  • In 2007, a Wales team in crisis appointed Warren Gatland as their new head coach. In the 11 years since, Gatland has achieved his every goal, except for one: To win the Rugby World Cup. So how did he get Wales to this point, and how is he preparing his team for their ultimate test?

    Love Warren Gatland and what he's done for Wales. When he finishes next year he will have left Welsh rugby in a far, far, far better position than when he found us. Outstanding coach and criminally under appreciated. I can't believe the flack he's come under on times, especially by some Lions 'fans' who slated the choice to appoint him as head coach. His record is sublime.

    I love that clip at 1:12 of him cheering after that win at Twickenham in the RWC. Shows how much it means to him and how emotionally invested in Welsh rugby he's become. Clearly means a lot to him not just as a coach - that was the reaction of all Welsh people after that game. What he's done for Wales has been incredible. The best thing he's done is changed the attitude and mentality of rugby over here. Even if it's not as realistic as other nations, we go into tournaments now believing we can win - before we were just hoping not to be humiliated. Gatland is a Welsh rugby legend in the same way that someone like Alun Wyn Jones is.

    Joe schmidt was doing the same thing since Ireland suffered many injuries against France and Argentina in the last world cup. He has cycled through many players through the squad, far more that was far more than required in a normal year. He was building up experience for the last three years as well and put them through hell engaging them in his work ethic. He was aiming for the world cup next year as well.

      The 1014 Rugby Yea his videos are great but completely disagree with his thoughts on Folau, i mean rugby is a game of respect so we respect everyone’s beliefs as well as Folau. I’m a kiwi fan but totally disagree with how Folau is being treated about his comments. Majority of religions some of those who support rugby agree with Folaus beliefs, doesn’t mean we hate anyone god teaches us to love everyone no matter what but just cause he states his beliefs his a bigot, a racist, a homophobe. Come on guys, this is so hypocritical if I’ve ever seen one. Other beliefs are welcomed and respected but Christians should just shut their mouths. WOW.

      Steven Hanley Folau didn’t go out of his way to spread his beliefs, he was asked about his opinion on homosexuality and he stated it. Again we are not hating against gays, we love everyone no matter what sin they commit wether it be murder, infidelity or homosexuality, etc. Having said that it is still a sin in our belief, I’ll say it again in “OUR” belief. We are not pushing it on anyone and again rugby is a game where all backgrounds and beliefs are accepted why are we crucified. If rugby doesn’t accept Christian, catholic, Muslim and other religions beliefs like you say is hateful than why not just say it straight, if you believe in the Bible, don’t play rugby cause you will be crucified like Folau, I say bull. A quarter or almost half rugby public agree with Folau.

      Yeah. It may just be autumns...but a year out from the RWC during which Australia is in our group, if we can't beat THIS Australia team, at home, after 13 straight losses, then we may as well just sit the RWC out xD As much as Gatlands ' building ' is great....it's been 10 years of building now, time for actual results against southern hemisphere teams.

    • @vonteflon
      @vonteflon 5 лет назад

      Agree, but one point of order: Australia haven't gone that bad. It's all relative. Rugby Championship exposes weakness ruthlessly. SA have improved enormously, competing genuinely with NZ now; NZ themselves seem to have found yet another gear; and Argentina are quietly building too. Australia will thrash Italy, and Wales and England will both struggle against them. For the reasons you outlined, I reckon a close miss for Wales and England to sneak past.

    • @Nazomiah
      @Nazomiah 5 лет назад +1

      @@vonteflon Yeah absolutely I wasn't trying to do down Australia in any way. Losing to SA, NZ, and a decent Argentina has no shame attached. I was just pointing out that in previous years Wales had the excuse that Australia was was a top ranking team. This video makes a lot out of Wales being ranked 3rd in world rankings. I'm a big ranking sceptic though, and if we can't back that up at home, against Australia who are supposedly ranked 6th, then its clear nout has changed.

    Argentina has been my favorite National side since 2003, but the Six Nations has made me a lover of my ancestral Homeland (grandma is a Davies), and I can't wait to see what they can do in Japan this fall. Great video my friend.
    BTW, do you happen to know what happened to the 1014 rugby podcast by chance? It never came back in America for 2019, but that loss also brought me to your channel, so Cheers!

    Good job, as always. But man, this Poitrenaud video twice was painful (the second time, with the 'mirror effect', I was like "oh come on man!!") ^^. One of my worst rugby memory ever.

    Not everyone in Ireland hates Gatland. He remains fairly popular in Connacht.
