚜️💫🎉💫
Lovely presentation. When you said Babushka it instantly reminded me of my great grandma. The young dandelion leaves can be used in salads, or steamed/boiled like spinach, the root dried, makes a nice tea. Thanks for the memories...
Thanks for sharing!!
Thanks again and happy new year 🕊🌼💗
Oops typos, I meant I may purchase dried dandelion this winter

Love your gentle conveyance of invaluable information. How could it be that this beautiful flower's properties are so unknown. I won't dig them up cos bees nd birds love them - now good reason to actively encourage them. Thank you
It just forgotten in the age of pharmaceuticals, but we are here to revisit these beautiful plants again.
Your videos are a pleasure to watch and very informative . Thank you!

Dandelion tea puts me in the deepest sleep! whenever I can not sleep i drink it and before i finish the cup I am out! I have alway wanted to try dandelion honey. However we have a dog and we need to locate some without wee on them lol

Thank you for this video! I have had homemade dandelion jelly.... AWESOME!!!! It's really good on vanilla ice cream!!
Delicious!
So glad I found you! Currently making dandelion wine!! I have another week to go before I can “test it out”.Thanks to your video I will now be making the tincture & vinegar. Thank you for making this video. I am glad to see someone else is as excited about this great plant as myself. I made a salad with the leaves today too with a simple oil & vinegar dressing with added honey…it helped with the bitterness.
I noticed it about 3 years ago in South MS when our spring was just not right. Now like you said it’s like clock work. Clear blue sky then tons of trails then silvery gray skies for days.
Lots of documentaries out there.
Just subscribed because I was looking on ways to make use of dandelions and your channel was too perfect!! Thanks for teaching and showing us! God Bless you!
absolutely loved this video, thank you so much for all of your generous knowledge on the subject!! Can you do a video on herbal book recommendations? 💚
Thank you. Yes, I have several herbal books and use them all the time. I should do a video about my books. 🙂
This video is priceless, there are dandelions blooming all over my yard and my neighbor's
It snowed yesterday it was blowing strong gusts -a day before we had 82, and 84f day?! Anyway winds can effect liver-gallbladder and cause annoyance of tensions; mainly in neck up body! Having dandelion hot tea 🍵 is helpful.
Seeing the greenery around you is making me want to plant?! Looking forward to being out in nature.
Yes and yes
Yes, indeed. At 7000 feet the dandelions are still underground. Soon, though, things are beginning to sprout! I so love Spring!
Wow! Look at the masses of these beauties. Unbelievable abundance 😁
The best part was picking them. For a moment I was felt like a child walking through the field of flowers on the way to the river. Do you remember those fields по дороге на речку?

As I child I remember my mother making dandelion wine. We use to go to the field and pick them and she would make the wine. I wish I knew how she did it.
Hi Michelle how are you doing. wish you a pleasant weekend 😊❤️
I never know what part of the dandelion plant to use because I know the whole thing is pretty amazing. But with this one it looks like it's mostly the flower. I'm gonna get started with one of these. Thanks for sharing.
The greens are bitter but very nutritional
The whole plant is excellent... flowers, leaves, and even the roots. I buy organic roasted dandelion root tea but have not made it from fresh roots, myself.
I’ve had an excellent Dandelion Wine years ago. I wish I had the recipe for it because I’ve never had any other to match the taste of that wine.
My wine came out so strong!!! Very boozy
We made it 20 years ago and it’s still good today
You are incredible! Thank you for making this. Youre a wealth of knowledge, a pleasure to learn from you.
Yesterday I was waching a dandelion flower and I was thinking it would be nice to try it in pancakes dough or just fry them in a beer dough. I must try. And I'll try your recepies too. Thank you😊
I suppose you are a Slavic person, I'm from Slovenia😊 and the herbal book you have is precious because books from that part of the world are much better, read not censured, than those from the west 😊.

I make omelet with dandelion petals.
Great tip! Thanks 😊
Sorry, I messed up proofing. I didn't know that emoji got in there. Please ignore it. Thanks.
Pillow case or a flat cotton sheet is a great idea!

Dandelion jelly - tastes just like honey and use it as substitute in cooking
I made it a few years ago. It was very good to be used on those cold winter days. Very jar was full of flower aromas.
I love using my oven light for a low heat source. Liquifying Coconut oil, making yogurt, infusing oils or drying dandelion petals.

I brows and eat as I wander! The roots and leaves are edible too.
@@lulishomestead6767 my Auntie made the wine every year. She made us kiddos rootbeer instead. Lol

Nice to know and thanks for all sharing 🌿🌿🌿

Great videos. New suscriber here, do you have any recommendations for homemade salves for scalp inflammation?
I’ve just found your channel your a real inspiration thank you.
With the oil infused oil, I know you're making a salve with it, but would there be any benefit in straining the flowers out and just using the oil for cooking?
I'm new, this is my first time watching, and looking forward to learning. Thanks!
I was thinking the same😊
You can do that.
My mother used too clean the green leaf then fry in left over bacon grease taste just like spinach yum good with a tiny amount of vinger
Sounds good
Very interesting and informative video!
I can’t deny my accent! All of my “r”s are always present 🤣
@@lulishomestead6767 🤗
I notice Americans don't pronounce the R in forward either. But I like the sound of foward.
Thanks. Now I know what to do with all the dandelions that grow in my lawn.
Welcome! I would let them sit overnight for the tincture, the little bugs will run away. As far as the infused oils, definitely wilt them overnight.
Wowww. Wonderful video!
How would dandelion interact (contraindication), with potassium iodine when taken to prevent fallout radiation thyroid cancer???
In my video I have mentioned that it may be contraindicated for people who take potassium supplements on the daily bases. I have no information regarding iodine supplements.
Great video! I will watch some of your videos later too! Thank you for sharing your knowledge! 👏👏👏👏👍👍👍👍
Thanks. Welcome to the homesteading family!
I have GERD. I’ve been growing these all year for natural help on other issues . But it sounds like I shouldn’t take dandelion?
Dip them in watered down glycerine and dry them in closed container with lots of dried silica gel.
I think she may have a different type of dandelion. I also noticed the petals came right out of the green part. Mine don't come out that easily.
@@lulishomestead6767 how do I keep them from turning to fuzzy seed?
Dandelion jelly is fabulous!
So many people tell me to Weed and Feed my lawn and I refuse! My response is always, "no because there is a lot of food and medicine out there. Now get the f off my land!" Lol
😆😁👍 Exactly!
@@donnahalsted7718 of course. Hence my response.
Soooooo happy I found your channel!!!! Love it!

Is the white milky stuff ok to eat? I tried a snall amount once and it was so bitter!
White milky substance I only find in the flower stem, Which I don't use. I really don't see any white milky substance in the young green leaves
